Source: LucasFotoArt / Getty New NYC Law Will Make Birth Certificates Have A Gender Neutral Option According to CNN , a new law in New York City will reportedly make it easier for transgender and non-binary New Yorkers to match their birth certificate to their gender identity without needing a signed affidavit from a healthcare provider. The law creates a new label, “X,” to reflect a non-binary identity, and will reportedly give Transgender and gender non-conforming New Yorkers the right to choose how they identify, says Mayor Bill de Blasio. Under the law, individuals born in New York City can apply to have the gender marker on their birth certificate changed by simply submitting a notarized application stating that the revision is to reflect their “true gender identity and is not for any fraudulent purpose.” And also, “You don’t need a doctor to tell you who you are and you shouldn’t need a doctor to change your birth certificate to reflect your true self,” says New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson The “X” option will not be available at the time of birth, Michael Lanza, a spokesman for the New York City Health Department, told CNN Thursday, though it will be an option for amending youth birth certificates. The move is the latest in the city’s efforts to reduce legal red tape and legal loophole difficulty for transgender and non-binary individuals.vNew York City joins the states of California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho in allowing a birth certificate change without the signature of a medical authority.

According to The Oregonian , a Black man staying a Doubletree in Portland, Oregon had the cops called on him because he was in the lobby talking to his momma on the phone. Jermaine Massey had just attended Travis Scott’s ASTROWORLD Tour and posted the following video to Instagram documenting his interaction with the hotel security guard named Earl and a Portland police officer. The lobby appears to be full of people. White people. What’s so suspicious about a Black man on the phone? A police report describes Massey as very angry and loud. Once they arrived, the police officers told Massey to go ahead and check out of the hotel because the dispute escalated. An officer told Massey outside the hotel that he had no way of knowing if the incident was fueled by racism, but that Massey should follow up with his complaints with hotel management so he wouldn’t have to be arrested for trespassing. Mississippi police officer Carl Ellis in was charged with taking care of his narcotic-sniffing K-9 partner, Ringo, upon the dog’s retirement from the Jackson Police Department. Instead, he dropped the dog at a local shelter and was caught when Ringo’s former trainer Randy Hare was contacted about adoption. As a result of this shabby behavior of a former police officer, Ellis was “demoted”. But this story isn’t about Ringo or the shady officer who dumped his bestest boy at the shelter, this is about people’s reactions to this story in contrast to how they react when police kill unarmed Black people. Sadly, a 60-year-old white man holds the keys to her liberation, literally. According to CNN , Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam is in the process of deciding whether or not to grant Cyntoia clemency for killing a man who solicited her for prostitution back in 2004. This case has struck a chord with millions of people on social media and celebs like Rihanna and Kim Kardashian. The system has failed. It’s heart breaking to see a young girl sex trafficked then when she has the courage to fight back is jailed for life! We have to do better & do what’s right.
