Lady Gaga Planning Ambitious 3-D Concert, DVD

‘There are talks about a 3-D concert and DVD in the near future,’ rep for Gaga tells MTV News. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images Lady Gaga is currently in the midst of the Australian leg of her massive Monster Ball tour — with scheduled stops in Japan and Europe — and, as you probably know by now, she’s also putting the finishing touches on the much-anticipated “Telephone” video , too. But neither of those things are standing in the way of yet another ambitious endeavor, a planned 3-D concert and subsequent DVD. On Monday (March 8), MTV News spoke to a rep for her label, Interscope Records, who told us that “there are talks about a 3-D concert and DVD in the near future.” No other information — including just how a 3-D concert would manifest — was available at press time. Late last week, Gaga fansites began speculating about plans for a 3-D DVD (link http://gagadaily.com/2010/03/the-monster-ball-dvd-coming-soon/), but this is the first time a concert has been mentioned. In December, Gaga released a deluxe edition of her Fame Monster album, which included a pair of 3-D glasses that she mysteriously explained would come in handy “for things happening soon .” In the mean time, her Little Monsters are gearing up for the debut of the “Telephone” video — the follow-up to her striking “Bad Romance” clip — which, after weeks of teasing from Gaga herself and some last-minute editing is scheduled to premiere Thursday at 11:30 p.m. ET on E! News. Related Artists Lady Gaga

Lil Wayne Promises ‘I’ll Return’ In Pre-Jail Tweet

We look back at the highlights from Weezy’s weeks on Twitter. By James Montgomery Lil wayne Photo: MTV News On February 21, amid the ongoing reshuffling of his sentencing , Lil Wayne started a Twitter account . In the time since, he’s used the site to communicate with his fans, explore big topics like love and faith (and bowling ) and even set off a minor panic when he threatened to quit tweeting . Thankfully, he didn’t give it up, because throughout his sentencing delays, Weezy’s tweets have given fans a chance to peer inside his head and to live the drama of his impending jail time with him. And now that he’s officially been sentenced , we figure those tweets will probably come to an end. So here’s a look back at some of the highlights, set against the timeline of lengthy legal maneuverings. In the days leading up to his sentencing, Wayne wrote almost exclusively about affairs of the heart (“Ain’t it funny how love finds you in your darkest place?” “Love, I am your shadow,” “Love is a circle … stay in it or around it … just don’t end up out of shape”) and, uh, time travel (“Hello future, goodbye now, I’m on my way to the past …”). He also took time to let his fans know that he was enduring in the face of a year behind bars (“Staying strong,” ” Yesterday, I smiled, today I smirked, tomorrow I stop … thanks for your thoughts and prayers, they’re needed.”). Then, when a courthouse fire caused his sentencing to be delayed yet again, he let it be known that he planned to use his remaining days of freedom to promote positivity. “More time to love,” he wrote, immediately following the delay. “Trying to spend my love wisely.” With his sentencing rescheduled for Monday (March 8), he again started touting love — or the absence of it — dropping lines like “Love is a beautiful lie which most prefer when the truth hurts” and “Born to love, so I’ll die without.” He also promised to “Kik Lil Twist’s azz in bowling” (because it can’t always be about love). And, finally, early Monday morning, with his sentencing just hours away, he posted what may be his final tweet (for now): an inspirational message that promised his fans he’d most certainly be back. “Law is mind without reason,” he wrote. “I’ll return.” Related Videos Lil Wayne’s ‘Road To Rikers’ Lil Wayne Goes To Jail Related Photos Lil Wayne Heads To Rikers Island Related Artists Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne Could Finish Jail Time In Eight Months

Rapper should only serve two-thirds of his yearlong sentence, a lawyer tells MTV News. By Gil Kaufman Lil Wayne at the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse on February 9 in New York City Photo: Dario Cantatore/ Getty Images After delays due to dental surgery and a courthouse fire , Lil Wayne will finally be sentenced and begin his one-year prison term stemming from a 2007 gun arrest on Monday (March 8). But, according to a prominent New York lawyer, barring any major disciplinary issues, the MC (born Dwayne Michael Carter) should be free in eight months. “In New York, any sentencing to a year or less requires the time to be done in a county facility, and based on good-time credit in that kind of facility [such as Rikers Island, where Wayne is expected to be imprisoned], people only usually do two-thirds of their time,” said Scott Leemon, a New York attorney who is not involved in the Wayne case but who has represented a number of other rappers in legal issues, including 50 Cent, Tony Yayo and Remy Ma. “Basically, all he needs to do is stay out of trouble, and it’s an automatic thing. But if you’re having disciplinary problems, they can take away good time.” Leemon said it takes a “substantial” violation for that good time to be revoked, such as getting into a major fight or having large amounts of contraband. Wayne’s lawyer did not return requests for comment at press time. Though Leemon did not know what kind of sentencing guidelines Judge Charles H Solomon would impose on Weezy, he said that if the rapper did good time and earned an early release, he could walk out of Rikers Island in early October without having to see a parole board. “The only question is if he will be sentenced to some post-release supervision, which depends on what the judge gives him.” Wayne was originally scheduled to be sentenced last month, but his attorney requested a delay due to dental surgery the rapper required. Judge Solomon agreed to the last-minute request and rescheduled the proceedings for March 2. The New Orleans MC has had more time than he requested to recover from a reported eight root canals in one day. “I don’t want this to get pushed back anymore,” Judge Solomon told the rapper’s lawyer during his last appearance. “This is the last adjournment.” Then, just hours before he was set to appear before Judge Charles H. Solomon on Tuesday, a fire broke out at the Manhattan Criminal Court Building. At the first sign of smoke, the building was evacuated and all appearances were postponed. The next day, Weezy’s court date was once again rescheduled. Wayne is set to appear before Solomon on Monday and plead guilty to attempted gun possession. He’s then expected to turn himself in immediately to begin his prison term. The rapper reached a deal with prosecutors in November to plead out to a lesser sentence, and in return he is expected to be released from prison as early as October of this year. In 2007, Lil Wayne was arrested for gun possession following his first headlining performance in Manhattan at the Beacon Theatre. A gun-possession charge in New York could have landed the Cash Money superstar behind bars for up to 15 years if he was convicted. Wayne has been working feverishly in recent weeks to complete a number of videos and songs to stay relevant during his physical absence. That pace he’s gotten accustomed to, however, will come to a screeching halt, according to a New York corrections officer who spoke to MTV News. Once the rapper lands behind bars, his days will be as regimented as his recording schedule — but will be maintained by the prison warden, not Lil Wayne. “He’ll be housed with inmates who are classified in his category, and he’ll be able to be a regular inmate,” the guard said. “He’ll be able to watch television, go into the day room and congregate with people of his classification. Who Can Visit Lil Wayne In Jail, And When?

Inmates at Rikers Island can refuse visitors — fans take note! By Jayson Rodriguez New York’s Rikers Island Prison Photo: MTV News Once Lil Wayne has turned himself in to begin his one-year prison sentence in New York, his label, the Miami-based Cash Money outfit, is expected to relocate its operations to the Big Apple both to be closer to its franchise artist and to show him support. That support, one assumes, will include plenty of visits to Wayne on Rikers Island, where the rapper will reside at the Eric M. Taylor Center, according to a corrections officer who spoke with MTV News. According to the New York City Department of Correction Web site , the rapper is afforded a number of visitation options during his incarceration. Each week, inmates are permitted two visits, which can last up to an hour and occur any day of the week except Monday and Tuesday, when the facility is closed to all visits. On those days when visitors are welcomed, hours for visits range from 12:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Within those options lie scheduling blocks dictated by a sliding-scale that is determined by the first letter of a prisoner’s last name. The schedule is available by accessing the DOC Web site. For instance, next week (the week of March 14) inmates whose last names begin with the letters A-L, which would include Lil Wayne (real name: Dwayne Carter), are permitted visitors on Sunday and Wednesday only (on Friday each week all prisoners are permitted visitors). The following week (beginning March 21), inmates whose last names begin with the letters A-L have just Thursday allocated for visitors. During the following week (beginning March 28), Lil Wayne will have Sunday and Wednesday available for visitors. People who wish to visit inmates on Rikers Island don’t have to register ahead of time to schedule trips to the prison. The DOC advises visitors to take public transportation to the compound, although a small amount of parking spaces are available. And while anyone can visit, the inmate must approve the visitation, and the facility’s security personnel have the authority to reject any potential visitor (fans take note). Once visitors arrive at the facility, they are directed to the Central Visit Control Building, where they must complete a registration form and pass through a number of security clearances. Visitors must go through a metal detector and all of their items will be searched. In addition, visitors may also be selected for an ION Scan Test, which checks for the presence of narcotics or explosives. Canine searches may also be performed as well. Once the security posts are cleared, visitors then wait to be transported by shuttle to the specific prison (there are nine different jail houses on Rikers Island) that houses the inmate they came to see. Three visitors at a time are permitted to visit inmates; visits by an attorney, counselor, religious adviser or member of the media do not count toward the imprisoned person’s visits per week. Conjugal visits are not permitted unless the inmate is married to the visitor. During visits, inmates and family or friends can chat, and items can be given to incarcerated individuals; clothes are primarily permissible items. For Wayne, his visits may be the the only time he gets to interact with individuals beyond the guards assigned to protect his safety. A corrections officer, who didn’t wish to be identified because of the classified information he shared, told MTV News late last month that the rapper will be placed in a unit with inmates that meet a certain classification. “He’ll be housed with inmates who are classified in his category, and he’ll be able to be a regular inmate,” the guard said. “He’ll be able to watch television, go into the day room and congregate with people of his classification.”It’s a high-class area where he will be segregated from [the general] population,” the guard added. Miley Cyrus Talks Liam Helmsworth, Taking Time Off From Music

‘He’s very grateful for what he has, but he doesn’t let it go to his head. I’m like that too,’ Cyrus tells Teen Vogue. By Jocelyn Vena Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus At Elton John’s Oscar party on Sunday Photo: Stefanie Keenan/Getty Images for Chopard In the forthcoming issue of Teen Vogue, teen queen Miley Cyrus sits down with her “Last Song” co-star and real-life boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth , to talk about the pair’s instant chemistry with one another, as well as her career future now that she’s bidding the world of Hannah Montana a fond farewell for more adult pastures in flicks like “The Last Song” and her cameo in the “Sex and the City” film sequel. “I think we’re both deeper than normal people — what they think and how they feel,” Cyrus says about Hemsworth in the April issue, hitting newsstands March 16. “He’s very grateful for what he has, but he doesn’t let it go to his head. I’m like that too.” And while his down-to-Earth nature may have stuck with Cyrus, it was his height that initially caught her eye. “He’s really tall. I thought, either I’m going to have to be in heels or standing on something for this entire movie!” she said. “He definitely showed chivalry: I remember him opening the door for the director, and I was like, ‘Wow.’ ” Hemsworth jokingly chimed in, “I have very good parents. It was funny — working with Miley was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. From the first time we read, it was like I had known her before.” Cyrus is can easily be defined as a “quadruple threat,” but it’s Hemsworth’s focus on just acting that she found most refreshing while shooting the flick. “It’s refreshing to work with an actor who isn’t also a singer and dancer and musician and artist and this and that,” she explained. “I’m sick of quadruple threats who do everything when they should stick to one thing.” Cyrus herself has been hard at work on her next album, but she admitted that music isn’t inspiring her the way it should be. “The more I make music that doesn’t truly inspire me, the more I feel like I’m blending in with everyone else,” she said. “So after this next album, I’m taking some time off.” So, what’s next for Cyrus then aside from “The Last Song” due out on March 31. Easy, lots: “I’m working on lots of different films: drama, action, comedy,” she says of her post-Hannah Montana life . “I like challenges, so I’m doing a little bit of everything.” And that includes a cameo in the hotly anticipated “Sex and the City” flick out in May. “I know everyone says Carrie, but I love Kim Cattrall, so I’ll say Samantha,” she said. “I want to be her because she’s the hottest, she’s funny, and she has attitude.” The new issue of Teen Vogue is on stands March 16. John Park Got Caught Up With ‘Nerves’ On ‘American Idol’

‘I definitely got distracted by the cameras and the fact that the judges were going to criticize me in front of 30 million people on live TV,’ he says. By Katie Byrne John Park Photo: Fox His “American Idol” journey might have come to an end Thursday, but John Park will always have Shania Twain. The guest judge made Park’s audition one of the most memorable of the season, with her borderline-inappropriate comments about his “bottom end.” The Northbrook, Illinois, college student never quite lived up to his initial promise, however, and he was sent packing , along with Jermaine Sellers , Haeley Vaughn and Michelle Delamor. We caught up with the 21-year-old Friday (March 5) to talk about the judges’ harsh comments, his early front-runner status and what’s next. Q : After your performance this week, Simon made a comment about your college a cappella group getting their lead singer back. What were you thinking when he said that? A : He was basically saying that I might go home this week. He, of course, dramatized it so that people at home watch it and they can get a kick out of it. I don’t really mind it, because I understand where he’s coming from. That’s just how he is on TV. After the elimination happened and I sang my last song, he came up to me and shook my hand and said, “Good job for coming this far.” He’s not that mean of a guy, actually. Q : It seemed like you and Andrew Garcia have been dogged from the start with the early front-runner status. Do you think that held you back at all? A : I think it was mostly song choice and nerves. I definitely got distracted by the cameras and the fact that the judges were going to criticize me in front of 30 million people on live TV, so I think that kind of took away from my concentration on just singing the song honestly. I couldn’t do my best to interpret the song my own way. Q : The judges got on your case about not showing them what kind of artist you would be. What type of music do you see yourself making? A : I think it would be more pop, neo-soul. Kind of like a John Mayer, John Legend, Gavin DeGraw kind of feel to it. Q : Were there past “American Idol” contestants who inspired you to try out for the show? A : My favorite “Idol” winner was Kelly Clarkson. I just vividly remember her finale show, when she sang “A Moment Like This,” and she was crying onstage. It was just an incredible moment for me when I was a kid. Were you sad to see John go? Did you think the judges were overly hard on him? Let us know below! Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. ‘American Idol’ Castoff Haeley Vaughn Says Miley Cyrus Is An ‘Icon’

‘I’m a really big fan of Disney and Disney Channel, so hopefully there’s something there that I can work on,’ she says. By Katie Byrne Haeley Vaughn Photo: Fox Haeley Vaughn’s smile was infectious, but her uneven singing left the “American Idol” judges (and fans) frustrated. After her shaky performance of Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb,” Vaughn was eliminated Thursday, along with Jermaine Sellers , John Park and Michelle Delamor. Will the 16-year-old’s country/pop dreams still come true? We talked to the high-schooler from Fort Collins, Colorado, on Friday (March 5) to talk about that and more. Q : What did you think when Kara suggested you take a year to strengthen your vocal skills? A : I kind of agreed with her. I think that more experience and more time working on my vocals would be good. I think experience is always better, especially since I’m only 16 and this is the first big thing that I’ve done ever. I’ve never performed in front of millions of people before; I’ve never even performed in front of 100. I think it’s always good to get more experience and work on the things that I need to work on. Q : The contestants seem to be particularly nervous this year. Is the anxiety level really high? A : The first week was really tough. We were all super nervous and scared and worried about our song choice. The first week, we were all just freaking out and trying to pick the right songs and make sure America would like them. Nerves are always gonna play a huge factor in what we do on the show. Q : Why didn’t you sing any country songs during your first two semifinal performances? A : The songs I chose, I made them kind of pop/country. I wanted to not have to sing Martina McBride every week just because I wanted to be a country artist. When Carrie Underwood was on her season, she didn’t sing only country songs. She was very versatile, and she chose songs of a different genre and she made them fit her country style. And that was my whole thing that I did too. Q : Do you think the judges have been particularly rough this year? A : Simon was definitely really harsh this season. But, I mean, he has reason to be. … Sometimes he should soften the blow a little bit, but that’s Simon Cowell. He’s been like that for nine years. Q : Are you going to go back to school or focus on your career? A : I’m definitely gonna keep working on my career. I’m gonna keep singing. Hopefully, doors will open up for me. I’m a really big fan of Disney and Disney Channel, so hopefully there’s something there that I can work on. I’m just gonna keep working on my career and doing what I love to do. Q : What kind of career do you see yourself having? A : Miley Cyrus is one of my icons. Oh my gosh, I love her…. Country music is definitely my genre, pop/country. And playing my guitar is awesome. Yeah, if I were given the chance to do that, I would definitely jump on it. Q : Have you had a chance to talk to any “American Idol” alumni to get advice? A : I talked to Allison [Iraheta] for a bit when she came and she performed the first week. And she just told me to stay true to who I am and keep doing my thing and keep doing one genre of music and just be really strong and confident. Were you sad to see Haeley go? Do you think she should have performed some more country songs? Let us know below! Nicole Scherzinger Calls Pussycat Dolls Lineup Shifts ‘Inevitable’

‘When it comes to girl groups, I think we did the best that we could for a good chunk of time,’ she tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Larry Carroll Nicole Scherzinger Photo: MTV News With the search on to fill out the Pussycat Dolls lineup after several members left the group to pursue other interests, the only surviving Doll, Nicole Scherzinger, admits that changes within the group are “inevitable.” But Scherzinger insisted that all the girls who left are like family to her, and she only wants them to find success and happiness in their new careers. “You know what? I’ve always looked at the Pussycat Dolls as a family,” she told MTV News. “We were really a sisterhood. We were together for six years, nonstop, 24/7. And I know a lot of them are pursuing their own solo projects and future endeavors, and I wish them nothing but the best.” While she’s still fully committed to the girl group, she knows that people sometimes need to move on to find their own happiness. “I believe they are beautiful and talented girls. And I believe in them, and I just want them to be happy,” she said. “Success means different things to different people, so whatever brings them happiness, I wish them that.” Still, she knows that in the world of girl groups, breakups and shakeups are the norm. “It’s kind of inevitable, right? When it comes to girl groups, I think we did the best that we could for a good chunk of time,” she explained. “We had an amazing time, and then people change and people grow, and sometimes things aren’t right for them. We’re all artists — just go and be creative. I love the PCD. It’s been a blessing for me. I don’t take it for granted, so I can’t wait to do more music.” Aside from PCD, Scherzinger will also be strutting her stuff on the upcoming season of “Dancing With the Stars.” Related Artists Pussycat Dolls

‘I’m looking to come with another summer release,’ MC says of Loso’s Way 2. By Shaheem Reid Fabolous Photo: MTV News Fans can stop hitting Fabolous up on Twitter. It took a few more months than expected, but Fabo’s Gangsta Grillz mixtape The Funeral Service: There Is No Competition 2 was uploaded to the Internet Thursday. The tape contains guest appearances from Nicki Minaj, Red Cafe, Paul Cain and others, with a slew of jacked beats and some original material. So now that the unofficial tape is out, when is Loso’s Way 2 coming? “The new album — I’m looking to come with another summer release,” he said. “Probably late July or early August. I’m gathering joints together — so any producer trying to make that Loso’s Way 2, you can send them in. I got a couple of things in the stash. I always keep beats on the side even if they don’t work at the time. I know a hot beat when I hear it. The ‘Throw It In the Bag’ [remix] I had for seven, eight months before I used it. I knew it was a hot joint. When I did the remix I started digging in the crates and pulled it up. I haven’t went it to start [laying] vocals [on the album] yet, but we in the motion of it.” After one of his most successful years in 2009, Fab wants to grow in 2010. “Just the next level in the career, the evolution of Fabulous,” he said of the direction of the next Loso’s Way. “Me, a kid coming from the housing projects in Brooklyn and having the ability to make music, from the mixtape level to graduating to the album level, now just being able to make good music. Keep stable who I am as an artist, as a person. Of course, the next level of my life. On the first Loso’s Way, I touched on having a son and stuff like that. That was the next step for me in general, in life — evolving as a man. Now there are things I’m evolving in as an artist as well.” Related Artists Fabolous
