Comic-Con 2010 Preview: ‘Green Lantern,’ ‘Harry Potter’ And More

Seth Rogen, Bruce Willis, casts of ‘Thor’ and ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ expected to give talks and sneak peeks. By Eric Ditzian Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I” Photo: Warner Bros. Fluff the fur on your Wookiee costume. Put the final touches on that homemade Wonder Woman outfit and make sure your Batman suit isn’t that embarrassing one with the nipples on it. That mecca of pop-culture geekery known as San Diego Comic-Con is once again upon us. The festival kicks off with a preview on Wednesday evening (July 21), followed by four-straight days of sneak-peek looks at celebs, movies, comics, games and much more. MTV News will be right in the thick of the madness, bringing you daily live-streams from the Con. Get ready for heady chats with Seth Rogen (“The Green Hornet”) and Robert Rodriguez (“Machete”) on Thursday; the casts of “Tron: Legacy” and “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” on Friday; and lots of surprise appearances on Saturday. Of course, we’ll also be bringing you fresh scoops from the convention — the latest news on some of the most anticipated Hollywood films. Here are some of the movies we can’t wait to check out: “Green Lantern”: Saturday at 11:45 a.m. PT Saturday marks the kickoff of Warner Bros.’ blockbuster presentation in Hall H, and there’s little doubt “Green Lantern,” based on the DC Comics property, is the studio’s most eagerly awaited flick. Coming on the heels of a first look at Ryan Reynolds as the titular superhero , fans have been promised the first-ever glimpse at actual movie footage. There’s no official word that Reynolds will be in the house, but we’re going to go ahead and predict he’ll make an appearance. “Tron: Legacy”: Friday at 11:15 a.m. PT This sequel to the 1982 sci-fi classic has appeared at three straight Cons. After premiering test footage in ’08 and a more robust video in ’09, you can now expect Disney to deliver a hefty look at the new film, which arrives in theaters in December. Castmembers expected to attend include Jeff Bridges, Olivia Wilde, Garrett Hedlund and Michael Sheen, as well as director Joseph Kosinski. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”: Saturday at 11:45 a.m. PT Anything having to do with the boy wizard shoots immediately to the top of many Con-goers’ wish-lists. This year, Warner Bros. will debut fresh “Deathly Hallows” footage, as the studio pushes toward opening the first part of this series’ finale in December. No castmembers have been announced, but there’s always a chance someone from Hogwarts might stop by to greet fans. “Thor” & “Captain America: The First Avenger” Saturday at 6 p.m. PT We’ve been checking out concept art and photos for both these Marvel adaptations, but who knows what we’ll get at the Con? “Thor” has been shooting since early this year, while “Captain America” just began production last month. Will we get footage from either flick? Let’s wait and see. We do hear “Thor” stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings will be at the Con, and we’re also hoping to see Captain America himself, Chris Evans, drop in on the festivities. “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”: Thursday at 6 p.m. PT In the midst of the Marvel and DC behemoth is “Scott Pilgrim,” a graphic novel series that started out as an indie hit and has now graduated to the mainstream. Clips and trailers have been lighting up on the Web for months, so who knows how they’ll step it up for Con fans. We expect, somehow, they will. Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Brandon Routh and Jason Schwartzman will be on hand, as well as director Edgar Wright and series author Bryan Lee O’Malley. MTV News and MySpace are live at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con! From Seth Rogen and Michael Cera to Anna Kendrick and Bruce Willis, we’re talking to some of the world’s biggest stars during three daily live streams. So tune in to MTV.com at 3 p.m. ET/ noon PT on Thursday and Friday, and 6 p.m. ET/ 3 p.m. PT on Saturday to watch the fun unfold. Some World Cup Goalie’s Chick of the Day

I just woke up – but here is some proof that World Cup Soccer players aren’t all gay, in fact they get all the euro pussy, cuz soccer in Europe is bigger than God and all the girls dream about marrying a soccer player when they grow up, especially this Sara Carbonero pasta dish sounding pussy, who is actually a Sports reporter in Spain, or what I call strategic positioning to get the star player of the World Cup to show off to her married and less accomplished friends. Justin Bieber Charms L.A. Ladies, From Toddlers To Grandmas

The My World Tour brought Bieber fever to the Nokia Theatre Tuesday night. By Kelley L. Carter Justin Bieber performs in Los Angeles on Tuesday Photo: Robyn Beck/ AFP/ Getty Images LOS ANGELES — The countdown started early in the night for Justin Bieber’s sold-out show at the Nokia Theatre on Tuesday night. Bieber’s young fans screamed and waved multicolored glow sticks in the air, while their parents stuffed cotton balls in their ears, sipped on wine or text messaged, seemingly oblivious to the growing anticipation by their children. When the two large screens on either side of the stage clicked on and announced that it was almost showtime, the decibel level was off the charts. Fans pulled out their cell phones and began taking silly shots of each other, waving their hands in the air, and at times, singing their favorite Bieber songs in unison. When the 16-year-old finally took the stage shortly before 9 p.m., he dropped down from the ceiling in an egg-shaped apparatus. Neon green lasers shot from the stage, and his face popped up on the screens. Bieber spent the next hour rolling through a number of hits — including “Baby,” “One Time,” “Love Me,” “Favorite Girl” and “One Less Lonely Girl” — all tracks that helped to make the Canadian heartthrob a household name. Bieber also sang a little medley of classic hits, including “Wanna Be Starting Something” by Michael Jackson and “Walk This Way” by Aerosmith and Run-DMC. “I’m so glad everyone could make it tonight. I have the best fans in the world,” Bieber said. “I would do anything to make you smile.” Again, the kids screamed, rightly knowing that he would launch into his track, “U Smile.” Bieber made several costume changes, but he always kept a New York Yankees baseball cap on his head, grabbing it while dancing in front of and next to his backup dancers. The contraption that he first dropped down in changed shapes, at one point it turning into a heart that he boarded. It took Bieber into in the air, as he strummed his guitar and smiled down lovingly at his mostly female concert. “I see a lot of beautiful girls in the audience. You know what? I think I need to get a little closer to you,” he said. And as if on cue, fans as young as 3-years-old and those old enough to be their grandparents cried and flailed their hands about, hoping to get closer to him. Have you seen Justin Bieber in concert? Eminem, Rihanna Top New Ultimate Chart

‘Love the Way You Lie’ is #1 on BigChampagne’s chart, which factors Internet popularity into its rankings. By Kyle Anderson Eminem Photo: Robyn Beck/ AFP/ Getty Images For half a century, the Billboard Hot 100 has been thought to be the most accurate bellwether of what the biggest songs are. Every week, it takes into account radio airplay and singles sales, puts those numbers into a complicated formula and determines which tracks are becoming ubiquitous and which ones are falling off. But in the modern era, a song’s airplay and sales numbers don’t necessarily tell the whole story, as songs are streamed on YouTube, watched on MTV, posted to Facebook, downloaded through countless blogs and searched for on Google. With that in mind, BigChampagne — an organization that has spent years tracking music on the Internet — has come up with the Ultimate Chart , a listing that synthesizes the statistics from all the various places you can hear music and determines which songs are truly the biggest in the virtual world. The chart itself is the result of hard statistics and human analysis. “The Ultimate Chart is a chart for the 21st century, based on a scalable technology platform developed over more than ten years,” reads the introduction on the site. “We collect billions of points of data, online and off. Our machines are very clever but our analysts are too. Real people grade the computers’ work to ensure accuracy. We collect more relevant information from more sources than anyone ever has, by our count.” The big winners on the new chart include Eminem and Rihanna , whose “Love the Way You Lie” (from Eminem’s Recovery ) is listed as the #1 song, just ahead of Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” (which has had a stranglehold on the Billboard chart for more than a month). Shakira also fares extremely well, as her “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” comes in at #3. That track is an excellent example of how a song can transcend the normal parameters of the other chart, because while the radio airplay for Shakira’s tune wasn’t great, it was still streamed online and searched for around the world due to its connection to the World Cup. A lot of the usual suspects are still represented on the Ultimate Chart. For example, Justin Bieber rules just as he does on the Hot 100, though his highest-charting tune on the Ultimate Chart remains “Baby,” even though “Somebody to Love” is finishing higher on the Billboard version. It wouldn’t be shocking if “Baby” earned that spot due to the surge in YouTube views of the video. Bieber’s YouTube rival Lady Gaga is also well represented on the Ultimate Chart, with three songs (“Alejandro,” “Bad Romance” and “Telephone”) all in the top 20. The Ultimate Chart also tracks the most ubiquitous artists based on airplay, streams, searches and social-network followers and friends. Eminem tops that chart as well, followed by Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Shakira and Drake, which is a deadly accurate assessment of the pop music landscape. What do you think of the Ultimate Chart? Do you agree with its results? Let us know in the comments! Related Photos The Evolution Of: Eminem Related Artists Eminem Rihanna
