Type O Negative’s Peter Steele Remembered As ‘Genius’ By Fans

Goth-metal frontman, who died Wednesday, pulled fans through ‘darkest days.’ By Kyle Anderson Peter Steele in 2007 Photo: Greetsia Tent/ Getty Images The sudden death of Type O Negative frontman Peter Steele has sent shockwaves through the metal community . The imposing, deep-voiced frontman for the Brooklyn goth-metal favorites left an impression not only on his bandmates and contemporaries, but also on his fans and followers, many of whom stormed the Web to express their sorrow and share memories. “I love Peter. He was so unique,” commenter Deborah wrote on MTV.com. “I loved his lyrics to his songs. I loved his sense of humor. He was so down to earth with his all fans.” Dan, another commenter, recognized Steele’s passion and said it came through his music. “Peter Steele changed my life. His tall frame and massive build was not what defined him; it was his voice and his passion for his music,” he wrote. “Type O Negative moved me in ways no music ever has. Peter Steele will be deeply missed, but his music will live on in my soul.”

Jay-Z To Perform On ‘SNL’ On May 8

Jigga and host Betty White make for an inspired ‘Saturday Night Live’ bill! By Jocelyn Vena Jay-Z Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images Fans are eager to see Betty White host “Saturday Night Live” on May 8, and now it seems that comedy’s most favorite OG will be joined by hip-hop’s biggest star: Jay-Z has been tapped as the musical guest for the show’s May 8 episode, according to multiple sources. Both will appear on the Mother’s Day episode, which will feature appearances by a number of female “SNL” vets including Tina Fey (who hosted the show last weekend with musical guest Justin Bieber), Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch. Jay-Z, who will headline Coachella on Friday night (April 16), has appeared as a musical guest on the show several times before, but this appearance will mark White’s first turn as “SNL” host. “Years ago, I turned it down three times,” said White, who’s been enjoying a career resurgence thanks to her role in “The Proposal” and her buzzed-about Super Bowl Snickers commercial from earlier this year. “It’s so New York, and I’m not New York at all. But my agent said he’d divorce me if I didn’t do it, and I love my agent. “It’s lovely, and at my age it’s certainly unexpected,” she added. “I’ve got so much energy, it’s ridiculous. I love working. My schedule is a feverish one, and I’m used to that.” In an interview with USA Today in March, “SNL” executive producer Lorne Michaels admits he “always wanted” White to host the late-night comedy program. “It took on a groundswell,” Michaels says of a Facebook campaign that began in response to White’s Super Bowl ad. “It isn’t something we would have said no to,” but the campaign “validated that — ‘Oh, that’d be fun.’ … It was the outpouring of affection from fans, and we feel the same way.” Are you pumped to see Jay-Z on “SNL” again? Mark Hoppus Talks Trousdale Press Project With All Time Low

‘We’re hoping to have the album tracking finished in the next two weeks,’ Blink-182 bassist tells MTV News. By James Montgomery Mark Hoppus Photo: Andrew Ross Rowe/ MTV News Earlier this week, All Time Low took to their Twitter account to let fans know that they were logging some studio time with Mark Hoppus . It was an announcement that was greeted with much enthusiasm from the band’s fans, though it wasn’t exactly surprising. After all, All Time Low recorded a song with Hoppus in the lead-up to their last album, Nothing Personal, and though the track didn’t make the final cut, Hopp took it in stride, making a cameo in the band’s video for the first single, “Weightless.” And days after Personal bowed at #4 on the Billboard albums chart, frontman Alex Gaskarth told MTV News that they definitely planned on re-teaming with Hoppus in the future, and promised that the song they had previously recorded would “definitely come out someday.” And it looks like Gaskarth is a man of his word. Because when they got together earlier this week, Hoppus and ATL weren’t working on something for the follow-up to Nothing Personal. Instead, they were finishing up that mysterious track for inclusion on an equally mysterious project Hoppus is calling Trousdale Press. And that’s straight from the man himself. “We worked together on a song for their last record that they did not end up using. It’s a great song, and has just been laying dormant for the past year,” Hoppus told MTV News in an e-mail. “While Blink-182 has been on down time before the European tour and album recording, I’ve been in the studio with a bunch of friends working on a project called Trousdale Press. Alex and Jack came down yesterday and we finished up that track. It’s a rocker.” Hoppus wouldn’t reveal any other details about the song, or Trousdale Press, (though he did mention the latter in a Tweet on Tuesday but, from the sound of things, the project is close to being finished. “We’re hoping to have the album tracking finished in the next two weeks,” he wrote. “I’m sure there will be a full press thing that you’ll be sent in the near future, but that’s the basics of the thing.” Related Artists Mark Hoppus All Time Low

T.I. Announces Album Title, Preps New Mixtape With DJ Drama

‘I think this is going to be exciting for the streets,’ Drama says. By Shaheem Reid T.I. and DJ Drama Photo: Atlantic T.I. has feen finalizing plans for the release of latest round of music. The Grammy Award-winning MC announced Thursday (April 15) via his Web site that the title of August 24 LP will be King Uncaged. And on Wednesday, Tip released a promo trailer for an upcoming mixtape he has with DJ Drama and DJ MLK, one in the Gangsta Grillz series called F— a Mixtape. While some were confused by the title, rest assured that all parties involved are not turning their backs on the mixtape circuit — after all, the project is a mixtape and both Drama and MLK have several other mixtapes with various other artists on deck in the coming weeks. But Drama declined to elaborate on the meaning behind the title. “Take it how you wanna take it,” Drama, who describes the quality of King Uncaged as being so dope it’s “ridiculous,” said about any controversy the name has caused. “I’mma let Tip explain.” However, Drama did say that he was one of the people championing Tip’s return to the circuit. “We been talking about it for a minute — a long time,” Dram said. “It’s been quite a while since Tip has a done a Gangsta Grillz. I guess The Leak was the last one. When Tip first got home, I had the conversation with him. ‘You home, Gangsta Grillz as a brand is still as hot as it ever was, almost helping breathe back life into the mixtape game. I think it will be right to come back full circle to where you are, to where the brand is.’ That’s how the conversation started.” The tape is around 80 percent done and going through some tweaks. It’s almost all original material thus far. “I’m about to go in and see if I can get Tip to murder a couple of people’s beats real quick,” he continued. “I’m gonna get on his head about that, but for the most part, all original material.” Tip and his P$C family earned status as underground heroes with their In Da Streets series. “Right up there with it,” Drama said of how the new project compares to the classics. “Right up there with it. I think this is going to be exciting for the streets. It’s a lot of sh– that is ’24s’-type Tip. Tip is like a f—ing superstar right now. He makes a lot of big records with a lot of worldly feels — but they gonna love this in Zone One.” Are you looking forward to T.I.’s new album? Let us know in the comments below! Peter Steele, Type O Negative Singer, Dead At 48

Singer reportedly died of heart failure, according to manager. By Gil Kaufman Type O Negative’s Peter Steele Photo: Paul Bergen/ Redferns Peter Steele of heavy metal band Type O Negative has died of heart failure at age 48. Steele (born Petrus Ratajczyk), the burly 6’7″ bassist and lead vocalist of the Brooklyn goth-metal band, formed Type O in the early ’90s after stints in several other groups, including the hardcore act Carnivore. A spokesperson for Type O bandmates Kenny Hickey and Johnny Kelly confirmed the sad news to MTV News. And according to CBS News , band manager Mike Renault sent an e-mail saying, “Peter passed away last night. As of now it appears to have been heart failure. That’s all the details we have right now.” The band’s most recent label, SPV/Steamhammer Records, reportedly issued an online statement about Steele’s passing. “It’s with great sadness that we give our condolences to the family and friends of Peter Steele,” it read. “He died on April 14th, 2010. With his bands Carnivore and Type O Negative he achieved cult status and was loved by fans around the world. … The world has lost a charismatic frontman and a very talented person. Our condolences go to Peter’s family, friends and the members of his bands.” Fuse metal hostess Mistress Juliya (Juliya Chernetsky) tweeted about the news on Wednesday. “Today is a very sad day in metal … end of an era … Peter Steele passed today,” she wrote. “I loved my friend … our idol … my heart is with his band and family.” Blabbermouth.com , a site run by the band’s former label , Roadrunner Records, also reported that Type O keyboardist Josh Silver had confirmed that Steele died on Wednesday. A rumor circulated that Steele had died in 2005, but that turned out to be a publicity stunt to promote their new record, making it difficult to assess the validity of this latest report. The earlier rumor sprung from an image of a tombstone with his name and the dates 1962-2005 that was briefly posted on the band’s Web site but then removed. Steele reportedly suffered from clinical depression, reflected in the band’s doom-laden lyrics, dark image and an often morbid sense of humor. Type O released seven studio albums, with their most recent being 2007’s Dead Again. Related Artists Type O Negative

By Jocelyn Vena Sammi Sweatheart, Snooki and J-Woww at the Harper’s Bazaar photo shoot Photo: Harper’s Bazaar When the May issue of Harper’s Bazaar hits newsstands on April 27, you will be able to read about the girls of “Jersey Shore” getting tips on how to be ladylike from one of Manhattan’s preeminent socialites, Tinsley Mortimer. But we will show you what happened while the girls were getting class lessons. In behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot, the ladies are seen getting pretty and listening while Mortimer schools them on the fine art of being a celebutante. However, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi made it known that she’d already had some training. “Well, I used to take etiquette school. I know a couple things already — I just haven’t been using them,” she said. “I’d say I definitely have a lot more female friends just because I guess they look up to me or whatever. I’m a strong person and I have a strong personality.” Jenni “JWoww” Farley also divulged that, like Snooki, she’s well-versed in the world of etiquette. “I know them pretty well, the lessons that they are giving,” she explained, adding that if someone doesn’t like who she is, it’s their problem. “We’re not trying to mimic anyone. We can’t make everyone happy.” “I feel like I already know how to be a lady,” Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola added. “I find I have a lot of young girls who really look up to me and talk to me. They’re more my fans.” So what was it like for a refined woman like Mortimer to hang out with party girls from the Jersey Shore? She was actually quite excited by it. “Oh my god! It’s like a dream come true,” she raved. “I’m obsessed with those girls.” Related Photos The ‘Jersey Shore’ Ladies Get A Makeover

Madonna Gives Props To ‘Glee’ Episode

Material Girl thinks one character in particular is ‘very cute.’ By Jocelyn Vena Madonna Photo: James Devaney/ WireImage Not only is Madonna excited to have her songs used in next week’s “Power of Madonna” episode of “Glee,” she is also apparently hot for teacher. “I think Mr. Schuester is very cute,” Madonna said in a statement, referring to Matthew Morrison, who plays the glee-club instructor on the hit Fox show. “And I’m glad he’s doing such a good job empowering all the girls.” In the episode, according to Fox, Mr. Schuester assigns the kids to sing Madonna songs because he thinks the girls have been mistreated by the boys. He wants them all to benefit from the girl-power messages in tracks like “Express Yourself.” “Like a Prayer,” “Like a Virgin” and “4 Minutes” are also covered in the episode. Following this Tuesday’s spring premiere of “Glee,” Fox aired a shot-by-shot reenactment of Madge’s iconic “Vogue” clip, starring Sue Sylvester (played by Jane Lynch), Mercedes (Amber Riley) and Kurt (Chris Colfer). Lynch told MTV News about how empowering she found it to cover Madonna. “Oh, yeah, the cone bra, the Gaultier bra, I wear that in one scene. And it’s the most powerful I’ve ever felt in my life,” she dished. “Well, you know what, I wore the cone bra with the track suit, so it worked. It was a win, win.” Which song are you most looking forward to seeing in the “Glee” Madonna episode? Tell us in the comments! Related Videos It’s The Return Of ‘Glee’!
