Britney Spears On Working With Lady Gaga: ‘Anything’s Possible’

Singer poses on manga-inspired Pop cover. By James Dinh Britney Spears on the cover of Pop Photo: J-Pop From schoolgirl to toxic temptress, Britney Spears has played many characters throughout the years. But the singer took a very different approach for her photo spread in the upcoming issue of the U.K.’s Pop magazine by channeling her inner manga character. In the issue, the pop princess dished about the possibilities of a Lady Gaga collaboration and working with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami for the anime-inspired cover. Despite Gaga overthrowing Spears as the most-followed celebrity on Twitter, the singer had no hard feelings toward pop’s newest sensation. “I’m a big fan of hers,” she said when asked about working with Gaga. “Anything’s possible!” A collaboration between the pop stars doesn’t seem out of the question, as Gaga’s mega-hit “Telephone” duet with Beyonc

Eminem To Perform at 2010 MTV VMAs

The VMA veteran returns to the stage with eight nominations from his best-selling Recovery. By Gil Kaufman Eminem Photo: Michael Caulfield/ WireImage You can’t throw the year’s biggest party without inviting the artist with the best-selling album of 2010. Especially if that guy happens to be Eminem , whose history with the MTV Video Music Awards is long, legendary and full of the kind of eye-popping moments that make the VMAs the must-TiVo event of the year. Slim Shady will bless the show’s stage on September 12, where he is nominated for eight Moonmen for his smash comeback album Recovery, the best-selling non-country release of the year. Em joins an already star-packed roster of performers that includes Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Drake, B.o.B and Florence and the Machine, as well as in-house DJ Deadmau5 and host Chelsea Handler. The list of presenters already includes Ke$ha, Nicki Minaj, Emma Stone, Penn Badgley, Trey Songz, Ashley Greene, Selena Gomez and Ne-Yo. Over the years, Eminem has given some of the most iconic performances of the modern VMA era, none bigger than 2000’s Night of the Living Shadys. During that show, Em began his run through Video of the Year-winning hit “The Real Slim Shady” out on the streets of Manhattan, surrounded by an army of clones dressed exactly like him. The brigade then marched into Radio City Music Hall as Em finished “Shady” and then busted into a visceral “The Way I Am.” Even when he wasn’t performing on the show, Eminem — who ranks sixth on the list of all-time VMA winners — has made his presence felt over the years, as he did in 2002 with his infamous run-in with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog . Viewers can vote for general VMA categories, including Best New Artist, by visiting VMA.MTV.com . In addition, text voting for Best New Artist is open to all wireless carrier subscribers by texting BNA to 97979. Voting continues through the show, live on September 12.

Tim Burton Reuniting With ‘Ed Wood’ Writers For ‘Addams Family’

Team is also developing ‘Big Eyes,’ based on artist Margaret Keane and her portraits of big-eyed children. By Adam Rosenberg Tim Burton Photo: Tony Barson/ WireImage One of filmmaker Tim Burton’s strongest efforts of the past 30 years is, ironically, “Ed Wood,” a biopic charting the life of the famed director of 1959’s “Plan 9 From Outer Space,” a work widely regarded as the worst film of all time. It’s great then to see that Burton is reuniting with the writing team behind the 1994 release. Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski will join Burton in developing a script for the planned stop-motion adaptation of Charles Addams’ famed comic strip, “The Addams Family,” Deadline reports . Burton will also produce with Chris Meledandri for Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures. The same article reveals that Burton will also produce the writing duo’s fact-based drama “Big Eyes,” which is “based on artist Margaret Keane’s struggle to get credit for the line of paintings of big-eyed children that became wildly popular in the ’60s.” Alexander and Karaszewski wrote the script with the intent of directing themselves. The “Addams Family” news comes several months after reports surfaced that Burton would direct a 3-D stop-motion adaptation of the famed comic strip. In a statement made to MTV News at the time, Burton’s reps stated, “There is no truth to the story. Tim has not lined up any of his upcoming projects.” It was clear even then that Burton could settle on “Addams Family” next. He still could direct, too. Deadline reports that he will “direct a film that is one of the plum projects on Meledandri’s slate for Illumination,” which of course now includes “Addams Family.” “Big Eyes” came up while Burton was in discussions with Alexander and Karaszewski about the comic strip adaptation. “It turns out he’s a big fan of Margaret and has commissioned artwork from her,” Alexander told Deadline. It doesn’t hurt that the actual story is a remarkable truth-is-stranger-than-fiction tale. Walter Keane, Margaret’s husband, became a celebrity in the 1950s, riding a wave of success from his mass-produced prints of big-eyed children. Though the images bore his signature, Margaret was the one with an aptitude for making art. When the two eventually divorced and Margaret tried to make it known that she was the artist, Walter sued. The case that followed culminated in a dramatic showdown in which the judge ordered that two easels be set up in the courtroom, staging what essentially amounted to a paint-off. No release window is listed for either project, though IMDb’s listing for “Big Eyes” is labeled 2011. With the script already written, a budget that is reportedly “in the teens” and Burton producing, it is certainly possible that the Keane pic will be ready for next year. Chelsea Handler To Host The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards

VMAs air live from Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12, at 9 p.m. ET. By James Montgomery Chelsea Handler Photo: Getty Images The censors have been put on high alert, and the celebs have been given fair warning: Sardonic and sass-tacular comedian Chelsea Handler has been tapped to host the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards — airing live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12, at 9 p.m. ET — and things are probably gonna get a little raw. Handler — best known for her exploits on the outrageous late-night talk show “Chelsea Lately” and her three best-selling, brutally honest (and brutally funny) books — won’t pull any punches on VMA night. She’ll also be making a little history, becoming only the second woman to fly solo as VMA host and the first since 1994, back when Roseanne Barr lorded over the proceedings. She’ll join a rapidly growing roster of performers (including Kanye West , Florence and the Machine , B.o.B and Justin Bieber ) and presenters (Ke$ha, Nicki Minaj, Ashley Greene and Ne-Yo) for the big show. And more names are being added daily. While the stage will be overflowing with stars, the actual winners of the VMAs will be determined by you. T.I. Says He’s Basking In B.o.B’s Success

‘All the hard work is paying off,’ Tip says of his Grand Hustle artist and five-time VMA nominee. By Shaheem Reid T.I. and B.o.B Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ Getty Images T.I. says his camp has worked diligently, so it’s OK to celebrate now. On Monday in New York, the King of the South reflected on the success of his Grand Hustle roster member B.o.B. We all know about steadfast and patient. And Bobby Ray had to practice that virtue the past couple of years while he waited for the release of his debut LP. Everything has paid off though, as B.o.B scored two #1 hit singles, critical acclaim for his body of work and most recently, five VMA nominations. “I feel like right now, all the hard work is paying off,” Tip said about Bob. “This is what everybody has been working for. This is [why] we go late nights in the studio, early mornings in the studio. This is the reason we miss days out of our children’s lives — for moments like these. For me not to sit here, reap the benefits and take the pleasure as well as taking the moment to bask in the glory of the success of what we have accomplished … It’s necessary, very necessary.” B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You” is nominated for a VMA in the Best Pop Category while “Airplanes” is up for four Moonmen: Best Male Video, Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Collaboration and Video of the Year. “It’s very special to me,” the B.o.B said earlier this month. I think it’s a lot more special than the success of the singles, because this reflects the work I’ve put in over the years and the word of mouth I’ve helped create. It’s definitely amazing. I’m trying to find the words to explain it, but I can’t. It’s inexplicable. I’m a real simple man, so, you know, I accept every gift with generosity and gratitude.” What do you think about how Tip supports his Grand Hustle artist B.o.B? Tell us in the comments! The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for the winners in general categories, including Best New Artist, from now through September 12. It’s gonna be like that. “Some people wanna hear me go more ‘hood,” he added of the type of records up for consideration. “Some people think I should go ahead and do my regular one-two and let them come back to me.” Regardless of what new song the King of the South goes with, he already has ample music in the marketplace now. Fantasia Barrino Confirms Album Promotion, Thanks Fans for Support

Just a few days removed from a hospitalization for a rumored suicide attempt , Fantasia Barrino is getting back to work. The singer’s new album, “Back to Me,” comes out on Facebook and Amazon today, which means scheduled promotional appearances the artist will fulfill. In a statement, Fantasia says: “I can’t thank my fans enough for their prayers and support during such a challenging time. It has given me the motivation to get back to work and honor the commitments I made to promote Back To Me. I put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this album and I pray that everyone enjoys it as much as I do.” The challenging time to which Fantasia alludes is based around an alleged affair with Antwaun Cook, as well as a possible lawsuit from his spurned wife and the rumor of a sex tape between the couple. Over the weekend, Barrino and Cook were filmed together by a VH1 camera crew. This has caused many to speculate that the recent drama in the singer’s life has simply been concocted for Fantasia for Real , the reality show still set to premiere on September 19. We’ll leave that for readers to debate and simply say for now that Barrino’s promotional appearances kick off on August 24 on Good Morning America . She’ll then perform later in the month on Lopez Tonight , Live with Regis & Kelly and The Wendy Williams Show.

Rick Ross Talks T.I., Jadakiss, Erykah Badu Collabos

‘The time was right,’ Ross says of Tip lacing ‘Maybach Music III.’ By Shaheem Reid Rick Ross Photo: MTV News Earlier this week, Erykah Badu released a video for the remix of “Window Seat” that features Rick Ross. That collaboration led to the singer appearing on Ross’ song “Maybach Music III,” which appears on his acclaimed new album Teflon Don . “She never really collaborated with a lot of artists outside of Outkast,” Ross explained. “Maybe another artist or two, [like] the Roots. It was always conscious music she was making. You know, a gritty street artist — that’s always a plus when you get to work with somebody with the flowers around them and [they’re] burning incense. And it’s positive.” Ross was a longtime admirer of Badu’s work, which made the idea of working with her intriguing. “Her music always attracted me; it was always attractive to my kind of music,” he said. “Once we collaborated with the ‘Window Seat’ remix … the lanes of communication was open, I was like, ‘Let’s do something different.’ ” The track, which was produced by the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, also features T.I. and Jadakiss. “I felt the time was right for me and T.I. [to work together],” the Bawse explained. “We had never personally collaborated with each other on a record one on one. Early on in my career, I had said [negative] things when I didn’t know him. Just us being bosses and us being leaders and us being examples, we bossed up. We both did. He came from home doing what he did. I did my thing.” But as time passed, the animosity waned, and Ross asked Tip to collaborate. “Just on a mutual respect for each other, I reached out to him. When I got that verse back, I was like, ‘He meant that.’ We had been seeing each other over a period of time, saluting each other, bumping into each other, he knew I was a fan of his. We captured that moment in time which was one of the dopest records. And that meant the most to me. I used to play that T.I. verse in my studio, like, ‘This set the tone, right here. It set the tone.’ It just felt good for the homie to lace me. I salute Tip.” Ross brought Jadakiss, a longtime friend, on “Maybach” as well. “Jada was always that New York underdog,” he said. “That next lyricist. You could be the hottest at the time, but if you slippin’, Jada is one record away. He’s a cool dude, somebody I got a mutual respect and a friendship with.” This week, Ross released a new track online, “Summer’s Mine,” where he takes aim at his competition. “Bitch I run the south/ I’m what you wanna be,” he raps. “This how you wanna live/ This what you wanna drive/ Be honest with yourself/ I’m who you idolize.” What do you think of Ross’ “Maybach Music III”? How does it rank with the previous tracks? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Rick Ross (Hip-Hop) Erykah Badu Jadakiss T.I.
