Mindless Behavior Say Touring With Justin Bieber Was ‘Crazy’

‘Bieber, he’s a great dude. He gave us advice backstage,’ bandmember Roc Royal tells MTV News. By Mawuse Ziegbe Mindless Behavior Photo: MTV News According to Mindless Behavior , touring with Justin Bieber is a rowdy experience. The rising quartet, which includes 13- and 14-year-old Philadelphia and Los Angeles natives Prodigy, Roc Royal, Princeton and Ray Ray, hit the road with Justin Bieber in December. When they stopped by the MTV News offices on Friday, they dished that opening up for the teen superstar meant rocking the stage for thousands while grappling with the Biebs’ hard-core fanbase. “It was crazy,” plaited singer Ray Ray admitted. “He has a lot of fans.” Fellow Mindless singer Princeton — who fans may remember as that cute krumpin’ kid from Gym Class Heroes’ 2006 video for “Cupid’s Chokehold/ Breakfast in America” — added that in addition to dodging legions of Beliebers, the boys had to bring it in massive arenas. “Every night, 15,000 fans,” the curly-haired crooner said, adding that the teen crew used the adrenaline to pump up their performances. “It made us nervous, but the minute we hit that stage — and the stage is big, by the way, like really big — but the minute we hit that stage the nerves just turned into great energy.” Getting face time with concertgoers also helped to ease their nerves. “Before the show we always did meet-and-greets, so the fans were really nice and very supportive,” Princeton explained. With their peppy text-friendly jam “My Girl” gaining traction and their status as budding heartthrobs blossoming, the Mindless fellas got some tips from Bieber on how to handle their growing fame. Rapper Roc Royal said the “Baby” singer was really cool about doling out pop-star guidance. “Bieber, he’s a great dude. He gave us advice backstage. He’s nice,” Roc said. “He told us don’t be nervous because it’s just fans, and you love it.” Roc added that Bieber was always down for a laugh — even if it came at the expense of the Mindless guys’ eardrums. “[Our] favorite moments [were] when Bieber came into our room and we start playing,” he smiled, recalling an instance in which the pop megastar barged into their rooms blasting an ear-shattering horn. “Like, he starts blowing the whistles in our rooms. [It’s] like, ‘Aw, man stop!’ “He came in on a Segway, and he was like [makes horn sound]. We were like, ‘Ah!’ ” Roc continued. “Definitely those moments when we were backstage and we were in our sweats just having fun.” Pop-star mentorship aside, the boys insist that Bieber isn’t going to get away with the reckless whistle-blowing. Ray Ray joked that the guys might just turn the intense energy of Bieber’s fans against him. “We gonna put fans backstage so when he comes he gets attacked,” he laughed. Princeton had another idea: “Take his Segway!” he said, pretending to jack Justin’s wheels, exclaiming, ” ‘What up, Biebs? Vrooom!’ ” Did you see Mindless Behavior on tour with Justin Bieber? Kush Chronicles: Most Popular Youtube Town Hall Meeting Questions For President Barack Obama Are About Marijuana

F*ck everything else, the citizens of the United States of America want answers about when that “yah-mean” is about to be legalized: President Barack Obama plans to take questions from YouTube viewers Thursday afternoon, and for the third time in as many years, the overwhelmingly most popular query involves the legalization of marijuana. Of the top 100 most popular questions as rated by YouTube users, 99 are about the drug war or pot. Of the next one hundred, 99 are again about drug policy. Somehow, two questions about clean energy made their way into the top 200. The pot questions don’t stop there, but HuffPost stopped counting deep into the 200s, as the president is unlikely to answer all of them. If past history is any guide, he may not answer any of them. A White House spokesman tells HuffPost that the president on Thursday will answer whatever questions YouTube puts before him. “A selection of top voted questions has been made to insure that as many of the most important questions as voted by the YouTube community will be asked,” a YouTube spokesperson told HuffPost. Obama did answer the question in 2009, addressing folks who asked if the president would consider legalizing marijuana to boost the economy and tax revenue. “Can I just interrupt, Jared, before you ask the next question, just to say that we — we took votes about which questions were going to be asked and I think 3 million people voted,” he said to aide Jared Bernstein. “I have to say that there was one question that was voted on that ranked fairly high and that was whether legalizing marijuana would improve the economy — (laughter) — and job creation. And I don’t know what this says about the online audience — (laughter) — but I just want — I don’t want people to think that — this was a fairly popular question; we want to make sure that it was answered. The answer is, no, I don’t think that is a good strategy — (laughter) — to grow our economy in 2009.” That answer tortured legalization backers as much as being ignored, if this year’s questions are an indication. Many of them knock the president for laughing at their issue. SMH. Source

‘American Idol’ This Week: Adam Lambert’s Audition And More

At this time over the past nine seasons, an ‘Idol’ dad went to Washington and William Hung made his debut. By Katie Byrne Adam Lambert auditions for “American Idol” on January 20, 2009 Photo: FOX The second week of “American Idol” is about to kick off, so let’s review what we’ve learned from season 10 so far: Steven Tyler has taught us the value of a sound bite , Jacee Badeaux and Brett Loewenstern taught us not to judge on first impressions alone, and Randy Jackson taught us … well, let’s not get carried away. We haven’t learned that much yet. But at this same time over the past nine seasons of “American Idol,” we had already met Adam Lambert and saw one “Idol” alum’s dad replace Ted Kennedy in the U.S. Senate. Let’s take a look back at This Week in “American Idol” to see what went down during the second week of seasons past: 2010: Mr. Brown Goes to Washington Back in season five, Ayla Brown made it to the top 16 with her booming voice, all-American look and prodigious poise. Apparently, all these qualities were better fit for a career in politics, where Ayla’s dad, Scott Brown, has thrived, assuming Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat in a special election this week last year. MTV News caught up with Ayla in January 2010 right after her dad’s win to see why she thought “Idol” didn’t work out for her back in 2007. “I didn’t think people got the chance to see who I was and my personality,” she told us. “It was hard to overcome that, but I gave it my all and I’m just disappointed America didn’t vote for me.” Well, it looks like America voted for the Brown family the second time around. 2009: Adam Lambert Wails His Way Into Our Hearts When we were first introduced to Adam Lambert, he was fresh off a stint in the musical “Wicked” and got the “theatrical” brush-off from Simon Cowell (who eventually came around and voted him through to Hollywood after all). While that first meeting wasn’t too far off from the over-the-top performer we came to know and love, what’s really surprising is how MTV News “Idol” expert Jim Cantiello described Lambert in his live blog of the season-eight San Francisco auditions : “8:48 pm – ‘Idol’ math: David Cook + Clay Aiken = Adam Lambert.” What?!? More like Lady Gaga + Robert Plant, or maybe even new judge Steven Tyler. But Jim turned out to be more than a little prescient in his next live-blog entry: “8:50 pm – Adam just came out of the closet. Welllll, he just said he saw Paula Abdul on tour when he was ten. So… ” 2007: “American Idol” and the Sundance Kid There’s nothing “Idol” fans love more than a totally surprising (and totally thrilling) audition. One of the most memorable first impressions belongs to Jason “Sundance” Head, the then-28-year-old son of “Treat Her Right” singer Roy Head . Sundance wowed the judges with his bluesy take on “Stormy Monday” — especially after he walked in the room with an overgrown goatee and his shirt unbuttoned a bit too far. “Powerful voice; didn’t expect it,” Paula Abdul said when he finished, with hard-to-please Simon Cowell even chiming in, “I’m going to be amazed if you don’t make the finals.” That part didn’t go so well: Sundance never recaptured his “Stormy Monday” glory, and he missed out on the season-six top 12 in favor of Sanjaya Malakar. Ouch. 2004: He Bangs, He Bangs On the other side of the audition spectrum was William Hung. When it comes to bad auditions, no one is more memorable than the Berkeley engineering student who informed the judges that he had “no professional training.” But Hung had the last laugh: His debut album, Inspiration, actually sold tens of thousands of copies, which isn’t far off from Lee DeWyze’s numbers. Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.

Shakira’s Ass Performing of the Day

Shakira performed at some low level event recently and who really gives a fuck….Someone needs to teach this bitch a little “How To Make It In America” cuz I don’t like how easy her transition from Colombia was. She must of known pretty powerful drug runners, who sold to pretty powerful entertainment people, cuz American Dreams she’s living don’t happen without serious corruption and nudity…. I’m just tired of seeing her one trick, even if that one trick is an ass shake…I’ve been to stripclubs regularly and seeing the same routine from the same bitch, over and over again, fucking sucks…and that’s when the bitch is naked…so you can imagine how I feel about this pictures…if you really want to take the time to care about me…I think you should…it makes me feel loved…and less of the shell of a man I am…. But her backup dancer I could get used to watching pop, lock and booty shake….Give her her time to shine you hog.

Tobey Maguire Thinks New ‘Spider-Man’ Suit Is ‘Cool’

‘I’m excited to see it in action,’ the ex-‘Spider-Man’ star says about the outfit Andrew Garfield will wear in the upcoming prequel. By Terri Schwartz Tobey Maguire Photo: George Pimentel/ Getty Images PARK CITY, Utah — Ever since Andrew Garfield was announced to star as Spider-Man in Marc Webb’s big-screen reboot of the Marvel superhero franchise, all eyes have been turned to Tobey Maguire to see what his response would be. It’s not so much that Garfield replaced Maguire as Peter Parker as that Sony, who produces the films, decided that the series would be better served if it followed the teenage version of Parker through his transition — you know, to tap into the “Twilight” teen audience. And thus, the yet-untitled “Spider-Man” prequel was born. But there never has been any hard feelings between the two Spideys, at least publicly. The first picture of Garfield as Spider-Man hit the Internet on January 13, and it showed a different take on the famed suit than the one Maguire donned in the three Sam Raimi films. MTV recently caught up with Maguire at the Sundance Film Festival, and the former “Spider-Man” star said he has seen the new suit and liked what he saw. “I thought it looked cool,” revealed Maguire. “I mean, I think they did a great job with the design of it, and I’m excited to see it in action.” It’s not the first time Maguire has voiced his approval of the “Spider-Man” prequel . During a December interview with BBC News, Garfield admitted that Maguire had reached out to him to congratulate him on the role and give him his backing. “He sent me a lovely message through a mutual friend,” said Garfield. “He gave me his support, and it meant a great deal, of course, because part of the reason I love and have continued to love this character was because of his portrayal. To step into those shoes is no mean feat. It was generous of him to reach out and say something, so I’m thankful.” The “Spider-Man” prequel is filming right now, and is set to be released on July 3, 2012. ‘It was very exciting. It’s incredible. I’m in shock,’ ‘True Grit’ teen star tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Hailee Steinfeld Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images As more and more of Hollywood woke up to the news of the Oscar nominations on Tuesday morning (January 25), the nominees themselves opened up about the recognition they’d received from the Academy. “What an extraordinary journey this film has taken me on! ‘Rabbit Hole’ has been a labor of love and I’m so thankful to John Cameron Mitchell, David Lindsay-Abaire and the brilliant cast,” Nicole Kidman said in a statement to MTV News about her Best Actress nod. “This nomination reflects all of the heart and soul that these people have put into it, and I can’t thank them enough.” Oscar host, James Franco, finds himself a nominee at the show as well. He’s up for Actor in a Leading Role for his role in “127 Hours.” “I’m about to go to class,” Franco said on the “Today” show. “I’ve got my normal pre-class makeup on, and there are some lights here. It’s great.” Hailee Steinfeld also spoke to the “Today Show” about her nomination for Actress in a Supporting Role for her part in “True Grit.” “I was asleep and I heard my mom and dad screaming in the other room. They came in my room with flowers,” she said. “It was very exciting. It’s incredible. I’m in shock. The film overall is incredible. To be a part of it all was amazing. I’m so proud of it all.” “True Grit” directors/producers/writers Joel and Ethan Coen are up for Best Picture, Best Directing and Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay), but they didn’t want to seem greedy about it. “Ten [nominations] seems like an awful lot,” they told AwardsDaily.com. “We don’t want to take anyone else’s.” “The Fighter” star Melissa Leo was the first to speak to “Good Morning America” after her Supporting Actress nomination was announced. “What a thrill to share it with all of America right now,” she said. “Love to my family. Love to Alice Ward [the real-life woman I play in the film]. Thank you guys so much! Alice, we’re going to the Oscars!” Leo also commented on Mark Wahlberg not receiving a nomination for his part in the film. “Right now, Mark Wahlbergh, the most generous man I’ve ever met, is receiving all sorts of nominations. Every nomination is a nomination for Mark Wahlberg. There would be nothing without him,” she added. “It was just incredible. The proof is in the pudding.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Exclusive: ‘Skins’ Creator Speaks Out

For the first time since the show’s premiere, Bryan Elsley responds. By MTV News staff The cast of “Skins” Photo: MTV In 2007, Bryan Elsley — working alongside his son, Jamie Brittain — created “Skins,” a drama that took British television by storm, thanks in no small part to its whip-smart writing, gritty feel and willingness to go there, unflinchingly covering topics like sex, sexual identity, substance abuse and mental health issues. In short, it was the kind of television that resonated with teens and critics alike, raising controversy along the way. In the years since its initial premiere, “Skins” gained a cult audience here in the U.S., where the British version also ran on BBC America, and in August 2009, it was announced that Elsley would be partnering with MTV to create a Stateside version of the show. And on January 17, “Skins” finally premiered … to record-setting numbers, and a new round of controversy and critics. Now, Elsley has decided to respond in a statement released exclusively to MTV News on Monday. Statement from “Skins” creator Bryan Elsley: Skins is a very simple and in fact rather old fashioned television series. It’s about the lives and loves of teenagers, how they get through high school, how they deal with their friends, and also how they circumnavigate some of the complications of sex, relationships, educations, parents, drugs and alcohol. The show is written from the perspective of teenagers, reflects their world view, and this has caused a degree of controversy both in the UK and the USA. In the UK, viewers and commentators very quickly realized that although there are some sensational aspects to the show, Skins is actually a very serious attempt to get to the roots of young people’s lives. It deals with relationships, parents, death, illness, mental health issues, the consequences of drug use and sexual activity. It is just that these are characterized from the point of view of the many young people who write the show and has a very straightforward approach to their experiences; it tries to tell the truth. Sometimes that truth can be a little painful to adults and parents. Consequences do flow from incorrect or selfish behavior but in the show, these are shown to be unexpected, hard to predict, and more to do with the loss of friendship than anything else, which in any context, is a disastrous outcome. We proceed from the idea, not that teenagers are inherently likely to misbehave, but rather that they are intensely moral and disposed to make judgments on their own and others’ behaviour. Sometimes, but not always, they get things wrong. In this teenagers are remarkably similar to adults. Their morals may not be the same as those of their parents and teachers, but they are nevertheless, highly developed and active in their world. When viewers have taken the time to watch the show in a little more depth, they are less concerned about the behavior of the characters. Teenagers can be loyal, supportive, dedicated, focused, and capable of making informed value judgments about their lives. In the pilot episode of Skins, it’s possibly easy to overlook the story wherein a young boy sets off to a party to sell drugs and have sex, but in fact, does neither of these things, because, he senses that he has been manipulated by friends and does not feel ready to have sex with someone he does not know properly. Skins is a traditionally made television series which has won countless international awards and gained a worldwide audience for stories about the joy, misery and challenges of being a teenager. The show has been used in anti-drug campaigns, has drawn praise for its portrayal of mental health issues and explorations of bereavement, sexuality, bullying and gender stereotyping. I have lost count of the letters we have been sent by viewers who tell us that they have been able to approach their parents or teachers with their difficulties after watching the show. It is something that we take a great deal of pride in and which can unfortunately be eclipsed by some of the negative attention. Our approach is not careless. We’ve created a supportive and protective environment for everyone working on the show. And of course abide by the law, and give respect to our work colleagues who in this case, are young energetic and exciting people with so much to offer to an imperfect world.
