Girls’ Generation: Five Things You Didn’t Know

‘There’s nine girls, but our teamwork is more amazing than our choreography,’ Tiffany tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi Girls’ Generation Photo: MTV News Nine member Korean Pop group Girls’ Generation are making a name for themselves in the U.S. The girls recently played an “epic” Madison Square Garden show, they’re releasing their first Stateside single later this month and their new music video for “The Boys” has nearly 15 million YouTube views after just two weeks. But although the group has had enormous success overseas, they’re still relatively unknown in America, which is why when MTV News sat down with Girls’ Generation (a.k.a. Soshi or SNSD to their international fans), we asked them to tell us what they thought new followers needed to know about them. “We have impeccable choreography, in-sync choreography,” Tiffany said. “Our music is upbeat, lively and energetic,” Sooyung added. Indeed, their knack for upbeat, radio-friendly songs has earned them success like the 2009 hit “Gee,” which is the longest-running #1 single on the Korean Broadcasting Charts. And with chart-topping songs and a devoted fanbase in countries like Korea and Japan, the group credits their success to one key thing: “Teamwork.” “There’s nine girls, but our teamwork is more amazing than our choreography,” Tiffany explained. “Beat That!” Music, however, isn’t the girls’ only talent: It turns out they’re also multilingual. “We have members that speak English, Japanese, Chinese and Korean,” Jessica told us. And if you wondered whether a girl group made up of nine women means navigating clashing personalities or even catfights, think again. According to the ladies, while things aren’t always perfect, the singers are as close as sisters. “We grew up together starting earliest age 10 and latest age 15, 16,” Tiffany said. “We’ve grown up and we’re one big happy family,” she added. “We know when to be around each other, when not to be around each other and as the time passes, we really appreciate each other’s presences and teamwork.” Girls’ Generation probably won’t be getting a break from each other anytime soon as they’re hoping to embark on a world tour, which Jessica said could kick off “maybe sometime soon, maybe next year.” “Since K-Pop is becoming a movement, we’re all looking forward to making this not into a movement, but for us to become part of a genre or become music here as well,” Tiffany said. “We definitely want a world tour. … Be careful, world, we’re on the way!” Have you checked out Girls’ Generation yet? ‘American Reunion’ Trailer Gets Gang Back Together

Kevin, Stifler, Finch and even Jim’s dad get in on the action in latest sneak peek. By Kevin P. Sullivan The cast of “American Reunion” Photo: Universal Pictures After a red-band trailer showed us just how little things have changed for Jim and Michelle and how they spend their free time, a brand-new theatrical trailer for “American Reunion” fills us in on what the rest of the gang has been up to. And by “the rest of the gang,” we mean absolutely everybody. The whole cast from the original film is back to celebrate their class reunion at East Great Falls High, even the castmembers who were missing from the third installment, 2003’s “American Wedding.” (We’re looking at you, Chris Klein .) The trailer finds the characters we used to know as horny high school kids well into their adult years, and not all of them are handling the change well. From the looks of the trailer, Jim and Michelle’s formerly fiery sex life has taken a backseat to raising their young son, Kevin now plays homemaker, and Stifler is still Stifler. Finch coolly rides in on a motorcycle, and Jim’s dad is three years’ single and looking for some company. But it wouldn’t be an “American Pie” movie if things didn’t get out of control, and they inevitably will. The boys promise to make the reunion “their bitch,” which says more than enough for what they have planned. Check out the trailer for an opportunity to revisit or at least catch a glimpse of all the returning characters and find hints for the shenanigans we’ll see when the movie, which hits theaters in April of next year. ‘Jersey Shore’ Crashes The Emmys

Host Jane Lynch plays Donatella Alberghetti Mangiana D’Borgia, a Jersey TV exec who ‘discovered’ the MTV reality stars. By Kara Warner Pauly D in a “Jersey Shore” sketch at the 2011 Emmys Photo: Fox Although we can generally expect the unexpected during awards shows, it’s safe to say that it was especially surprising to see the cast of “Jersey Shore” make an appearance at the 63rd annual Emmy Awards on Sunday night (September 18). Our favorite Seaside Heights crew popped up in a mock “state of TV news” story by Anderson Cooper. He introduced the segment, a spotlight on “prominent TV executive” Donatella Alberghetti Mangiana D’Borgia (Jane Lynch), as if it were a part of his show “Anderson Cooper 360,” and we learned the real story about how “Jersey Shore” came to be. “Thanks to me, now 50 percent of all television is set in Jersey,” Lynch as D’Borgia said, complete with a thick Jersey accent, with Cooper adding in voice over that D’Borgia is responsible for 114 different shows, one of them being “Jersey Shore,” for which she plucked “eight at-risk youths from obscurity and made them stars.” “I was already a DJ when I met her,” Pauly said. “At NPR.” “I found Vinny living in a walk-in freezer in a pizzeria,” D’Borgia revealed. “Now we get paid to drink!” Vinny chimed in with a smile. “Before I met Donatella, I was just Nicole, a Harvard undergrad,” Snooki revealed. “And now, I’m Snooki.” “She’s threatened to kill us numerous times,” Mike “The Situation” added over shots of Lynch’s character threatening the castmembers with violence. “She’s like a mother to me,” Pauly said. “Because she killed my mother.” The segment ended with footage of the crew play-fighting and D’Borgia expressing her undying love for her moneymakers. “Why do I do what I do?” Lynch as D’Borgia said to camera. “Because watching these kids is like Cirque Du Soleil. Freakin’ beautiful, just like Jersey.” Cooper finished off the piece with a stoic sign-off, calling D’Borgia and the “Jersey Shore” kiddos a “sobering look at the future of television.” Don’t miss “Jersey Shore” every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. ‘American Reunion’ First-Look Clip Hits The Net

‘American Pie’ alums pose for pictures at their high-school reunion in brand-new teaser. By Terri Schwartz Cast of “American Pie Reunion” Photo: Sam Jones / Universal Pictures The East Great Falls class of 1999 are coming back together for a good old-fashioned “American Reunion.” The first teaser for the fourth installment of the “American Pie” comedy series hit the Internet, courtesy of People.com , and the 60-second clip features a montage of pics of the main characters posing in a photo booth at their high-school reunion. “Get ready for one last slice,” the video teases in a voiceover. Starring Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Mena Suvari, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Seann William Scott and Eddie Kaye Thomas, the final movie in the “Pie” series follows the beloved characters as they come together for their 10-year reunion. A recently released plot synopsis teases that things aren’t so different for the old friends a decade later; Finch (Kaye Thomas), for one, is still longing for Stifler’s (Scott) mom. It turns out that the bond among the castmembers is also just as strong, even so many years after they filmed the ’99 original. People.com caught up with Scott and Biggs, and they talked about the impact “American Pie” has had on their lives. “We realized that no matter how much we may have changed individually, as a group, we will always be connected and have a special chemistry that arises immediately when we’re together,” Biggs said. According to Scott, that involves a lot of boys being boys. “In many respects, we’ve grown up a lot,” he said. “But on the other hand, we haven’t grown up at all. On set, Jason Biggs was farting up a storm, Chris Klein was belching, and Eddie Kaye Thomas and Biggs were hitting each other in [the groin].” Directed by “Harold & Kumar” helmers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, “American Reunion” has reunited its original cast en masse: Eugene Levy, Natasha Lyonne , Shannon Elizabeth and Jennifer Coolidge are all back. Newcomers Katrina Bowden and Chad Ochocinco also hit the reunion when the movie opens in theaters on April 6, 2012. ‘Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Stars Give Apes Top Billing

Tom Felton, James Franco and other castmembers say come for the apes, stay for the story … or just the apes. By Kara Warner Freida Pinto and James Franco at the “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” premiere Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images HOLLYWOOD — There is enough intrigue, presumed destruction and primate shenanigans in the trailers for “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” to entice more than just the fans of the 1968 original into theaters when the film opens next week. But when MTV News caught up with the principal castmembers at the Hollywood premiere on Thursday, we asked them to sell us on a few more of the film’s must-see elements, aside from their furry co-stars. Basically, if people come to see the apes, what will make them stay? “Wow, James [Franco], Freida [Pinto], Andy [Serkis], everyone else,” Tom Felton said, speaking to his co-stars’ appeal. “There is a mixture of CGI and special effects that we’ve never seen onscreen before, along with a strong story and a strong message: Humans can’t play God too much. We should not overstep our boundaries when it comes to manipulating Mother Nature.” Pinto countered that it’s all about the apes. “I think this is one of few films that really give them a voice as well,” she said. “Of course, ‘Planet of the Apes’ did as well, but ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ gives them a voice in a very revolutionary way.” One of the prominent primate voices heard is that of Caesar, played by seasoned motion-capture performer Andy Serkis, who, according to Franco, is the main reason why the film is any good. “The apes, I think Andy Serkis and WETA should get top billing,” Franco said. “They stole the show; they’re incredible.” Actor John Lithgow, who plays the father of Franco’s character, was the only one who thought folks will start out loving the apes and leave loving the humans. “They [will] stay for the people, and the extent to which the apes become people,” he said. “It’s a story, it’s a great story, that’s why they stay.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘Breaking Dawn’ Stars Bond Over Game Nights, Grocery Shopping

Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz laugh to MTV News about spending way too much time at Whole Foods during ‘Twilight’ downtime. By Kara Warner with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene Photo: MTV News Although the “Twilight” cast has wrapped filming on the franchise’s two-part final chapter, “Breaking Dawn,” their work together is far from over, considering the very last film won’t open in theaters until November 2012 and the young actors have plenty of promotional commitments to fulfill until then. But having spent so much time together, we wondered whether the castmembers ever get sick of one another. When MTV News caught up with Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, we put that question to them. We also asked the two stars if they had thought about how they’ll feel when it’s time to say goodbye to the series. “We’re never sick of each other,” Lutz said. “You do a project for seven months of your life, and you’re really just anxious to get home. I was really excited to see my dogs, [sleep] in my own bed. And then … we’re here at Comic-Con; we’re going to be here next year. We have a lot of press and a lot of opportunities to hang out with the fans, and that’s what I really look forward to,” he admitted. “Playing my role of Emmett — I love doing these movies — but by no way are we saying goodbye. We have a good couple years ahead of us and, you know, it’s just great to work with best friends for so many movies,” Lutz continued. “We see a lot of each other and we’re all blessed to be working outside of ‘Twilight,’ but it’s nice to all come together again.” Discussing how the best friends spend their downtime during filming, Lutz and Greene revealed that they geek out with board games and grocery shopping. ” ‘DanceDance Revolution,’ Lutz said. “Hasbro sent a lot of games to Ashley and I, so we have a lot of game nights, which is fun; cook, [watch] movies.” “Grocery shopping at Whole Foods,” Greene added of another production activity. “Which is terrible because I spend hundreds of dollars there by the time [we finish],” Lutz admitted. “You don’t understand,” Greene laughed, “They knew us by name there and it was the fun thing [to do], like, ‘Wanna go grocery shopping?’ Because then we could cook,” she explained. “Super, super cool.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Super 8’ Cast Laugh Off Film’s Mystery Theories

‘They said Chuck Norris was in the train,’ star Riley Griffiths tells us at the movie’s premiere in Los Angeles. By Kara Warner Riley Griffiths, Kyle Chandler and Elle Fanning Photo: Getty Images LOS ANGELES — One of the more exciting things about the new J.J. Abrams-directed, Steven Spielberg-produced thriller “Super 8” is the overall mystery of the film. From the basic plot details that have been released, very little is known about what the heck the movie is about. Based on word of mouth and one key moment in the film’s trailers that show something trying to escape a locked compartment on a train, there is a very mysterious “thing” or secret terrorizing a small town. MTV News headed out to the film’s star-studded premiere in Los Angeles on Wednesday night to find out from the castmembers what crazy theories they’ve heard about what the “it” or “thing” or “big secret” is all about. Their answers were surprisingly varied and all over the map. “I’ve seen on IMDb that a lot of people thought it was a giant lion,” Zach Mills said. “I don’t know why. That’s the craziest thing I’ve heard.” “The funniest thing that someone has guessed what it is, they said Chuck Norris was in the train,” Riley Griffiths revealed. “That’s probably the funniest thing I’ve heard so far.” “I think someone said once on Facebook or something that it was the cube that Elle [Fanning] and Joel [Courtney] are looking at, and that [they think] it’s some creature,” Gabriel Basso said of a moment where Fanning and Courtney’s characters are examining a vibrating white cube. “That was really funny. I laughed.” Ryan Lee’s conspiracy theorists or secret guessers seemed to think that the mystery revolves around someone or something with a canine obsession. “[They think] that the thing has a dog fetish,” Lee revealed. “That’s the funniest thing somebody has said to me about the mystery of the movie. They think that thing is hoarding dogs in its train, I guess.” And last but not least, the adult in the group, actor Kyle Chandler, recalled a theorist who thinks the mystery revolves around a certain fever- and frenzy-inducing pop star. “Someone suggested to me that it was Justin Bieber,” he said. “And it could be.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Super 8.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

‘Hall Pass’ Stars Explain: Why Is Male Nudity So Funny?

‘It’s probably the awkwardness of the situation,’ Jason Sudeikis tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Jason Sudeikis and Owen Wilson in “Hall Pass” Photo: Warner Bros. For anyone familiar with the films of the brothers Farrelly, Peter and Bobby, there is an element of raunch and ridiculousness in each of their films — “Dumb & Dumber,” “There’s Something About Mary,” “Shallow Hal,” etc. — that seems to know no bounds. The latest addition to their body of work is “Hall Pass,” in which Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis play two suburban dwellers seemingly bored with their marriages. Incredibly enough, they both manage to secure “hall passes” — one-week vacations from their marriages and their wives — to do whatever they please. Naturally, plenty of Farrelly-brand wackiness ensues, including an extended scene that features not one, but two prominent pieces of male anatomy. When MTV News caught up with the castmembers recently, we asked what makes penises so funny, particularly to men, since more often than not, it seems they find them far more laugh-out-loud funny than women do. “Probably because we have them and we use them for various puppetry purposes,” Sudeikis offered. “Yeah,” Wilson agreed, adding that when guys laugh at seeing male anatomy onscreen, it’s like a laugh of recognition. “Whoa! Hey!” he exclaimed with a grin. “I think it’s probably less the penis that makes us laugh and more the reaction,” Sudeikis continued. “It’s probably the awkwardness of the situation.” “Yeah, awkwardness,” Wilson said. “If they weren’t laughing they’d be crying.” Luckily, Jenna Fischer, who plays Wilson’s wife in the film, weighed in as well to offer an unbiased female opinion on the subject. “I just appreciate in this film that since they put boobs in, they put boy parts in too,” she said. “I think it’s a full-service film in that way. All nudity is allowed,” she said with authority, which we told her was an excellent point. “It’s just fair.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Hall Pass.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

‘Breaking Dawn’ Won’t Be Filmed In 3-D

But ‘Twilight’ studio Summit Entertainment says it’s too early to tell if the films will be converted to 3-D in post-production. By Kara Warner “Breaking Dawn” Photo: Little, Brown and Company Despite the continued popularity and rush for film studios to make everything in three dimensions, “Breaking Dawn” — both Part 1 and Part 2 — will not be shot in 3-D. Gossip Cop broke the news via a source at Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the mega-successful franchise. “Neither film is being shot in 3-D,” the source told the site, adding that any other buzz from the rumor mill was “fabricated.” A rep from Summit confirmed the story to MTV News. Although the two parts of “Dawn” will not be filmed in 3-D, this does not mean that post-production 3-D effects and/or conversion won’t be added. It is reportedly too early in production for the studio to make that call. We already know that a few of the castmembers would be up for a few 3-D elements. Kristen Stewart told MTV News in June that Bella in 3-D would be “awesome.” “I’m probably speaking out of line or whatever, but I think it would be awesome,” she said. “Nobody knows what it’s like to look through the eyes of a vampire. What if [Bella] opens her eyes to this extraordinary world? It could be cool.” Taylor Lautner seemed a bit more cautious about such an ambitious approach. “Usually, 3-D is best when it takes you into another world,” he explained “I could see it going both ways. As long as we have the story line down and as long as we bring what was written on the pages in the book to life, then we’ll be fine no matter what we do.” What do you think about “Breaking Dawn” not going 3-D? The Gaslight Anthem Rate ‘Jersey Shore’

Drummer Benny Horowitz has some opinions about MTV’s hit show. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Elias The Gaslight Anthem Photo: MTV News As you can probably tell from virtually every single thing every written about them, rough-and-tumble rockers the Gaslight Anthem are from New Jersey — and proudly so. So, of course, after they field the obligatory Bruce Springsteen question — something they’ve always brought upon themselves, especially with their new album, the just-released American Slang — the follow-up question always seems to be about MTV’s hit show “Jersey Shore.” Rather to their chagrin … “People say it’s this ‘movement,’ but is it really a ‘movement?’ ” drummer Benny Horowitz laughed backstage at the Hard Rock Calling fest in London. “As somebody from Jersey, that sh– has been there forever. So to me, they’ve been the reason I’ve stayed out of Seaside Heights, New Jersey, for about 15 years. “It’s funny,” he continued. “Literally, now, entertainment-wise, all people can associate with New Jersey is ‘The Sopranos’ and ‘Jersey Shore.’ And as a proud Jersey-ian — as somebody from the Garden State, the beautiful place it is, with our beaches and our ‘Jersey Fresh’ corn , the Bouncing Souls and all these amazing things — there’s actually a Web site called ReclaimNewJersey.com.” However, what seems to get under Horowitz’s proud New Jersey skin more than anything, it’s that some of the castmembers aren’t even from New Jersey. To him, it’s a matter of authenticity. “[Some] of the are from, like, Long Island,” he laughed. “I don’t know … it’s different there now. If they still drove El Caminos, I’d be cool with it.” Related Artists The Gaslight Anthem
