Lil Wayne Producer Bangladesh Plans Future Collaborations With Ke$ha

‘It gives her a whole new look and it shows how creative I am,’ Grammy-nominated producer says of Cannibal singer. By Jayson Rodriguez Bangladesh Photo: MTV News Producer Bangladesh ‘s biggest break came when he powered Lil Wayne ‘s “A Milli.” Then he upped the ante on Weezy’s recent release “6 Foot 7 Foot.” So, what does the Grammy-nominated beatsmith have in store for the new year? More of the same, actually. Bangladesh hopes to continue his genre-bending ways, whether it’s lending rock-leaning sensibilities to Lil Wayne or injecting a pop star’s work with edgy hip-hop drums. He and Dr. Luke (Britney Spears, Pink, Katy Perry) recently worked together on Ke$ha’s “Sleazy,” from her Cannibal LP. “I met Luke through a mutual friend, so it was like me walking into a stranger’s house,” Bangladesh told MTV News. “I really didn’t know what to expect. But it was all love. It was kind of like the roles were reversed, like I was the biggest producer and he just had a couple of hits. Once I saw how he felt about me, I was like man, I might be the truth. [ He laughs. ]” After hitting it off, they joined forces for “Sleazy,” the first of many collaborations Bangladesh is shooting for with the “Tik Tok” star. “That’s a good look, because it gives her a whole new look and it shows how creative I am,” he explained. “It shows how music is changing. And it shows that I’m kind of the changer behind it. The leader. I’m trying to mix the different genres where it’s still convincing, like, I believe them doing this.” Related Artists Ke$ha Lil Wayne

Will Lil Wayne Undergo A Rap Rebirth In 2011?

Young Money prez spent most of 2010 behind bars but a spasm-inducing single hints at an unstoppable year for the MC. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Steven Roberts Lil Wayne Photo: Getty Images Lil Wayne’s bound to have a better year in 2011 than he did in 2010. The superstar MC spent the majority of the past year (eight months) behind bars on Rikers Island after turning himself in on charges stemming from a 2007 gun case. Of course, even with a prison sentence, his achievements were nothing short of amazing in ’10: The rapper scored gold plaques for his rock-leaning effort, Rebirth, and his album I Am Not a Human Being ; steered the two biggest new acts in hip-hop, Drake and Nicki Minaj; and ignited stages just before ( Jay-Z’s Madison Square Garden show with Young Jeezy) and after ( Drake’s final tour stop in Las Vegas ) his incarceration. So, what does Weezy do for an encore? He’s already started by giving fans the first offering from his upcoming Tha Carter IV. “What’s really reassuring about ‘6 Foot 7 Foot’ is how familiar it sounds,” New York Times critic Jon Caramanica told MTV News. “I think that may be a liability, but it sounds like Wayne just before he went away.” The New Orleans rhyme slinger has been treading lightly on wax since his release from prison in November. He spit his first words on Birdman’s “Fire Flames” track and then unleashed his otherworldly powers on “6 Foot 7 Foot.” But his sparse output has only added to anticipation for what he has in store on Tha Carter IV. “There’s a lot of anticipation and I think he still sounds good and I think that he’s gonna win,” Rap Radar’s Elliott Wilson explained. He’s logged plenty of studio time already; in fact, just before he was scheduled to leave Rikers, Wayne requested beats be prepared for him. The New Orleans MC isn’t playing around. Now, it’s up to our #5 Man of the Year to take it up another level. “The energy is there like he’s excited,” Wilson said. “Like, they literally let him out the cage. He’s out to rip MCs’ heads off.” Do you think Lil Wayne can outdo himself in 2011? Tell us your predictions in the comments! Related Videos 2011 Forecast: The Year In Music

Lil Wayne Thanks Fans With Preview Of Rolling Stone Shoot

‘Thank you for making ‘6 Foot 7 Foot’ #1 on iTunes,’ Weezy writes. By Paul Cantor Lil Wayne in Rolling Stone Photo: DJ Scoob Doo On the heels of his performance alongside Eminem on “Saturday Night Live” this past weekend, Lil Wayne took to his blog WeezyThanxYou.com to express appreciation to his fans as well as offer a glimpse of a recent shoot he did for his upcoming Rolling Stone cover story. “The shoot was in Miami two weeks ago, and just being able to do this type of stuff again is therapeutic,” he wrote. “Be sure to pick up the issue when it hits stands. Thank you to the people at Rolling Stone for the opportunity.” The behind the scenes photo was taken by DJ Scoob Doo and shows Wayne standing shirtless in a photo studio with a pair of fluorescent sun glasses on, presumably looking at the Rolling Stone photographer’s lens. Wayne also thanked fans for supporting the first single from Tha Carter IV “6 Foot 7 Foot.” The song, which samples elements of Jamaican folk song “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song),” rocketed up the iTunes charts and landed at #1 in less than a week. “Thank you for making ‘6 Foot 7 Foot’ #1 on iTunes,” he wrote, “you will continue to be #1 in my heart.” Wayne is just starting to reemerge in public after being released from prison in early November. His appearance on “SNL” was his first televised appearance since then. On the show, he performed Eminem’s single “No Love,” from Recovery. Em ceded the spotlight after performing “Won’t Back Down,” and Wayne went into an electric-guitar-laden take of “6 Foot 7 Foot.” Of the highly anticipated performance, DJ Scoob Doo said, “The energy in the building is historical, and it’s extra special to see everybody fight for position backstage to see Lil Wayne take over ‘SNL.’ ” Related Artists Lil Wayne

Eminem and Lil Wayne Rock ‘Saturday Night Live’

Superstars team up for “No Love” and split the stage for “Won’t Back Down” and “6’7” on holiday-themed episode. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lil Wayne and Eminem perform “No Love” on “SNL” on Dec. 18 Photo: NBC Eminem and Lil Wayne sent “Saturday Night Live” viewers into the holiday season with a double dose of hip-hop over the weekend. The rap luminaries first rocked Em’s steely Haddaway-sampling joint “No Love,” backed by a live band on a set decked out in festive holiday decorations. Both MCs kept their style casually cool: Wayne rocked a white T-shirt and black plants while Em sported a brown jacket and gray beanie. Weezy spit the first verse with his signature unhinged energy, asserting his return to the live-television circuit. Em helmed the rest of the song, nimbly dropping his lyrics with abandon. The MCs split up for the final performance, with Eminem kicking things off with the Pink-assisted cut “Won’t Back Down.” Outfitted in a black jacket and cap, Em rocked the joint with the help of a hype man, spitting bars like, “How you douche bags feel?/ Knowing you’re disposable, Summer’s Eve, Massengill.” When Em wrapped up, the Detroit MC ceded the mic to Weezy, who hopped up onstage solo for the recently released “6’7″.” The live electric guitar-laced version was a super-charged departure from the Bangladesh-crafted banger, with Wayne knocking out the lyrics with his high-powered flow and vibing with a slew of similarly amped musicians. The “SNL” appearance is the latest team-up in a long list collaborations between the Shady boss and the Young Money captain. Em guested on Weezy’s “Drop the World” from the New Orleans vet’s rock-centric album “Rebirth.” Wayne returned the favor for Em’s Recovery cut “No Love.” Other hitmakers also popped up on Saturday night’s broadcast, which was hosted by “Tron Legacy” star Jeff Bridges. Akon helped Lonely Planet bust out an ode to gettin’ it on, belting “I just had sex!” Blake Lively and Jessica Alba made cameos as comely conquests as the crew gamely sang, “I’ll never go back to the not-having-sex ways of the past.” On “The Miley Cyrus Show” skit, featured player Vanessa Bayer played a giggly, hyper version of the teen starlet, and poked fun at the “Can’t Be Tamed” singer’s much-publicized salvia bong hit . Bayer’s Cyrus explained her “five-minute drug problem,” saying, “so, what happened was, I got really high — like really high.” Veteran actor Bridges also showed off his acting chops in several skits, playing an effeminate cowboy who doles out gussied-up Christmas presents, and starring in his own prank show “Jeff’d,” in which he messes with celebrity pals like Billy Bob Thornton and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
