Maybe we have Coming To America to blame…but it seems like we can’t go two days without seeing some star in public wearing some sort of animal print like they’re from Zamunda. Sometimes they look sexy, other times not so much.
Wiz talks to MTV News on the set of his Jake Davis-directed video. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Matt Elias Wiz Khalifa on the set of “Roll Up” Photo: MTV News Oh, that Wiz Khalifa is so clever. The “Black and Yellow” star followed up his breakout single, which reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, with “Roll Up.” When he spoke to MTV News late last year, he teased the song as a nod to his favorite pastime — his album is called Rolling Papers , after all. “The next single is called ‘Roll Up,’ surprisingly,” he coyly explained with a laugh. The song, however, is anything but smoke inducing: It’s more of the skirt-chasing variety. “I was trying to be funny, be clever as possible,” Wiz told us recently on the set of the video for “Roll Up.” “It’s for the chicks. It’s for guys to sing to chicks. And it’s just a fun song.” In the clip, directed by Jake Davis (Drake and Trey Songz’s “Successful”), Wiz said he is “courting a female that I’m into.” Instead of real-life love interest Amber Rose, however, the Pittsburgh rapper has his sights set on the female lead in the video, Bad Boy recording artist Cassie. “It’s really, really awesome,” Wiz said of her casting. After being named one of MTV News’ 11 for ’11 celebrities to look out for in the new year, Wiz has managed to put a lot on his plate. He’s gracing the cover of the new Rolling Stone , he’s scheduled to start the Green Carpet Tour next month, and he and Snoop Dogg are finishing up their “High School” movie and music joint effort. But first, Wiz has to drop his album — Rolling Papers , his major-label debut, is set for a March 29 release — after a long rise to stardom for the former underground favorite. “I been waiting to put an album out for a long time,” he said. “But I feel like now my sound, at this point, has grown and matured and it’s right where it needs to be at for people to get that perfect pull and debut album from me. I’m ready to deliver.” Are you awaiting the release of Rolling Papers ? Tell us below! Related Artists Wiz Khalifa
‘Idol’ puts up biggest non-sports Thursday ratings numbers since 2007. By Gil Kaufman Steven Tyler holds up his swear sign on “American Idol” Photo: FOX Simon who? Perhaps putting to rest any fears that “American Idol” would nosedive without iconic judge Simon Cowell, Thursday night’s first elimination episode of season 10 put up some stellar numbers for the singing competition. On a night when most of the competition on rival networks consisted of reruns (including, count ’em, six episodes in a row of “The Office” on NBC!) after the vaults were emptied last month during sweeps, “Idol” raked in 25 million viewers to win the ratings crown. In fact, the impressive numbers for “Idol” gave Fox the most-watched non-sports Thursday night number of any network over the past four years. The two-hour extravaganza, which not only shaped the top 10 , but also featured six performances by singers vying to score three wild card spots — not to mention the debut of judge Jennifer Lopez’s “On the Floor” music video — was a 29 percent increase of last season’s first elimination night, according to Billboard With an 8.1 rating in the 18 to 49 demo, numbers were also up 13 percent over last Thursday’s “AI” episode. As you might expect, ratings climbed during the pivotal final half-hour of the broadcast, going from 25.96 million between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. to 26.66 million for the final half-hour. The good ratings news bodes well for the start of live competition next week, when new judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez will have to finally show their stuff during two real-time broadcasts a week after charming viewers during the season’s pre-taped episodes. I don’t like these pictures at all, sure Vanessa Hudgens is kinda cute and all that, but she’s covering up the best parts. This is why hot young celebrities should stay on the west coast, the weather rarely gets cold enough to warrant covering up their breasts. East coast in the winter sucks frozen balls. Anyhow, I can think of a few ways to keep her warm. Call me and we can discuss the logistics.

MTV News visited the ‘Game of Shadows’ set on its final day of production. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Downey Jr. on the set of “Sherlock Holmes” Photo: MTV News MTV News’ arrival on the U.K. set of “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” marked a melancholy occasion. Not because things weren’t going well on the sequel to 2009’s $520 million-grossing hit, or because stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law weren’t happy to see us. But our January visit coincided with Law’s final day in production, and he and Downey felt like they were just getting warmed up. “We were talking so much about the possibilities of more, and loads of ideas and situations, on the first one,” said Law, who returns to the fold as sidekick Watson to Downey’s ass-kicking Holmes. “We’ve got even more ideas now, and I hope we’re going to be allowed to do another one again.” “We’re clinging on to this thing,” Downey laughed. “It’s going to have claw marks in it when we let go.” Warner Bros. hardly wants the duo to relinquish the new franchise anytime soon. While the characters are based on Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic 19th-century literary creations — ones that hardly had the contemporary appeal of a caped superhero — the success of the ’09 flick was anything but assured. Yet under the steady guidance of director Guy Ritchie and keying off the bromantic chemistry of its two male leads, “Sherlock Holmes” grossed $62 million over its opening weekend — even as it went head-to-head with “Avatar.” Now they’re back, and they’ve asked Noomi Rapace , the star of the Swedish-language “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” trilogy, to join up as a gypsy. Or as Ritchie put it to us, “A gypsy princess with balls — that’s what Noomi brings to the table.” The sequel focuses on a web of conspiracies overseen by nefarious Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris). After Rapace’s gypsy meets up with Holmes and Watson in London, the story pushes out of the city and takes on a far greater scope than the first one. But ultimately, like that ’09 film, whether or not the sequel works will rest greatly on the sizzling back-and-forth between Downey and Law. From what we saw on the U.K. set, no one should be worried. “It feels a bit like a relay team,” Law said their dynamic. “He leads, then he hands the baton off to me, but it’s done subconsciously.” “I also think there are two kinds of performers,” added Downey. “I’ve heard of, and I guess I’ve experienced the kind that are like, ‘You want to play ping-pong? Because I’ll kick your ass!’ Everything is about, ‘I’ll do it better than you.’ Whereas, we become this third thing, this brotherhood.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
