Madonna, Ricky Gervais Give ‘Advice’ In ‘Marriage Ref’

Duo, with Larry David, made up panel on Jerry Seinfeld’s new show. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna (file) Photo: MTV News Madonna has been married and divorced twice. Larry David just recently got divorced. And Ricky Gervais, despite having been with his partner for the last 25 years, has never actually been married. Still, Jerry Seinfeld called on these three superstars to hand out marriage advice to troubled couples on his new show — on which he himself doesn’t actually appear — “The Marriage Ref,” hosted by comedian Tom Papa. Each week on the show, celebrity guests dole out advice to husbands and wives who find themselves in stressful yet often humorous (to outsiders, anyway) conflicts with their spouses. On Thursday’s show, one husband had a problem with his wife keeping her dead previous husband’s prosthetic leg in their closet. Gervais’ reaction? “This is insane, what I just watched.” David, meanwhile, wanted to pass on this couple, saying, “They’re so moronic, I don’t want to help them.” The show and the hosts turned against each other at one point when the panel was faced with a couple with sex issues. Apparently the wife didn’t want to have sex with her husband because of his uncleanliness. David accused Madonna of hating men, to which Madonna shot back, “No, I hate you. ” Then there was the husband who let his overbearing mother have too much control in his life. “This is the Oedipus complex run amuck,” David said. “He’s in love with his mother; he should start sleeping with her.” Perhaps Gervais summed up the night’s festivities best when he said, “This is the weirdest show I’ve ever been on.” Related Artists Madonna

Lupe Fiasco Reaches Out To Jay Electronica, Explains Jay-Z Comment

‘Everybody thinks because you’re black and you’re from the ‘hood, you wanna be Jay-Z,’ Lu tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by James Montgomery Lupe Fiasco Photo: Atlantic Celebrity Favorites Please respect our exclusive game. Just a couple of weeks ago, we told you how one of the underground’s favorites, Jay Electronica, said he wanted to make an album with Lupe Fiasco . He also said he wanted to go in on projects with Nas, Mos Def and a slew of others, but who’s counting? On Wednesday night in Manhattan, Lupe popped up on the red carpet for the MTV documentary “Summit on the Summit: Kilimanjaro,” which airs Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on MTV. Not only did Lu say he was down with collaborating with Jay, he’s initiating things. “I reached out to him a couple of days ago with some real serious ideas,” Lupe said. ” ‘Let’s put a program together. Something that works out and makes sense for the both of us.’ He’s a very talented MC. One of the few MCs that I actually listen to what they’re saying. I don’t listen to 98 percent of the rappers out there. But he’s one of the MCs I listen to and I’m inspired to do so. A collaboration is in the works.” Lupe also clarified the comments he made to TheAge.com , when he said he did not want to be like Jay-Z. “There’s a misunderstanding with my fanbase,” The Age quoted him as saying. ”People [at Warner] feel they know my fans more than I do. They want me to step out of my comfort zone and step into theirs. I don’t have necessarily the celebrity success they want me to have, but it’s more social success and being able to speak at a college about world affairs. That’s a success to me. I don’t want to be Jay-Z and be worth $400 million and perform on every awards show. It’s getting in touch with somebody who needs to improve their self-esteem as opposed to driving a Bentley and putting some chains on.” Lupe told us he didn’t mean any malice toward Jigga but was speaking up for individuality. “Jay-Z’s a personal friend of mine. [He] executive-produced my first album,” Fiasco said. “[My comments were] just an example using him of how people rate success. There’s an idea of the status quo that every rapper wants to be Jay-Z. Nah. Every rapper does not want to be Jay-Z. Every rapper don’t wanna be Kanye West. Everybody don’t wanna be Lil Wayne. They wanna be who they are. … You’re a fool trying to chase that success down and manage it like that. I always look at my success as further than a dollar sign, further than record sales. … Everybody thinks because you’re black and you’re from the ‘hood, you wanna be Jay-Z. There’s kids who wanna be astrophysicists and don’t care about rap. That should be OK. You should be OK just being you, working your regular job and being happy. That’s why I made that statement. I felt it need to be said.” Don’t miss “Summit on the Summit: Kilimanjaro,” airing Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on MTV. T.I. Name-Checks Tiger Woods On Leaked Usher Song

Atlanta MC mentions the scandal-weary golfer on singer’s ‘Guilty.’ By Shaheem Reid T.I. Photo: aylor Hill/ FilmMagic The hook of the first songs T.I. guests on since being sentenced to a year and a day in prison says, “Don’t take me to jail.” Isn’t it ironic? Tip collaborates with Usher on a new leaked record from Raymond v. Raymond called “Guilty,” where the singer is charged with breaking his girl’s heart. Tip did record another song with Usher last year before going to prison, but it sounds like the rhymes on “Guilty” were recorded recently — he name-checks a certain scandal-plagued athlete . “Right hand to the sky/ Strike me down if I a lie,” the King of the South proclaims. “If she sayin’ she’s the victim in this case then what am I/ She got proof, well I got alibis too/ I never been on bullsh– … she ain’t caught me on no Tiger Woods sh–/ Do what I expected when she met me/ Ballin’ against the law/ Shawty arrest me then.” Usher then pleads guilty. “I guess I’m guilty of always being in the club,” he sings. “I guess I’m guilty ’cause girls always wanna show me love/ I guess I’m guilty for living and having all of the fun/ Girl, I’m guilty for that/ Girl, I’m guilty.” Other recently leaked songs include “She Don’t Know” featuring Ludacris and “OMG” featuring Will.I.Am. Raymond v. Raymond is due in stores March 30 . Related Artists T.I. Usher

Travis Barker And DJ A-Trak Call Their Shows ‘A Spectacle’

‘Every moment is like a slap in the face,’ Trak says of their onstage collabos. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Kelly Marino Travis Barker and DJ A-Trak Photo: MTV News Fans who packed Hollywood’s Roxy Theatre on Wednesday night to catch Travis Barker and DJ A-Trak’s second-ever performance no doubt left the place feeling like the dynamic duo had rehearsed their airtight set to within an inch of its life. But, in actuality, nothing could be further from the truth. “We pretty much came up with everything in the past couple of days,” A-Trak told MTV News. “Like, we came in with nothing.” This is nothing new for Barker and Trak, who decided to perform together after a lengthy jam session last fall. So it was somewhat fitting that their “rehearsals” for the Roxy gigs flowed in much the same way. “[It was like] the earlier times when we had gotten together. It was jamming. It was just … seeing, like, what song he would throw at me and what I would do. Just seeing what the chemistry was like,” Barker explained. “And now it was like, you know, piecing it together. And we found that we used a bunch of my remixes and his remixes, [plus] some of his original songs, so it’s really cool.” And while the duo were cuttingly precise Wednesday night, there was also a liberating looseness to their set. And that’s what really got the crowd — which included Kanye West and girlfriend Amber Rose, Tim Armstrong and Rob Anton from the Transplants, Samantha Ronson and onstage guests Kid Cudi and Lil Jon — moving. Because despite the fact they were watching just a drummer and a DJ, the Roxy gig seemed more like a genuine, honest-to-goodness show, be it rock, hip hop or something in between. “I think the show is really, like, a concert performance. It’s a spectacle,” A-Trak said. “It’s, like, really condensed and in your face, and I think that every minute, every moment is like a slap in the face. That’s how I described it.” “There’s something for all music fans. If you’re a fan of music, you’ll dig it,” Barker added. “And then if you’re a fan of A-Trak and all his music or you’re a fan of me and you wanna see us just mash, then I think you’ll be stoked to see it.” Related Artists Travis Barker DJ A-Trak

Ludacris Had A ‘Good Conversation’ With Former Rival Bill O’ Reilly

‘We came together and did an event for charity,’ MC says of his run-in with the Fox News pundit. By Hillary Crosley Ludacris Photo: Jerritt Clark/ Getty Images Ludacris has made peace with his much-publicized enemy, Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly, after running into the controversial republican pundit at a recent dinner. “The first thing I said to him was, ‘I want to meet the guy who has had so much to say about me, but knows absolutely nothing about me’,” Ludacris told RadarOnline.com . “I identified that I wanted to speak to him when I saw his name on the guest list. I looked at what table he was on and I walked my ass straight to that table,” Luda continued. “He wasn’t expecting to see me at all. The look on his face when he saw me approaching … priceless.” The MC said the pair even teamed up for a recent charity event, but the shindig was kept secret. In 2002, Pepsi announced Ludacris as one of its spokespeople, and O’Reilly demanded a boycott against the company for hiring someone who “disrespects women, encourages drug use and encouraged violence.” In response, Pepsi fired Ludacris , though O’Reilly continued to condemn the rapper for years afterward, calling him “vile” and a “thug.” The soft-drink company also hired Jack and Kelly Osbourne, children of Ozzy Osbourne and famous for their foul mouths, as spokespeople and kept the pair on board. “I feel like they don’t respect the black dollar,” Ludacris said in 2003 of the beverage company’s decision to drop him. “When they put the Osbournes on, that’s basically them saying I’m worse than the Osbournes, so I don’t know who makes the decisions up there. No pun intended, but that’s ludicrous, man.” But now the past is water under the bridge. “The conversation we had was confidential, however, let’s just say it was a good conversation and good came out of it,” Ludacris offered. “From there, we came to a common ground. To be honest with you, we came together and did an event for charity — as crazy as it sounds. Perhaps everything happens for a reason.” The MC said the meeting was a culmination of years of cosmic pleading. “I prayed since the very first moment that Bill said something about me on television that I would be able to meet him in person,” Ludacris said. “It took about seven years for that to happen, but it finally happened. And the joy that came over me, well, it was outstanding.” Representatives for the MC were not available for comment at press time. Related Artists Ludacris

Lady Gaga’s ‘Telephone’ Looks: Fashion Experts Weigh In

Kelly Cutrone, Robert Verdi and more give us their opinions on the fashions worn by Gaga in her latest video. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga in her video for “Telephone” Photo: twitter.com/ladygaga After an attempt to decode just what might happen in Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” video , it’s time to take a look at some of the fashion-forward ensembles Gaga has been sporting in the leaked photos leading up to the video’s Thursday premiere. She’s worn everything (and nothing) from crime-scene tape to leather and studs and MTV News gathered a few fashion experts to weigh in on some of Gaga’s “Telephone” looks. The Telephone Eye Patch Made of Hair Kelly Cutrone, “The Hills” and “Kell on Earth” : “I just love this whole thing. It’s totally insane.” Robert Verdi, celebrity stylist : “It’s interesting that Gaga is inspired by the telephone because it’s almost an object of yesteryear. There’s something really almost nostalgic already about a telephone, particularly in the way she’s using it in some of them. She’s deconstructing it and it’s somehow metaphoric for communication and it’s attached to her head, which is kind of the direction we’re going in.” The American Flag Ensemble Cutrone : “[This look is] a little like if a baton twirler had sex with David Lee Roth and Axl Rose.” Verdi : “She’s wearing the American flag and her hair’s down kind of like a hippie. I think she’s inspired by Jimi Hendrix in that frame.” Richie Rich, Heatherette designer : “It’s a little Guns N’ Roses and it’s cool.” How the “Telephone” Look Fits Into Gaga’s Aesthetic Cutrone : “I think she’s growing up nicely and starting to bust out on her own. I think she’s making much stronger pop-art statements.” Richie : “As an artist she’s branching out a little bit more. I think now she’s actually showing herself off more.” What Lady Gaga look do you love the most? Tell us in the comments! 311 Fans Get Hyped ‘311 Day’ Fan Party In Las Vegas

One fan threatened to quit his job in order to come. By Matt Elias 311’s Nick Hexum (file) Photo: Dana Nalbandian/ WireImage LAS VEGAS — It might have been the day before 311 Day , but the festivities were already in full swing Wednesday night at the Jet nightclub at the Mirage Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The official 311 Fan Party at Jet served as the epicenter for die-hard fans from all over the country to converge — and converge they did. Fans packed the line in droves even before the doors opened at 9 p.m. Jet let its usual formal dress code slide for the night, allowing fans to show their true colors in 311 T-shirts, hats, and plenty of tattoos. By 11 p.m., the line of fans stretched all the way to the entrance of the Mirage. But you didn’t have to see them to feel their presence — their chants of “311!” could be heard all the way to the blackjack tables. Inside the club, 311 music was blasting on the speakers — and that’s where MTV News’ guest correspondents Dave Kosin and Lauren Black, winners of the 311 Day contest) were hard at work. The pair were meeting old friends and new ones from all over the country: ecstatic fans from Lauren’s home state of Texas to a local Las Vegas couple who booked a hotel room to take part in the activities. But it was a fan from across the pond that proved just how die-hard 311 fans are. He told Dave, “I had to threaten to resign from my job to be allowed to come.” For him, a week without pay ended up being a small penalty for his first-ever 311 Day. He could hardly contain his excitement. “In England they never play a 311 song, so even tonight, it’s just wow! It’s amazing — tomorrow is going to be the best day of my life,” he said with a smile. MTV News will have much more from 311 Day for the rest of this week! Related Videos 311 Day Contest Winners Party With 311! Related Artists 311
