Jesus Take The Wheel: Illinois Mother, Toddler And Pre-Teen Son Shot Before Killer Set Their House On Fire

This is so sad. Another young mother and her children have been killed. This time in Rockford, Ill: An adult and two children found dead inside a burning northwest-side home Sunday were fatally shot before the fire. The autopsies, performed today by the Winnebago County coroner’s office, confirmed Rockford police detectives’ and fire inspectors’ suspicions. “It appears the fire was started to cover up the homicides,” Deputy Chief Greg Lindmark said. Firefighters responded at 4:30 a.m. Sunday to 2708 Canterbury Lane for a residential structure fire. They extinguished the blaze and found a body inside the residence. Further investigation by the Rockford fire and police departments turned up the children’s bodies. How the beige ranch home caught fire has yet to be determined. “We’re utilizing the state crime lab, the state fire marshal, Rockford fire investigators and Rockford police detectives,” Lindmark said. While the coroner’s office is still in the process of identifying the victims through dental records, several dozen family members, co-workers and classmates stopped at the corner residence throughout the day today. They signed their names on a poster-size sympathy card hung outside the home on a chain-link fence and placed candles, stuffed animals and three makeshift crosses each bearing the name of a family member. The family and friends identified the victims as Tasha Cleary, a 12-year-son nicknamed “Mook” and a 2-year-son named Tarri. Danielle Streit and Kelly Blackwell said Cleary was their co-worker at Vision Financial, a Rockford collection agency. “She had incredible wit,” Blackwell said. “She was very funny, and she would (do anything) for those kids.” Streit added, “She was my hairdresser. She was good person. It’s just a senseless crime.” Cleary’s landlord, Lois Sallinger, said the family had rented the Canterbury Lane home since Feb. 1, 2010. Cleary planned to move at the end of the month into a home of her own. “She wanted to have her own salon in the basement to do hair,” Streit said. Neighbor Heidi Russell, 28, watched firefighters return to the scene this afternoon, venture past the yellow crime scene tape, and tote charred articles out of the house in large gray metal pails. Also a mother of two children, Russell said she hugged her 7-year-old daughter, Tessah, and 2-year-old son, Gabin, a little bit tighter than normal Sunday after learning of the deaths. “It’s really hard for me to see something like that,” she said. “Those kids didn’t even have a chance.” This sounds like it might have been personal. What kind of heartless a**hole can shoot a kid, much less a 2-year-old? R.I.P. Tasha, Tarri & Mook! Source

Christina Perri Says Her ‘Life Changed’ After ‘Jar Of Hearts’

Singer is on tour with James Blunt after her song aired on an episode of ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’ By Jocelyn Vena Christina Perri Photo: MTV News Christina Perri is currently on the road with a man who, much like her, found fame after penning a track about love and heartbreak. Perri is touring with the “sweetest dude on the planet,” James Blunt, and when she first found out about the gig, she had a feeling their fans would find common ground, a theory that has now been proved true. “I was very excited. I knew the venues were going to be awesome, small little intimate theaters,” Perri told MTV News. “And then, to be there [at tour kickoff on Wednesday], and see that our audiences are the same because so many people knew the words to my song [‘Jar of Hearts’] that knew the words to his songs, I mean, that tells you right there, so it was a really great pairing,” she said. “And I’m so excited now.” But a year ago, a major tour like this one was the farthest thing from Perri’s mind — until one fateful night. Last summer, Perri went from small-town girl to Top 40 radio mainstay, with the success of her single “Jar of Hearts.” And though a quick rise to fame is often described as happening “overnight,” Perri truly is an overnight sensation. “When my song was on the TV show ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ my life changed that night, like, it was very fast,” she recalled. “It’s 2011, and that was last year [and] with the Internet everything [it’s all very] ‘right now.’ So when the song aired on the show, by midnight, I never had to go back to waitressing again. “I just existed; I didn’t exist— and then I did,” she explained of the feeling. “I flew to New York City, I signed a record deal like, boom, boom, boom, boom,” she continued. “And it hasn’t stopped, which is a good thing, and I’m trying to stay grounded and focus and keep doing what I’m doing every day, but it’s been this magical thing where, like, I don’t have to wake up and cover my tattoos and be a waitress. All the hard work … ended up really working out. I’m grateful.” Perri will release her debut album, Lovestrong, on May 10. Are you a Christina Perri fan? Tell us in the comments! E. Dan Talks Building Wiz Khalifa’s Sound ‘From Scratch’

Rolling Papers producer tells Mixtape Daily they found ‘natural rhythm.’ By Rob Markman Wiz Khalifa Photo: Raymond Boyd/ Michael Ochs Archives/ Getty Images Mixtape Daily: Behind the Beats Fans might not know Pittsburgh producer Eric Dan (E. Dan for short), but they sure as heck know his work. After crafting six out of 14 tracks on Wiz Khalifa’s debut album, Rolling Papers , it shouldn’t be long before hip-hop heads start catching on. In 2003, Dan opened his own studio, ID Labs, outside of Pittsburgh. When a young Wiz Khalifa strolled in looking to record, the producer took the Taylor Gang general under his wing and has been working him every step of the way. “It’s been a great thing for [ID Labs] to be involved with an artist almost from his inception to where he is now,” E. Dan said. Where Wiz is now is at the top of the charts. It was the rapper’s #1 single “Black and Yellow” that spearheaded the Khalifa craze, helping Rolling Papers sell just under 300,000 copies since its March 29 release, but it was songs like the E. Dan-produced “The Race” and “When I’m Gone” that provided the LP with its substance. “With this album, we wanted to go in together from scratch,” said Dan, who splits production duties with his partner, Big Jerm. According to Dan, the bulk of the tracks on Rolling Papers came together organically, thanks to the comfortable relationship Dan and Wiz had been building for years. “Working with somebody from that young and working with him for so long, you fall into a natural rhythm, and over time you end up building this sound together,” Dan said. The recording session for Wiz’s “The Race” sticks out in E. Dan’s mind as an example of their overall organic chemistry. “Wiz fell asleep,” the producer recalled. “We put [the beat] together; a couple of hours later, Wiz woke up and said, ‘Whoa — that’s it!’ Next thing we knew, he jumped in the booth and did the song.” From there followed “Star of the Show,” “Get Your Sh–,” “Fly Solo,” “Cameras” and the intro, “When I’m Gone.” Dan has already worked with Pittsburgh breakouts Mac Miller and Chevy Woods, but said he is excited about branching out and adding to his resume. With upcoming production for international rap star K’Naan, it shouldn’t be long before the Pittsburgh producer is a worldwide name. For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out . Wiz Khalifa Announces Summer Tour Dates

Wiz will hit U.S. cities with Big Sean and Chevy Woods. By Alvin Blanco Wiz Khalifa Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images With his new album, Rolling Papers, moving almost 200,000 units its first week in stores and landing at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart, Wiz Khalifa has certified his position as one of hip-hop’s rising stars. Capitalizing on this success, the Pittsburgh rapper is embarking on the Rolling Papers World Tour , and riding shotgun will be G.O.O.D. Music rapper Big Sean. The “Black and Yellow” MC’s tour kicks off at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Maryland Heights, Missouri, on June 12. Despite its billing as a world tour, Wiz will only be hitting cities in the continental United States, including Las Vegas, New Orleans and Boston, for the 27-date tour before its final stop in Canandaigua, New York, on August 3. Another featured artist on the bill is rapper Chevy Woods. Also a Pittsburgh native, he is a member of Wiz’s Taylor Gang crew. Wiz kept the collaborations on his major-label debut to a minimum, but Chevy managed to appear on “Star of the Show.” Big Sean is a Kanye West disciple and his debut LP, Finally Famous: The Album, recently had its release date pushed back to June 21. Tickets for the tour go on sale to the general public on April 20. The date, an unofficial marijuana holiday known as Weed Day, is appropriate considering Wiz’s love of all things marijuana. Members of the official Taylor Gang Fan Club will have the opportunity to purchase tickets on Thursday, April 14. Dates and venues for Wiz Khalifa’s tour are as follows:

Wiz Khalifa Explains Why Rolling Papers Has Few Collabos

‘I figured with my first album I could accomplish establishing my own identity,’ Wiz tells MTV News. By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Steven Roberts Wiz Khalifa Photo: MTV News Wiz Khalifa is riding high. The Pittsburgh rapper’s debut, Rolling Papers, sold 197,000 copies in its first week of release, enough to land the album at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart. For Wiz, the success is made sweeter because although the album’s biggest hit so far is the Stargate-produced “Black and Yellow,” nearly half of the production on the record was provided by longtime Khalifa producers and collaborators I.D. Labs. “Other than making sure that my people that I came up with get filthy rich, I wanted to keep the sound consistent,” Wiz told MTV News about using his in-house team of beatmakers. “I wanted to really stick with what I know and build on that, other than getting in the position and completely switching. Take it to the next level was more what I had in mind.” Another familiar industry name made the album in spite of the fact that he, too, wasn’t in Wiz’s immediate circle. “We decided to add Too Short on ‘On My Level’ when we were deciding to do the video,” Wiz said of the first song he recorded for the album. “I wanted to do something bigger than just doing a video with me ’cause people were used to that at that time. So I was like, ‘Let’s just use our powers and holla at Too Short.’ “I’ve always been a big fan, ya know,” Wiz explained. “So when we did it, he knocked it straight out, which was a big deal for me. And then he was with getting in the video; that was really big for me too.” The only other featured rappers on Rolling Papers are Taylor Gang member Chevy Woods on “Star of the Show” and New Orleans MC Curren$y on “Rooftops.” Despite major co-signs from star MCs like Rick Ross and Snoop Dogg, Wiz made a conscious decision to keep the album’s guest list to a minimum. “I trimmed it down and I just kept it regular because I wanted to save that suspense of me working with these other artists and making these huge records,” Wiz said. “I wanted to save that. I figured with my first album I could accomplish establishing my own identity and that’s what I really wanted to do with this music and when that happens, I can do all that other stuff.” What’s your favorite Wiz collabo on Rolling Papers ? Mary J. Blige Announces My Life Sequel Release Date

Follow-up to MJB’s seminal disc, My Life II, The Story Continues, is set to drop September 20. By Alvin Blanco Mary J. Blige Photo: Brian Ach/ WireImage Fans can mark September 20 as the day that Mary J. Blige returns with her 11th album, My Life II, The Story Continues. By the time of the album’s release — a sequel to Blige’s triple-platinum My Life album — it will be almost two years since the Queen of Hip-Hop/R&B delivered her last project, Stronger With Each Tear. “From me to you, My Life II … our journey together continues in this life,” Blige said in a statement. “It’s a gift to be able to relate and identify with my fans at all times. This album is a reflection of the times and lives of people all around me.” Blige’s sophisticated and sample-driven My Life was released in 1994, and was executive-produced by Sean “Diddy” Combs, who was then going by Puff Daddy. And it’s probably no coincidence that Diddy is featured on the sequel’s lead single, “Someone to Love Me (Naked),” which also features a verse from Lil Wayne. The single’s groove is courtesy of Wyclef Jean’s cousin, the accomplished producer Jerry “Wonder” Duplessis. Other notable producers set to contribute to Blige’s forthcoming album include Kanye West, Stargate (Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow”) and Swizz Beatz. The original version of “Someone to Love Me” appeared on Diddy-Dirty Money’s Last Train to Paris. The version with Blige on it dropped at the top of the year and, at the time, it was thought to be just a remix. But a mastered version is available now on iTunes and although Blige tweeted that the Collin Tilley-directed video would debut April 8, the clip began making the Internet rounds on Monday. Blige has also been cast in the big-screen adaptation of the Broadway musical “Rock of Ages,” which is set to star Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin and Diego Boneta. Related Artists Mary J. Blige

True Or False: Wiz Khalifa Is Ready To Live In Matrimony-Dom With The Balheaded Beast

That’s the word on the street. Sources are reporting that ‘Black and Yellow’ rapper Wiz Khalifa has proposed to the model (and Kanye West ex) and that the two plan to marry this summer. The rapper recently told MTV News that he had introduced Rose to his mother, with whom she hit it off. “They actually really, really dig each other,” Khalifa said of the meeting. “Amber is a sweetheart, and my mom, everybody who meets her loves her anyway.” A source close to the couple says, “Wiz is going on tour for the next month. But he told her when he gets back, he’s going to marry her. And he was serious — he asked her to start making plans.” Khalifa hasn’t confirmed the proposal yet, although he has made his feelings for Rose clear: “She’s a great girl, she’s like one of the best girls in the world. I just want everybody to know how great she is.” Awww, how sweet! Amber Rose may break the record for winningest ho in history… depending on how Wiz’ career works out in the long run. Source

Wiz Khalifa Says Snoop Dogg Advises Him To ‘Boss Up’

Rapper opens up about ‘High School’ collaborator on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Wiz Khalifa Photo: Sohyung Kang / MTV News Snoop Dogg always walked his own path as a youngin’ in the game. And now that the veteran rapper has taken Wiz Khalifa under his wing, his advice to the upstart isn’t very different from his own mantra. According to the “Black and Yellow” star, Snoop told him to keep doing what he’s been doing. “He just always told me to stick to what I know, ’cause I know myself the best,” Wiz said during his appearance on MTV News’ “RapFix Live.” “And [he told me to] boss up in every opportunity that I get. Those are mainly the two key points that stick out. “Snoop is a big fan of what I do and, of course, he’s a legend to me and it’s just an honor for him to be talking about me, speaking so highly of me and sharing the same views. But as time went on and he got to see who Snoop was as a businessman and other avenues of life, then he really grew to respect him. I feel like, as long as I do me, like Dogg says, in time people will get it.” The two green-friendly rappers joined forces late last year for Wiz’s “Black and Yellow” remix and later announced they would be shooting a movie together called “High School.” “We decided to go ahead and say, ‘You know what? Let’s do a movie and a soundtrack and just become, you know, bosom buddies and do what we do ’cause we love what we do and we love each other and at the same time, we know what the people want,’ ” Snoop explained. “The people want to see the two generations come together where hip-hop ain’t about old school and new school. It’s just about good music and making good moves and putting something out there that’s classic where people can respect it and say, ‘Yeah, so now, this was some gangsta sh– that really made hip-hop gradually grow to another level.’ ” Are you looking forward to seeing Wiz and Snoop join forces for “High School”? ‘American Idol’ Preview: Can Jacob Lusk Keep It Up?

Casey Abrams will surely pull out all the stops after his near-elimination. By Eric Ditzian Jacob Lusk Photo: FOX Last week on “American Idol,” Jacob Lusk soared, while Casey Abrams collapsed , literally, falling into Ryan Seacrest’s arms as the judges exercised their only save of the season to prevent the bearded fellow from going home. Where does the show go from here? Will Lusk, who bounced back from a few dreadful performances to wow the crowd with Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s “You’re All I Need to Get By,” be able to keep it up during Wednesday’s (March 30) Elton John themed evening? Can Abrams buck up after almost chucking up his dinner, following his sing-for-survival take on Ray Charles’ “I Don’t Need No Doctor”? Those are just two of the questions we’re kicking around as we head into the show. Here’s what we’re hoping to see from each singer when “Idol” goes live. Casey Abrams At this point, there can hardly be any disputing that Abrams is this year’s Andrew Garcia, a guy whose musical stylings were revelatory at first but quickly revealed themselves as one-note. The problem right now for Casey is that he’s been all over the place in recent weeks — wannabe grunge kid here, slicked-back showman there. We don’t expect him to last much longer, but while he’s still there, Abrams should simply embrace who he truly is: a singer who over-relies on his growl and has a ton of fun up on the stage. A slowed-down take on “The Bitch Is Back” could be a nice fit. Haley Reinhart If you believe the tabloid press, Haley and Casey have coupled up behind the scenes. They might be able to spend a whole lot more time together soon. Her best bet to avoid a trip home is to cover a highly recognizable Elton tune and hope the public, merrily singing along, transfers some good will to Haley in the form of votes. Perhaps a husky, bluesy version of “Tiny Dancer” is in order. Jacob Lusk When Jacob sings, you feel it. Sometimes that makes it a terrifying experience, and sometimes it’s a moving one. With a new emphasis on restraining his impulse to over-sing and under-deliver, Lusk would be savvy to cover “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” and wait until the final notes to truly sing the hell out of the tune. James Durbin We continue to argue that Durbin is at his best when showing off his sensitive, genuine side, rather than pretending he’s some sort of rock star you’d best keep your sisters and daughters away from. We want the 22-year-old to keep his performance slow this week, which is why we’ll point him in the direction of “Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters.” Lauren Alaina We fear Lauren will go uptempo once again — she seems to enjoy strutting around the stage like a go-go dancer plopped into a country salon. But she’s at her best while belting over a spare arrangement. So we hope she avoids something like “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” and instead reaches for something special with a ballad like “Something About the Way You Look Tonight.” Naima Adedapo The 26-year-old has hung around an admirably long time, but Elton John week should present her a serious challenge. We think. Honestly, we’re never sure what Naima is going to give us week to week. While we’re unchanged in our view that she’d be best served by carving out an Adele-like niche for herself, Naima doesn’t seem intent on defining herself in any one way. So we won’t pick a specific song for her, just cross our fingers that she shows us something like she did during her audition take on Donny Hathaway, when we first tagged her as a contestant to watch. Paul McDonald Paul likes to boogie. There’s no way he’ll play guitar two weeks in a row and avoid those gyrations he calls dancing. But we can hope, right? How about we split the difference and have him hold onto the mic stand for dear life as he delivers a convulsive cover of “Bennie and the Jets”? Pia Toscano Wait, wait, wait — she’s totally going to do a ballad again, right? Even though the judges are nearly down on their knees begging Pia to bust out something with a pulse? Come on, you don’t think she’d actually do something like “Crocodile Rock”? Ha! The gal with the season’s biggest pipes isn’t going to stray from her comfort zone, if only because we’re not sure she’d be able to at this point. So it’s “Something About the Way You Look Tonight” for her. Scotty McCreery Speaking of comfort zones, Scotty ain’t going anywhere that’s not within spitting distance of a Travis Tritt song. We’re done expecting anything else. Listen to the lyrics of “Your Song” and it just feels like a country song. We have a feeling that’s where Scotty is headed on Wednesday. Stefano Langone Aside from Casey, who probably sustained some bruises (and possibly a heart attack), Stefano is the contestant who suffered most last week: He closed his eyes and butchered Lionel Richie’s “Hello.” This week, he’s got to sing an Elton song that drips with so much emotion even Stefano couldn’t fail to connect with some. lyrics As strange and potentially cheesy as it may be, “Candle in the Wind” — arranged in a vaguely contemporary manner — might be in order. Thia Megia Let’s agree to this: If Thia sings the “Circle of Life,” “American Idol” closes up shop forever. After the brutal reception of her “Pocahontas” tune earlier this month, she wouldn’t actually take on “The Lion King,” would she? Hey, the kid seems so mixed up these days, anything is possible. An uptempo number didn’t work for her last week. Nothing, to be frank, might prevent her from getting a trip home. In that sense, then, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” could be the perfect choice. Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Related Photos ‘American Idol’ Season 10 Performances
