David Guetta Works With ‘Exciting Artist’ Afrojack On ‘Louder Than Words’

‘He’s a fantastic producer,’ Guetta says of the phenom. By Adam Stewart and Akshay Bhansali David Guetta Photo: Jemal Countess/ Getty Images The dance-music world has a new, towering figure: At over 6 feet tall, Afrojack stands above many of his fellow house-music DJ/producers not just physically, but also in sheer production skill. “Afrojack is really killing it at the moment — any number of his tunes can be a huge tune,” Calvin Harris told MTV News recently. “I feel like Afrojack is one of the most important people to come along in a while,” house-music legend Tommie Sunshine said. “I mean, he’s just introduced this whole new sonic palette to the whole spectrum of music!” From Lil Jon to Ti

Drake Talks ‘Miss Me,’ His Thank Me Later Collabo With Lil Wayne

Young Money MC also clarifies the status of the ‘Afrika Bambaataa’ track to Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Rahman Dukes and Sway Calloway Drake and Lil Wayne Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive The plot thickens when it comes to the record “Afrika Bambaataa.” Weeks ago, before he went to prison, Wayne revealed on his “Nino Brown: The Road To Rikers” DVD that he was shooting a video to a song called “Afrika Bambaataa” for Drake. Everyone speculated that the song in question would be part of Weezy’s contribution to Drizzy’s Thank Me Later album. On Monday in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, before the start of his Away From Home Tour , Drake told us “Afrika Bambaataa” isn’t his record. “That’s actually a Lil Wayne song,” he explained. “I don’t know where that confusion came from. I was just on set that day when he was shooting that video. That’s not even my song. I’m not even on it, to be honest with you. Me and Wayne have a song on my album — a song called ‘Miss Me.’ “It’s a pretty straightforward [song],” he continued. “It’s a song about being away from what you love and hoping that when you’re gone, doing you, somebody out there misses you. It goes for Wayne in his situation and it goes for me in my situation, ’cause I’m on the road for I don’t how long right now.” Drake also revealed that he redid the chorus for Wayne’s song “Single” off of the No Ceilings mixtape. MTV’s Musical March Madness Final Four Preview: Tokio Hotel

With a rabid fanbase on their sides, TH seem to be a lock for the championship game. By James Montgomery Tokio Hotel Photo: Interscope/Getty Images/MTV News Who : The improbable champions of the East region in MTV’s Musical March Madness tournament , Tokio Hotel are the lowest-seeded band left standing in the tournament, and, to be quite honest, they almost didn’t make it at all. Yet they continued to knock off higher-seeded bands, and with each victory, they slowly emerged as a squad to be reckoned with. A straight finesse team, TH rely mainly (some would say exclusively ) on the outside shot — rangy point guard Bill Kaulitz has a deft jumper — and when the 3’s are falling, they’re as tough to beat as anybody. Though they may be small inside (Gustav Schafer does not clean up on the boards), they have speed, agility and a precision-guided long-range game on their sides. Can they win the whole thing? At this point, we suppose anything is possible. How They Got Here : In one word, impressively. TH entered the tournament on an at-large bid, seeded 16th in the East, and were placed in a first-round matchup against #1 Coldplay. They shocked the world by pounding Chris Martin and company 81-19, then rolled Radiohead in the second round. With a pair of high-profile wins under their studded belts, Tokio took on fourth-seeded Vampire Weekend in the Sweet 16, and despite VW frontman Ezra Koenig’s objections , they advanced easily, winning 63-37. Their toughest matchup came against #3 Owl City in the Elite Eight, and though both acts boast rabid, ready-to-vote fanbases, Tokio Hotel came out on top again, by an equally large number. In fact, none of Tokio Hotel’s tilts have even been close, which either means they’re a juggernaut or they’ve yet to be tested. We’re betting on the former. The Outlook : Can we just go ahead and pencil them in for the championship game? With an insanely dedicated international following, Tokio appear to be the team to beat, though we’ve yet to see if they’ve got the guts to win a close one. Then again, with as powerful a fanbase as they’ve got, it’s entirely possible they’ll never even be in a close one. They flourished as the underdogs, but how will Tokio Hotel handle the pressure of being the top dogs? We’ll just have to wait and see — and their Final Four matchup against Coheed and Cambria should be a pretty good test. At the very least, it will set the Internet on fire. Throughout the day, we’ll be breaking down the four bands still standing in MTV’s Musical March Madness tournament. Voting on the Final Four opens Friday (April 2) on the Newsroom blog and runs until Sunday night. Related Photos Who Will Win MTV’s Musical March Madness?! Lil Wayne Launches New Site To Keep Fans Updated From Prison

‘I’m in good spirits man, for real,’ Wayne posted on WeezyThanxYou.com. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Lil Wayne may be away for the moment , but the rapper is making sure he’s not forgotten while he’s gone. The imprisoned superstar launched a new Web site on Friday (April 2), WeezyThanxYou.com , where he’ll post weekly updates, blog about sports and respond to letters he’s received from fans since he began his prison stint last month. “Your letter was so thoughtful and sincere,” he wrote in response to Nurris Terrero of New York. “The way you worded everything left me in awe. Please send suggestions on books I should read. I look forward to checking them out.” In the first posting, Wayne explains that he’s been spending his days working out and reading the bible. The rapper also announced he will revive his popular ESPN blog, where in the past he opined on various sports. Next week’s scheduled post will be on the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Wayne, a father of four, said his family has been most pressing on his mind during his sentence. “My kids race through my mind all day. They know they were created with love, so love is how their life will be defined. I just hope my love and adoration for them provides a temporary bandage on a wound I unknowingly inflicted on them.” “I’m in good spirits man, for real,” he wrote, contradicting rumors he had been involved in an altercation at Rikers Island . In addition to the postings, the site features a clock that counts down how much time the rapper has until his release. It currently rests at 215 days. Fans can also purchase merchandise on WeezyThanxYou.com, including “Free Weezy” Young Money T-shirts. The site was created by Lil Wayne in conjunction with popular hip-hop bloggers Karen Civil and Karla “hustleGRL” Moy. “Weezy explained to me the idea behind WeezyThanxYou.com, which will basically serve as his gateway to the free world,” Civil said in a statement to MTV News. “The site will allow the Young Money quarterback to post daily status updates as well as answer fan questions. ‘I wanted to do something for my fans, so they know I am still with them and that I love them very much,’ Wayne told me not too long ago. Fans who want to keep up on Weezy’s release date will be allowed to see a continuously running countdown clock until Dr. Carter returns home later this year.” What do you think of Lil Wayne’s new Web site? Lil Wayne Not Involved In Weekend Brawl, Rikers Island Source Says

Source says Wayne is doing ‘well’ in jail. By Shaheem Reid, with reporting by Rahman Dukes Lil Wayne Photo: MTV News From all indications, Lil Wayne is doing fine in prison. He began his sentence on March 8 and arrived at Rikers Island later that day, and last week, his friend and associate Mack Maine posted a message on Twitter saying: “Jus left Rikers Island … Spoke wit Wayne for 2hrs … He’s good. Told me to tell y’all wadup … Special website komin soon … #thank God … LUV.” On Monday (March 29), a source inside Rikers Island who asked that his name not be made public gave MTV News some observations about how Wayne is holding up. “He’s doing well. He’s adapting to the situation,” the source said, adding that Wayne was not involved in a brawl that took place at the facility over the weekend in which 13 officers and three inmates were injured, according to New York’s Daily News . The incident reportedly occurred after inmates refused to be locked in for the night, and did not take place in the area of the facility where Wayne is being held. The source also scotched a rumor that Wayne got into a confrontation with another inmate just days after his sentencing. “That’s a rumor I heard, but nothing substantiated,” the source said, adding that Wayne is usually in protective custody and, for the most part, has been getting a positive reaction from inmates. However, the source said that some inmates seem not to be aware of his situation. “While he’s walking the hallways, he’s told not to communicate with these guys,” the source explained. “So they’re a bit disgruntled because he’s not hollering back.” Wayne was sentenced to a year in prison on gun-possession charges and could be released after serving eight months , assuming good behavior. Kim Kardashian: Dating Wayne Bridge?

Fresh off her breakup with Super Bowl champion Reggie Bush, is Kim Kardashian already moving on with Wayne Bridge? Who the hell is Wayne Bridge? Kim would like to know that as well. The celebrity’s life may move fast, but romantically, not quite so fast, despite rumors of Reggie cheating on Kim , and new reports in the U.K.’s Sun . In fact, she’s never even heard of the soccer player the tabloid claims she’s been trading text messages with, at least according to her own Twitter . “Who the hell is Wayne Bridge? LOL Someone please fill me in because I have no clue,” Kardashian writes … and that’s certainly a reasonable inquiry. While it would make a juicier story if Kim were dating the footballer while Reggie was sneaking around with January Gessert , it looks like it’s not so. Guess that clears that up. Here are pics of them anyway … admit it, they’d totally make a hot couple, right? Reggie is getting so jealous right now… UNDER THE BRIDGE? Kim Kardashian hasn’t been. At least not Wayne .

Nicki Minaj Calls Lil Wayne’s Jail Time ‘An Emotional Roller Coaster’

‘We wouldn’t wish it on any crew in the game,’ she says at mtvU Spring Break. By Jayson Rodriguez Nicki Minaj Photo: Johnny Nunez/ Getty Images It’s been a trying time for the Young Money camp since Lil Wayne began his yearlong prison bid. The rapper’s sentencing and subsequent jail stint were delayed numerous times before he finally entered New York’s Rikers Island. Nicki Minaj called the experience “confusing.” “His actual time to go in had been changing, up and down,” she said during mtvU Spring Break. “So it’s been an emotional roller coaster for all of us involved because we never knew when the last text message or that last hug was the actual last text message or hug. It was very, very strange. We wouldn’t wish it on any crew in the game.” Lil Wayne took advantage of the additional time he was afforded to shoot more videos — he shot nearly 20 clips leading up to his imprisonment — and to make a guest appearance during Young Jeezy’s set on Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 Tour stop in New York. While Wayne is away, his team has pledged to keep the YM torch scorching hot. Drake vowed to take the lead in Wayne’s absence. “I’m gonna do everything I told him I would do, what I said in the song [‘Over’]: keep us afloat till he gets back,” he told MTV News. “You won’t even notice he’s gone. Promise.” Minaj described the unusual circumstances that led to her, Drake and the rest of the Young Money crew appearing at mtvU Spring Break without Lil Wayne. Last year, Wayne was a part of the festivities, which also included performances by Jim Jones, Asher Roth and Kid Cudi. He brought Drake and Nicki along as guests during his set. Now, it’s their turn to apply the lessons Wayne taught them, Nicki said. “We remember last year being at MTV Spring Break, and Wayne was obviously the headliner,” she recalled. “He’s so much more than a headliner, he’s a person that I look at, and I can’t believe this guy is still going, after 20 to 30 minutes in the hot sun. To not have him here, it’s like a life lesson for all of us — always work as if we have no one else to depend on — and that’s what he teaches us. He did, like, 1,000 videos before he went in, knowing that he had to go to jail. A lot of us wouldn’t do that. A lot of us would be curled up on a ball like, ‘Oh my God, my life is about to be over.’ So shout-out to Lil Wayne. We’re honored that he chose each and every one of us, handpicked us. And we love him.” Young Money will appear on the “Sucker Free Countdown” Sunday at noon on MTV2 when Funkmaster Flex will interview the camp. Whose performance did you like best at Spring Break? Drake Promises ‘You Won’t Even Notice’ Lil Wayne Is Gone

Rapper says he’ll keep Young Money ‘afloat till he gets back.’ By Shaheem Reid Drake Photo: MTV News The pledge is on wax and MP3: On his new single “Over,” Drake raps, “Making sure the Young Money ship is never sinking.” Even though the head of his label, Lil Wayne, is in jail , Drake insisted there’s no way he’ll let the camp slip from its top spot. “I’m gonna do everything I told him I would do, what I said in the song: keep us afloat till he gets back,” Drake said on the set of his “Over” video . “You won’t even notice he’s gone. Promise.” Last week, Wayne was sentenced to a year in jail for a 2007 gun-possession charge, but Drake knows his leader will be OK. “Lil Wayne is a legend,” Drake said. “I could never classify Wayne as victim. He’s too strong to me. Wayne is who he wants to be. People don’t understand. It’s really not an act. Lil Wayne is a character you’ll rarely run across, probably for the existence of human beings. He is that guy. He is Lil Wayne for a reason. He’s a rock star, a visionary, a workaholic. He doesn’t function like anybody I know. He’s a rare breed. “I don’t think fame really has anything to do with his situation,” Drizzy continued. “We take precautions. All of us do. To be in the public eye and to be envied and have people who hate you and never have met you or have people who love you and tattoo your face on their body and never have met you, it’s an odd feeling for anybody. It’s a rush [for me]. I love it. It gets weird sometimes. So it’s just personal choices we all make. I never felt that threatened. I’m not sure what’s going through his head at the time. But Wayne has a reason for everything, always. I trust in Wayne. I believe in Wayne. He’s gonna be all right.” Will you miss Lil Wayne during his jail time?
