Natalie Portman’s ‘Black Swan’ Physique Gave Emily Blunt ‘Anxiety’

Blunt, who also plays a ballerina in upcoming Matt Damon thriller, recalls marveling, ‘That girl has some serious guns.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Natalie Portman in “Black Swan” Photo: Fox Searchlight Emily Blunt spent the end of 2009 training to be a ballerina for her role opposite Matt Damon in the 2011 sci-fi thriller, “The Adjustment Bureau.” The training regimen she thrust herself into was borderline brutal. “The tears did start to flow. I did cry a lot in pain,” she told us months later. Around the same time Blunt was pirouetting like a madwoman, Natalie Portman had also slipped on some ballet slippers for “Black Swan.” Portman’s film beat Blunt’s to the screen and quickly became an awards-season fave. Blunt herself is a fan of the film, even if seeing Portman dance caused a bit of apprehension. “I had a full anxiety attack after it but still loved the movie,” Blunt laughed to MTV News while promoting the Christmas release “Gulliver’s Travels.” “That girl has some serious guns,” she explained. “I was like, ‘Wow, her back looks like a barrel of snakes.’ She truly worked out and she looks incredible in the movie.” Blunt shouldn’t sell herself short. She, too, trained intensely for “Adjustment Bureau,” recruiting the artistic director of the modern-dance company Cedar Lake to teach her how to dance like someone who’d been doing it her whole life. “It’s definitely an endurance test, learning how to be a dancer,” she said. “That is some lifestyle. That is day in, day out, hours and hours and hours a day, just crippling your body. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life. I am so happy I did it because I think it’s probably a good thing, soul-building, to do something every day that terrifies and embarrasses you.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Gulliver’s Travels.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Cory Gunz Says Lil Wayne Told Him ‘To Attack’ ‘6’7" ‘

‘Some beats you hear … and they hit you in a certain kind of way,’ the Young Money upstart tells MTV News. By Hillary Crosley, with reporting by Sway Calloway Sway and Cory Gunz Photo: MTV News On Tuesday, Lil Wayne released his first post-prison song, “6’7″,” a cut that features Bronx MC Cory Gunz . The son of rapper Peter Gunz, of “Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)” fame, spoke to MTV News about the strength of producer Bangladesh’s infectious “6’7″ ” beat . “We went straight to the studio and Tunes [told me,] ‘I have something for you to hear,’ and it went from there,” Cory recalled. “[Wayne said], ‘We gon’ have to attack this.’ As soon as I heard it, it was like instant. Some beats you hear [or] certain songs you hear in a party … and they hit you in a certain kind of way and that’s kinda what the beat did. So we sat and the record is now getting an amazing response. People been messing with the record, so it’s dope. I’m happy to be here.” As a Young Money artist, Gunz also said the label heads allow him creative freedom. “Honestly, [Wayne] just told me to be me on the record,” Gunz said. “He didn’t tell me any specific way to write or anything to do, and that’s what I really appreciate. Mack Maine and Slim, they don’t never try to, like, make me do anything that would compromise how I feel about it,” he added about the YM president and Cash Money boss. “They always tell me to be ‘100’ with it and that’s what me and Wayne did — we bodied the record. As for whether fans will be able to catch all of Wayne and Cory’s metaphors at first listen, the MC said fans should take their time. Related Artists Cory Gunz Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne ‘Didn’t Understand’ His #7 Hottest MCs Ranking

‘Label me what you wanna label me,’ Weezy says during radio interview. By Alvin Blanco Lil Wayne Photo: John Parra/ WireImage Even while he was in the midst of his eight-month stay on Rikers Island, Lil Wayne still managed to land at #7 on MTV News’ 2010 Hottest MCs in the Game list. Weezy appeared on satellite-radio channel Shade 45 on Tuesday (December 14) and talked about what he considered to be a pretty low ranking. Host DJ Drama said he heard rumblings that, despite his incarceration, Wayne should have been higher on the list. Lil Wayne was #1 on the list in 2007 and had been in the top five until this year. Drama asked the rapper whether he was upset about where he fell on 2010’s list. “I was, I’m not gonna front, I was,” Weezy admitted. “I didn’t understand it. Somebody tried to explain it to me, like, ‘Nah, it was a list about this.’ They was trying to tell me it was some kinda, l don’t know. … It’s all good. Label me what you wanna label me; everybody know them n—as ain’t f—ing with me, man.” Drama then pointed out that Lil Wayne prot

Lil Wayne Calls Upcoming Single ‘6’7" ‘ A ‘Very Tall Record’

‘Hopefully, it shows people where I’m at lyrically,’ Weezy tells Shade 45. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Last week, Lil Wayne’s right-hand Mack Maine told MTV News that the New Orleans MC’s first expected single from Tha Carter IV, “6’7,”” would be like “A Milli” but “on steroids.” Weezy, however, corrected him on Tuesday (December 14) when he appeared on satellite radio station Shade 45’s morning show with DJ Drama and blogger Karen Civil , in his first extensive interview since his release from prison last month. ( Wayne spoke to MTV News on the red carpet of his welcome home festivities in Miami.) “It’s a monster, actually,” he told Drama. “Hopefully, it shows people where I’m at lyrically. Better than everybody.” But is “6’7″ ” a high-powered “A Milli” on steroids? “Nah,” Wayne said. “Human growth hormones. It’s a very tall record.” The track is reportedly produced by Bangladesh, who helmed the frenetic “A Mili” as well, and will feature Young Money/ Nick Cannon signee Cory Gunz. According to Wayne, he’s also preparing to shoot a video for the clip with iconic hip-hop music director Hype Williams. So far, since his release, the only new Wayne material has been his contribution to Bryan “Baby” Williams’ “Fire Flames” track. But Wayne warned that since his imprisonment, his skills have only increased. “I would say so,” he told Drama, when the DJ asked if he’d improved lyrically compared to before his time in Rikers Island. “I would say, yeah, because it don’t matter where I went, I try to be better than my last [project].” Related Photos The Evolution Of Weezy Related Artists Lil Wayne

T.I. Says Pharrell Asked Him To Vent On ‘Get Back Up’

‘I just need you to get those same sentiments, those same feelings on a record,’ Tip recalls the producer telling him. By Hillary Crosley T.I. Photo: MTV News It’s no secret that T.I. is experiencing a difficult time in his career. The Atlanta rapper was on the cusp of releasing his comeback album, then titled King Uncaged, following a one-year prison stint when he was arrested once again. Tip was sentenced to 11 months for violating his parole and shipped back to the same Arkansas facility he’d just left. But through it all, the MC found inspiration for the track “Get Back Up” from his now-titled No Mercy album. “Yeah, ‘Get Back Up,’ produced by Pharrell of the Neptunes, one of the most passionate, genuine, artistic guys that I’ve met in the game and has had a hand in my movement since my very first album,” T.I. said. “He was one of the first big producers to work with me.” Tip said the pair reconnected and were recording for his then-forthcoming seventh LP when disaster struck. “Prior to my arrest, we had done about three or four songs, considerably hot records, some of which you’ll definitely be hearing on this project,” T.I. said during our exclusive “RapFix Live” interview . “But … I left out the studio, and the next day, I go to jail, or I get arrested, which took me in a whole ‘nother, different direction. “When all of these things started coming to pass, Pharrell called me like, ‘Hey, man, somebody somewhere is trying to tell you something,’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, you know, that may be,’ ” the MC continued. “Then we had a conversation at length about how I felt about the media’s portrayal of my circumstances. And he said, ‘You know what? That’s what you need to say in a song.’ And I say, ‘Man, I ain’t talking about no music right now, P.’ And he say, ‘But that’s what they wanna hear, that’s what you need to tell ’em. Just ride with me on this. I’mma get it to you, and I just need you to get those same sentiments, those same feelings on a record.’ I said, ‘All right, man, give it to me.’ ” It didn’t take the talented producer long to craft a beat perfect for Tip’s emotions. “So it might’ve been a week or two later, he called me and it might’ve been at 4 o’clock in the morning, like, ‘I got it!’ ” T.I. recalled. “I immediately heard the potential, I immediately heard that this was a special record, a personal record, a statement record … and one that could be delivered with humility and not as defensive as it may sound in conversation if I said it.” What do you think of “Get Back Up”? By Hillary Crosley, with reporting by Sway Calloway Nicki Minaj Photo: Taylor Hill/ Getty Images Nicki Minaj recently experienced something few new artists can claim: seeing your debut earn the #2 spot on the Billboard albums chart. The Queens native’s Pink Friday LP sold a little more than 375,000 copies in its first week of release, falling just behind Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Now the MC is prepping the video for Friday ‘s “Moment 4 Life,” which features Young Money labelmate Drake. “She’s shooting hopefully on December 20,” Young Money president Mack Maine told MTV News. “We’re still trying to work out the date for the next video with [Nicki] and Drake for the ‘Moment 4 Life’ video. That’s the next project.” We also spoke to the Young Money head about Nicki’s success and what it has meant to the Miami-by-way-of-New Orleans clan. “It was [a special moment], especially with her being a female in this day and time too,” Maine said. “Also, people don’t know that I was a big factor in making sure that Nicki got signed with us and also just sticking with her through ups and downs. “Just to see her go from a seed being planted to a … forest, just a beautiful flawless forest … the world recognizes. Big ups to Nicki, she worked hard,” he continued. “She represents the female gender, and she basically delivered. There were a lot of odds against her and she defeated all of that and, for her to deliver like that, I gotta say congratulations.” True to form, when news of her sales reached the animated MC , she was overcome, Maine recalled. “She was excited. We talked about it and her emotion was crazy,” Maine said. “She basically shed tears, tears of joy. I have to congratulate her and say thank you to all of the fans that supported — without them we wouldn’t be anything. … She wouldn’t be anything.” Are you excited that “Moment 4 Life” is Nicki’s next single? Nicki Minaj Drives Soldiers Crazy At ‘VH1 Divas’

Young Money MC performs ‘Moment 4 Life,’ ‘Right Thru Me’ and ‘Roman’s Revenge.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe Nicki Minaj performs during “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops” Photo: Frank Micelotta/Getty Images At the “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops” Nicki Minaj paid tribute to America’s soldiers the best way she knows how: get them fired up with a body-rocking performance. Sporting a fluffy white wig, turquoise tights, towering heels and a super-snug, orange and blue mini-dress, Minaj kicked things off with “Moment 4 Life,” an album cut from her chart-busting debut Pink Friday. (Click here to see photos from “VH1 Divas Salute The Troops” .) “In this very moment, I’m king/ In this very moment, I slay Goliath with a sling,” Minaj spit as she strutted across the darkly illuminated stage with her signature flirty yet street swagger. Service members hoisted camera phones in the air as the beat pumped through the massive, tricked-out aircraft hangar. The track was a fitting way to start the performance, as the Young Money queen talks about savoring the moment, rhyming, “Put ya drinks up/ It’s a celebration every time we link up. Greatness is what we on the brink of.” Then a roar erupted from the crowd of soldiers and the flicker of flashing lights picked up as the bass line from Minaj’s hit “Right Thru Me” dropped. Four female dancers in glittery cropped pants and black T-shirts appeared to back up the rapper. Later, four guys joined the crew to bust a few moves. Minaj switched up the track for the soldiers slightly, by holding one of the last notes of the song as she strolled down the runway. The Young Money lyricist, who also teamed up with Katy Perry for a playful cover of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” closed the set on a frenzied note with her rowdy Eminem collabo “Roman’s Revenge.” Trading bars with the assistance of her hypeman, Minaj punched up the set with garish grimaces and struck loopy poses as she tottered about in her stilettos. “I love you guys, thank you!” she proclaimed at the end of the set, and the soldiers sent her off with a salute of their own, chanting, “Nicki! Nicki!” What did you think of Nicki Minaj’s performance at “VH1 Divas”? Let u know in the comments! Nicki Minaj Tweets About Regis Philbin ‘Bootygate’ Incident

Veteran talk-show host inappropriately touched Nicki after her performance on ‘Live With Regis and Kelly.’ By Gil Kaufman Nicki Minaj Photo: Steve Granitz/ WireImage Nicki Minaj has a lot to be thankful for this week. Her debut album, Pink Friday , is headed for a #2 bow on the Billboard 200 albums charts, with one of the highest first-week totals ever for a female rapper’s first effort. But after a bizarre incident during a Monday taping of “Live With Regis and Kelly,” the Young Money queen took to Twitter to air her feelings about the show’s legendary 79-year-old male co-host. After Minaj sang her hit single, “Right Thru Me,” on the program, Philbin and co-host Kelly Ripa came over to greet the 25-year-old MC. That’s when Philbin looked her up and down, said, “I love the way you dress,” and tapped Nicki on the rear end with his hand. After years of putting up with Philbin’s bizarre antics, even Ripa was surprised, yelping “Regis! What just happened?” Minaj tried to play it off, answering Philbin’s follow-up about how she hooked up with label boss Lil Wayne. “So, what advice does Lil Wayne give you?” an unphased Philbin asked. “Wayne tells me to go hard,” Minaj answered. “Go hard?” Philbin deadpanned to the audience’s groans. “I wish I could.” After the show, Nicki took to Twitter to answer a question from a follower who asked, “What went thru your mind when Regis had slapped ya? That was epic!” Minaj wrote back, “LOL. I was in shock!” Related Videos ‘Nicki Minaj: My Time Now’ Related Artists Nicki Minaj

Drake Says He’s Going To ‘Create A World’ On Tour

Toronto MC also reveals fellow Young Money MC Tyga is new opening act on Light Dreams and Nightmares run kicking off Monday. By Shaheem Reid Drake Photo: MTV News Drake says when his Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour kicks off next week, the lineup will be a little different than originally announced. Instead of having the Clipse open the upcoming tour, he’ll keep it to the home team with Tyga. “Me and Tyga. Family thing,” Drake revealed last week during VMA rehearsals for his Sinatra-inspired performance at the Nokia Theatre. “I love the Clipse. That’s why initially I was like, ‘Man, I wanna go out with them.’ Huge Clipse fan my whole life. But it’s one of those things, man. Me and Tyga being family — both being young, new — it made more sense to head out there with him and take on the world on some YM, Young Money. Ironically, the last tour date is the day Wayne gets home.” Actually, Wayne is slated to get out on November 5, a day before Drake’s final show in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel’s the Joint. Obviously, a scheduling conflict could have spelled disaster for the Young Money family. But Drake intends to be there to welcome back Wayne at his homecoming show. “He’s ready. He’s just ready to come home,” Drake said of his friend and Young Money boss. “I know he’s in there counting the days now.” The Toronto native also said Wayne has been working out fanatically while inside and he’s getting “huge.” “He’s filling out an ‘XL’ orange suit. Like, ‘What’s up?’ He’s big.” But back to the tour. Drake said he’s excited to be going out with a more elaborate stage show, as well as more time to perform. “This is my first time ever being able to create a world,” he said. “Prior to this, I’ve had to create my world through performance . You literally have to get lost in the music to make you feel like you were somewhere else. All I really had was like two lights or a couple of lights. My lighting guy is phenomenal. I’ve always had great colors. If you look at the photos from my shows, it’s a mirror image of my music: moody, sometimes eerie. What I did was I built a world, a dream world. It’s not based on a set, it’s based on colors; the lighting is phenomenal. I’ve got this one aspect of it where it goes from day to night. It’s really cool.” And Drizzy promised you’ll get an ample dose of So Far Gone, Thank Me Later and his guest features. “I’m dong an hour and 45 minutes,” the 23-year-old revealed. “For me, that’s crazy to carry an hour-and-45. I have trouble — with all the records I have — doing an hour and 15 minutes. [If] I do an hour and 15 minutes, I’m cutting out ‘Miss Me,’ ‘Light Up,’ ‘Money to Blow,’ records people want to hear. It’s gonna be a real interesting tour. I’m adding all the stuff from Thank Me Later. I’m excited to perform in a world. I’ve never done that before. I’ve got background singers now to make stuff sound sweeter. “Really, I go up there and do everything,” he said of his earlier outings like the Away From Home Tour. “The hooks, the singing, the R&B moments, the dancing with the girls — it’s been a test of my showmanship. … We didn’t go the arena-tour route yet. I didn’t tag along with somebody else’s tour. We still do theaters; maximum 500 people. It’s intimate. I want people to walk away and say, ‘That was great show. It was a fun time.’ ” Will you check out Drake’s new tour? Let us know in the comments! Related Photos Drake’s Style: From A To Drizzy Related Artists Drake
