Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz laugh to MTV News about spending way too much time at Whole Foods during ‘Twilight’ downtime. By Kara Warner with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene Photo: MTV News Although the “Twilight” cast has wrapped filming on the franchise’s two-part final chapter, “Breaking Dawn,” their work together is far from over, considering the very last film won’t open in theaters until November 2012 and the young actors have plenty of promotional commitments to fulfill until then. But having spent so much time together, we wondered whether the castmembers ever get sick of one another. When MTV News caught up with Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, we put that question to them. We also asked the two stars if they had thought about how they’ll feel when it’s time to say goodbye to the series. “We’re never sick of each other,” Lutz said. “You do a project for seven months of your life, and you’re really just anxious to get home. I was really excited to see my dogs, [sleep] in my own bed. And then … we’re here at Comic-Con; we’re going to be here next year. We have a lot of press and a lot of opportunities to hang out with the fans, and that’s what I really look forward to,” he admitted. “Playing my role of Emmett — I love doing these movies — but by no way are we saying goodbye. I knew soon as Diddy got news that Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony was getting a divorce, he would be somewhere trying to get that old thing back. According to one of the many MTO snitches, Jennifer Lopez reached out to Diddy last year when her marriage began to crumble. Diddy was in shock because the two have not spoken in years, and out of nowhere she is calling and texting. She kept in contact for months and on two occasions the two physically met. At Comic-Con, ‘Twilight’ actor says he and John Singleton studied film. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Taylor Lautner Photo: MTV News SAN DIEGO — Taylor Lautner is ready to abduct the title of Hollywood’s resident action star when “Abduction” hits theaters September 23, but he didn’t get there without a little inspiration from some of the genre’s greatest actors. When MTV caught up with the “Twilight Saga” star at Comic-Con 2011 this week, he revealed that he did more than admire the top action actors: He studied them. Considering “Abduction” is being described along the lines of the “Bourne” movies and “Minority Report,” it makes sense that Tom Cruise and Matt Damon are among Lautner’s biggest role models. “I studied film with John Singleton while preparing for the movie, and I chose Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, Denzel Washington, Harrison Ford; we just went down the list,” Lautner explained. “It would be an honor to have a tenth the career that those guys have.” Having spent so much time watching the movies, Lautner said he sometimes found himself copying their moves during his takes. It took him time to take a step back and figure out how to tailor — or “Taylor” — their concepts to his own acting style. After reuniting last year, the grunge gods prove they can still shred. By Mary J. DiMeglio Chris Cornell (file) Photo: Bill McCay/ Getty Images MORRISON, Colorado — An ecstatic-looking Chris Cornell gazed over the Red Rocks Amphitheater on Monday night and declared, “We’re Soundgarden , and we’re back.” Setting off the night with “Searching with My Good Eye Closed” from 1991’s Badmotorfinger and the Grammy-winning “Spoonman,” one of their first big hits, the recently reunited grunge gods quickly cleared any doubts about whether they still had it, even after 14 years apart. “We’re doing this because of you,” Cornell professed. After the frontman encouraged the crowd to “smoke it all so you don’t get busted on the way home,” the band unleashed “Jesus Christ Pose,” with Matt Cameron’s pummeling of the drums reminding everyone that while he’s served as drummer for Pearl Jam since Soundgarden’s 1997 breakup, it was his work with tonight’s headliner that made him sought after. The band then allowed the audience to take a breath, slowing down the already-sleepy “Blow Up the Outside World.” The song’s fade out had the sold-out crowd of 9,400 chanting in unison. Cornell reveled at the venue his reformed group had taken on. “We played here before, and maybe a little bit was lost on us,” he said. “It’s f—ing amazing.” Between songs, he coaxed attendees to shriek just for the hell of it, giving props to the amphitheater’s legendary acoustics. “This big rock over here and this one over there,” he said, referencing the two giant stones that flank the seating area, “it acts like a speaker, funnels down to my head. It’s trippy.” The Seattle foursome revisited their breakthrough album, Superunknown, for three in row, following “The Day I Tried to Live” with “My Wave” and “Fell on Black Days.” They went all the way back to their Screaming Life/Fopp EP for “Nothing to Say” and shredded eardrums with “Rusty Cage.” For “Outshined,” Cornell dropped his guitar in favor of a microphone stand as his temporary weapon of choice, alternately waving it and pounding it into the stage. As seasoned bands often do, Soundgarden changed up some of their biggest hits when most fans probably would have preferred the radio version. And while Cornell shied away from some of the notes on the choruses of “Black Hole Sun” and “Pretty Noose,” it seems he was saving his pipes for the set-ending fan favorite “Slaves & Bulldozers.” Having admirably conquered the night’s 20-plus selections, Cornell explored the heights of his iconic wail without hesitation. The band — which released its first-ever live album, Live on the I-5, earlier this year — is currently crafting its first studio LP since 1996. Though nothing new was debuted during Monday night’s hit parade, fans can be hopeful that they channel the passion they displayed for their old material.
