Nelly Says He’s Still Hip-Hop, Despite Crossover Success

‘I think you’d be an idiot to not do what works for you,’ Nelly tells MTV News of making hit records. By Rob Markman Nelly Photo: MTV News When Nelly first stepped on the scene in 2000, he was hip-hop to the core. There was no denying the street appeal the multiplatinum hitmaker displayed in his debut “Country Grammar” video wearing an oversize baseball cap, baggy jeans and backward football jersey. The St. Louis standout has exhibited a ton of growth in his 11-year career, and while his 2010 single “Just a Dream” shot to #1 on Billboard ‘s pop charts, it didn’t do much to bolster his hard-core rap cred — and that’s OK. Nelly is still in tune with his rap roots. He even presented LL Cool J with his I Am Hip Hop Icon Award at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards. “At the end of the day, I am urban, so you can’t run from that fact,” Nelly told MTV News as he walked the black carpet for the awards show. “At the end of the day, it’s another successful brother, stepping and breaking ground for the next brother to come along and do it.” The rhythmic “Just a Dream” was produced by Jim Jonsin and Rico Love, the same team that handled Kelly Rowland’s R&B hit “Motivation.” Still, it isn’t a different formula than the one used on his Patti LaBelle-sampled hit “Dilemma” in 2002. Nelly has always stretched the boundaries of hip-hop, maybe most exemplified on his country duet “Over and Over” with Tim McGraw. The hip-hop star didn’t reveal which musical direction he’d be going with his upcoming, yet-untitled seventh album, but it’s safe to assume he’ll do as he always has. Nelly is willing to let the chips fall where they may. “You do what works for you,” he said. “I think you’d be an idiot to not do what works for you. They don’t want me to be smart about it? They wanna see another dumb brother not succeeding because he tried to do something that wasn’t smart? That’s what they say about us: We don’t think first. Well, this brother thinking first. I plan on being here.” What are you expecting from Nelly’s new music? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Nelly

Tyler, The Creator Defends His Use Of Other F-Word

‘I have gay fans and they don’t really take it offensive,’ Odd Future frontman tells MTV News. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Matt Elias Tyler, the Creator Photo: MTV News Tyler, the Creator and his Odd Future cohorts have raised more than a few eyebrows on their way to rap notoriety. But while their followers praise the collective for their refreshing sound, as well as their renegade approach, some critics have argued that OF are pushing the boundaries of what should be acceptable in rap. On its website, Fader magazine analyzed Tyler’s Goblin album and counted 204 uses of the word “f—,” 68 of the word “bitch” and nine variations of “f–” or “f—-t,” an observation that has some asking whether the polarizing rapper is a misogynistic homophobe. We caught up with the OF frontman this week in Los Angeles and put the question to him. “Well, I have gay fans and they don’t really take it offensive, so I don’t know. If it offends you, it offends you,” Tyler told MTV News of his gay slurs. “If you call me a n—a, I really don’t care, but that’s just me, personally. Some people might take it the other way; I personally don’t give a sh–.” And there you have it. Tyler’s growing fanbase includes a host of major rappers who support the MC. In fact, during an interview with Sway, Eminem gave props to OFWGKTA. “I’ve heard enough to know that it feels like they’re pushing boundaries and buttons, and that’s definitely one of the things that I’m familiar with, especially when I first came out,” Eminem told MTV News on the set of Bad Meets Evil’s “Fast Lane” video in Detroit. “I love it; I love the fact that they’re doing that. And the dudes can rhyme.” Do you find Tyler’s lyrics offensive? Share your thoughts in the comments. Related Artists Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All

For Discussion: Are Open Relationships The Way To Go??

We live in a society where greater than 50 percent of marriages end in divorce, and a great proportion of those are due to cheating. A recent report published in the Journal of Sex Research, claimed almost a third of partners who said they were monogamous had in fact slept with someone outside of the relationship. And some behavioral scientists claim that monogamy is indeed unnatural. Some would argue that it appears monogamy isn’t working for people. And if it truly isn’t, many debate whether open relationships are the way to go. An open relationship is one in which a couple agree to be together, but also agree to have romantic or sexual relationships with additional people. There are no set rules when it comes to open relationships. It’s basically up to the couple to determine the boundaries of acceptable behavior. Many have opposed the idea of open relationships, and condemned people that practice them, claiming that the lifestyle is simply for the “selfish” and “immature.” And many people in open relationships assert that they have a better grasp on love and reality, unlike their monogamous counterparts that secretly cheat, deceive, and pretend to be monogamous. For an unmarried individual like myself, I wonder if those really are the only two choices: 1. Be in a monogamous relationship where someone secretly strays from time to time or 2. Be in an open relationship. Continue reading

Sextra: My Boyfriend Wants to Give Me a ‘Facial’

Bossip, I read your relationships posts all the time and I have a situation that I’d like to not only share but see if anyone has ever had this come up on their love life. My boyfriend and I are really close and we’ve grown to be great friends and lovers. Lately he’s been making jokes about “giving me a facial” and I didn’t think he was talking about ejaculating on my face but when I realized it I laughed it off but lately when we’ve been in the moment he asks me if he can give me a facial. I’m starting to get offended but, at the same time I want to do it. Please ask your readers to respond to this!!! I would like to know what they say. Thank you for your time!! Happy Friday, sis! Thank you for writing in and sharing your story! So, oh my! This is definitely for the late night! Most would agree that the response is simple! It’s nothing that you should do without being completely comfortable. There’s no real way to make this whole thing sexy – other than just being willing to allow him the privilege of performing such an act. If you’re not comfortable with it, don’t do it! And if he really cares about you, he’ll respect your wishes! Although, we know the opinions in the thread will vary, we took the time to ask some of our readers what they thought about this subject, so check out what they had to say below! When you bust on a girl’s face, I feel, all a man is really doing is smutting the girl out. It’s disrespectful, I wouldn’t do it. That means I have to stand up over you and literally do what I do on your face and I’m supposed to look at you the same after that? No way! It’s too much to get over. Might as well get urinate on her face, you know? It’s not for everybody and it’s damn sure not for me and my lady. But to each his own. Good, regular sex just isn’t enough for some people these days, I guess. – Olu, 32 If you sit on his face and get it in, he should be able to do the same! What’s the difference? I really want to know. If you’re at a point in your relationship where you can trust each other to that magnitude, then anything goes. But as long as the two of you can trust each other, I don’t see what the problem is. But for a man to feel comfortable enough to ask a woman to do that, then she’s on some freak sh*t. That’s real talk. – Reina, 28 I mean me and my wife get nasty with it but everybody has their boundaries. I love making love to my wife and there are some things I know she’s not going to do. Even though I know she would do anything that I ask of her in that way, I respect her and our marriage enough not to even go there. I don’t even want to. So, I guess what it boils down to for me, is that there are certain boundaries that I won’t cross with my wife. Everybody has their boundaries, so respect them. – Sean, 34 I’m not one for being violated in that way. I can’t really rock with idea of my man just ejaculating on my face! That’s not okay and it looks gross. I don’t understand what’s so cute about that! Why would a man want to do that to his wife? Before I had kids, I didn’t think too much of it and now that I have a daughter, umm! How about, no! Some things are just unnecessary and excessive … perverted in nature. In fact, my husband has never approached with it so I’m good! I just don’t like the idea. – Margaret, 30 What are your thoughts, Bossip Fam? Should some things remain off limits? Please share your thoughts below! Have a wonderful weekend and please remember to e-mail all topic suggestions, feedback and questions to loveandrelationships@bossip.com !

Lamar Odom: No Sex Tape, No Shame!

Lamar Odom is really sorry. He knows the public wants to watch him have sex with Khloe Kardashian, but he says we won’t get the chance to. Really, this is a quote from an interview the Lakers power forward/ reality star gave to Playboy this month: “People see us and are probably like, ‘Damn, I wonder how that looks.’ We wouldn’t have anything to be ashamed about, but no, that’s not going down.” Darn. We’ll try to carry on with our lives, Lamar. Elsewhere in the interview, Odom discusses life as a Kardashian, Scott Disick and more. Excerpts are posted below. On Khloe and his perception of marriage : Most people don’t want to get married. Being married, that’s a responsibility. I always used to tell that to women. I don’t want a girlfriend because that means I’ve got a responsibility. I have a responsibility to call you. I have a responsibility not to be with another woman. I have a responsibility to be there on time when you need me. With her I was like, If I do what I normally do, I’m going to lose her. And if I lose her, I think it’s going to hurt a lot. Right then and there I knew. We were together every day. Did he really withhold sex until marriage? I tried to. On the Kardashians : People have the wrong idea. They’re a really strong family and fun to be around… I’m perfect for that. I come from a big family. I’ve always been on a team. I understand. The circus is what makes it tick and keeps it going. On Scott Disick : As long as he’s not disrespectful to Khlo

Brooklyn Decker for Esquire of the Day

I hate Brooklyn Decker. I am a firm believer she only got the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit because Andy Roddick and his gang of sports agents, managers, sponsors and the World Tennis Association made Sports Illustrated scared they’d lose sponsors, exclusives, interviews with athletes and all the other shit that comes with pissing off very powerful people….They figured the other models who are hotter than here aren’t married to pro athletes, but this is a strategic business move… She’s blocked me on twitter cuz I call her out on sucking Mandy Moore’s pussy juice off her husband’s dick and possibly for other reasons, like an odd attraction to my bad english…and I’m not talking the band…. What it comes down to is that she’s got big tits, skinny frame, so her Heidi Montag face (and that’s after being photoshopped to shit) can be ignored… Here she is in Esquire….pushing the boundaries of smut cuz magazines are trying to compete with the internet and as long as they’re doing these photoshoots, they’re doing good enough by my low standards…

Kanye West’s Artsy ‘Power’ Video Gets Raves From Fans

“Ye is a visionary. Always pushing the boundaries. Great Video,” said one MTV News commenter. By James Dinh Kanye West (file) Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage It was a big night for music videos on Thursday as MTV debuted Eminem and Rihanna’s cinematic “Love the Way You Lie” clip and Kanye West’s portrait (as he has referred to it), “Power.” Despite Yeezy’s clip lasting a mere one minute and 43 seconds, fans all over the Internet are gushing about the video’s artistic angle. The clip finds the rapper in the midst of still image that slowly pans out to reveal a portrait of religion, sex and … you guessed it … power. “I have watched it like 5 times and still want to see more. It’s awesome and epic,” said MTV News reader Justin. Justin explained that any viewer’s inability to react to the clip is evidence enough that “Power” is true art. “The reason some of you don’t know what to say proves it’s art. The world isn’t as simple as simple minded people…lol,” he explained. Many complimented West for bringing creativity back to music videos. “Mr. West brought the Art back to Music Video’s. Man I could watch [sh–] like this all day…. Even with commercials…,” Charles commented. It wasn’t just our comments section that was flooded with feedback either. The rapper’s official website has been loaded with praise for the Marco Brambilla-directed clip. “Ye is a visionary. Always pushing the boundaries. Great Video. Respect you Yeezy and love everything you do man. Can’t wait to buy the album,” said Swayne. Another even joked that New York City’s Museum of Modern Art should change their address because of the video. “NYC MoMA should change their address to 11 Kanye West 53 Street New York, NY 10019. I expect a full exhibition there at some point, ‘Ye! Keep doing what your doing. You bless us all [with] your talent. Love from Norway,” said fan MR MIKE. But not all were pleased with the clip’s short duration. “Ok…now let’s talk about the ‘Power’ video/portrait. I dig the creativity and stunning art but all that hype for 2 mins? Come on, Kanye!” said tweeter @JessNoel . Another tweeter, @AbsolutGrammy , had an interesting argument, saying, “Yall missing the point of the video ‘no one man should have all that power’ Kanye had the world tune in to MTV to catch 45 seconds of POWER!” Do you agree with any of the opinions given above? Do you consider Kanye West a visionary after watching “Power”? Tell us what you think in the comments! Related Artists Kanye West

Lady Gaga’s Latest Bullshit of the Day

Lady Gaga is annoying as fuck. I’ve ripped into her so much that it’s almost pointless at this point. She just gets bigger and bigger cuz gay people are supportive….Her artistic vision is bullshit, her career is bullshit, her story is bullshit. She was created by the label to cater to the growing gay population, partially because she looked like a drag queen, gender bender, but also because she grew up with no friends, trying hard to get noticed, cuz with a face like that, you know there was a lot of nights spent crying in bed saying to herself “I’ll show them”….. She is disgusting, she is hideous, she should be done in a minute, cuz I figure we can just watch original Madonna videos, which are better cuz you can actually jerk off to the shit, instead of watching Gaga where you question your sexuality after watching the shit…. She is textbook…a cliche….who gets how to get noticed…she understands how to offend…but fuck…as I write this she’s at the point in the song where she’s dacing in her panties and that fucking face….is the real offensive thing in all this, followed closely by the fact that people buy into this and that she’s a fucking success….while looking like that… The highlight of the video is not the lingerie, or the gay man on gay man dancing to push the boundaries of conservative America, or even the latex nun outfit cuz sexy nuns are scandalous and get people talking, it’s the nice fake accent she’s rocking, cuz she’s a fucking clown. The highlight of Gaga’s career is that she’s made actual hot pussy rock the one-piece and sex things up a bit…something I always appreciate from ugly chicks….

Howard Stern: I believed Artie Lange was clean and sober

6 comments Subscribe Subscribe Howard Stern made revealing statements Wednesday morning about his relationship with co-host Artie Lange and why he trusted the heroin-addicted comedian’s claims that he was clean and sober in the months before his violent suicide attempt. The Artie Lange discussion launched from one of Robin Quivers’ news stories about the domestic violence charges levied against ultimate fighting champ Tito Ortiz by porn star and frequent Howard Stern Show guest Jenna Jameson. Ortiz is now stating that the altercation with Jameson erupted over the porn queen’s addiction to Oxycontin pills. Tito Ortiz arrested for assault on porn star Jenna Jameson (video) “Did it seem to you that she was on any drugs?” Quivers asked Stern regarding Jameson’s most recent in-studio Howard Stern Show appearance. “How would I know Robin?” sighed Stern. “No. She seemed coherent. Then again you’re talking to a guy who said Artie was clean and sober. I believed him. Don’t go by me. I’m not good at picking out anyone who’s high. That has been proven. I am just not keyed into that.” Watch the Artie Lange ‘Hurt’ video below Quivers then made a surprising critique of Stern’s handling of the Artie Lange issue. “Well maybe it’s because you’re just not interested in anybody but yourself?” she prosed. “That would be one of the reasons,” said Stern. “The other reason would be I’m not a ‘drug person’ and I’m not aware of that.” Quivers wasn’t letting Stern off the hook that easily. “No,” she stated. “But I mean you could notice if somebody’s SLEEPING.” Video: Bob Levy blames Howard Stern for Artie Lange’s suicide attempt During the 2009 Howard Stern Show season, co-host Artie Lange fell asleep on-air multiple times. At one point, Lange’s lack of consciousness became a featured bit on the show. The comedian was laid out on the in-studio couch with a microphone propped up next to him and the show proceeded live with Lange snoring along heartily as accompaniment. “That-that…I thought he was tired,” said Stern earnestly. “I honestly did. I said: ‘The guy’s worn out. He doesn’t know how to put himself to bed at night. He can’t-he’s busy with the game. He’s excited.” Chris Kanyon talked about suicide with Howard Stern and Artie Lange (photo slideshow) Quivers kept pressing: “You could notice that somebody’s, you know, losing the hair on his arms,…and,…eating out of control.” “I did notice that. I was the one who noticed that,” said Howard defensively. “I saw all that. But I still-I believed him. I believe people. I believe in man’s honesty. I didn’t think he would lie to me.” “All right,” replied Quivers with what sounded like a heaping spoonful of judgment, and then moved on to discuss the plight of Bret Michaels   who is recovering from a brain hemorrhage in an Arizona ICU. Click here for updates on Bret Michaels’ health status This is the first time Howard Stern Show fans have heard Robin Quivers directly criticize Stern regarding his passive endorsement of Artie Lange’s addict behavior on-air.
