Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson Top Grammy Performer Poll

Fans can’t wait for their Aretha Franklin tribute, with Lady Gaga and Eminem’s performances the next most anticipated. By Kyle Anderson Christina Aguilera Photo: Getty Images The 53rd annual Grammy Awards are almost here, and while the hardware tends to be the main event, the roster of performers is one of the most star-studded and high-profile in the show’s history. Eminem, Dr. Dre, Cee Lo Green, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Drake, Arcade Fire, Justin Bieber, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Katy Perry, Muse, B.o.B, Usher, Bob Dylan and Bruno Mars are among the heavy hitters who will be taking the stage Sunday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. But which performance is creating the most buzz among fans tuning in to watch the show? Earlier this week, the MTV Newsroom blog posed just such a question, and the results are now in. As soon as voting began, the competition became a war of attrition between supporters of Lady Gaga and hard-core devotees of Eminem. But once the producers announced that there would be a tribute to Aretha Franklin led by Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Hudson , the competition suddenly morphed into a three-way dance. After hundreds of thousands of votes were cast, the Aretha Franklin tribute (also featuring Florence Welch, Martina McBride and Yolanda Adams) finished in first place with 45 percent of the total vote. It’s a pretty impressive finish, especially considering that the performance wasn’t announced until after voting began. Lady Gaga ended up in second place with 23 percent, with Eminem just behind her with 20 percent. Perhaps fueled by the buzz over the release of “Never Say Never,” Justin Bieber made a late run and managed to cobble together 9 percent. Katy Perry was the only other Grammy performer to pick up more than a single percentage point, and poor Miranda Lambert ended up bringing up the rear. All of Sunday night’s Grammy performances promise to be electric, but fans can barely contain themselves for Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga and Eminem. Don’t miss “Snooki & Sway: Live From the Grammys,” a red-carpet live stream kicking off Sunday at 6 p.m. ET on MTV.com. Jennifer Hudson Talks Grammy Aretha Franklin Tribute

‘I’m like on cloud nine,’ Hudson says of rehearsing for the Franklin medley with Christina Aguilera, Martina McBride and other stars. By Matt Elias Jennifer Hudson and Florence Welch rehearse for the Grammys Photo: John Shearer/ WireImage Thursday night in Los Angeles saw the convergence of some of the biggest voices in music at the Staples Center, as Grammy rehearsals kicked off for the Aretha Franklin tribute. The genre-spanning group included Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera, Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, country star Martina McBride and gospel great Yolanda Adams. The fivesome powered through a medley of Franklin’s hits that will open the 53rd annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night. The Staples Center rafters rattled as the group belted out “Natural Woman,” before each diva took on their own Franklin tune. Aguilera went first with “Ain’t No Way,” McBride was up next with “Until You Come Back to Me,” Welch followed with “Think,” Jennifer Hudson tackled the iconic “Respect” and Adams rounded things out with “Spirit in the Dark.” The ladies all closed with the empowering “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves.” “Dreamgirl” Hudson and Brit songstress Welch were clearly having a good time onstage, bumping hips and improvising their own two-steps. Minutes after the rehearsal, Hudson spoke to MTV News about the tribute. “Rehearsals are going, and went, very well,” Hudson said. “It’s a lot of fun, and just being amongst the other ladies and being around some of my favorite artists, and then tributing Aretha Franklin, it’s just like surreal. And it’s a moment you just have to take in and enjoy it, and I’m like on cloud nine just in that moment.” As far as the monumental task of deciding which song to select from the Queen of Soul, the decision, it turns out, wasn’t Hudson’s problem. “They were chosen for us,” she admitted. “I know that had to be the hardest job because Aretha has like catalogues of music. And I remember when they asked me to submit a list and I’m like, ‘Oh my God! Where do I start?’ ” You’ll have to tune in Sunday night to see how the divas pull it off. Songstress thanks soldiers for their service during her performance. By Mawuse Ziegbe Keri Hilson performs during “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops” Photo: Getty Images Armed with her girl-power single “Pretty Girl Rock,” Keri Hilson rocked members of the U.S. Armed Forces at the “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops” event. Decked out in a gold bustier, high-waisted pants and a fringe-laden jacket, Hilson brought her saucy, sexpot swagger to the stage. Flanked by four back-up dancers in stylized military jackets that showed a lot of leg, the ladies oozed sassy sexuality as the Atlanta songstress swiveled her hips and cooed, the mass of concertgoers cheering her on. (Click here to see photos from “VH1 Divas Salute The Troops” .) After giving the soldiers a fun show, Hilson gave a shout-out to the service members, thanking them for protecting Americans at home and abroad. “You guys are so beautiful. I just want to say thank you so much because if it wasn’t for each and every one of you, we could not be here and have the freedom to do what we do,” she said. Hilson reveled in that freedom by putting in work through the event. In addition to her solo set, Hilson got it started with her fellow Divas several times throughout the night. She joined Katy Perry and Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles for a rousing, retro opening number, and teamed up with Nettles once again for a rendition of soul great Aretha Franklin’s 1968 anthem “Think.” The songbird later broke down her “Divas” experience to reporters, and said participating in the event was “incredible.” “I’m in great company with past Divas, and not only is it about me being here, it’s also about what we’re doing here, supporting the troops. I took pictures with guys yesterday … and one of them just said, ‘I just want to thank you for coming. Thank you for doing this. Not many people do this and take time out of their schedule to do something like this,” she explained. “It’s been not only enlightening, it’s been very fulfilling. I’m very happy to be here.” What did you think of Keri Hilson’s performance at “VH1 Divas”? Let us know in the comments!
