Christina Aguilera is a fighter. The Voice coach got choked up during the rehearsals for the 2013 People’s Choice Awards , but soldiered on through an emotional performance Wednesday. Opting for a simple white blazer and black slacks instead of her usually more, um, eclectic wardrobe, Xtina performed “Blank Page” live for the first time. Watch: Christina Aguilera – Blank Page (People’s Choice Awards) The subject matter is heavy for Christina, 32. “She was very emotional,” an insider said. “The song is about making mistakes and realizing you can’t go back but you can start over with a blank slate.” “Christina expresses herself through her songs and this one is particularly emotional … this year is a new beginning for her and she’s excited.” Another source reported that Aguilera was sobbing during rehearsals and even had the audience in tears while rehearsing the moving new song. Fortunately, she came through with flying colors – and earned recognition. Following the song, Josh Duhamel hopped onstage to present her with the “People’s Voice” award, at which point the emotion was even more evident. “Thank you for giving me this form of expression and letting me use my voice,” she said. “It means so much. When I sing I believe it truly is the only time I can truly be myself.” “I find a home in music and I hope others can find a home in music as well.” She’ll always have a home here on THG. Check out our gallery of Christina Aguilera photos , as well as our video section, for tons more Xtina.
My name is Anaïs. My Bieber Experience happened on November 26 th 2012 in Montreal, Canada. It all started when Justin announced his tour dates. I was so excited, maybe he would come to my city aka Narnia. I was checking the date list and that’s when I saw ‘Montreal – Bell Center.’ I started freaking out. “YESSS OMG THERE’S MY CHANCE TO MEET JUSTIN.” But then I saw the date was November 26 th 2012. So here’s my story: my dad had a daughter with another woman before he had me with my mom. His daughter’s name was Laurence but she died in a car accident a few years before I was born (I didn’t have the chance to meet her but I still went to the cemetery every year with my dad) After that, my dad and Laurence’s mom had another child (he’s my brother) but I rarely see him because he lives with his mom. My dad and his mom split up 3 months after he was born. Everybody thinks I’m an only child but I’m not. 2 years later my dad met my mom and they had me, yay. But I was born with a kidney tumor. Miraculously it disappeared with almost no treatment. There are people who call that a medical miracle but I think it’s my sister who protects me in heaven. My parents split up when I was 5 years old and my mom didn’t have anywhere to go so I went to live with her at her friend’s house (@loribarakat’s mom) All my life I always felt so lonely. Even my own brother abandoned me, he never calls me or wishes me happy birthday. I was 10 years old when I got hospitalized because I was sad and lonely. Doctors have referred me to a psychologist until the age of 12. I still feel the same today because I know that my sister and brother are not going to come back. I used to wish that my parents would get back together just before blowing my birthday candles. My mom started dating another man and that’s when I knew my wish wouldn’t come true. I was 12 years old when I saw Justin’s cover of ‘With You’ and I immediately fell in love with him. I’ve been supporting Justin ever since that day and I promise that I’ll be here until the end. So on May 23 rd I bought my VIP meet and greet tickets. I was so happy. I cried for 5 hours straight. I t was the best thing that ever happened to me. People are so quick to judge when I say I support Justin Bieber, but what they don’t understand is, when I hear his voice, all the bad thoughts I have disappear. His music is the only thing in this world that actually works to make me feel less lonely and a lot happier. I also met lots of awesome people because of him who have become really good friends. Plus, Justin’s music has helped me get through lots of things, that’s why I wanted to meet him so bad. I just love him so much. The day I met Justin was simply the most beautiful day of my life. Being able to talk to him in person was unreal. For once, I can say that I had a real smile on my face. All day I felt like I was in a movie. I saw Kenny (he gave me a high five), Dan, Fredo, Jazzy, Jaxon, his dad Jeremy, Pattie, and even his grandparents. I was in second row and I couldn’t ask for more. I am so grateful for all that. Justin changed my life and I know it’s for the best. Dreams do come true. I never thought that one day I would be writing My Bieber Experience, but Never Say Never, right? Today I’m 16 years old, I’m proud to be a belieber and I’m proud to say I met my idol on November 26 th . The exact same day my sister passed away a few years ago. Read more: My name is Anaïs. A video I made for Justin Bieber using the song “Gotta Find You” by Joe Jonas. Lyrics: Everytime I think I’m closer to the heart Of what it means to know just who I am I think I’ve finally found a better place to start But no one ever seems to understand I need to try to get to where you are Could it be, your not that far You’re the voice I hear inside my head, the reason that I’m singing I need to find you I gotta find you You’re the missing piece I need, the song inside of me I need to find you I gotta find you Oh yeah Yeah yeah You’re the remedy I’m searching hard to find To fix the puzzle that I see inside Painting all my dreams the color of your smile When I find you I¨t will be alright I need to try to get to where you are Could it be, your not that far You’re the voice I hear inside my head, the reason that I’m singing I need to find you I gotta find you You’re the missing piece I need, the song inside of me I need to find you I gotta find you Been feeling lost, can’t find the words to say Spending all my time, stuck in yesterday Where you are is where I wanna be Oh next to you… and you next to me Oh I need to find you… yeah You’re the voice I hear inside my head, the reason that I’m singing I need to find you (I need to find you) I gotta find you (yeah, yeah) You’re the missing piece I need, the song inside of me I need to find you I gotta find you You’re the voice I hear inside my head, the reason that I’m singing I need to find you (I need to find you) I … http://www.youtube.com/v/cVRqG6XapnU?version=3&f=videos&app=youtube_gdata See more here: Gotta Find You (Justin Bieber Video) with lyrics
A look back at this epic year in celebrity news would not be complete without reflecting upon some of the brightest stars who said goodbye to us in 2012. Here are 12 of the most notable pop culture figures – from singers to actors to authors and even historical figures – who passed away this year: Donna Summer – Last Dance 12. Donna Summer , disco’s queen, became synonymous with an entire genre of music with hits like “Love to Love You Baby” and “Last Dance.” 11. Ray Bradbury was an author ahead of even his sci-fi time. 10. Jenni Rivera . The popular Mexican singer-actress was taken from us – and her family – far, far too soon this month in a tragic plane crash. 9. Larry Hagman . Dallas star was the original TV villain. 8. Mitchell Guist . The Swamp People star attracted an enormous following thanks to his reality show, and the reaction to his passing was immense. 7. Nora Ephron ‘s screenplays – When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle – have been often imitated but never duplicated in modern cinema. Phyllis Diller Standup 6. Phyllis Diller hilariously made herself the butt of her own jokes, but more importantly shattered the glass ceiling of comedy over a decades-long career. 5. Don Cornelius ‘ Soul Train didn’t just provide great music, it empowered a black audience and informed a white audience in a vast cultural experience. 4. Steve Sabol may not be a household name, but the NFL Films founder forever changed the way we watch the most popular sport in America. 3. Neil Armstrong & Sally Ride , the first man on the moon and first woman in space, were both pioneers outside of our atmosphere and inspirations on Earth. 2. Dick Clark may not have invented popular music, the American teenager or New Year’s Eve, but he left an indelible mark on all of the above. Whitney Houston National Anthem: The Best Ever 1. Whitney Houston ‘s final years were not what millions of fans would have hoped for, but her legacy and the power of her voice never diminished. These are just a dozen of the memorable figures we bid farewell to, of course. Share the names and memories of these and others you will miss below!
Congratulations are in order for Shakira and her boyfriend Gerard Pique! Shakira has given birth to a baby boy! Pique tweeted the birth announcement Thursday night in Spanish. Translated it said, “Our son has been born! We are very happy! Thanks to all for your messages.” Shakira served as a mentor on The Voice this fall and Pique is a soccer player for FC Barcelona. This is the first child for the both parents. Congratulations on the new addition!
Academy ballots were mailed out last week to 5,586 voting members, the most significant news on the Oscar front. Not that it was a quiet week in Lake Globesbegone. The New York Times ’ critics A.O. Scott and Manohla Dargis both named Amour 2012’s best film, as did the Los Angeles Times ’ Kenneth Turan. The AP triumvirate of Christy Lemire, David Germain and Jake Coyle anointed Argo , Moonrise Kingdom and Amour , respectively. The flyover states also weighed in: The Kansas City Film Critics Circle named The Master best film, while the Chicago and Austin Film Critics Associations went with Zero Dark Thirty . The Southeastern Film Critics Association backed Argo , as did the Nevada, St. Louis and Florida Film Critics. The criticspalooza that is the Village Voice Top 10 poll (86 – count ‘em) named The Master best film, while The Atlantic ’s lone Christopher Orr picked Zero Dark Thirty . Put them together and what have you got? Mostly Oscar pundits still gobsmacked that Nicole Kidman got a Best Supporting nomination from the Screen Actor’s Guild and the Hollywood Foreign Press. The Voice ’s Michael Musto pondered whether she could be one of a handful of actors to have earned nominations for Oscar and a Razzie for the same performance . In the immortal words of Max Bialystock, “Worlds have turned on such thoughts.” From here on, those little intangibles that John Gavin so rhapsodically preached to Maureen O’Hara about in Miracle on 34th Street (Merry Christmas, by the way) come in to play. Will Academy members filling out their ballots be influenced by Reese Witherspoon’s open letter to The Impossible ’s Naomi Watts (“Not since Meryl Streep’s performance in Sophie’s Choice …) in Entertainment Weekly , moved by Hugh Jackman welling up during his recent “60 Minutes” interview, or swayed by journeyman character actor Ann Dowd’s plucky self-financed campaign to distribute screeners of her career pinnacle performance in Compliance ? Let’s go to the Gold Linings Playbook to see how the Oscar field shifted last week. And Academy Members: Complete your ballots before the Jan. 3 deadline, lest you fall off the Oscar cliff. Best Picture To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, the only thing better than being nominated for a SAG award or Golden Globe is not being nominated. That may be the case for Beasts of the Southern Wild , whose non-union production was deemed ineligible for Screen Actors Guild consideration. It was also snubbed by the Hollywood Foreign Press. Now everyone’s talking about the beauty of the Beast and the producers are rekindling adoration for the art house darling with stepped-up promotion. Zero Dark Thirty and Lincoln remain Best Picture front-runners, but while the former continues to be preoccupied with answering a rising tide of critics (“Senators condemn Zero Dark Thirty torture,” reported USA Today ) all the latter has to do is look presidential (“ Lincoln aims to enlighten as it entertains,” praised a Los Angeles Times feature). Argo , too, is assured a Best Picture nomination, and while Zero Dark Thirty is getting critics awards buzz (as well as detractor’s brickbats), Argo , to its credit, has built up enormous good will. It’s a rousing, real-life “America, f*** yeah” that Hollywood could still rally around. Django Unchained ’s stock with critics continued to rise last week, although Spike Lee set off a Twitter firestorm Saturday when he said that slavery was a holocaust, “not a Sergio Leone spaghetti western” and that he would “honor” his ancestors by not seeing the film. The Drudge Report splashed an incendiary headline across its home page regarding the film’s prodigious use of the “n-word.” It also remains to be seen how the film’s graphic violence will play with audiences in the wake of the incomprehensible tragedy in Connecticut. 1. Lincoln 2. Zero Dark Thirty 3. Argo 4. Silver Linings Playbook 5. Les Miserables 6. Django Unchained 7. Life of Pi 8. Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 9. Beasts of the Southern Wild 10. Moonrise Kingdom Ones to watch: Amour, The Dark Knight Rises, The Impossible, The Master, Skyfall Best Director Sure, the Golden Globes are Hollywood’ most reliable punchline (except maybe for Rob Schneider), but Gold Derby gives them their props as “one of the most reliable Oscar crystal balls.” That doesn’t bode well for Les Miserables director Tom Hooper, who was snubbed, leaving wiggle room for David O. Russell, but Quentin Tarantino is, as ever, the wild card. Like Spielberg, his name alone has a Hitchcockian mass appeal and recognition. As he observed in his recent Playboy interview, “I was actually quite proud when I read that Django is one of the most anticipated movies coming out this year. It’s a black Western. Where’s the anticipation coming from? I guess a lot of it is me. That’s pretty f***ing awesome.” 1. Steven Spielberg ( Lincoln ) 2. Kathryn Bigelow ( Zero Dark Thirty ) 3. Ben Affleck ( Argo ) 4. Ang Lee ( Life of Pi ) 5. David O. Russell ( Silver Linings Playbook ) Ones to watch: Paul Thomas Anderson ( The Master ), Michael Haneke ( Amour ), Tom Hooper ( Les Miserables ), Quentin Tarantino ( Django Unchained )

For Cassadee Pope, Terry McDermott and Nicholas David, it came down to this. The final three performances they delivered last night, along with encores of some of their signature songs thus far, served as their closing arguments. Only one could be named The Voice , however, and it was all in voters’ hands. Would it be pitch-perfect rocker Terry? Soulful throwback Nicholas? Pop-country princess Cassadee? Any of the talented trio would make a worthy winner. But there could be only one, and following an emotional, performance-filled night, we finally have a winner of the NBC hit show’s best season yet. So who won the coveted title and who fell just short? Let’s find out … Carson Daly announced that the winner of The Voice Season 3 is: Cassadee Pope of Team Blake. When asked how she felt, Pope responded, “I’m feeling amazing, thank you for everyone who voted for me and all the fans and Blake, the producers, wardrobe, Carson, the band, and Christina. Everbody!” Well? What do you think? Excited? Disappointed? Tell us below! Did America get it right? YES! NO! View Poll »
