‘Prometheus’ Could Land R Rating, Will Be Released ‘Uncut’ Regardless

‘We will stand behind it 100 percent and if that means it’s an R, then so be it,’ Fox chief Tom Rothman tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Michael Fassbender as David 8 in “Prometheus” Photo: Twentieth Century Fox Fresh off the release of a visually stunning new “Prometheus” featurette — which we can’t stop talking about here at MTV News — comes this excellent tidbit from Fox studio chief Tom Rothman regarding the film’s still-to-be-determined rating, which could very likely be an R. “The rating board has not opined yet and it will go in to the board soon,” Rothman told us on the press line for the studio’s CinemaCon panel. “This I can tell you and I can tell all the fans, not one frame will be cut. The movie will be what it should be. We will not cut a frame of the film,” he promised. “We will stand behind it 100 percent and if that means it’s an R, then so be it, because not an ounce, not a percentage are we going to compromise the film.” Rothman went on to say that the film does indeed live up to the hype surrounding it and that he genuinely couldn’t wait to see each and every new cut, visual effect and element added to the film during it’s post-production. “When we first saw the movie in 3-D, it’s breathtaking,” he said. “So I hope [it lives up to the hype]. I think so, I believe so.” The excitable studio chief also explained his reasoning behind the title “Prometheus” and why they chose to leave the word “Alien” out of it altogether. “I think the easy thing would have been to make an ‘Alien’ prequel and that’s where it started as an idea, but it evolved,” he said. “Ridley’s ideas are much bigger than that and it really is a brand-new film, and this is the man who made ‘Blade Runner.’ He hasn’t made a science-fiction film in 30 years, and to be honest, I didn’t want to undersell it. ‘Prometheus’ is an ambitious title I hope everybody knows — it’s the name of the ship in the movie but also [based on] the god who stole fire from the gods and gave it to man and paid a serious price for it, so be careful what you do. The cautionary guy, Prometheus,” he joked. Rothman said “Prometheus” is not just a movie for “Alien” fans. “It’s a big, bold new-idea movie and we want it in the title because people know [that] this movie stands on its own,” Rothman added. “If you’re a fan of ‘Alien,’ great. But if you’re not, it’s entirely self-contained and full of new ideas.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Prometheus.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Rap Fire Starter Joe Cool Just Wants The ‘Fame’

The Vernon Parish, Louisiana, MC didn’t have Lil Wayne or Boosie connections, so he made his own way. By Rob Markman Joe Cool Photo: MTV News Fire Starter: Joe Cool There weren’t any local rap heroes for Vernon Parish, Louisiana, MC Joe Cool to pattern himself after, but that didn’t deter the 23-year-old upstart. He was too far from New Orleans to have any Cash Money connection, and hip-hop hot spot Baton Rouge wasn’t exactly nearby, so Joe just looked to his close buddies for support. And now it is all starting to pay off. “I started rapping when I was like 15. All my friends rapped — I was just chillin’ in the background. I used to make funny songs and stuff,” Joe told Mixtape Daily during a February interview. It was those “funny” little songs that then turned into hooks for more-developed local rappers. But at the urging of a friend, Mr. Cool decided to take his craft a bit more seriously. “I just kept going, and by the time I hit high school, I was like, this is something I want to pursue,” he said. Joey dropped his first project, Mixtape for No F—in’ Reason, in March 2011 and then followed up with his most recent, Cooley Hi, at the top of this year. The majority of the tape is self-produced, a skill that JC picked up by necessity at a young age. “By the time I hit 16, I really couldn’t find all of the beats that I wanted to go over, so I just started trying to make my own beats,” he explained. The rap rookie is still climbing up the hip-hop ranks — he performed a few sets at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, last month — but he still has a way to go. On “Fame,” one of the tracks off of Cooley Hi, the Young MC ponders the money and recognition that awaits him. It’s not that he is trying to be a prima donna, he just believes in himself that much. ” ‘Fame’ was pretty much me feeling like I just know I’m supposed to be here. It’s waiting for me,” he said. Justin Bieber Makes Justified Leap To Manhood

Above the Buzz breaks down the teen star’s leap from tween-hood to maturity with ‘Boyfriend,’ a la Justin Timberlake. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images In 2002, Justin Timberlake blew everyone’s minds when he dropped Justified , his star-making solo album. It propelled him from tween-dream poster boy to legitimate pop star. Exactly 10 years later, there’s another young singer who is looking to make the same leap. When Justin Bieber dropped “Boyfriend” earlier this week, he laid down the gauntlet and declared his pop-star manhood. His transition is one that Timberlake faced a decade ago as he looked to carve a new path for himself in a post-‘NSYNC world. With grinding, ear-busting production from the Neptunes and Timbaland , the onetime boy-bander created an album that sounded unlike anything his fans had heard before. Sure, he had teased it on ‘NSYNC’s last album, Celebrity , but this album was different — it was all Timberlake. It was sexy and definitely much edgier lyrically, with him singing about girls and sex in a more-mature way. At the time, he faced the incredibly difficult pop conundrum of having to grow up right before an audience. That’s the challenge Bieber now faces. At 18, he can’t stray too far from his My World days, but in order to grow as an artist and a person, he also can’t make “Baby” over and over again. And, honestly, who would want him to? Edgy and sexy feel like the innate next step for the teen star, with Usher as his mentor — a dude who made a name for himself singing songs about the things he does in the bedroom and flaunting his abs all over town. Although, it’s interesting to note that Bieber chose to follow in Timberlake’s footsteps. A little history lesson: Timberlake once was in a bidding war to sign Bieber on as his prot

Hi Hater: Nasty Newt Gingrich Calls Obama’s Speech About Trayvon Martin “Disgraceful”

Another day, yet ANOTHER idiotic statement by Nasty New t GOP hopeful and resident bloated bullishter Newt Gingrich slammed Barack Obama on Friday, saying the president’s remarks about the fatal February shooting of Trayvon Martin were “disgraceful.” Via HuffingtonPost : What the president said, in a sense, is disgraceful. It’s not a question of who that young man looked like. Any young American of any ethnic background should be safe, period. We should all be horrified no matter what the ethnic background. Is the president suggesting that if it had been a white who had been shot, that would be OK because it didn’t look like him. That’s just nonsense dividing this country up. It is a tragedy this young man was shot. It would have been a tragedy if he had been Puerto Rican or Cuban or if he had been white or if he had been Asian American of if he’d been a Native American. At some point, we ought to talk about being Americans. When things go wrong to an American, it is sad for all Americans. Trying to turn it into a racial issue is fundamentally wrong. I really find it appalling. It sounds like Newt is only trying to play the race card and not very well at that. Clearly, it is a matter of what the young man looked like, isn’t that why he was killed??? Do you agree with Newt’s statements? More On Bossip! ‘Walking Dead’ Producers Preview Season Three

‘You haven’t seen anything yet,’ Robert Kirkman tells MTV News about show’s future. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Kara Warner Andrew Lincoln in “The Walking Dead” Photo: AMC “We’re all infected,” former cop Rick Grimes told his fellow group of survivors in the “Walking Dead” season finale — and boy, is that an understatement. In an action-packed episode that killed off multiple characters in brutal fashion, left the divisive farm completely in ruins, introduced a fan-favorite sword-wielding wanderer and teased the promise of a prison to come, it’s safe to say that the “Walking Dead” season two finale left fans feverish for more. The AMC zombie series, which returns for its third season in October, answered long-term mythological questions (The content of the CDC’s Dr. Jenner’s whisper? No longer a secret!) and pushed the characters into new places, both physically and emotionally. Perhaps most importantly for fans of the comic books, “The Walking Dead” has left the farm behind, with the prison very much in the near future. Between that change of scenery and the introduction of iconic character Michonne (with chained zombies in tow no less), season three is shaping up to be the best of the lot — a notion that executive producers Glen Mazzara and Robert Kirkman certainly agree with, of course. “When I think of ‘The Walking Dead’ book, I think about the prison. I think about the Governor. I think about Rick. I think about Michonne. That, to me, is the heart of that story,” Mazzara told MTV News about the future of the survival horror series. “That’s what I’m excited about writing and seeing come to life. I think that this has been a great chapter one. But now we’re moving into our best material. I’m really excited to see what the actors, the writers and the directors can do with that material.” Kirkman, who created the comic books upon which the TV show is based, is equally excited, if not more so, to revisit “the best material” of the original “Walking Dead” story. “When the camera rises over the trees and the prison comes into view, I did get a little choked up,” Kirkman confessed. “It’s a really cool, very bold promise to the audience. To show that and to say, just wait until you see what we’re going to do with season three. I’m intimately involved with this show. So knowing what we’ve already discussed and knowing the different things that we want to do, I can say that we are at the very beginning of this show. We haven’t quite gotten to a lot of the big things we’ve been building to just yet. If you’re a big fan of ‘The Walking Dead’ and you enjoyed season one and season two, then you haven’t seen anything yet.” “We’re just getting started,” Mazzara agreed. After the season two finale, we’re inclined to agree. What did you think of the “Walking Dead” season finale? Are you looking forward to what comes next in season three? Tell us what you think in the comments section! Related Photos Zombies Take Over New Jersey In Annual ‘Zombie Walk’
