The playoffs wrapped on The Voice Tuesday, cementing the Top 12 as we move on to the live shows next week and ending the coaching phase. Up until this point, each of the surviving singers have either won two battles and/or enough points from a coach to advance. Now that’s all over. The coaches trimmed their rosters from five to three singers for the live shows, and Tuesday’s one-hour episode put Usher’s contestants in the hot seat. Melissa Jimenez tackled a stripped-down version of a demanding song in Beyonce’s “Halo,” soaring on the long notes, but occasionally losing support. Stevie Jo went with BB King’s “The Thrill Is Gone,” full of loose blues riffs, raspy moments and falsettos, even if he held some notes for too long. Bria Kelly picked up a guitar for The Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses,” and put forth an emotional performance that while not her best, was strong. Josh Kaufman dedicated Bruno Mars’ “It Will Rain” to his wife, adding a lot of raspy high notes that the original track doesn’t have, and earning praise. The late Peaches Geldof’s relatives are struggling to come to grips with their grief in the wake of the UK journalist, socialite and media personality’s death. Peaches’ sister Fifi Geldof memorialized her sibling on Instagram today, writing: “My beautiful baby sister… Gone but never forgotten. I love you, Peaches x.” Peaches Geldof died Monday. Her death is under investigation by police. Geldof was pronounced dead by paramedics who were called to her London home, though officials told the AP that they do not consider her death suspicious. Geldof’s father, singer-songwriter Bob Geldof , said he is “beyond pain.” “She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and most bonkers of all of us,” he said. “What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again?” “How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever.” Peaches Geldof Dies Her husband Thomas Cohen said in his own statement Monday: “My beloved wife Peaches was adored by myself and her two sons Astala and Phaedra. I shall bring them up with their mother in their hearts everyday.” The former model is also being tragically compared to her late mother, the former TV presenter and writer Paula Yates, who died at age 41 in 2000. Peaches Geldof, the daughter of world-famous musician Bob Geldof, died Monday in Kent, England. She was only 25, and her father is at an utter loss. “We are beyond pain,” Bob Geldof said in a statement Monday. “She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us.” It remains unclear how Peaches Geldof died , but it came as a shock. Medical personnel were first called to an address in a small town in Kent over “a report of concern for the welfare of a woman” on Monday afternoon. “A woman aged 25 was pronounced dead by South East Coast Ambulance Service,” Kent Police said later in a statement released to the media. “At this stage, the death is being treated as an unexplained sudden death . Police are working to establish the circumstances around the death.” A rep added that no further details would be disclosed on Monday. Peaches Geldof is best known for her contributions in the fashion and entertainment industries, where she’s worked as a columnist for Elle magazine. She wrote for UK newspapers the Telegraph and Guardian , and also worked as a TV presenter, hosting a series called OMG! with Peaches Geldof . This is not the first tragedy to have affected the Geldof family. Peaches lost her mother, Paula Yates, in September 2000 due to a drug overdose. Peaches Geldof was just 11 years old when Yates passed away, and she later said it was a struggle for her to accept that her mother had died. “I remember the day my mother died, and it’s still hard to talk about it,” Geldof said in an interview with Elle UK in late 2012. “I just blocked it out.” “I went to school the next day because my father’s mentality was ‘keep calm and carry on.’ I didn’t start grieving for my mother properly until I was maybe 16.” Peaches went on to marry rocker Max Drummey, but they split up in 2009 after just six months of marriage and finalized their divorce in 2011. In 2012, she married Thomas Cohen, with whom she shares two young kids, sons Astala, 23 months, and Phaedra, not even 12 months. Cohen released his own statement Monday and said: “My beloved wife Peaches was adored by myself and her two sons Astala and Phaedra. I shall bring them up with their mother in their hearts everyday.” “We shall love her forever.” Along with her husband and sons, Geldof is survived by her father, sisters Pixie and Fifi Trixibelle, and half-sister Tiger Lily Hutchence Geldof. All it took was one night with Lady Gaga to drive David Letterman away. We kid, but the day after Gaga sang for the first time on The Late Show, Letterman announced his retirement as a talk show host. The comedian told his studio audience at today’s taping of his decision, with REM bassist Mike Mills Tweeting the news and various outlets subsequently confirming that Letterman will recite his final Top 10 List some time next year. David Letterman Retirement Announcement Letterman got his big break by performing stand-up many times on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He was then given NBC’s Late Night in 1982. In 1993, Letterman moved to CBS and became the host of The Late Show. His contract is set to expire in 2015 and he said at this afternoon’s taping that he’ll step away “sometime in the not too distant future.” That’s when “Paul and I will be wrapping things up.” In February, of course, Jay Leno stepped down from The Tonight Show and Jimmy Fallon has been killing it in the ratings ever since. Expect speculation to soon begin over who will take over for Letterman, but let’s stop before that gets out of control and admire one of the funniest men to ever grace a television screen.
