It’s been a little more than a year since Zayn Malik quit One Direction to pursue a solo career, and by all accounts, it seemed to be a solid decision. In January, he released his debut solo track “Pillowtalk,” which quickly shot to the number one spot on the iTunes charts. The song was a tremendous radio hit, even though Harry Styles may not have loved it . His success earned him a headlining spot at the Capital Summertime Ball music festival in the UK on June 11, which also featured artists like Ariana Grande, Nick Jonas and Lukas Graham. But at the last minute, Zayn pulled out, citing crippling anxiety as the cause. Just one and a half hours before his scheduled performance, the singer shared this message to Instagram: “To all those people who have been waiting to see me perform at the Capital Summertime Ball today.. “I flew into the U.K. last night to appear in my home country in front of my family, friends, and most importantly, my U.K. fans. “Unfortunately my anxiety that has haunted me throughout the last few months around live performances has gotten the better of me…” “With the magnitude of the event I have suffered the worst anxiety of my career.” “I cannot apologise enough but I want to be honest with everyone who has patiently waited to see me, I promise I will do my best to make this up to everybody I’ve let down today. “I know those who suffer anxiety will understand and I hope those who don’t can empathises with my situation.” Fans might be initially confused. After all, Zayn has experience performing in front of many thousands of people during his time with One Direction. But this sounds like more than a simple case of nerves. For those who suffer on a deep level, anxiety can indeed be debilitating. Last night, Omar Mateen allegedly entered a gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla. and opened fire, killing 50 people and injuring at least 53 more in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. Orlando police later shot the suspect. He was 29. While police continue to investigate, Mateen’s ex-wife tells The Washington Post that he was unstable and violent. “He was not a stable person,” said the ex-wife, who chose to remain anonymous out of safety concerns. “He beat me. He would just come home and start beating me up because the laundry wasn’t finished or something like that.” She revealed that they had met online and got married in 2009. They moved into a two-bedroom condo in Fort Pierce, Fla., owned by Mateen’s family. She confirmed that Mateen was born to Afghan parents but was born in New York. “He seemed like a normal human being,” she said, noting that he was not religious at the time and she knew of no connection to radical Islam. The ex-wife said she finally escaped the marriage when her parents learned of Mateen’s assaults on her. The ex-wife added she never spoke with Mateen after that. The two were officially divorced in 2011. President Obama has referred to the tragedy as “an act of terror and an act of hate.” Speaking to NBC News, Mateen’s father, Mir Seddique, said his son’s crime “has nothing to do with religion,” indicating that it was motivated by hate. He explained that Mateen became enraged two months prior after seeing two men kissing in Miami and believes the incident may have prompted his heinous actions. “We are saying we are apologizing for the whole incident,” Seddique said. “We weren’t aware of any action he is taking. We are in shock like the whole country.”

The sixth season of Game of Thrones may be the show’s most eventful to date, but with the possible exception of the death of Hodor (a fairly minor, albeit beloved character), it has yet to hit us with a stunner on par with the Red Wedding or the execution of Ned Stark. That didn’t change with “No One,” but the stage is certainly set for a bloody and jaw-dropping conclusion. Appropriately, the season’s eighth installment opened with a reenactment of one of the most memorable deaths in the recent history of Westeros – that of His Douchiness, Prince Joffrey. As the show’s been wont to do this season, it answered any questions left over from the previous week’s cliffhanger right off the bat: Arya is alive, and the actress she was once tasked with assassinating is both a badass with a history of violence and a remarkably solicitous mother figure. Perhaps the clearest way that this season has stood out from the five that preceded it (aside from the aforementioned breakneck pacing and the fact that the plot has progressed beyond the end point of George R.R. Martin’s books) is its humor. The scene in which the Hound quickly dispatches several members of the Brotherhood Without Banners may have been grim, but it also featured some one-liners worthy of a top-notch ’80s Die Hard knockoff (“You’re sh-t at dying, you know that?”) Speaking of badass revenants (Thank you, Leo, for teaching us that word.), we learn that Daenerys has become a messiah figure thanks to fervent preaching from yet another red priestess. We also get the long awaited return of Tyrion and Varys, both absent in the previous two episodes. Sadly, however, it seems that Stewie-and-Brian-esque partnership is at least temporarily at an end as Varys bids adieu to Meereen. He plans to return, but the hint of sadness in Tyrion’s voice reminds us that these two may be parting ways for good. From there, it’s back to Kings Landing, where Cersei, still butting heads with the increasingly powerful High Sparrow and hi Faith Militant, protects herself with the otherworldly badassery of the other Clegane brother. Yeah, we barely do, too!) Meanwhile, in the tent (where they’re not having sex, thank you very much), Jaime and Brienne engage in more diplomatic, maneuvering, and the pieces begin to fall into place for the wars to come. Brienne wants to talk the Blackfish into surrendering Riverrun in exchange for safe passage north for a f-ckton of troops. Jaime has his doubts, but he agrees to the deal, possibly out of lingering affection for his former traveling partner/captor, Brienne. Lesser shows would have Brienne melt Brynden Tully’s heart and triumph against the odds, but on GoT, she’s shot down just as Jaime predicted. From there, we see Cersei victimized by a betrayal worthy of … well, her , as Tommen sets a date for her trial – and outlaws trial by combat, thus negating her big, brutish ace in the hole, the Mountain. Tyrion waxes poetic about booze some more (Note how the show has been grouping scenes featuring the Lannisters together.) and continues his efforts to get Missandei and Grey Worm to loosen up and see things his way. Side note: How long until the Imp’s Delight wine hits shelves? We imagine a dry pinot noir. We’re bummed that we didn’t get to hear the punchline to Tyrion’s booze-jackass-honeycomb, but his attempts at getting his cohorts to lighten up actually appear to be working – at least until the masters sail into port with war flags flying. Jaime visits Edmure Tully whose imprisonment is reminiscent of his own in Season 2. (No accident, we’re sure.) Edmure’s sorry state and the return of Brienne combine to make Jaime reflect on his previous interactions with the Tullys, which in turn cause him to realize the similarities between Cersei and Catelynn But as his threat to launch Edmure’s kid into the river reminds us, that doesn’t mean he’s gone soft. Jaime effectively persuades Edmure to enter the castle (He is the lord of Riverrun, after all.) and order Brynden’s troops to stand down. The Blackfish meets his demise nobly, Brienne and Pod escape with a wistful wave goodbye from Jaime, and like that, the weird tangential Riverrun storyline comes to an end. At least the Starks got more troops for their raid on Winterfell? With her peeps at Meereen under siege, Daenerys makes the most hardcore entry in history. (It’s tough to beat travel by dragon in terms of awesomeness.) But will it be enough to fend off the masters? Yeah, most likely. The big reunion episode continues as the Hound comes face-to-face with the Brotherhood members who nearly killed him, and drops a reference to his famous chicken dinner with Arya. (Oh, and kills the dicks who murdered Al Swearengen.) “Lots of horrible sh-t in this world gets done for something larger than ourselves,” the Hound says in a sadly topical refutation to the Brotherhood’s arguments. Despite his initial resistance, however, it looks as though appealing to the Hound’s newfound morality may have won the Hound over to their side. After that, we’re back to Arya (Weiss and Benioff are clearly intent on reminding us of how all these far-flung storylines are related.), who gives new meaning to blood orange while tumbling through a farmer’s market to evade the Waif. Though we can’t help but feel that we were deprived of a badass fight scene, it’s nice to see Arya make short work of the Waif and reclaim her name. With Arya’s stand against Jaqen (She lets him live as a thanks for saving her life so long ago.), another piece falls into place for what fans believe will be the most epic pair of episodes in the show’s six-season run. You might know J.K. Simmons as “that guy.” That guy who played the dad in Juno , that guy who won the Academy Award in Whiplash , that guy from the Spiderman movies. Basically, he’s a character actor who’s been in a lot of stuff. You may have also heard him referred to as “that bald guy,” but likely never “that insanely ripped sexagenarian.” Yep, the pic above is J.K. Simmons, not Santa Claus on steroids. And yes, the long white beard is new, too, but it’s the muscles that are making jaws drop. Did you hear the news that Khloe Kardashian is pregnant ? I know, it’s crazy, but that’s what Life & Style is reporting. But that’s not all. The magazine additionally lists a number of men who could potentially be the father. Among the possibilities: Lamar Odom (natch), Odell Beckham, Jr. , French Montana, James Harden and Scott Disick. Scott Disick! It’s the first we’ve even heard an inkling that Scott and Khloe have been doing the horizontal mambo, but maybe the graphic designer at the mag just needed to fill up that fifth space. Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas are not living a fairy tale. It may just feel that way to the Once Upon a Time co-stars right now. Because they just welcomed their second child into the world! As those who watch Once Upon a Time online or on television know very well, Goodwin and Dallas play Snow White and Prince Charming on ABC’s hit drama. They fell in love on the set and have welcomed their second child, E! News has confirmed. Sources tell the outlet that the baby boy named is named Hugo Wilson Dallas and that he was born on June 1 in Los Angeles. Hugo joins big brother Oliver Finlay Dallas in this newly-expanded family. Goodwin and Dallas got married in April of 2014 and welcomed Oliver into the world just a month later. The Juice is once again loose on the Internet. In an image released on Monday by Nevada’s Department of Corrections, O.J. Simpson is posing for his first photo since July 13. And he looks pretty darn happy to be standing for another mug shot, doesn’t he? The picture above was snapped this week at Lovelock Correctional Center, where Simpson has been a prisoner ever since he was convicted of armed robbery back in 2008. Indeed, the probable murderer was arrested for breaking into a Las Vegas hotel room nine years ago, joining a group of other men in making an attempt to steal some sports memorabilia. Simpson is eligible for parole next year. According to one former friend of the ex-running back, Simpson may admit to killing Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman upon his eventual release from prison. But we find that pretty hard to believe. We also doubt he’ll try to hook up with the Jenners upon his release. Three years later, a civil jury found him liable for the double murders and ordered him to pay $33.5 million in damages. The case has been back in the news of late because FX aired a mesmerizing miniseries based on the investigation and trial this spring; while ESPN and ABC will premiere a six-part documentary on June 11 titled “O.J. Theresa Saldana, the actress best known for her work on the acclaimed televisions series The Commish and the iconic Martin Scorsese film Raging Bull , has passed away at the age of 61. Saldana had been hospitalized due to an unknown illness since last week. She reportedly passed away surrounded by family and friends this morning. Though she racked up dozens of film and television credits, Saldana’s most lasting contribution might be her work as a victims’ advocate following a highly-publicized attack that nearly took her life at the height of her fame. In 1982, Saldana was attacked and stabbed by a fan named Arthur Richard Jackson, who became obsessed after seeing Saldana’s performances in Raging Bull and Defiance . She was stabbed ten times. The attack was so aggressive that Jackson’s blade was bent. Saldana’s life was saved by a delivery man who heard her screams from a nearby apartment and intervened. Saldana played herself in a TV movie based on the incident, and she went on to found the organization Victims for Victims. Along with other survivors, she successfully lobbied to push through two pieces of legislation protecting potential stalking victims. Law makers have been quoted as saying that the 1990 anti-stalking law and the 1994 Driver’s Privacy protection Act may have never found the support they needed were it not for Saldana’s involvement. Saldana appeared on an astonishing 37 television shows over the course of her career, including such long-running favorites as Law & Order and MacGyver .
