Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Resented People Expecting Her To Be Grateful To Beyoncé Several years have passed since Beyoncé released the self-titled album which exposed millions of fans to her newfound feminine side, a side best reflected in the song “Flawless” which included excerpts from accomplished author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s TED Talk “We Should All Be Feminists.” After years of declining to speak on her inclusion, Ngozi Adichie recently revealed her feelings about her work being included on the Beyoncé album. In an interview with Volkskrant at the Brainwash Festival in Amsterdam Ngozi Adichie confirms that she was onboard — at least at first: ‘In the first place: of course Beyoncé asked permission to use my texts, and I did give her permission. I think she’s lovely and I am convinced that she has nothing but the best intentions. In addition, Beyoncé is a celebrity of the first order and with this song she has reached many people who would otherwise probably never have heard the word feminism, let alone gone out and buy my essay.’ ‘But I was shocked about how many requests for an interview I received when that song was released. Literally every major newspaper in the world wanted to speak with me about Beyoncé. I felt such a resentment (laughs loudly). I thought: are books really that unimportant to you? Another thing I hated was that I read everywhere: now people finally know her, thanks to Beyoncé, or: she must be very grateful. I found that disappointing. I thought: I am a writer and I have been for some time and I refuse to perform in this charade that is now apparently expected of me: “Thanks to Beyoncé, my life will never be the same again.” That’s why it didn’t speak about it much.’ Zaaaayuuuuuum girl. But that has to be annoying to work your butt off so hard and then have Beyoncé get all the credit like she discovered you. Still it does seem like Bey did kinda sorta change her life — nah? Ngozi Adichie takes her comments a step further to differentiate how her brand of feminism is MUCH different than Beyoncé’s: ‘Her style is not my style, but I do find it interesting that she takes a stand in political and social issues, since a few years. She portrays a woman who is in charge of her own destiny, who does her own thing, and she has girl power. I am very taken with that.’ ‘Still, her type of feminism is not mine, as it is the kind that, at the same time, gives quite a lot of space to the necessity of men. I think men are lovely, but I don’t think that women should relate everything they do to men: did he hurt me, do I forgive him, did he put a ring on my finger? We women are so conditioned to relate everything to men. Put a group of women together and the conversation will eventually be about men. Put a group of men together and they will not talk about women at all, they will just talk about their own stuff. We women should spend about 20 per cent of our time on men, because it’s fun, but otherwise we should also be talking about our own stuff.’ Ngozi Adichie actually seems to have a lot of nice things to say about Beyoncé we just wonder how the Beehive will receive some of the less positive things. Poor Rob Kardashian … the guy really does not seem to be doing that great lately. His behavior is getting increasingly bizarre. Who could forget how he tweeted out Kylie Jenner’s phone number after a simple misunderstanding over some baby showers? And his admission that, as a child, he had a crush on Kim , his own sister, which is something we’ll have nightmares about for the rest of our lives, honestly. And of course there are his many, many (many, many, MANY) issues with Blac Chyna. Despite liking her enough to get her pregnant and propose to her within approximately five seconds of dating, he seems to have a problem with talking to other women behind her back. Though some of that talking might have been when he and Chyna weren’t together, because there have been several reports saying that they’d broken up, at least for a little while. And then, and this one is by far the saddest development of all, Rob is said to be returning to his old ways. According to new reports, Rob has been gaining back the weight he lost when he got with Chyna, and he’s been retreating back into his house again. Yep, he’s becoming a regular old hermit once more. It turns out that, even though Rob’s new show, Rob & Chyna, has gotten very popular, the show may only get one season. TMZ reports that a second season of the show has still yet to be ordered, which is pretty much unheard of for Kardashian reality shows. Ratings obviously aren’t the issue, but the fact that Rob and Chyna won’t film together is. Executives are reportedly concerned that they’d have a hard time filming Rob & Chyna when Rob is holed up alone in his house. The good news is that Chyna is such a firecracker that she could possibly get her own show on E!, and think about it: you know that would be amazing. But the bad news is that if Rob doesn’t pull it together, there’d likely be no televised documentation of the birth of their child or their wedding. It would also mean that a wedding isn’t all that likely anymore, but let’s save that sadness for another day. Here’s hoping that Chyna can find a way to get through to Rob again, and that they can salvage their relationship before their baby is born. Remember how, just a few short weeks ago, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were one of the most glamorous celebrity couples in existence, proof that true love was real? Man, how quickly things can change … These days, just one quick glance at the internet will tell you just how far Brangelina has fallen. Brad is currently being investigated after an alleged incident of child abuse on a plane, the same incident that was said to be the last straw for Angelina. As part of their temporary divorce settlement , he’s subject to random drug and alcohol testing, and he’s even supposed to have therapy sessions. There are plenty of rumors that Brad cheated on Angelina in the weeks before she filed for divorce, most notably with one of his costars, Marion Cotillard . As shocking as the whole thing is, it’s even more heartbreaking. And speaking of heartbreaking, there’s a new report that claims Brad and Angelina are fighting over one more thing: her engagement ring. The ring is said to be worth around $250,000, and Brad himself had a hand in designing it. “Angelina wants all of the jewelry that she acquired during her marriage to Brad,” a source says to HollywoodLife. And sure, that makes sense. “He gave her a lot of incredibly super expensive rings, necklaces, bracelets and other bobbles, but none more dazzling than her $250,000 engagement ring,” the source continues. “She def wants it.” But it seems that if Brad has anything to say about it, she def won’t get it. According to the source, “It’s tough because Brad put his heart and soul into that ring to make it truly unique and special. He worked with jeweler Robert Procop for over a year designing the most perfect ring imaginable.” Even though Brad is the one who put all the work into the ring, the source claims that he’d give it up if he could just have custody of the kids. See what we meant about the heartbreak? “Brad would give it up and anything else she wants,” the source says, “if he could just keep the kids. Even the thought of only partial custody breaks his heart, but he knows it’s all he can hope for.” The source delivers the final blow with “Brad really couldn’t give a sh-t about the money and fancy things, he just wants those kids.” That part, at least, is believable: we’ve heard time and time again that Brad is devastated by the divorce and that he wants to keep his family together. It’s a sad situation for all involved. Let’s hope they can at least work out the best arrangement for the whole family to be happy, or as happy as possible, given the circumstances. Mr. Grey will see you… in February 2017! The sequel to the hit movie is just months away and we could not be more excited. Sure, it was ludicrous in every sense of the imagination, but we must know what happens next. Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson will return as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, respectively. The movie will center on the continued relationship between Grey and Steele, but their relationship will take a darker turn. We’re not sure that was even possible, but we’ll for sure be watching the movie. The official poster is as elegant as you would imagine. Naturally, Grey is putting a masquerade ball mask on Steele. Should we have expected anything less? This is a movie about BDSM. She looks very happy to have it on and even poses for the camera. The teaser trailer for the new movie was also uploaded to Instagram. This comes one day before the official trailer is set to make its way on to the internet. Fans will no doubt be super happy with the teaser. Obviously, it doesn’t give much away. It’s more of a taster before the full trailer is released. The second and third movies were shot back-to-back and production is now complete, so he’s completed the work he was contracted. There is word that a fourth movie in the franchise could be made, but this would depend on whether E.L James was open to writing another novel in the series. There’s also a possibility that a movie version could be made from Christian’s perspective. It wouldn’t be all that interesting, but it would probably make some more money for the studio. The first movie was critically panned, but it managed to make $571 million at the worldwide box office. That’s hardly a number to sneeze at considering the production budget was $40 million. The movie could make a lot less this time round and still be considered a huge success. There is a chance that the negative reaction to the first movie could echo through to the sequel. That happen a lot with movies. If you release a turd, don’t expect the fans to return. Maybe a turd is a strong word to use, but the quality of the finished product did not live up to the huge hype. Dear Bossip , About 5 months ago I had a one night stand with one of my co-workers of four years. That night was something special for me because I secretly felt something for him since the day I started working for the company. We (the co-workers) all got drunk and he started flirting with me that night. I didn’t think twice about being with him that night, even though I had a boyfriend at that time. I sort of felt guilty afterwards because he is married and I am friends with his wife. She was always nice to me and they have a one year old daughter together. After that night, he was nice to me but somewhat distant. Two months went by and I found out I was pregnant. I told him and it came to him like a shock. First thing he said is that I should consider abortion because he can’t be there for me due to his work schedule. I talked to my family about it and they disagreed on terminating my pregnancy. They said they would help me out even though they are not financially stable. I told him that I would still continue my pregnancy and that he would need to provide for me. He said that he will help me out but that I will have to keep quiet about the situation. As the days went by he would come by the office and we would chat for a while. Then, there was this night that I asked him to take me out to eat. A month went by and I asked if he can come to the sonogram and he agreed. During these times he has never approached me sexually or tried to touch me, but I had my hopes that he would come through. I then told my boyfriend that I couldn’t be with him because I was pregnant with someone else’s child. He tried to convince me to stay and that he would take care of the baby, but I felt bad for doing that to him. I told this to my baby’s father and all of a sudden he got upset. He said that I shouldn’t be selfish and that I should give my boyfriend an opportunity to be a full-time husband and a paternal figure to my baby. We argued and he confessed that he was secretly wishing that night had never happened. He said that he never planned on leaving his wife and child and that he regrets everything. He also said that everything he has ever done was because he felt blackmailed and afraid that I would tell his wife. I became extremely upset and that night I drove to my cousin’s house. We decided to message his wife and tell her everything. I told her that her husband kept looking for me and that he has been lying for years. I didn’t feel bad telling her this because deep down inside me I wanted her to leave him. The next day he didn’t show up for work and apparently I learned that he asked for a schedule change (so we are working different hours). I tried calling him but he won’t answer his phone. This has been two weeks now and I feel terribly lonely. One of my co-workers today told me that next week is his final week and he is quitting the job. My question is should I go after him? I was hoping his anger would diminish and he would call me, but I haven’t heard anything from him since that day with his wife. I don’t want to go through a second pregnancy alone again and I am really hoping that he would come around. Are you serious? You haven’t heard from him ever since you confronted and told his wife about you and he, and you are expecting him to come running to you with open arms? Ma’am, something is seriously wrong with you. No! Don’t go after him. No! Don’t wait for him to call because he isn’t. No! Don’t go see him before he leaves the job. He obviously doesn’t want anything to do with you, or to see you because he changed his work schedule, and he is quitting his job and didn’t tell you. Therefore, he is avoiding you. He is and has gotten rid of you. Running after him is not going to change anything. He is gone, been gone, and is going to stay gone. I truly feel that this was a set-up by you from the very beginning. I feel that you had plotted and planned all of this. You even admit that you were vying for him, and secretly wanting him since the day you started working for the company. Therefore, you were waiting your moment and opportunity. And, it happened when you and some co-workers were out drinking and he flirted, and you knew that was your moment. What’s sad is that both of you were wrong, as he is married, and you were in a relationship. You’re both disgusting, and trifling. And, of course, lo and behold, you become pregnant after this one-night stand, and you want him to leave his wife and life to be with you. Instead of being rational and thinking clearly about the situation, you made this all about what you want – and deep down inside you want him. You kept this baby as a pawn to keep this man in your life. You are using the baby as a way to manipulate and maneuver yourself as his woman. Welp, that didn’t work, and it won’t work. What’s sad is that you cheated on your boyfriend, and despite you being pregnant with another man’s child he was willing to stick by your side and care for the child. He was willing to step in and be part of the child’s life. You dumped him, and told him that you didn’t want to be with him because you felt bad for what you did. Ma’am, you didn’t feel bad for what you did. If you felt bad then you wouldn’t have cheated in the beginning. You don’t feel bad because why would you end a relationship with a good man who is willing to be there for you and your child, a man who is willing to step in as a parental figure? Your goal and aim was to be with your co-worker, and to get him to leave his wife to be with you. That is what you wanted and what you are after. Then, on top of this, you claim that you and his wife are friends, and that she was and has always been nice to you. Therefore, you betrayed her, and you betrayed your friendship with his wife. You were smiling in her face while plotting on ways to sleep with her husband. You were only being nice and friendly with her because you wanted her to think you two were close and that she could trust you around her husband. SMDH! You are vicious and devious. You are conniving, and spiteful. The only thing you can do now is to put him on child support. He doesn’t want to be a part of your and his child’s life. Girl, he told you that he never planned on leaving his wife and child and that he regrets everything. He also told you that everything he ever did was because he felt blackmailed and that he was afraid you would tell his wife. He was never into you, never cared about you, never loved you, and, hell, he didn’t even like you. The both of you were drunk, and horny and he took advantage of the situation and moment, just like you did. You can’t make him, force him, or beg him to be with you, want you, or to do something he doesn’t want to do. HE DOESN’T WANT YOU! What is truly sad is that you said this is your second pregnancy that you are experiencing alone. This will be another child you have and no man is involved. Ma’am, why do these men keep walking out of your life, and what is going on that you are choosing men who are not available? Why would you sleep with a married man and expect for him to leave his wife for you? Why are you sleeping with co-workers? Why would you allow the influence of alcohol, or use alcohol as an excuse to do what you did? You are a grown woman acting like a child. You are not responsible, or have any control. You are out of control. You have unrealistic ideas of relationships, and of men. You choose men who are not available. You don’t think things through clearly, therefore, you lack rational thinking skills. You are petty and childish because you would text his wife, the woman you claim is your friend, and tell her what you did because he won’t give you what you want. Please grow up. Please get into some therapy, and counseling. Please learn how to make adult choices and decisions. Think about your children and how this will affect them as they grow older. You have a lot of growing and maturing to do.
