‘Thor’ Sequel Set For July 2013

Star Chris Hemsworth will return, but director Kenneth Branagh will not. By Kara Warner Chris Hemsworth in “Thor” Photo: Paramount Pictures Given its mighty haul at the box office earlier this summer, Disney and Marvel Studios have officially green-lit a “Thor” sequel to be released July 26, 2013. Deadline originally reported that Chris Hemsworth will return to play the titular God of Thunder, but director Kenneth Branagh will not be back, which Disney confirmed to MTV News. When we spoke with Branagh prior to the film’s release in May, the esteemed thespian seemed to be interested in continuing the story of the haughty Asgardian but was cautious about stating outright that he would be 100 percent in to direct a second “Thor” film. “The prospect of [a sequel] is very tantalizing and fascinating,” Branagh diplomatically told MTV News. “I loved working with this group of actors and had a fantastic experience working with everyone in the Marvel family.” At the time, Branagh mentioned the fact that getting a sequel off the ground would require major box-office success and support from the fans — which, with a $437 million worldwide gross, the fans and money talked. Branagh also added that whether or not he was directing future installments, he was still a fan of the world of the Marvel Thunder God. “When I first got involved with this, I was so thrilled. The first big, really exciting moment when I started really going through the comic books was all the descriptions of powers,” he explained. “I loved it, amazing. People’s body weights, how tall they were, what they could do, all of that kind of stuff. There’s a vast amount of that from the Thor universe that I’d like to see.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Thor.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Anthony Weiner Admits to Lewd Photos, Labels Actions a "Personal Failing"

In the face of mounting evidence – including an investigation of his Twitter platform and the discovery of another inappropriate photo – New York Congressman Anthony Weiner held a press conference today and admitted: I lied. I did send lewd photos to multiple women online. The scandal first erupted at the end of May, as a picture of Weiner’s covered crotch was found online, purported to be Tweeted to a 21-year old follower. Weiner immediately hired a lawyer, but also gave interviews in which he blamed the incident on a “prank.” But that defense became more untenable in the following days, resulting in today’s admission. During the press conference, Weiner said: He never met any of the women in question. He’s exchanged sexually explicit photos with “at least six women.” He dodged a question about whether or not he had “phone sex” with them and simply said they were adults and all actions were “consensual.” He told his wife the truth this morning and she was “very disappointed.” She also said she loved him and wanted the couple to “pull through.” He never asked anyone to lie or orchestrated any kind of cover-up. His staff was unaware of his actions. He labeled his actions “a personal failure” and said “I did a regrettable thing and for that I apologize.” He will not resign. You can watch the press conference below: Anthony Weiner Press Conference – I Lied.. We’ll have more on this story as news breaks. For now, you tell us: Should Weiner resign?

Where Are Our Parents: 16-Year-Old Wanted For The Murder Of His 13-Year-Old Brother

We don’t even know where to start with this one. Hours after three brothers were seen playing with a gun outside their home, a 13-year-old Cobb County boy was dead Thursday night. A 16-year-old older brother is accused in death. But Friday afternoon, he was still on the loose. When he’s found, Oscar Mondragon is expected to be charged as an adult and face felony murder and aggravated assault charges, Sgt. Dana Pierce with Cobb County police told the AJC. Until then, investigators are asking for the public’s help in locating the teen, who should be considered armed and dangerous, Pierce said. Officers responding to a 9:24 p.m. 911 call about a shooting at the Eastside Mobile Home Park on Eastside Drive found the younger boy dead inside the trailer, Pierce said. Police did not release the name of the victim, but neighbors told the AJC the boy who died was Javier Mondragon, one of six children living in the home. Police have not yet determined what led to the shooting and whether or not it was accidental, Pierce said. Investigators plan to question Oscar Mondragon once he is located. “He does have a lot of companions and fellow friends in that area,” Pierce said. “It could be that someone is harboring him.” A person who knowingly assists the suspect could also face charges, Pierce said. Friends and neighbors at the mobile home park described Javier as a polite boy who was looking forward to being a seventh-grader at Griffin Middle School in the fall. “He was the best friend I’ve ever had,” Emoni Jones, 13, told the AJC as her mother, Errietta Jones, stood beside her. “I tell him everything and I trust him with everything. He didn’t deserve to die like that.” Our initial thought was that maybe this was just a tragic accident and the older brother was getting bad advice from friends encouraging him to hide out. But, neighbors pretty much described Oscar Mondragon as the kind of kid who people much expected to see behind bars at some point. How terrible this must be for the family though. Source

Monsters University’s New Logo: A Little Sophomoric

I know everyone’s rankings of Pixar’s best movies are all wrong except mine, but I hope we can agree that Monsters, Inc. clocks in near the top of the list. Keep your self-important WALL *E and your maudlin Finding Nemo ; I think the imagination of Monsters, Inc (and that insane door world) bests them both. Now that you’ve agreed, let’s observe the logo for the 2012 sequel Monsters University . It better be temporary.
