Justin Bieber Fans Rave About Hartford Tour Kickoff

‘I thought it was really cool when he came out in the heart,’ fan Kiera said about the heart-shaped cage in which Bieber hovered over the audience. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber (file) Photo: George Pimentel/ WireImage HARTFORD, Connecticut — On Wednesday night, swarms of teenage girls took over the XL Center in Hartford to check out Justin Bieber as he kicked off his first headlining tour , in support of his album My World 2.0. During the show, Bieber dazzled the crowd with fan favorites like “Baby,” “Somebody to Love and “One Time,” but it seems the moment Bieber fans loved most was when he flew over the audience in a heart-shaped cage. “I thought it was really cool when he came out in the heart,” Kiera told MTV News as she was leaving the show. “It was, and he was, in the audience. That was pretty cool.” Devin added, “I liked when he flew around in that heart thing.” The chance to get so close to their idol proved to be a highlight of the night. With most of the glowing reviews from Bieber fans running the gamut from “great” to “amazing” to “loved it,” even his older fans, like girls the audience’s apparent median age of 14, caught Bieber Fever. Megan confessed, “I know I’m not supposed to be in love with someone that young, but I am.” Kristen added, “Well tonight’s show was really fun, and seeing Justin Bieber in real person and [hearing him sing] was amazing.” Erin admitted that Bieber’s family-friendly antics made the show even more enjoyable. “I thought it was really fun and it was really great for kids,” she said. “I really enjoyed it. I kind of came in [like], OK, I’m not gonna enjoy it.’ But I really had a lot of fun. It was a fun concert.” Bieber later tweeted that he really owed his successful first show to his fans. “When u have the support of the greatest fans in the world. U just end up smiling. Thanks,” he wrote. “2nite was just…well…i was scared. Didn’t want to let anyone down but the energy and the fans were incredible. Cant wait to do this again!” Related Photos Justin Bieber Takes Over The Bodies Of Other Teen Idols Related Artists Justin Bieber

Adam Lambert Whips Up Frenzy On Glam Nation Tour

The glam-pop singer’s vocal fireworks were as electric as his stage show during a two-night stint in New York City. By Jim Cantiello Adam Lambert performs at the Nokia Theatre on the first night of his New York stint Adam Lambert brought the drama , the glitter and, most important, the voice to a sold-out two-night stint at New York City’s Nokia Theatre, stopping in Times Square on his Glam Nation Tour . Lambert aimed for spectacle with video screens, backup dancers and extravagant costumes and makeup. But as cool as the lasers were, all the bells and whistles were no match for the glam-pop star’s vocal fireworks, which were in top-notch condition on his Tuesday and Wednesday dates. His pitch-perfect pipes proved to be the real star of the show. Pulling liberally from his debut For Your Entertainment, the singer whipped concertgoers into a frenzy during uptempo numbers like the fan fave “Strut,” Lady Gaga-leftover “Fever” and current single “If I Had You.” Yet he also managed to maintain the crowd’s attention even as he slowed things down for an extended acoustic set that featured a stripped-down take on his biggest hit, “Whataya Want From Me.” In fact, the audience was so enamored with the magnetic performer on Tuesday night that one could hear a pin drop during an especially quiet moment as Lambert sang the theatrical “Soaked” — save for one drunken patron screaming out the name of singer Klaus Nomi. (You can’t fault the inebriated gentleman. At times, the Muse-penned number sounded a lot like an aria Nomi would have performed 30 years ago, back when he was an East Village staple.) Wednesday night’s audience was especially raucous. The energy in the venue extended from the back row all the way to the front where a group of good-looking young men planted themselves, glued to Adam’s every move. On both nights — performing identical set lists — Adam boldly opened his hour-long show with a medley that included a deep cut from a remix EP and an iTunes bonus track ( “Voodoo” and “Down the Rabbit Hole,” respectively), before transitioning into the Johnny Cash “Ring of Fire” cover that earned him millions of fans on “American Idol” in 2009. He closed the night by revisiting two more “Idol” numbers: a sped-up, almost jubilant “Mad World” and a slowed-down, slinky “Whole Lotta Love” that dripped with sexuality, as well as killer musicianship from his winning band. Besides “Whole Lotta Love” and a quick face-lick with his “glitterbaby,” bassist Tommy Joe Ratliff Tuesday night, Lambert’s onstage antics were relatively tame. Adam may want to reconsider his promise of a “family-friendly tour” given that his fans screamed loudest the few times Glam Nation pushed the envelope, including one brief moment Wednesday night when Adam simulated masturbation with a microphone stand. Back in February, the last time Adam played New York City, he licked a fan’s camera and was groped by grab-happy spectators. This week, the only time Adam got touchy-feely with the audience was on an emotional level, following up a soaring “Sleepwalker” by opening up about past relationships. Actually, Lambert channeled Dr. Phil several times during the show, doling out self-help platitudes any chance he got. By sharing about his life (and perhaps oversharing about how a dance move hurt his man-parts), it brought the glittery star down to earth. After all, when Adam Lambert sings, it’s out of this world. The Glam Nation Tour will continue to rock through the summer and into September. If you were one of the lucky ones who bought tickets before they sold out, make sure to get there early for Allison Iraheta’s blink-and-you-miss-it too-brief-but-totally-killer opening set. Australian singer/songwriter Orianthi also opens. What did you think of Adam’s two-night stand in New York City? Share your reviews in the comments! Scarborough Mocks Conservative Message: ‘Freedom Has Died Tonight! Get Your Muskets Out!’

The oil is out of the well. Once again, MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough’s Republican viewpoint is anti-Republican. One could even say the host is hostile and abusive to any Republicans left in his audience. On the June 17th show, the panel was discussing the President’s new escrow account for the victims of the BP oil spill and how criticism has come out from both sides. Scarborough briefly commented that on hand, the “far left” does not think that the administration is allocating enough money to the victims. However, when he mentions critics on the “far right,” he arrogantly mocked them at length. He practically accused them of preparing for a violent insurrection: “I mean seriously how many times can freedom die, in one quarter? Because if you listen to the Republicans, they send out press releases every day, saying freedom has died tonight! Get your muskets out!”[MP3 Audio available here ] This indictment doesn’t sound like the “conservative” Joe claims to be. It sounds a lot like an echo of Chris Matthews in his documentary “The Rise of the New Right,” which characterizes all Republicans as supporting, provoking, or partaking in violence. The former Republican Congressman is taking the position that if you don’t agree with this administration you should just keep your mouth shut right now because, “it allows you to criticize later and have more authority, but these Republicans don’t have that nimble touch, to say the least.” The guy who says, “once in a while I may say some negative things about Barack Obama,” thinks he is the one who the Republican Party should take advice from. Scarborough must have the “nimble touch” because his idea of being tough on the administration is to put the kid gloves on.

HOWARD STERN: MORE RELEVANT THAN EVER

Sirius XM Radio has made huge strides over the past year. They have moved to generating subscribers again, refinanced debt to better rates, started cleaning up the balance sheet, regained NASDAQ Listing requirements, avoided a forced reverse split, and are on the verge of getting added to the Russel Indexes. Throughout these trying times, Sirius XM’s Howard Stern has remained a constant, delivering his radio show the way it was meant to be heard. His mission is simply to deliver the best entertainment show on radio. The interesting thing about Howard Stern is how dynamic he is. Yes, his antics are not the favorites of some, but his show is far more than just antics. The show is about every day life the way we all live it. If you have never heard Stern you are missing out on a brand of Howard that is better than ever. I would not go so far as to say that Stern mellowed with age. A more proper description would like fine scotch. Stern has “smoothed” with age. In fact, he is better now than he ever has been, and even he knows that, like scotch, the best is yet to come. If nothing else, Stern hates to disappoint. Stern is still edgy, but most of the edgier antics are now part of the staff. The best Stern content comes from his insight into people, what they want to know, and what type of entertainment is relevant for the moment. Some of the best interviews I have ever heard came from Stern. He is a master that is getting better with each interview. Stern manages to speak with people on a level where they do not feel threatened. He resonates with not only his audience, but those that appear on his show. Stern provides the forum where a guest feels comfortable in letting loose a little bit. He is able to draw out things that no other interviewer can, and his audience gets the luxury of gaining insight that they never would have had otherwise. Sure, he talks about sex, but realistically speaking, it is a subject that everyone thinks about (some many times per day). Stern fans sit in the privacy of their cars and feel like they are being included in some secret that others are not privy to. It is a dynamic. It is a connection. All of this being said, Stern is on the last months of his deal with Sirius XM. Some speculate retirement, but I think Stern has more to give, and at least at this point, is not ready to turn off the microphone. What is more likely is a schedule that is a bit more liberal, perhaps even going down to a three day per week schedule. People will still have Stern, and believe it or not, a three day schedule may lead to a show that is better still. Consider this. If Stern worked Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, he would have a four day weekend. This gives Stern the time he wants to do the little things that we all love to do. The beauty is that the more Stern can live life, the more we, as listeners get to share in it. This past weekend Stern took a rare trip to California and today we were treated to a terrific interview with Ashton Kutcher. Stern living a “good life” translates into more that he can bring to radio. Howard Stern is more relevant than ever. Sirius XM is more relevant than ever. Sirius XM gives Howard Stern the platform to do his show the way it was meant to be done. Watch for Stern to not only renew his deal, but to deliver the highest caliber radio of his career. Janet Jackson Sings ‘Nothing,’ Gets ‘Nasty’ On ‘American Idol’

Singer wows ‘Idol’ viewers with back-to-back performances of new song ‘Nothing,’ followed by classic ‘Nasty.’ By Josh Wigler Janet Jackson Photo: MTV News As the season nine finale of “American Idol” drew close to the finish line, the crowd gathered at the Nokia Theatre and the viewers at home waited nervously for either single mom Crystal Bowersox or paint salesman Lee DeWyze to be crowned the winner. But even as their fates hung in the air, the rest of the season nine competitors flocked to the stage one last time to sing “Again,” the 1993 single from Janet Jackson’s fifth studio album, Janet. The former “Idol” hopefuls’ collective moment in the spotlight ended shortly as Jackson herself graced the stage for a moving rendition of her new song “Nothing,” recorded for the soundtrack of Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married Too.” With her hair pulled back tight and her black dress flowing, Jackson proceeded to provide the audience with waves of heartfelt emotion as she sang: And the truth is that I realize/ Love is fading from your eyes/ Don’t know how it came to this/ But we can get it fixed tonight. Jackson’s sweet song didn’t stay sweet for long. As she finished her version of “Nothing,” the 44-year-old singer momentarily left the stage and was replaced by a host of male dancers wearing white shirts and black slacks. When she returned, Jackson’s dress was gone and replaced by a skintight black bodysuit, signaling the transition from the mournful beauty of “Nothing” to the fast-paced nitty-gritty of “Nasty,” Jackson’s second single from her third studio album, Control (1986). A light show of green lasers flocked the Nokia Theatre as Jackson moved aggressively against her fellow dancers, all of whom finished the performance sans shirts. Although significantly more clothed than her stagemates, Jackson was clearly just as thrilled as the dancers as she warmly waved and blew kisses to both the audience and the judges’ table at the end of her performance. From “The Blind Side” to “The Proposal,” Sandra Bullock has had one heck of an amazing year on the big screen — a richly deserved payoff after a more than two-decade-long career in Hollywood. That’s why at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards , we’re bestowing MTV’s highest honor, the Generation Award, to Bullock, who will be on hand during the show to accept the honor. She can pop off LOL-inducing one-liners in one movie and execute a sucker-punch to your soul in another. She’s already won four MTV Movie Awards. For all these reasons and more, Bullock is this year’s MTV Generation Award honoree. Past recipients include Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey, but this is the first time a woman has ever been honored. “Sandra is one of those rare individuals who is adored by our audience as both an actress and a role model,” said Stephen Friedman, general manager of MTV. “Recognizing her remarkable talent, amazing range of films and her visceral connection to our audience around the globe, we are honored to present her with our MTV Generation Award.” It’s set to be a big evening for Bullock, as both “Blind Side” and “Proposal” are up for awards. Fan voting in all of these categories is now under way at MovieAwards.MTV.com and will stay open through Saturday, June 5. At Cannes: Mick Jagger Talks Weed, Promotes Stones in Exile

If an award were to be given at Cannes for the audience’s favorite film, it just might go to director Stephen Kijak’s Stones in Exile, which premiered here at Director’s Fortnight. It didn’t hurt that Mick Jagger himself dropped in to revisit those hazy days of nearly 40 years past.
