When Lil Wayne decided not to appear for a scheduled chat, Kimmel improvised and called on a random audience member named Carl to act as Wayne. Wearing a wig of fake dreadlocks and trucker hat, Carl played along as the Lil Wayne substitute. Carl didn’t know much about the Young Money leader … so he had a hard time answering Kimmel’s questions, especially about his million-dollar pair of headphones at the NBA All-Star Game. Kimmel made the best of the situation … and as for the whereabouts of the real Lil Wayne, apparently, he was too busy performing at the Hollywood for Caesars Escape to Total Rewards music event in Los Angeles. The Rico Beats-produced banger features pounding drums, well-timed gunshot effects and plenty of tough talk from Nicki and her Young Money boss Lil Wayne . It’s a far cry from last year’s “Super Bass” and the Harajuku Barbie’s RedOne-produced pop-affair “Starships.” “That’s just a preview of what’s to come on the album. I know what people need right now,” Nicki told MTV News in her dressing room at the Amway Center after her NBA All-Star Game performance on Sunday. Anticipation is building for Nick’s sophomore LP, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, and with a little more than a month left before it is released, many are still unsure which direction the Young Money star will take. Will the album sound more like the title track or “Starships”? Of course, there is always a middle ground. “April 3 is gonna be a doozy. It’s gonna be crazy,” Nicki said of her album release date. “It’s gonna be important for just hip-hop culture and pop culture. But when you’re Justin Bieber , you get shouts from Usher, Lil Wayne and Sean Kingston. Be jealous! On Thursday (March 1), the Biebs turned 18 years old, and his most famous of friends hooked up with MTV News to celebrate Bieber’s birthday . “I hope that you are around all of your loved ones and having a good time. This is from big bro, from the heart,” Usher said in a video piece compiled by MTV News for the Biebs. The Confessions singer initially signed Justin along with his manager Scooter Braun, and he has since become a mentor to the pop star. So of course the 33-year-old Usher had to impart some b-day wisdom on his young homey. “Eighteen will give you an opportunity to do a little bit, not all, so we got a few more years before you can go all the way,” he said, acknowledging the three years until JB turns 21 and is allowed to legally drink in the U.S. “Maybe I might even be able to sneak you into a club. Anyway dawg, happy birthday. I love you.” Comedian Kevin Hart isn’t buying all of Justin’s birthday hype, though. “Whatever Justin Bieber is supposed to be doing at 18, he was doing at 15,” he joked after sending his well wish. Platinum hitmakers RedFoo, B.o.B, Sean Kingston and Flo Rida all helped MTV News celebrate the occasion. Even Lil Wayne, who was with Bieber in the studio in February, sent a special message. “Happy Birthday, slime, the big one-eight. You in the club, slime,” Weezy said, standing beside Young Money’s Lil Chuckee. As far as birthday presents go, it’s anybody’s guess what his buddies will actually get Bieber. But Robin Thicke bypassed tradition and instead hit up the “Never Say Never” singer for a loan. “Send me some money, Justin. You got way too much,” he said, laughing. It hasn’t been an easy road for Tyga, who released his independent debut LP, No Introduction, in 2008, but after hooking up with Lil Wayne’s YMCMB crew, he has amassed a series of wins. His biggest single, “Rack City,” has already peaked at #3 on the Billboard Rap Songs chart and spawned a high-profile remix featuring T.I., Young Jeezy, Wale, Fabolous and Meek Mill . While tracks like the Lil Wayne-assisted “Faded” and “King & Queens” featuring Wale and Nas have fans excited about the album, which was released February 21, there is still some controversy surrounding the release. It seems Tyga failed to clear a sample from Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech and the physical CD was pulled from major retail chains like Best Buy and Target. The snafu will no doubt put a dent in Tyga’s first-week sales, but he is still projected to sell about 75,000 copies digitally. Houston rapper Trae Tha Truth will also appear on this week’s “RapFix Live” to make a special announcement. Emerging from the underground rap crew the Screwed Up Click, Trae has made quite a name for himself in the streets. With a number of solo albums, mixtapes and collaboration LPs like 2003’s A–holes by Nature , with Z-Ro, Trae has become one of the most respected MCs in the game. His 2011 LP Street King featured contributions from Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Wyclef Jean and Wiz Khalifa, to name a few. Now Trae is ready to take a new step in his career, but you have to tune in to “RapFix Live” on Wednesday to find out. Finally, DJ Whoo Kid is set to hit the famous red couch with newly inked G-Unit Signee Paris. Fans may have heard the femcee spitting on 50 Cent’s latest mixtape project, Big 10. The actress was booked on charges of misdemeanor battery last night after an alleged incident outside the Governor Balls in Hollywood, an annual Academy Awards party hosted by the Academy itself. Sources tell TMZ that Young was hanging out with friends near the entrance of the party when she was asked to leave because she didn’t have an invitation. When Young returned a short while later, a security guard placed his hand on her shoulder, in an attempt to escort her off the premises, when Young reportedly slapped him and was placed under citizen’s arrest until the LAPD arrived and took her into custody. The reigning queen of rap rocked her smash single “Super Bass” in the jam-packed b-ball arena. Wearing a skintight white jumpsuit and a blond and pink hairdo, the Young Money MC spit her bars and hit her dance steps in front of the thousands of fans in Amway and the millions watching at home. After the short set, Nicki strutted back to her dressing room and spotted MTV News on the way. The topic of conversation? MTVs Hottest MCs in the Game VII , of course. Nicki placed #4 on the list and proceeded to talk her ish as a true MC should. “Hottest MCs #4, let’s get it,” she boasted with a Queens swagger. “That’s big, though. I deserve it. I put in work.” On Thursday night Nicki released her new single “Roman Reloaded” with Lil Wayne, and on the new single from her upcoming sophomore album she made sure to brag and boast. Only Rick Ross, Drake and Kanye West placed higher, giving Minaj the highest Hottest ranking for a female MC in the history of the debate. Nicki was initially slotted at #5 with Young Money boss Wayne clocking in at #4, but several members of the MTV Hottest Brain Trust felt strongly enough about Nicki’s accomplishments mixed with her lyrical impact and ability to more than hold her own when playing with the boys warranted a second look at her ranking. Hottest MCs moderator Sway Calloway called for a vote and in the end, six of the nine experts elected to move Nicki up to the #4 spot, sending Weezy down to #5.
