Justin Timberlake To Introduce ‘Summit On The Summit: Kilimanjaro’

Documentary airs Sunday at 9 p.m. on MTV. By Eric Ditzian Justin Timberlake Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images Earlier this year, Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch, Lupe Fiasco , Santigold and others banded together to climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness about the global clean-water crisis. Now Justin Timberlake has pitched in to support the effort. The singer is set to provide a personal introduction to “Summit on the Summit: Kilimanjaro,” the 90-minute documentary about the celebrities’ climb that will air on MTV on March 14 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Masterminded by Grammy-nominated musician Kenna, the team took a six-day, 50-mile trek to the peak of the tallest mountain in Africa. “It was a combination of the mental and the psychological aspects of the mountain, of the slow-but-steady pace that you had to go up it, and that sometimes made your brain just want to explode, because you just wanted to get there so badly,” Biel told MTV News Wednesday. “But then you’d get this rush of inspiration of ‘I’m not doing this for me. I’m doing this for something bigger than me, for people who don’t have a voice, for people that need water around the world,’ and then you’d power through.” In addition to raising awareness about the clean-water crisis, the “Summit on the Summit” raises funds for P&G’s Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program , United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and Water For People’s PlayPumps Technology . During the MTV broadcast, viewers will be able to text SEND to 90999 to donate $10 to the U.N. Foundation on behalf of “Summit on the Summit.” Each donation will send 1,000 liters of clean water to people in need. “MTV has a long history of educating its audience to raise awareness on issues that are important to them,” said Dave Sirulnick, Executive Vice President, News and Docs. “More than 1 billion people worldwide do not have access to safe, clean drinking water. By airing this documentary, MTV hopes to mobilize a new generation of young people who may not be aware of this global cause and take action to get involved in helping find solutions to the water crisis.” Don’t miss “Summit on the Summit: Kilimanjaro,” airing Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on MTV. T-Pain Says He And Jay-Z Buried The Hatchet At The Grammys

‘We shook hands, did the little chest bump,’ he tells MTV News of their heart-to-heart about Auto-Tune. T-Pain Photo: MTV News The Jay-Z and T-Pain saga has officially been laid to rest. When Pain stood onstage with Jay over the summer at the Hot 97 Summer Jam concert, people thought Pain was in support of the Hov’s “D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune).” Jay even said he wasn’t dissing Pain on the track, rather people who were trying to take away from Pain, Kanye West and Lil Wayne by saturating the market with Auto-Tune. Last September, though, during a Las Vegas pool party, Pain grabbed the microphone and dissed Jay-Z, implying he was old and out of touch. Later that month, Pain apologized to Jay on a record called “More Careful.” Well, Pain said he and Jay finally talked face to face last month about their controversy. “We talked at the Grammys,” Pain told MTV News last week. “It was a pretty big thing. Word for word, he said, ‘That’s f—ed up the way you took that song.’ I’m a [crazy] n—a, so we gonna take the song like that. That’s how we take songs. He was like, ‘I didn’t mean nothing by that.’ I was like, ‘I already put out my apology song. So there you go. My bad. I apologize. Apologize for taking the song like that.’ We shook hands, did the little chest bump. That was the end of that.” Pain is preparing to put out his next album, Revolver, later this year. It features some of his familiar hallmarks: Auto-Tune and “a lot of sex and alcohol. That’s a main topic,” he said. One thing he won’t have this time is a lot of guest spots. “I had to slow down on guest appearances, because a lot of people were saying that Thr33 Ringz was only as good as it was because it had a lot of people on there. I just wanted to prove some people wrong. I wanted to test myself to see if that was the case. It was so many people on the last album, it should have been a DJ Khaled album.” Related Artists T-Pain Jay-Z

Lady Antebellum Take Back Top Billboard Spot From Sade

‘American Idol’ finalist Danny Gokey debuts at #4. By Gil Kaufman Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now Photo: Liberty After a three-week run at the top, Sade ‘s Soldier of Love will be replaced at #1 on the Billboard albums chart by the very album she vanquished last month, Lady Antebellum ‘s Need You Now. The country trio’s second CD will retake the top spot thanks to sales of 126,000, while Sade will drop down a spot after moving 79,000 more units for sales of nearly 900,000 in four weeks, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. Though he sold a bit less than Kris Allen did in his first week, last season’s #4 finisher on “American Idol,” Danny Gokey , had a solid debut at #4 (65,000) with My Best Days a week after appearing on the show; Allen’s self-titled album debuted at #11 on sales of 70,000 in November. Also breaking into the top five was country star Blake Shelton , whose Hillbilly Bone landed at #3 (71,000). The soundtrack to Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” re-imagining, Almost Alice — featuring songs from Avril Lavigne, the All-American Rejects, Owl City, Tokio Hotel and All Time Low — sold 58,000 copies to debut at #5, followed by the latest from rockers Lifehouse , Smoke & Mirrors (#6, 54,000). The third album from R&B singer Raheem DeVaughn , The Love & War MasterPeace, debuted at #9 (45,000), just ahead of country newbie Easton Corbin ‘s self-titled debut (#10, 43,000). The only holdovers in the top 10 were Lady Gaga ‘s unstoppable The Fame (#7, 49,000), which is zeroing in on 3 million in sales, and the Black Eyed Peas ‘ The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) (#8, 46,000). Just outside the top 10, Jason Derulo ‘s self-titled debut hit #11 on sales of 42,000. As he begins his one-year prison sentence , Lil Wayne ‘s Rebirth will fall six spots to #12 (32,000), just ahead of Ke$ha ‘s Animal, which drops six to #13 (30,000) as sales approach half a million. Also falling out of the top 10 is Justin Bieber ‘s My World (27,000), which slid five spots to #15. Among the other debuts this week: DJ Khaled ‘s Victory (#14, 28,000), Peter Gabriel ‘s covers album, Scratch My Back (#26, 20,000) and a live album from long-running shamrock punks Flogging Molly , Live at the Greek Theatre (#40, 13,000). Meanwhile, showing the power of another amazing viral video, OK Go ‘s Of the Blue Colour of the Sky moved back onto the lower reaches of the charts to #179 after six weeks out of the top 200 thanks to the massive coverage of their Rube Goldberg-ian clip for “This Too Shall Pass.” Look for a shakeup at the top next week as new albums from Gorillaz , Ludacris and country singer Gary Allan crash the charts. DMX Arrested For Violating Probation

Sheriff said rapper repeatedly violated probation by using illegal drugs. By Gil Kaufman DMX (file) Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage Troubled rapper DMX was arrested on Tuesday in Arizona for five counts of violating his probation on drug charges. According to Phoenix ABC affiliate KNXV , X (born Earl Simmons), was picked up by the Adult Probation Office after admitting to using illegal drugs over the past nine months. “He admitted to using cocaine, so he’s back in our jail,” said Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. “I think it’s about time to give him hard time.” The get-tough sheriff said if the rapper is serious about kicking his drug habit, the Arizona jail system — where X has already logged time on animal cruelty and drug possession charges — could help him get clean. “We do have a great drug prevention program in the jail, so if he stays in our jail system I will consider (letting) him go through our program,” Arpaio said. In June, DMX, 39, was sentenced to more than a year of probation after pleading guilty in May to attempted aggravated assault for throwing a food tray at a jail officer, an incident that occurred while X was in jail serving a 90-day sentence for felony theft, drug possession and animal cruelty. According to a Reuters report, the rapper told his probation officer that he’d been regularly using illegal drugs over the past nine months and had not complied with the terms of his treatment plan. X was given 18 months of supervised probation and ordered to pay fines upon his release in May. Arpaio said after arresting DMX five times, he’s eager to see the rapper do some serious time in an Arizona jail. A spokesperson for DMX could not be reached for comment at press time. While on probation, X played one chaotic live show in Colorado that ended in a reported near riot, booked and then backed out of an MMA fight in December (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1625835/20091109/dmx.jhtml) and was reported to be working on new music that Swizz Beatz said could fuel his long-rumored comeback . Notorious B.I.G. And Tupac’s Famous Freestyle Remembered By Mister Cee

DJ looks back on ‘one of the illest live hip-hop performances of all time.’ By Shaheem Reid Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Photo: MTV News One of the greatest freestyles in hip-hop history took place at, of all places, a Patti LaBelle concert. The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur came onstage together in New York for a legendary performance. DJ Mister Cee tells the story as if it were yesterday. “That was live at Madison Square Garden,” Cee said in Brooklyn, minutes from where Biggie grew up in Bedford-Stuyvesant. “It was a concert me and [Big Daddy] Kane did for the Budweiser Superfest back in 1993 at Madison Square Garden. We were the only rap group on the show. I think Patti LaBelle was on the show, Tony! Toni! Ton

Lil Wayne: A Closer Look At His First Day Behind Bars

‘The best thing to do in the first 24 hours is to keep your mouth shut as much as possible,’ one expert says. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: Andy Kropa/ Getty Images Lil Wayne has been booked and processed into the Eric M. Taylor Center on Rikers Island to begin his one-year jail sentence . According to most experts, the first 24 hours are the most crucial to ensuring a successful incarceration. Dr. Jefferey Ian Ross, a faculty member at the University of Baltimore’s Criminology Division, advises that the superstar MC keep to himself as he gets adjusted to his new surroundings. “Most of the time, the best thing to do in the first 24 hours is to keep your mouth shut as much as possible,” Ross told MTV News. “Keep your eyes open and basically do as you’re told by the correction officers. Essentially, you shouldn’t look at other inmates in the eye, ’cause to a lot of people, that may be considered an aggressive type of action. Also, don’t look at their property, because they may feel like that’s aggressive as well and that you want their property.” Ross, who wrote the book “Behind Bars: Surviving Prison” along with Stephen C. Richards, explained that most inmates are housed with similar offenders, but there are instances were prisoners get bored and lash out. For these reasons, it’s important for someone like Lil Wayne, a celebrity, to maintain as normal of a disposition as he can. “Say ‘yes sir,’ ‘no sir,’ no cutting in line,” Ross said. “Don’t act like you have special privileges.” Unlike NFL star-turned-inmate Plaxico Burress, Lil Wayne shunned a jail coach or a sentencing specialist. Ross said that decision put Wayne at a disadvantage, because some benefits include assistance in building a network within the prison facilities. Sentencing coaches, in some cases, are previously jailed people who can connect incoming inmates with those they can trust inside. According to Ross, Lil Wayne will eventually have to venture out from his own connections. But in the interim, Ross suggested the old adage that prisoners need to just “do their time.” “Keep your mouth shut, keep your eyes open, be respectful — not only to correction officers, but to inmates,” he said. “And don’t be a snitch and don’t complain about the housing accommodations, follow those rules and they call that ‘do your own time.’ “It’s not easy,” Ross added. “Criminals don’t face a cakewalk, [regardless of the length of their sentence]. Their liberties and choices are taken away from them, and they’re basically at the will of prison.” Related Videos Lil Wayne Goes To Jail: Celebs React Lil Wayne’s ‘Road To Rikers’ Related Photos Lil Wayne Heads To Rikers Island Related Artists Lil Wayne

Joel Madden And Nicole Richie Planning Wedding ‘At Our Own Pace’

‘I couldn’t give you a timeline,’ Good Charlotte frontman says of plans for the big day. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Joel Madden and Nicole Richie Photo: Jeff Vespa/ WireImage Two kids and several years into their relationship, Joel Madden finally put a ring on it and popped the question to Nicole Richie. But Madden said the happy couple is in no great rush to the altar &#8212 these two do everything on their own time. “Yeah, we’re engaged! I finally did it!” he told MTV News on the red carpet at the Oscars, where he was the DJ for the big show. “You know what? Just like the engagement [we’re not rushing anything]. I mean, we had two kids before we got engaged, so getting married — I couldn’t give you a timeline. We kind of move at our own pace, so we’ll see.” The pair first announced they were engaged last month after Madden tweeted the good news . “Yep. I’m engaged. Very happy,” Madden, who has a daughter, Harlow, and son, Sparrow, with Richie, tweeted in a post that has since been deleted, but not before the news was picked up everywhere. “Yeah, we’ve been engaged for a while, so you’re all kind of late on that. But thanks for the hoopla all the same.” Richie also announced the news on “The Late Show with David Letterman” around the same time that Madden made the Twitter announcement. “We actually recently are engaged, yes,” Richie confirmed. “You are engaged?” Letterman responded to the news, “Oh, congratulations, that’s nice … a lot of people will have children and then they don’t want to rush right into the marriage — you know, they wait till the kids get out of college, then they get married,” the talk-show host joked. Lil Wayne Fans Say They Already Miss Jailed MC

‘I hope he gets out early!’ one MTV News reader says as Wayne begins prison term. By MTV News Staff Lil Wayne Photo: Louis Lanzano/AP Shortly after Lil Wayne turned himself in to serve his yearlong prison sentence, the superstar MC’s absence could be felt, both online — where Weezy had been busy tweeting and posting videos in recent weeks — and on the street. “It’s messed up looking at his situation, being a role model,” Wince Aubrey, 32, told MTV News. “But he got caught red-handed, so he’s being a man and owning up to his responsibility. He gonna be missed.” Lil Wayne’s sentencing had been delayed a number of times, first for dental surgery he required and then once again after a fire occurred at the courthouse last week. But on Monday, the rapper was formally sentenced to one year in prison after pleading guilty to attempted gun possession. The New Orleans native will now call Rikers Island his home at least until November, when he could be released after eight months for serving his jail stint with good behavior. “Wow, that really sucks,” MTV.com reader Courtney wrote. “I think that this is so stupid. … He is a good artist and donates a lot of money to charities. I hope he gets out early!!!” “DAMN! So, finally he’s gone,” Superman commented online. “Stay strong, Weezy. Best rapper alive.” But not all fans were saddened by the departure of the nearly ubiquitous hip-hop star. George Asatrian, 21, argued that Lil Wayne won’t be missed too much. “Hip-hop won’t be affected too much by him going to jail,” he told MTV News. “Because he probably has so much music to last, and I think he has enough people under him who will hold him down until he comes back.” Brooklynite Angel Velasquez said that even though the rapper’s sentence is short, it will still be challenging. But he cautioned about too much hype surrounding Lil Wayne’s imprisonment. “It’s not all about Weezy,” he said. “There’s a lot more entertainers out there.” Related Videos Lil Wayne’s ‘Road To Rikers’ Related Photos Lil Wayne Heads To Rikers Island Related Artists Lil Wayne
