Mark Wahlberg and Rose Bryne Talk Instant Family, The Red Sox & Parenting

Mark Wahlberg and Rose Bryne star in the new family comedy Instant Family from Paramount Pictures. Today on Extra Butter with Xilla Valentine I talk to the pair about their feel-good comedy. The movie follows Pete and Ellie, played by Mark and Rose, when they decide to start a family, only to end up in the world of foster care adoption. They in willing to take in one small child, but eventually fall in love with the idea of taking in three siblings, including a rebellious 15-year-old girl. Literally, overnight they go from zero to three kids and watching the new parents learn the ropes of instant parenthood in the hope of becoming a family is completely hilarious. I went into this thinking a comedy about adoption, really! Surprisingly the movie really worked. Mark and Rose had instant chemistry on film, I asked them when did they know they had something. Mark said he knew it the moment Rose signed on to be in the film, “When we had our first table read rehearsal on the Sony lot, on a little soundstage and she is fantastic. Elle is such a great character, very well written, she is tough and no-nonsense. I loved the moment when she starts going in on her family and starts telling them what she’s going to do, after the idea of them being relieved that they weren’t going to adopt then she decides no we are going to do it, just to spite them.” The movie has some really funny moments that make you laugh but shows the difficulty of foster care. There is a scene where Pete and Elle are having dinner with the kids and the youngest daughter demands potato chips. You can see that clip in this episode. The pair kept showering each other with praise throughout the interview with Rose telling that Mark was a delight to work with revealing how he went to go serve the troops during his downtime filming. Instant Family is a funny film that is filled with heart and worth seeing if you need a feel-good movie or if this weekend’s big-budget blockbuster is sold out and you’re looking for another option. Instant Family is in theaters now.

The Rewind: Mahershala Ali Motors Through Jim Crow’s America & Sade’s Got A New Track

Source: Global Grind / Global Grind You already know what time it is! It’s time for another episode of Global Grind’s The Rewind  hosted by none other than DJ Franchise and Landon Lavarius. Like we do each and every week, The Rewind is going to break down some of the things you may have missed out on a week ago, recap, share our take and then wrap it all up with a 1 to 10 rating to let you know whether it was worth living under a rock over. On today’s episode, Landon Lavarius and DJ Franchise will discuss Mahershala Ali’s new movie Green Book which dropped today, November 16th. The film also stars Viggo Mortensen and is about Ali, who plays a world-class pianist who’s about to embark on a concert tour in the Deep South in 1962 and hires a tough-talking bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx as his driver and bodyguard.  It’s like Driving Miss Daisy but in reverse. Landon and Franchise both got to watch the movie, however, they have conflicting views as to whether the film is hot or not. Landon Lavarius brings up a great point about Viggo Mortensen’s recent N-word controversy. During a question and answer session for the movie, Viggo dropped the N bomb while explaining racism in the 1960s. Ali actually discussed the incident during an appearance on The View. He said, “In this case and with Viggo who I absolutely love and adore, there’s a difference between racism, insensitivity and a lack of awareness. Any time a debate can be had in black culture about the appropriateness of the word, that should be left in black culture to have that debate, [in the] black community. But any time a non-black person says it in a space, there’s a mini-explosion that goes off within you because you suddenly haven’t processed the intention behind it, the relationship behind it.” Find out what Landon and DJ Franchise rate the film by clicking play. Have you been itching for some new music from Sade? Well, on November 10th, the songbird released a new track ‘The Big Unknown’ which appears on the soundtrack for the Steve McQueen-directed film Widows  starring Viola Davis. Did our girl Sade deliver a smash? Landon and DJ Franchise weigh in! Also, we couldn’t let an entire episode of The Rewind go by without wishing a heartfelt farewell to the creative genius that is Stan Lee. Check out the latest episode of The Rewind above!

Kanye West & Mark Zuckerberg Sang A Backstreet Boys Classic During Karaoke Session

Source: ABC / abc When it comes to Kanye West nothing surprises me anymore. Not even him singing Karaoke with the creator of Facebook. Via | HotNewHipHop No word on if Zuckerberg committed to investing $1B into Kanye West ideas. Kanye West  recently delayed the release of his upcoming album  Yandhi  because it’s not ready. While we could only imagine that he’s been locking some serious time perfecting the  Ye  follow-up, it looks like he took some time off of recording and producing to do some karaoke with one of the leading CEO’s in the tech world. Kanye West chose Mark Zuckerberg as his karaoke partner last night. The artist took to Twitter to share a photo of himself and the Facebook CEO having a bit of fun at karaoke while singing a classic hit by the Backstreet Boys. READ MORE

Wait What?: PlayStation Will Not Be Showing Anything At E3 2019

Source: FREDERIC J. BROWN / Getty It officially has been five years since Sony blessed us with the PlayStation 4 console. On top of celebrating the PS4, the company dropped the bombshell that it would not have a presence at E3 2019. Wait a minute here. A Sony rep confirmed the surprising news to Polygon  explaining that the company is looking for ways to “innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers.” Per Polygon: “As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community “PlayStation fans mean the world to us, and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.” Sony and PlayStation’s absence will be the first time in the convention’s 24-year history. Sony wowed gamers back in May 1995 at the first ever E3 Conference when it announced the U.S. launch date and price for the first PlayStation console . Despite Sony’s surprising absence, Microsoft, Nintendo as well as publishers like Activision, Ubisoft, Take-Two and more are already committed to E3 2019. As you can imagine the speculation as to why Sony decided not to attend has gamers believing that the company will be holding its own conference and will possibly be dropping a major bomb in the form of the PS5. In case you missed the screaming/hypothesizing on Kinda Funny Games Daily, PlayStation skipping #E32019 has blown my mind. It's bold, confident, and crazy. I think it means they're going to do their own event after E3 and come with megaton after megaton culminating in PS5. pic.twitter.com/OqQQJ7PQSB — Greg Miller (@GameOverGreggy) November 15, 2018 We also believe that as well, but E3 will be a little dry without PlayStation. For the past couple of years, they have been bringing the excitement each year, so Sony’s absence is a gut punch for those looking forward to E3 2019. This is the second event PlayStation has canceled. The annual PlayStation Experience event the company holds at the beginning of December has been put on ice as well. This story is still developing. — Photo: FREDERIC J. BROWN / Getty

5 Instagram Pages That Will Slowly—But Surely—Help You Be Kinder To Yourself

Source: Hero Images / Getty The holidays can be so beautiful, but it’s also a season that comes with many, many…MANY expectations . From finishing out strong at your place of employment to dealing with toxic family members, it can get stressful. Not to mention, all the gifts you’re supposed to magically have money for, in addition to your usual bills. It becomes a lot and we don’t blame anyone who’s feeling worn out, sad, or even a little less than flawless this time of year. With all that said, for World Kindness Day today, we’re here to help you be a little nicer to YOURSELF as you do your best to get through it all. Besides all the situations you might be dealing with personally, it’s also been difficult for all of us to go out into the world with optimism about our lives as we witness crippling injustice day in and day out. Young Black faces are being killed on the regular, mass shooters threaten concerts, bars, and even schools…we’re tired and at the risk of sounding dramatic, somewhat traumatized . So as we get through these tough times and bring in 2019, self-care is a must…body positivity is a must…self-love is non-negotiable. If we want a better, kinder world we have to begin with how we speak to ourselves. So, where should you start? We’re millennials, so we’re not about to tell you to go get a massage (although, don’t get us wrong, you should definitely hideaway at your favorite spa as often as you can). Instead, since we know the first thing you do in the morning is check your phone, we’re feeding right into your unhealthy gadget addiction with 5 pages you need to follow on Instagram—not now, but RIGHT NOW. Turn on the notifications, save the posts that speak to you, and internalize positive affirmations on the go, before bed, and when you’re feeling like no one in the world can possibly understand, use these accounts to relieve the pressure. These pages, as suggested by the editors of Global Grind & CASSIUSLife.com, help us feel like the bad motherf*ckers we are. …Also, go to the spa. @maryamhasnaa It’s no coincidence the alternative and holistic health guru has nearly 100,000 followers. If you’re having trouble moving on from the past and focusing on a brighter future, she’s your go-to. @raeholliday One of our own, Rae Holliday’s “InspiRAEtional Quotes” go viral on the regular. The award-winning media and TV personality knows about starting from the ground up and will have you feeling more empowered and focused in no time. @wedreaminhd Have a dream, but not so confident in your abilities to achieve anything more than the regular, degular? This is the page for you. @meandsomebodydaughter Affirmations of gratitude, faith and self-love come in different forms. Whenever we feel down on love or not as confidence in our blackness, we head to this page just to remind ourselves we matter and that special someone is out there for us. @selfcareisforeveryone The Self-Care Station describes itself as a space that “honors the importance of choosing self-care over self-harm.” Simply put, this page gets it.
