Kendrick Lamar Says His Friendship With Dr. Dre Is ‘A Blessing’

‘He sees a good kid in a bad city the same way he grew up,’ Lamar tells MTV News of his bond with Dre. By Rob Markman Kendrick Lamar Photo: MTV News Any rapper who says that they don’t want a beat from Dr. Dre either has to be lying or crazy, right? Well, New West Coast representative Kendrick Lamar is neither. Though he is currently working on his upcoming indie album, Section 80, Lamar has also been contributing to Dre’s long-awaited Detox LP. Now, K.Dot has confirmed to MTV News that Dre has been overseeing Section 80, although the rap icon hasn’t contributed any beats to it. “I didn’t want no work yet. That’s the crazy part — I didn’t. I wanted to go full just me — me and my team. I wanted to save that [Dre collaboration] for something bigger,” Lamar explained before revealing his vision. “Bigger would be Detox. My first, me and Dre, I want them to hear it on Detox. ” It’s no secret that the Good Doctor has taken a liking to Lamar: He’s endorsed the young rapper in radio interviews, appeared at his shows and posed for pictures with the Compton upstart. As of yet, though, Kendrick and Dre have had no formal business dealings — just a good personal relationship. “As far as the music, we got a chemistry that’s unmatched to me. Alongside with the music, we just talk about stuff, just talk about life in general,” Lamar told MTV News. “I think that’s why we clash together so perfect, because he sees a good kid in a bad city the same way he grew up. So we can talk about certain situations that he never talked about. I think right there alone, it’s a blessing to me — for a personal relationship with him, not just the music.” Still, with all the music making and personal bonding, surely the notion of Kendrick signing to Dre’s Interscope-distributed Aftermath label has had to come up. Lamar wouldn’t go into detail — instead, he just smirked and remarked, “It’s been in the air.” K.Dot, who is signed to West Coast independent label Top Dawg Entertainment, may not know which major he will be calling home or if he will even sign to one, but he is pretty confident about one thing — he will have a guest spot on Dre’s Detox, whenever it may come out. And, whereas powerhouse artists like 50 Cent have admitted to recording for the album but couldn’t say for certain whether they’d make the final track list, young Kendrick has no doubt. “Nah, I’m confirmed a few times,” he said. Just because it is GDP accretive. Actually, on second though, if the Princeton Economics Department is right, all those tornados crisscrossing the US over the past month should add at least 0.5% to Q2 GDP. Which, gasp, means that JPM’s just lowered GDP forecast is really 1.5%. And it is supposed to double by the end of the year to 3.0%. On… what again? Pearl Jam Say ‘Twenty’ Documentary Shows ‘Highs, Lows’

Cameron Crowe-directed retrospective set to premiere in September. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Sasha Hamrogue Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder Photo: Michel Linssen/ Redferns On October 22, 1990, Mookie Blaylock played their first official show at the Off Ramp Cafe in Seattle. Rock historians would come to imbue this event with understandable import: After all, Mookie Blaylock would go on to become Pearl Jam, one of the most important rock outfits of the past two decades. And now, with the 20th anniversary of that debut show on the horizon, the members of Pearl Jam are looking back for the first time in their careers — and they still can’t believe they’ve made it this far. Luckily, they’ve got Cameron Crowe to help them remember their journey from Seattle mid-carders to one of the biggest acts on the planet. He’s directed a documentary called, appropriately enough, “Pearl Jam Twenty,” that culls through more than 1,200 hours of rare footage — plus 24 hours of recently shot interviews — to provide a definitive look at the band’s legendary career. The film is reportedly set to premiere in September — though, on Monday, PBS announced it would broadcast it in October as part of its “American Masters” series — meaning that, at long last, guitarist Mike McCready, one of Pearl Jam’s founding members, is being forced to come to terms with his band’s own mortality. “Yeah, it all went very quickly,” he said, laughing. “There were many highs and lows throughout our career, and many arcs of creativity [and] tragedies … that run the whole gamut of human emotions, being in this. From being in a band with guys for 20 years, and having fights and making up, and being brothers in a way, looking out for each other.” And part of what appeals to McCready about Crowe’s film is that it somehow manages to tie all of those things together into one cohesive and comprehensive work — one that had even the longtime guitarist getting a bit nostalgic. “When I saw the early … edits of it, I thought it was very interesting and kind of exciting and, like I said, it runs the gamut of all those emotions,” he explained. “And it actually put in some sort of musical perspective the past 20 years, like, ‘Oh yeah, we did do that, we did do this’: the Ticketmaster thing , there was Roskilde , there were all these issues, and there were these great highs and interesting beginnings. The story it tells is: Why did it work, and why does it still? It made more sense when I saw the movie.” But “Twenty” isn’t the only thing Pearl Jam have in store for fans to commemorate the occasion: They’ve also announced plans for a Labor Day weekend concert alongside the likes of the Strokes, Queens of the Stone Age and Mudhoney, and, as McCready hinted, there might even be some new music on the way. Or maybe not. After all, all this nostalgia takes up a lot of time. “Jeff [Ament] and Ed [Vedder] were really wanting to do more music in the terms of, ‘It’s our 20th anniversary. Let’s celebrate that, but let’s also do some new music,’ and we’re all into that,” McCready said. “So, you may see some new music, you may not. I know we’re going to record some new music this year; it may not be finished by the end of the year.” Are you excited to see the Pearl Jam documentary? Tell us below! Related Artists Pearl Jam

5 Tips To Building A Great Relationship With Your Child’s School

Read more here:

Education budgets have been slashed. Teachers are overburdened and underpaid. Now more than ever, parents need to offer a helping hand. According to a 2000 U .S. Department of Education Schools and Staffing Survey, 91 percent of teachers say lack of parent involvement is a problem in schools. Here are a variety of ways to get involved in your kid’s education and foster success in the classroom—whether you’re a stay-at-home mom with daytime hours to give, or a working parent with only evening hours to offer. 1- Become visible. As teacher I cannot tell you how many teacher parent conferences I have spent in my classroom alone. I just sit waiting for a parent to walk through the door. It isn’t because we haven’t told you. It was on the calendar at the beginning of the school year. We have called. We have sent letters home with the child and mailed them  postal mail.  So “show up”!Make time for parent/teacher conferences and go to awards ceremonies, concerts, carnivals, science fairs, book fairs, and curriculum nights. The older your child is, the more important it is for you to be there. Often parents back off when children enter middle or high school. Attending these events may be the only way you can plug in at these levels. 2- Communicate- We live in the world of technology. A simple email to reach out and find out how your child is doing is helpful. It also allows for a method of trouble shooting and weakness in your child’s work. I have no enjoyment in failing a student. I write my email in the front of your child notebook. I provide my cell as well. Most teachers do that as well. Homework now lives on a centralized web page for your child. Take a moment and look at the class page. You may be inspired by what you see. 3- Make yourself accessible. Even if you work outside the home, give your children’s teachers your direct contact information.  I cannot tell you how many times a phone number supplied at the beginning of the year reaches an out of service line. It’s frustrating. If you’re at home but find yourself away often, give teachers your cell phone number. When teachers know you’re available, they’ll include you in much of what goes on at school.. The more you know, the better equipped you’ll be to help your children succeed. 4- Understand what is going on at school. Too often we go into school with an agenda based on our convenience. Set aside your preferences and ask yourself: How can I best support my children this year? and How can I best support their teachers? For some, working at the school isn’t feasible. But the time you spend talking to your kids about what they do in school and how they feel about it is just as important. Ask your children to set some goals for their school year. Offer whatever support they need to reach those goals. Then ask their teachers, “How can I best help this year?”  Do not assume that the whole truth has been told in a situation. I cannot count the times I had an angry parent suddenly appear because they felt their child was harmed. After the yelling ceased and I pointed out the real crux of the matter there was a new approach. 5- Stay aware . At times, we’ve missed deadlines or a overlooked piece of homework or two, can cause problems! I say “we” because as the grown-up, you need to supervise the contents of your child’s backpack It is in the sudden changes in your child that you spot the ship going off course. Stay aware. Remember the Titanic wasn’t sunk by one big gash but by numerous small gashes Remember that teachers cannot do it all alone. We need your support as a parent to work in partnership with us. Snooki And JWoww Reveal ‘Jersey Shore’ Spin-Off Details

‘We legitimately just wanted to buy a house together,’ JWoww says of planning to be roomies before they got their own show. By Christina Garibaldi JWoww and Snooki Photo: MTV News On Thursday (April 7), MTV announced that we will be seeing a lot more of Snooki, JWoww and Pauly D. The three “Jersey Shore” castmembers will be featured in two untitled reality projects set to debut on MTV in 2012. “The ‘Jersey Shore’ cast is at the center of the show’s ongoing success, and Nicole, Pauly D and Jenni have become household names as a result of their unique, sometimes outrageous and often hilarious personalities,” said Chris Linn, MTV executive vice president of programming and head of production. The inseparable dynamic duo of Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and best friend Jenni “JWoww” Farley will give viewers a look at what life, love and friendship is like away from Seaside Heights. “It’s pretty much just the concept of me and Jenni being on our own without our roommates,” Snooki told MTV News recently. The two best friends will be living in a yet-announced location, but it seems the girls planned to be roommates even if the cameras weren’t rolling. “It was a concept before the show [was green-lit]. We legitimately just wanted to buy a house together,” JWoww revealed. “She wanted to get out of her dad’s, and I wanted to move out of the home that everyone could see on TV, so they were like, ‘Let’s shoot it!’ ” JWoww and Snooki will share the spotlight with fellow castmember DJ Pauly D. The cameras will follow him (and his blowout) as he continues to pursue his dream of becoming one of the most successful and recognized DJs in the music business. “I used to be this DJ in Rhode Island, DJing two sets a week, hustling, promoting,” he explained to MTV News earlier this year, “and all of a sudden, I’m on this show, and now they’re sending private jets for me to DJ for these huge crowds, yet I’m still the same guy that was DJing for 200 people, just loving life.” Both untitled series will be 12 episodes, and production begins later this year.
