ABC finally confirmed the news we’ve been all but sure of for over a week: Emily Maynard is getting her second shot at love on The Bachelorette in 2012! The 25-year-old single mom from North Carolina, will footsteps of Ashley Hebert … who she bested for Brad Womack’s love on The Bachelor last spring. Maynard, who went on to split with Brad last summer, will begin filming in March, a source said, adding, “She’s looking for a man … not a little boy.” An interesting comment, since Brad is more than a decade older than Em. The West Virginia native, who resides in Charlotte, N.C., with her 6-year-old daughter Ricki, was previously engaged to NASCAR driver and owner Ricky Hendrick. He died in a plane crash in October 2004 while Maynard was pregnant, but before she even realized it. She went on to name their daughter after her late fiance. “Emily’s strength, passion and southern charm – as a mother and as a woman – would make anyone happy to make her his wife,” ABC says in a press release. “She found love again with Brad and, even though it didn’t work out, she realized that the series can work. By Adam Graham Judges on “American Idol” Photo: FOX “American Idol” continued its kindness streak Thursday (January 19), handing out 38 Golden Tickets during its Pittsburgh audition rounds. Furthermore, of the 11 singers showcased during the hour-long program, 10 made it through to Hollywood. (Where have you gone, William Hungs of the world? Come back, Renaldo Lapuz!) Even the auditions that looked like they were going to be joke auditions turned out to be authentic. Case in point: Samantha Novacek, who came before the judges joined by her sister, who insists on planking while she sings. So before Novacek tore into Faith Hill’s “Like We Never Loved at All,” sister Patricia laid down in front of her, head up, arms at her side. (Before you criticize “Idol” for being late to the meme, remember the audition was taped over the summer.) Planking or no, the vocals were there, and when the 19-year-old breezed through to Hollywood, Novacek’s entire family celebrated by planking in the lobby. Our only question: Does the sister get to come to Hollywood too? Another standout on Thursday’s show was 15-year-old Eben Franckewitz, whom producers made sure to throw the Bieber tag on early. (Granted, he did have a haircut that recalled the Biebs.) The Milford, Ohio, resident rode to the audition with his perfectly supportive parents and knocked his rendition of “Ain’t No Sunshine” out of the park. “You definitely have a God-given gift that is pretty amazing and spot-on,” Randy Jackson told him, sending him (and his Bieber coif) through to the next round. Reed Grimm brought wily soul to the “Family Matters” theme song (!), culled from his many years onstage (the 26-year-old has been in a family band since he was 2) and was instantly zipped through to Hollywood. Even Urkel would have been proud. Creighton Fraker, 28, of Queens, New York, didn’t know what he was going to sing for the judges, so he decided to do a song he made up on his way to the audition. There wasn’t much there in the way of lyrics — the song just sort of awkwardly name-dropped the judges — but thankfully “Idol” is a singing contest and not a songwriting one, and the judges were so impressed with his vocals that they did one of those things where they throw out crazy percentages in front of their “yes” votes to quantify how much they like him. (Steven Tyler won by giving him a “3 gazillion percent yes.”) Jennifer Lopez commented the Queens native is like if Jamiroquai and Justin Timberlake had a baby, which, weird? But Tyler better summed up the judges’ enthusiasm, gushing, “Dude, you are so Hollywood!” The show closed with 24-year-old Hallie Day of Baltimore, a high school dropout who crawled back from a suicide attempt several years ago and thrilled the judges with her strong vocals on Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive.” “She could win,” mused Lopez, who’s already taken to calling Day “Blondie.” Other contestants who passed on to Hollywood on Thursday’s show: Heejun Han, 22, of Flushing, New York, who sang a surprisingly soulful version of “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You,” made even more surprising by the fact that he had never sang in front of his family; 27-year-old Aaron Marcellus from Teaneck, New Jersey, who took on Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” and came out a winner; and 20-year-old Chase Likens of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, whose version of Lady Antebellum’s “Love Don’t Live Here” stood out from the pack. “American Idol” continues Sunday with the San Diego audition rounds, following the NFC Championship Game on Fox. My name is Aisha, I’m from Virginia! Sunday December 11th was a crazy day. Two of my friends, my sister and I planned a buyout in Washington DC without knowing that Justin Bieber would be in DC that same day. Justin announced about a week later that he was coming to Christmas in Washington the SAME day as the buyout, which was about 5 minutes away from the Barnes and noble we held the buyout. The buyout was insane! We had about 90-100 girls show up, we collected about 5-6 boxes of canned goods to donate to the local food bank. We also got about 50 donations of Under The Mistletoe CD’s for the Children’s Hospital. After about an hour my friend ran into Scooter on her way to the buyout, and he said he was on his way there! It was pretty unreal that Scooter came to the buyout, we didn’t expect it all. He took pictures with EVERYONE, then left. He thanked me and friends for everything we did and was being so sweet! After the buyout, we really wanted to meet Justin so we headed to his hotel, but then realized he left. We tried to beat him to the museum but ended up missing him by 5 minutes. Hours past and everyone left the city, it was only my twin sister and I left with 2 other girls we met. We decided to wait until the event was over. It was like -10 degrees. My body was slowly dieing. Since the President was inside, the blocked off every single road surrounding the building, so we had to wait across the street. After about an hour and a half, the President finally left, so we went inside the parking lot, and prayed that Justin was coming out that way. I spotted Legaci, my sister and I took pictures with them. Then we saw Scrappy! We also took pictures with him. We met The Band Perry, Cee lo Green, Conan O’Brien, and Jennifer Hudson. Finally after waiting for like 30 more minutes Justin comes out with his whole crew . There was only about 8 people there at the most. We were just patiently waiting there then Scooter came over and saw my sister and I (he remembered us cause we were the leaders of the buyout.) He called Justin over and told him that we organized the buyout and Justin had the biggest smile on his face, he was like “Thank you so much, that means the world to me.” I was really calm, and I was like no problem! He was like “Let’s get a picture!” While we were about to take the picture he pointed to his suit, and was like “Do I look like double o’ seven” I laughed and was like yeaah, you look cute! He was like thanks! We took the picture and then this paparazzi guy was trying to get Justin’s attention and he was like, “WAIT, I need to get pictures with my fans first” He took pictures with all the girls, and signed autographs. This past November when Trigga Trey returned with his second rap mixtape, #LemmeHolDatBeat2 , he made it clear that he takes his bars seriously. The DJ Drama-helmed tape begins with Songz paying homage to hip-hop’s fallen over “Jackin’ for Beats.” Over the course of three minutes and 41 seconds, Trey raps over a medley of beats popularized by the Notorious B.I.G., Tupac and Big Pun. The “Jackin’ “concept was made famous by Ice Cube in 1990 on his Kill at Will EP. To prove his rap worth, Trigga glides over Biggie’s “Sky’s the Limit,” Eazy-E’s “Boyz-n-the Hood,” Big L’s “Put It On,” Pun’s “Still Not a Player” and ‘Pac’s “I Get Around.” On “She Will,” Trey borrows Lil Wayne’s instrumental of the same name and then invites Weezy to guest on “Don’t Love Me.” Of course Tunechi is the draw on the track’s final verse, but Songz holds his own spitting clever lines like “Shorty runnin’ game, so I never had to coach her.” Trey’s strong suit is obviously his R&B vocals, but make no mistake: He can rap pretty damn well — better than some rappers. On “BeatNutz” he tackles the Beatnuts 2001 underground favorite “No Escapin’ This,” delivering playful bars like, “It’s the incredible, rappers are edible/ No matter what I ever do, hate is what I never do.” Next up is Trey’s 2012 album Chapter 5, and while he has collaborated with rappers like Twista, Nicki Minaj and Drake in the past, maybe this time he’ll save a sixteen for himself. This was the man behind the trigger during Thursday’s shooting at Virginia Tech. Police say Ross Truett Ashley, 22, stole a car at gunpoint Wednesday from his landlord’s office in what would be a precursor to the events a day later: On Thursday, police say he killed the police officer, then turned the gun on himself in a parking lot on the campus. “Ross wasn’t that kind of person. He was friendly, nice,” said Nic Robinson, a 21-year-old history major at Radford University preparing for law school. “Obviously, he had his bad days, but it was the same as anyone else having those days.” The most notable setback in his life that Robinson knew about was Ashley’s breakup over the summer with his girlfriend. It clearly hurt him, she said, but she never saw him obsess over it. There were other issues in Ashley’s life, however, that he wasn’t as forthcoming about, she said. “We all have our family problems, so the way that he was saying it just made it kind of seem like, ‘just another thing to add to the list,” she said. “He never made anything sound like, ‘This is serious, I need you to sit down.’” Ashley never talked about guns or weapons, and she said she never knew whether he owned or knew how to use one.
