Lady Gaga’s Meat Dress ‘Didn’t Smell At All,’ Insider Says

‘Is she really wearing a meat outfit?’ Gaga’s backstage VMA escort recalls thinking. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Lady Gaga’s meat dress is one of the biggest fashion statements in VMA history, but despite the outsize media, fan and PETA attention , the ensemble was actually one of the superstar’s more wearable looks of the evening. “It didn’t smell at all,” Ernesto Elias of MTV Music and Talent, who escorted Gaga to and from her seat throughout Sunday’s show, told MTV News on Thursday (September 16). Although Gaga was rocking pounds of raw meat under the glare of the Nokia Theatre lights, Elias said the fleshy frock wasn’t gag-inducing. “I actually was able to get a picture taken with her and kinda touched it. It was just your regular old feeling of meat.” The crafty couture may have had the usual touches of a choice cut of beef, but the visual punch the look packed was anything but typical. Well, maybe it was typical for Gaga. “Pretty much every time that dressing-room door would open up, it was always a surprise, because I never knew what to expect,” Elias said. “That last time was a real shock, just because I was confused if it was really meat or what. At first, it kind of looks fake, but at a closer glance, I could tell it was real.” Gaga’s final sashay backstage caught other VMA insiders off guard as well. “When I’m walking her from her dressing room to her seat, I’m always five or 10 steps ahead, just kind of clearing a path. And … people would just take a double take,” Elias said, describing the behind-the-scenes impact of Gaga’s outfit. “Just ’cause they weren’t quite sure what they were really looking at. Then she would walk by them, and they’d get a better glimpse, and [it] probably left them confused — as most people were.” Gaga kept the ensemble carcass-coordinated as well, encasing some sky-high heels in slivers of meat. “They were real shoes and they just used the meat and wrapped it around the shoes. They used the butcher’s twine to hold the meat in place,” Elias said. “The shoes … without the meat on them [were] just huge, like, heel platforms, I guess.” The meat mini capped off another night of decadent fashion, which included a black ball gown that “was very heavy. She needed to walk very slow to get to one place or another just because of the weight of the outfit,” Elias said. Gaga also hit the white carpet in a flowing Alexander McQueen creation as she simultaneously pulled off both a fashion and political statement with several openly gay military vets on her arm . Unlike her breakout runway-show-within-an-awards-show moment at the 2009 VMAs , Gaga had more time to put on each elaborate outfit. However, the pacing and styling of every look was very likely still planned with the same detail-oriented precision as her debut VMA outing. “She’s very professional in how she’s coming across with all this sort of stuff,” Elias said. And as millions of viewers and VMA attendees witnessed at this year’s festivities, Gaga kept it consistent with some seriously “over-the-top” fashion . Even Elias, who led Gaga through the gaggle of backstage mayhem that is the VMAs, had to reflect upon the impact of the protein-packed garb. “I was probably just thinking: Is she really wearing a meat outfit?” What did you think of Lady Gaga’s VMA fashion? Lil Wayne’s Glow-In-The-Dark Tattoos Are ‘For Real,’ Director Says

Black-light ‘I Am Not a Human Being’ video shows off Weezy’s fluorescent ink. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images For music-video director David Rousseau, working with Lil Wayne was a gift and a curse. A curse because the Cash Money Records superstar is incarcerated and not readily available to approve changes or edits; a gift, though, because the rapper is exuberant and camera-friendly, ready to offer concepts and suggestions for his clips. For his “I Am Not a Human Being” visual — which is still not ready; the version that landed online Wednesday wasn’t finished — Wayne came up with the idea to showcase his glow-in-the-dark tattoos. “The thing about this video, it was his concept to shoot the black light, ’cause that way the tats that he has, they glow in the dark. That’s actually for real; that’s not a camera trick or post-production,” Rousseau told MTV News. “The tattoos that he has on him when you put the black light on him, they glow in the dark. He came up with that idea. So really, the rest of the video was a springboard on that.” The song is the title track from Weezy’s forthcoming EP, which is set to drop later this month for free on the Web. The footage from the clip was shot earlier this year, when Wayne and Rousseau worked on upward of 12 videos the rapper hoped to finish before his incarceration, including numbers for his Rebirth album and portions of Drake’s “Miss Me” clip . When Rousseau sat down to work with all the material after Wayne turned himself in to a New York City prison, the director said his work was easier after the foundation was already laid. Rousseau said he just had to listen to the lyrics and portray the MC in an abstract sense, which includes contrasting shots of his writing process and flashes of money. “After listening to the track, he’s talking about just not being a human being, being totally different, is he an alien,” Rousseau explained. “So the idea grew from that. It wasn’t that hard, because we already had a base of what the concept would be when we shot his performance earlier this year.” Are you looking forward to the official “I Am Not a Human Being” video? Chris Pine Surprised By George Clooney Movie Reports

Landing the role in ‘Farragut North’ adaptation would be Pine’s ‘dream come true.’ By Kara Warner Chris Pine Photo: Sergio Dionisio/Getty Images With all the high-speed Internet connections and mobile devices out there, we receive breaking news at blistering speeds these days. And in movie news, one rumor can spark a million stories. Case in point: when New York magazine Vulture blog reported that George Clooney was planning to follow through with his plans to adapt the play “Farragut North” into a feature film, with Chris Pine attached to star. But we here at MTV News like to take every possible opportunity to clarify or confirm rumors. And when the very pleasant Pine called to chat about his upcoming thriller “Unstoppable” a few days after the Clooney news surfaced, we had to ask his thoughts about it. “I have, I mean, I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said with some hesitation. So, we told him the short version of the story. “Wow!” he responded, sounding genuinely shocked. “Um, that would be that would be another dream come true,” he said, having mentioned earlier that working with Denzel Washington and Ridley Scott on “Unstoppable” was just that. “Farragut North,” written by former Democratic political operative Beau Willimon, revolves around the shady tactics a young presidential campaign wunderkind named Stephen Myers uses to get his candidate the nomination against a rival senator. “I love that part, I love the story,” said Pine, who received rave reviews in the lead role of “Farragut” on stage last year. “I think it’s a wonderful, wonderful story about a really intelligent young guy who’s kind of hyper articulate, and spinning a bunch of plates at once that’s obviously hiding a lot of trauma and a lot of insecurity and a lot of hurt. And to work with George Clooney, that would be pretty f—ing awesome.” We then mentioned the report that Clooney is eyeing Philip Seymour Hoffman and Paul Giamatti as Pine’s potential co-stars. His reaction? He laughed out loud in disbelief. “Jesus Christ! Well, you can’t get better than that,” he said. “I hope it works out. That would be a lot of fun.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Lil Wayne’s Spirits Lifted By Brett Favre’s Prayers

‘Brett reached out, and he made sure I told Wayne that,’ Young Money’s Mack Maine tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne Photo: Derrick G Celebrity Favorites: Lil Wayne He’ll miss a little over a month, but if things go according to schedule, Lil Wayne will be out of prison in time to catch most of the NFL season. Last week, the season kicked off with Wayne’s home team, Super Bowl champions the New Orleans Saints, beating Weezy’s favorite player, Brett Favre, and the Minnesota Vikings. As Young Money President Mack Maine told MTV News recently, Weezy is elated that Favre didn’t hang up his shoulder pads and go into retirement. “He’s loving that,” Maine said of Wayne’s feelings about Favre’s decision to play his 20th year in the league. “That gives [Wayne] more incentive to watch this year, because that’s his favorite player. Shout-out to Brett too. Brett reached out, and he made sure I told Wayne that. That was the first thing [Brett] asked when he got back to camp, really. [Vikings tackle] Bryant McKinnie is one of our friends, B-Mac. [Favre] asked B-Mac, ‘How you been?’ B-Mac answered. And he was like, ‘How’s Wayne?’ That was his second question to B-Mac. Those two are real good friends. He said, ‘Let [Wayne] know I been praying for him and send him my love.’ So I let Wayne know that. He said, ‘You just brightened my spirits up for the rest of the month.’ He was real excited.” Maine said he thinks #4 should have another stellar season — just as long as he has security. “I think Favre should be good,” Mack said of the future Hall of Famer. “The offensive line gotta make sure they protect him. They don’t need him getting beat like that.” It’s safe to say we’ll see Wayne somewhere watching the field this year after he’s released in November. Mack said the Fireman will also be courtside watching the NBA’s most-talked-about team. “Wayne’s pretty excited,” Mack said, bringing up the Miami Heat’s dream team of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. “And you know we live in Miami. We’ll be going to those Heat games too. I had to throw that in there. LeBron, we got our floor seats already. D. Wade. Bosh!” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Related Videos Mixtape Daily: Drake, Rick Ross

The new video is mostly Wayne performing, with the lights turned low and his tats glowing in the dark. “I don’t know why they keep playing/ They better replay it/ I’m giving them the blues, Bobby Blue Bland,” he raps on the first verse. “Together we stand and fall on y’all/ Balling with my bloods/ Call it b-ball.” Later, he calls himself a “rhyming oasis.” “I must be sticky, ’cause them bitches got they eyes glued,” he continues. “Young Money, baby, we the sh– like fly food/ Y’all can’t see us, like the bride’s shoes/ … If you think you hot then obviously you were lied to/ And we don’t die, we multiply, and then we come divide you.” The long-awaited Tha Carter IV is dropping in November , if everything goes according to plan. “We might just drop the album that day,” Mack Maine said recently about putting out C4 the day Weezy is set to get out of prison. “Just hope it don’t leak out and drop it that day. I think it would be crazy, the anticipation.” Mack said Wayne is deeply involved in Tha Carter IV ‘s song-selection process despite currently serving his yearlong sentence on Rikers Island. ‘Magic mushrooms’ ingredient beneficial to cancer patients, report says – latimes.com

Researchers find psilocybin improved the anxiety and depression of terminal cancer patients for up to six months. The study is considered a first step in restoring the hallucinogen's respectability. By Thomas H. Maugh II, Los Angeles Times September 7, 2010 The psychedelic drug psilocybin, the active ingredient in “magic mushrooms,” can improve mood and reduce anxiety and depression in terminal cancer patients, Los Angeles researchers reported Monday. A single modest dose of the hallucinogen, whose reputation was severely tarnished by widespread nonmedical use in the psychedelic '60s and ethical lapses by researchers such as Timothy Leary, can improve patients' functioning for as long as six months, allowing them to spend their last days with more peace, researchers said. The research was a pilot study involving only 12 patients, but it is viewed as a first step in restoring the drug to respectability.
