The Battle Rounds continued on Tuesday’s episode of The Voice, and there were some big shockers. Certain performers who were solid in the Blind Auditions completely fizzled out. Others continued to turn in winning performances. But who did not get through to the next stage? Find out below. Team Kelly: Kymberli Joye vs. OneUp – “Mercy” In a rare feat, Kymberli went up against not one, but two competitors thanks OneUp being a duo. As we previously said, OneUp’s vocals are not all that. And that’s wh Kymberli won this heat with flying colors. Some would say it wasn’t a fair fight for OneUp, but that’s to be expected when there is just one duo in the process. Team Adam: Steve Memmolo vs. Anthony Arya – “Amy” This was a fair fight. They were both not that great in the Blinds, so pitting them together made for a surprisingly competitive performance. Steve definitely had the edge, and that was made obvious by his higher vocals. In the end, Adam kept Steve, but Anthony got a reprieve thanks to Jennifer. Team Adam: Tyke James vs.Jarred Matthew – “She’s Always a Woman” Okay, so we’re still unsure why either of these two got through the Blinds, but here we are. But one of them had to win, and it was genuinely difficult to tell them apart in the midst of all the screaming. Tyke took the win, and thankfully, there was no steal in play. Phew. Team Blake: Chris Kroeze vs. Mercedes Ferreira-Dias – “Back in the High Life Again” There were a lot of issues with this Battle. Both artists did not sound good together, and that’s why it would come down to the personal preference of the coach. Neither was better than the other. They were limited by their shared lack of ability. Team Blake: Katrina Cain vs. Rachel Messer on “Angel” Katrina has been a solid performer ever since her turn in the Blind Auditions, but what the heck was wrong with her voice during this Battle? Had she been replaced with someone who looked like her? In any case, she secured the win over Rachel, but something tells me Rachel should have won this round. That’s a wrap on Night 2 of the Battle Rounds. There’s still a lot to come from the Battles before we get to the Knockouts and the Playoffs. There’s also the big twist coming up, so there’s that. F ormer football player Colin Kaepernick has continually used his platform as an avenue to bring attention to social injustice. He’s been honored by several institutions and organizations for lending his voice and resources to overcome issues faced by the Black community. The latest institution to recognize Kaepernick’s efforts is Harvard University. The school awarded him with the W.E.B. Du Bois medal on Thursday, the Huffington Post reported. While accepting the award, Kaepernick recounted interacting with a high school football team during his travels around the country. “One of the young brothers says, ‘We don’t get to eat at home, so we’re going to eat on this field.’ That moment has never left me. And I’ve carried that everywhere I went,” he said, according to the news outlet. “I feel like it’s not only my responsibility but all our responsibilities as people that are in positions of privilege, in positions of power, to continue to fight for them and uplift them, empower them. Because if we don’t, we become complicit in the problem.” Amongst the other individuals who were honored included Bryan Stevenson , Florence Ladd , and Dave Chappelle . Kaepernick has won several awards for his brave decision to stay dedicated to what he believed in even though it impacted his career. Earlier this year, Amnesty International, a global human rights organization, awarded Kaepernick its 2018 Ambassador of Conscience Award. “This is an award that I share with all of the countless people throughout the world combating the human rights violations of police officers, and their uses of oppressive and excessive force,” he said during his acceptance speech. On Monday night, Tori Roloff took to Instagram for a no-holds-barred Q&A with her fans and followers. Seriously, no topic was off-limits. Tori gushed about having found an entire community of little people through her husband, Zach Roloff. Tori wrote that she is “so blessed that I’ve made such amazing friends in the dwarf community.” (Disclaimer: some little people are totally onboard with the dwarf label while others are emphatically not) Tori went on to speak about how Zach’s dwarfism impacts their relationship. It turns out that the effect is not as great as some people have assumed. Tori is quick to shoot down the misconception that his dwarfism is a “limitation” within their marriage. She does say that the biggest impact is that she has “asked to reach the high shelf a lot.” That sort of thing can happen in a lot of marriages where there’s a height difference. Tori says that things go smoothly so long as neither of them are trying to be a different height than they really are. “To me it feels weird to crouch,” Tori confesses. “And,” she adds. “Zach always told me to stand.” “I’m not trying to be shorter and he’s not trying to be taller,” she notes. Any relationship is going to be healthier while both parties agree to be exactly who they are. “I love my husband for his heart not his height,” Tori affirms. “Love is love is love.” She’s right — and it’s good that she makes it clear that she is not a “chaser.” That is, she is not someone who fetishizes him for his dwarfism. She loves Zach for who he is, neither for nor despite his height. That is just as it should be. And the results have been just as infuriating and entertaining as ever! Banks’ source of outrage du jour is the uproar surrounding the political opinions of Kanye West . West’s love of Donald Trump has made him low-hanging fruit for many in the celebrity world these days, and Banks feels the hip-hop icon is being unfairly maligned. This week, she specifically singled out singer and ill-fated dame in a Dashiell Hammett adaptation Lana Del Rey, who recently attacked West in a vitriolic series of tweets. “Wow okay Lana, this would be cute if you were consistent with your outrage and refused to collab with ASAP rocky who has physically assaulted women too,” Banks responded on Twitter. “To me this just looks like the typical White woman taking using a weakened target to ‘pretend’ to be an ally.” Banks went on to argue that Del Rey “wouldn’t dare challenge a black woman on her opinion” and accused her of using Kanye as an easy trget “for your own vapid attempts to seem politically aware.” From there, Banks accused Del Rey of hypocrisy, pointing out that she’s collaborated with A$AP Rocky, who has been the subject of multiple abuse allegations. “Kanye is not your enemy or THE enemy. In fact your selective outrage Makes YOU. The enemy,” she continued. “You’re exactly the kind of thought police Kanye is fighting against… I suggest you apologize to Kanye” A solid opening salvo, to be sure. And since LDR isn’t really known for engaging in celebrity beefs (or anything other that ethereally drifting through artsy, Chris Isaak-y music videos), it was widely assumed she wouldn’t respond. Not only did she clap back, she straight up threatened to knock Azealia flat: “u know the addy. Pull up anytime. Say it to my face. But if I were you- I wouldn’t,” Del Rey tweeted. “I won’t not f–k you the f–k up. Period.” Another called out Banks directly saying, “Banks. u coulda been the greatest female rapper alive but u blew it. dont take it out on the only person who had ur back.” Unpopular opinion time: politics aside, we have to give the W to Azealia here. For one thing, responding to ideological differences with threats of violence is weak sauce, especially on social media, where there are no physical consequences to such actions. On top of that, if Del Rey and Banks were to square off, we’re pretty sure Lana would be the one getting f–ked up. He shared the news during a summit that his organization SocialWorks hosted on Thursday. There is often a stigma surrounding mental health amongst African Americans, and Bennet is aiming to change that narrative. As part of his six-figure donation, six mental health care facilities in the Cook County area will receive grants that are worth $100,000. His non-profit—which focuses on educating and empowering the youth through civic engagement and the arts—will also launch a new program dubbed “My State of Mind” that will make mental health treatment more accessible for those battling mental illness. Additionally, Bennett has pledged to donate more money to 20 Chicago Public Schools. Mental health is something that the rapper has personally battled with. In 2017, he publicly spoke about his struggles with anxiety. “Anxiety is now something that I’m just getting exposed to, it’s a big conversation and idea that I’m getting introduced to now,” he said in an interview, according to NME . “For a long time that wasn’t a thing that we talked about, I don’t remember people talking about it… when I was growing up… I’m starting to get a better understanding of that part of my life.” Several celebrities are launching initiatives that are centered on mental health and overall wellness.
