‘Glee’ Cast Goes (Lady) Gaga At Spring Premiere Party

‘I can tell you I am not going to be wearing the crime scene tape,’ Cory Monteith joked about ‘Glee’ Lady Gaga episode. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Audrey Kim Dianna Agron and Cory Monteith at the “Glee” spring premiere Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images While fans are raving about the season premiere of “Glee” and the cast have even hinted at some relationship shakeups this time around, it was the upcoming Lady Gaga episode that had the cast talking at Monday’s premiere party in Los Angeles. “Her music and her influence on pop music right now, it’s so well expressed by ‘Glee.’ The way that that episode goes with Lady Gaga’s music is amazing,” actor Cory Monteith shared with MTV News. “We’re just in the midst of filming it right now and I can’t wait for you to see it. I can tell you I am not going to be wearing the crime scene tape.” Cast member Amber Riley revealed that the dancing will be pretty sweet in the episode. “We just did Gaga today,” she said. “We did one of the dance numbers today and I had so much fun. I didn’t want it to end.” Chris Colfer tweeted about getting the chance to wear Gaga’s signature sky-high heels, and pics of him dressed in a dress similar to the one that she wore in her “Bad Romance” video appeared on PerezHilton.com . He admits he’s lucky he didn’t get seriously injured. “Quite a process today dancing our Lady Gaga number in the 10-inch heels. But thankfully I didn’t injure myself, which is really surprising since I injure myself, like, standing up in rehearsals,” he joked. “So I’m very thankful I didn’t have to go to the ER again.” And Colfer wasn’t the only fellow who had trouble imitating Gaga. Kevin McHale explained, “The guys do their thing. Not all the guys can pull of Gaga. I can’t give anything away. We were filming some of the Gaga episode earlier today. It’s insane and the outfits are incredible and almost exactly true to the real Gaga outfits. I can’t wait for people to see it.” Co-star Naya Rivera summed up the Gaga episode this way: “Best episode we’ve ever shot, in my opinion,” she raved. “I’ve had so much fun. Our outfits are nuts. It’s so fun and the songs are so great. We all look great.” Are you looking forward to the Lady Gaga “Glee” episode? Tell us in the comments! Nicki Minaj Is ‘Real Creative,’ Producer Alex Da Kid Says

‘She’s one of the top people I wanted to work with,’ the beatsmith says about the Young Money MC. By Shaheem Reid Nicki Minaj Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images Nicki Minaj ‘s “Massive Attack” producer Alex Da Kid — who has also worked with Rihanna, Rob Thomas, Jazmine Sullivan and B.o.B — said you can expect more collaborations between him and the Young Money MC. “She wants to be an artist like a Rihanna or a Lady Gaga that translates all over the world,” Kid told MTV News about Minaj’s aspirations. “She’s dope. She’s super creative,” he continued. “She knows what she likes to hear. I’ll put a idea down [and] she’ll be like, ‘I like that idea. I don’t like that idea.’ We’ll just go back and forth. You get in the studio with some artists and they don’t know what they want until they hear it. She understands production. She’s dope. She’s easy to work with. She’s very cool. She’s got this cute thing, but at the same time she’s kinda grimy and ghetto. I really like it. She’s out here. She’s real creative and she’s one of the top people I wanted to work with. I think she’s dope.” Alex said songwriter Sean Garrett presented her with the beat to “Massive Attack” around four months ago and she immediately fell in love with it. Some other artists wanted the beat but both Alex and Sean agreed Nicki would do it justice. ” ‘Massive Attack’ … I’m kinda mobile. I make a living on my laptop,” he explained. “Any time a idea hits me, I put it down. I started that track on the train going to the studio. I don’t generally do that. I always kinda wait, but I had a melody idea. So I started on the train and finished in the studio. I knew it was special from the start. It wasn’t like I was aiming for Nicki with this track; I had a idea I thought was crazy. Nicki heard it and the rest was history. “With all my stuff, I base everything in hip-hop,” he added. “I been listening to hip-hop since I was 2 or 3. I try and broaden everything. I love all types of music and I do everything. I do rock, I do pop. Everything I do is based in hip-hop — that’s the foundation.” Alex produced B.o.B’s “Airplanes” single (featuring Paramore’s Hayley Williams and Eminem ) and has some beats for Rihanna, Estelle and Young Jeezy on deck as well. “I was in with Jeezy in Miami. Jeezy is hilarious. I been a fan. I had appreciation of him but he’s so open and so cool —” he’s another one that knows what he likes to hear.” Who would you like to hear Alex Da Kid work with next? Ryan Tedder Doesn’t ‘Remember’ Telling Lady Gaga To ‘Be Careful’

But the OneRepublic singer does say that, as an artist, ‘you gotta take care of your health first.’ By James Montgomery, with reporting by Akshay Bhansali OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder and Eddie Fisher Photo: MTV News Here’s the thing about OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder’s recent comments about Lady Gaga in People magazine: He doesn’t remember actually making them, but that doesn’t mean he’s backing down from them either. A quick refresher: Late last month, after footage surfaced of Gaga nearly collapsing onstage during a concert in New Zealand (an incident she chalked up to “jet lag”), Tedder supposedly told People that he was concerned for LG’s health. “Gaga has to be careful,” he was quoted as saying. “She’s already larger than life. How do you get larger than that?” It seemed like a fairly harmless comment, though as it began to make its way around various gossip sites, all of that changed. When MTV News spoke to Tedder and his OneRepublic mates last week, we decided to ask him to clarify his statement. And, as it turns out, he did a lot more than that. “I’ve had two or three people ask me about that, and I had friends who picked up People magazine last week or the week before, and they’re like, ‘You’re in People, someone asked you about Lady Gaga,’ ” Tedder said. “I don’t even remember saying that. To be honest, I don’t even know that I did. ” At press time, a rep for People had not responded to MTV News’ request for comment. While Tedder doesn’t recall saying he was concerned about Gaga’s health, he freely admits that he is. After all, he’s been through the wringer a time or two and knows how taxing and tormenting it can be, and he doesn’t want to see Gaga go down the same path he did. “I’ve only met her once, but I had, like, a two-hour conversation with her nonstop the first time that I hung out with her, right before ‘Just Dance’ came out, and thought she was the coolest, smartest [person]. I was like, ‘God, she’s got her crap together.’ She was legit,” he said. “So I don’t know her, I don’t pretend like I know her, but the fact that I, for a moment, connected with her humanity, and I know how hard we work, and I know the schedule after ‘Apologize’ blew up … the longest stretch of time we were home in a row, for about 13 months, was two and a half days. And that can push you to a brink, where your job becomes who you are, and you end up reaching a breaking point, where all of a sudden you hate it, and you just want to quit. “Or you get sick — we pushed it so hard earlier this year, we were touring with Rob Thomas, and every single day was ‘show, promo/press during the day, show that night,’ and I lost my voice and got swine flu,” Tedder continued. “And the doctor was like, ‘Look, I’ve dealt with a lot of you artists. I’ve had Kanye in here, I’ve had R. Kelly, I’ve had all these different people come through my office. … If you don’t slow down, your body will shut you down completely.’ And so, if you’re collapsing onstage, I don’t care how much money [you have] or how much you love your ‘Little Monsters,’ you gotta take care of your health first. For anybody. For us. I mean, we’ve had to slow down.” So while Tedder isn’t trying to preach, he just hopes Gaga will slow things down a bit. But, knowing her reputation, he’s not sure she will. “My hat goes off to her. Nobody works harder than Lady Gaga. Nobody. She is unbelievable. I don’t know how she sleeps, or when or if,” he said. “But I know people who work with her, and they’re like, ‘She is the most dedicated, committed, hardworking person around.’ ” To be honest, Tedder isn’t even upset that something he may (or may not) have actually said has gotten twisted up. Far from it. If anything, he’s sort of used to it by now. “I’ve had different quotes. Like, something involving Simon Cowell a long time ago, and the British press got a hold of it, and it was like me and Simon were fighting,” he said. “And then something recently about me ripping on a producer that did our first album, which never happened. It’s just funny.” What do you think about Ryan’s explanation? Do you think Gaga should take it easy? Let us know in the comments! 30 Seconds To Mars Call Into The Wild Tour ‘A New Beginning’

‘It’s a massive celebration for us and our fans,’ Jared Leto says. By James Montgomery 30 Seconds to Mars Photo: EMI Music They just wrapped their first-ever run of arena shows in Europe, shot a combat-themed music video for “This Is War” and kicked off the U.S. leg of their Into the Wild tour . So why, with so much forward momentum, does Jared Leto consider everything 30 Seconds to Mars are doing to be a gigantic step back to square one? “I’ve said this before, but the most exciting thing about being in this band right now, is that it feels like the beginning again. Making this album, we rediscovered ourselves, and we emerged as something different,” Leto told MTV News. “We did the tour of Europe, which was a new beginning for us, and now, we’re touring America. And to have not toured here in three years, it’s a massive celebration for us and our fans. We feel like we’re beginning the journey again, here in this country.” The journey actually began on Friday in Las Vegas, when 30STM launched their Into the Wild trek at the Palms Casino Resort’s Pearl Theater. The tour will crisscross the country until mid-May, at which point the band will actually take about a month of before heading back to Europe for the summer fest circuit) — though, as Leto points out, they’re not taking a break willingly. “We’re just really excited, and we don’t want to stop,” he laughed. “This band is never exhausted. We’ve been able to play the songs on [ This Is War ] for audiences in Europe, and now we’re getting to play them for fans here. And right now, that’s what’s most exciting … to have people hear it and experience it.” And just what can fans expect on the U.S. leg of Into the Wild? Leto’s not saying. You’ve got to come out and see the show for yourself. “Like I said, it’s a celebration, it’s emotional, it’s a big, loud show,” he explained. “But, really, you’ve got to come out and see it. That’s the best way to put it.” Are you going to see 30 Seconds to Mars on tour this spring? What song are you looking forward to hearing live? Share your excitement below! Train’s Pat Monahan Salutes Miranda Lambert On #MusicMonday

San Francisco band’s frontman has ‘The House That Built Me’ on heavy rotation. By Kyle Anderson, with reporting by Matt Elias Train Photo: MTV News Before the release of their latest album Save Me, San Francisco , Train went on a three-year hiatus. While many groups have trouble getting back on the horse after spending time apart, the San Francisco-based band hasn’t missed a beat, and their current single, “Hey, Soul Sister,” sits at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s the most successful song of their long career (which has also included the smash hits “Meet Virginia” and “Drops of Jupiter”), and it earned them a #MusicMonday shout-out a few weeks ago from Orianthi . Train have always had a healthy country influence in their sound, but Save Me, San Francisco has a tremendous amount of twang and heartbreak. That’s probably why frontman Pat Monahan has been spinning one of country music’s biggest divas at the moment. “The song I’m into right now is Miranda Lambert’s ‘The House That Built Me,’ ” Monahan told MTV News on the set of Train’s new video, which is being directed by former Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz . “I just think it’s a really amazing song and a super-great record. If she wants to do a ‘Crossroads’ with us, call me up!” “The House That Built Me” comes from Lambert’s latest album Revolution and is not only steadily climbing up the Billboard Country chart but also up the Hot 100. The track was written by Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin, who between them have written hits for Lady Antebellum, Martina McBride and Bonnie Raitt. Perhaps Monahan is trying to expand his horizons through collaboration, as he is already working with INXS on an album that will re-imagine that band’s classic hits with new singers, a roster that also includes Rob Thomas and the Killers’ Brandon Flowers. Drake’s ‘Over’ Video Shows Struggle Between ‘My Past Life And This New Life’

New video shows Drake torn between a wholesome beauty and a seductive dancer. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Rahman Dukes Drake in his “Over” music video Photo: Universal Motown/ Young Money No more waiting; the video for Drake’s “Over” has finally arrived premiered on Vevo Monday morning (April 12). The clip starts off with Drake, dressed in white, sitting in a room on a bed, reflecting on how his life his now. Images of explosions and time-lapsed cityscapes are projected on him and the wall of the room. From there, he launches into a heavy performance. “This is my first video,” Drake said on the set of “Over” in early March, though he’s made clips for “Successful,” “Best I Ever Had” and some of his guest stints. “I’ve shot a lot of videos before, but this is my first attempt to establish myself as Drake the artist. Shooting the other videos I’ve done has been great. I really don’t care what other people think about them, they were great experiences for me. I’ve learned a lot from them. Today, I’m shooting with somebody I really look up to and respect. I’m shooting with Anthony Mandler. “We talked colors, we talked epic, emotion-evoking visuals,” he added. “The story is actually interesting. The song is so aggressive, and it’s sort of a love story in the video. It has a lot to do with the album [ Thank Me Later ]. The album is about finding love, feeling, ‘Have I sold my soul?’ as far as, ‘Will I ever be able to gain the trust of a woman? Will I only be able to be around the dark, evil women? Will I ever find that pure love?’ Those elements are in the video. I look strong, I feel great, my knee’s feeling great . I’m jumping around, doing all kinds of stuff.” Toward the end of the video, it looks like Drake has to choose between two beautiful women. One, played by Roc Nation singer Rita Ora, looks like a more wholesome girl, while the other lady looks more dangerous as she dances provocatively in the background. “It takes the song to another place,” Drake said of the video last week on the night on the opening night of his Away From Home Tour . “It offers up a whole different look for the song. The song — to a lot of people — is ignorant, it’s club. This video is what I was really thinking about. The song is like a bad dream — but it’s not a bad dream, it’s not a terrible dream. It’s a little evil. The video really reflects that. It’s a struggle between the purities of my past life and what this new life has to offer. Even in the video, you see me looking back and forth between the two and deciding. At the end of the video I don’t necessarily make a decision, but when you get the album, you’ll see what choice I make.” Related Artists Drake

Shakira Meets With Haitian Earthquake Survivors

Colombian singer finds site for her planned school for displaced and orphaned children. By Gil Kaufman Shakira Photo: CBS More than three months after a massive earthquake devastated Haiti, pop singer Shakira visited the island on Sunday to make good on her pledge to build a school for the island nation’s children. Looking for a suitable site for the school for needy children to be built by her Pies Descalzos (Barefoot) Foundation in the capital of Port-au-Prince, The Associated Press reported that Shakira touched down on a golf course that has become a makeshift camp for more than 50,000 homeless quake survivors. In addition to greeting fans and infants living at the Petionville Golf Club, Shakira met with actor Sean Penn, who has been working on disaster relief on the island since the quake struck on January 12. Shakira, who took part in MTV’s Hope for Haiti Now telethon in January, met with 100 children at the site of her Barefoot Haiti school, an offshoot of her foundation’s efforts in Colombia, where the organization provides nutrition, education and psychological support to more than 6,000 children displaced by violence. “We’ve come to make all the preparations to be able to start the building of a Barefoot school here in Haiti,” Shakira told Reuters about her latest effort. “We think we can employ what we’ve learned [in Colombia] here, apply it in this country which needs it so much at the moment.” With a potential 300,000 people killed and more than a million left homeless, many of them young orphans, the Haitian earthquake is considered one of the worst natural disasters in modern history. The singer said she believes that providing education to the many displaced and orphaned Haitian children is a key part of the reconstruction efforts. “We need to think about the future of this country and of how Haiti’s children can be useful to their societies tomorrow,” she said. “Education is one of the fundamental tools with which to develop and rebuild Haiti.” Learn more about what you can do to help with earthquake-relief efforts in Haiti , and for more information, go to Think MTV .
