Oksana Grigorieva Source Describes Mel Gibson Rampage; Says Star Threatened to Hit Baby

Did Mel Gibson threaten to hit his own daughter? That’s the latest allegation from her mother and his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva in their ugly feud. According to Oksana, Mel said he would “hit” little Lucia, their baby girl, during an explosive blow-up with his ex-lover, saying “‘Take her! I will hit her!” A February 18 incident was the catalyst for Oksana to walk out on the star, taking their daughter with her. Many, many irate Mel Gibson rants followed. The day after, Mel supposedly texted her to say he ” wasn’t safe for you last night.” His nicotine withdrawal may be responsible, in part, for the rampage. On the 18th, Mel and Oksana gathered in the lush grounds of the actor’s Malibu mansion, for a tree-and-placenta planting ceremony in honor of Lucia. But what should have been a joyous occasion turned ugly, Oksana says, when Mel became angry, accusing her of “smiling too much” at the gardener. Was Oksana Grigorieva checking out the gardener? “Oksana has recounted that Lucia began crying, so she went back inside – and Mel followed her in,” a source, familiar with Oksana’s testimony, reveals. “When they got inside, Mel started ridiculing Okana’s accent … In response, she said she rolled her eyes at Mel, which made him even more angry.” The source said Grigorieva apologized to an irate Mel and “begged for forgiveness,” but Mel responded that Oksana was always irritated with him. “Oksana said she told Mel that his comment was she was only irritated when he accused her of smiling at the gardener and made fun of her accent.” Grigorieva then recalled : “This set off Mel and he flew into a rage.” In the hours that followed, Mel returned to the house, after leaving for a break, at which point, “Oksana said Mel told her he needed to leave the house again, in order to show her and Lucia what ‘mean’ really is,” said the source. “He also supposedly told Oksana, in regards to Lucia, ‘Take her! I will hit her. I have got to go,’” and Oksana took him at his word, taking Lucia to one of Mel’s other properties, in Sherman Oaks, Calif. He then started to call. And call … and call, and call … Oksana had already accused Gibson of hitting Lucia and bruising her face during on January 6, the same night he allegedly punched her mother. The 40-year-old Russian beauty was holding the baby when the star supposedly slugged her in the face, causing damage to two of her teeth. As he did this, he also allegedly hit baby Lucia, bruising her chin. The abuse photos of Oksana surfacing online have been cast doubt upon, however, as she reportedly did not produce them during her mediation sessions with the actor. Gibson has not been charged with a crime, denies ever assaulting Oksana, and has accused her of trying to extort him for money with the tapes. Who do you believe?

How Did Kenneth Branagh Get ‘Thor’ Job? Marvel Chief Explains

‘He chased it pretty hard,’ Kevin Feige tells MTV News at Comic-Con. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Chris Hemsworth in “Thor” Photo: Paramount Pictures When Marvel Studios announced it was making a live-action movie about its god of thunder, “Thor,” fans of the comic books were mostly excited. But when the studio revealed its choice of director, seasoned Shakespearian thespian Kenneth Branagh, the reactions were surprised, and decidedly mixed. Now that the trailer is out and the cast and crew have made the rounds at San Diego Comic-Con, however, it seems the buzz is mostly positive for Branagh. When MTV News caught up with Marvel chief Kevin Feige during our live-stream show at Comic-Con, he revealed how Branagh landed the gig. “He chased it pretty hard,” Feige said. “We had a number of good meetings. He flew himself over to meet with me. We had a number of phone calls, a number of sessions — more meetings than I’ve ever had with a director before we’d brought them on.” Feige added that through those first meetings with Branagh, he quickly learned that the actor had a lot more invested in the character than Feige originally realized. “He’s a big, giant ‘Thor’ fan,” Feige said. “He clearly is a very literate guy when it comes to Shakespeare, and when it comes to almost anything, including Marvel’s ‘Thor,’ which was a surprise to us. “Also, just talking about movies,” he continued. “We love the same kind of movies, we love the same kind of things, and when you have someone who’s as talented as Ken is in one arena and bring him into another one, he is going to succeed.” Feige went on to say that Marvel was fully behind Branagh in every step of his filmmaking process. “We have the department heads, we have the great resources to help him,” he said. “What he brings to us is bringing our characters to life in a big way.” For breaking comic book movie news, columns and more — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .

Media Applaud Teen Abortion on ‘Friday Night Lights’

NBC’s “Friday Night Lights” wants to tackle more than football players. In a bold move for scripted dramas, which usually shy away from taboo issues, the July 9 episode of the network drama featured a high school-aged character deciding to have an abortion, declaring it was “the right thing to do.” The plotline earned praise from many in the media. Entertainment Weekly’s Ken Tucker praised “Friday Night Lights” for delivering “one of its finest hours ever.” In a July 10 blog post , The Atlantic’s Tony Lee noted that he was impressed by the “nuanced, apolitical manner” that the writers used to convey the dilemma facing this pregnant teenage girl. Lee described the episode as “devoid of political posturing or grandstanding,” ignoring the fact that the writers’ decision to include a pro-choice decision is itself a political statement. While the characters did not deal lightly with the issue, the show’s justification for the abortion relied on several common pro-choice arguments, including economics and self-interest. The pregnant student, Becky Sproles, worried she wouldn’t be able to care for a baby. Her confidant, high school principal Tami Taylor, advised Sproles that she would tell her own daughter to “think about her life, think about what’s important to her and what she wants.” That position earned support from Slate . Writer Emily Bazelon said Taylor’s advice for Sproles to “think about her life” was “the perfect thing” to say in that situation.  New York Times writer Ginia Bellafante called the storyline “remarkable,” noting the rarity of abortions on television shows since the 1970s. Bellafante said that unlike more recent shows that presented both arguments in the abortion debate fairly, “Friday Night Lights” chose instead to hold to its “quasi-Marxist understanding that economics dictate everything.” The episode did include mentions of alternatives to abortion, including crisis pregnancy centers and adoption agencies. But Bellafante acknowledged that the “opposing view,” that is, the pro-life view, “was depicted as obtuse and out of touch.”

‘Avatar’ Sex Scene Might Be In Extended Film, Sam Worthington Hints

‘There’s a sex scene that everyone keeps talking about, which is going to be unique,’ Worthington says, laughing. By Todd Gilchrist Sam Worthington Photo: MTV News While it’s not entirely clear what will be included in the extended version of “Avatar” slated for release on August 27, the film’s star, Sam Worthington, hinted at what could be in the film’s extra eight minutes during a press day for Full Clip Productions , the comic-book imprint Worthington launched with his partners John Schwarz and Michael Schwarz at Radical Studios. “There were several different hunts that the characters go on,” Worthington told MTV. “There’s a sex scene that everyone keeps talking about, which is going to be unique,” he added, laughing. “But there’s a lot of other stuff to do with the Na’vi, and then there’s also a lot of live-action stuff as well.” Since it became the biggest movie of all time, James Cameron has been largely mum on details about a follow-up to his 2009 blockbuster “Avatar,” probably due less to secrecy than the long gaps between his projects. In the meantime, Fox announced earlier this week that it will re-release the film in theaters with eight new minutes of footage. Although the running time of the original cut of the film was well over two hours, Worthington indicated that any excised footage was removed because it was already long enough, and Cameron didn’t want to push the audiences’ patience too far. “That [material] got taken out because of time constraints, and at the time, not knowing if the movie was going to be successful or not.” It remains to be seen how much more of “Avatar” audiences will want to see, at least in theaters. And although Cameron hasn’t volunteered more than vague details about sequels, it will be interesting to see how quickly even its most fervent fans will move on to thoughts of a follow-up. But Worthington indicated that if the director wanted to release more versions that are eight minutes longer than the last one, he could probably do so for years to come without exhausting his yet-unseen supply. “I think he’s got another eight hours of footage, to be honest with you,” Worthington said. “So I’ll be surprised to see what the eight minutes is.” Will you see the extended version of “Avatar”? ‘Twilight’ Author Stephenie Meyer Talks ‘Midnight Sun,’ Potential Spin-Offs

‘I’d be really happy … if I could just pick up that thread of thought and go with it,’ she tells MTV News of the leaked ‘Sun.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Stephenie Meyer Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images When MTV News caught up with “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer at the “Eclipse” premiere in Los Angeles last week, she reiterated that her “burned-out on vampires” sentiments are still preventing her from finishing “Midnight Sun.” “This is really fun,” she said, referencing the big premiere and extensive red carpet, “But I am burned out on vampires. It’s like homework now. I think some of that is working on the [‘The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide’], and it really is like homework, because I love to write and I want to write with joy.” When asked whether “Sun,” the unfinished “Twilight” companion book told from Edward’s perspective, would be completely different from the version that leaked online in 2008, Meyer was undecided. “I’d be really happy if it was not different, if I could just pick up that thread of thought and go with it,” she said. “One of the things that makes it hard to write is knowing people are going to say, ‘This is so much worse than the original’ or ‘This is so much better.’ … That’s why you don’t want your early drafts leaked, because the magic of editing, you kind of see the man behind the curtain at that point.” Regarding her recent “Twilight” spin-off book “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner,” Meyer was reluctant to speculate on what other characters in her “Twilight” world could be featured in future standalone books. “I don’t know if there are spin-off books,” she said. “We’re doing the guide, and a lot of those backstories I was telling [screenwriter] Melissa [Rosenberg] about, that’s where the source is. … I think a lot of those stories will be out there with the guide — not in a very long version, but I think, in a way, people feel like they know all those stories.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . The Case Against More Installments of Toy Story

Aside from the brief blip of Toy Story 2 in 1999, it seemed that Pixar was a company averse to creating sequels; now, though, they’re positively swamped by them. Toy Story 3. Cars 2 . A second installment of Monsters Inc . And now, while Toy Story 3 had been commonly regarded as the end of that franchise, director Lee Unkrich is reopening the door. “We know that people love the characters, love Woody and Buzz, and would hate to say good-bye to them completely,” Unkrich told MSN. “I don’t know that there would ever be a ‘ [Toy Story] 4 .’ We don’t have any plans for one — but we are trying to find ways to keep the characters alive. We have announced we’re going to do a short film in front of Cars 2 that uses the Toy Story characters. We’re going to keep them alive; they’re not going away forever.” What I’m saying is… maybe they should?

Nic Cage In Talks For ‘Ghost Rider’ Sequel

Studio wants directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor to helm Marvel superhero flick. By Adam Rosenberg Nicolas Cage in “Ghost Rider” Photo: Sony It looks like Johnny Blaze will ride again. Columbia Pictures is gearing up to release a sequel to the 2007 Marvel Comics-spawned superhero flick “Ghost Rider,” titled “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.” The Hollywood Reporter ‘s Heat Vision Blog reveals that the studio is working to bring back the first film’s star, Nicolas Cage, and they’ve also got a director in mind. A directing team in fact: “Crank” helmers Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor who, if hired, will work off of a script from “Ghost Rider” executive producer David Goyer. Negotiations with Cage, Neveldine and Taylor are in the early stages right now, but Columbia hopes to have everything for shooting to begin this fall. There’s no word on what connection “Spirit of Vengeance” will have with the 2007 release, or if any other characters from that first movie are expected to return. The reason for Columbia’s push to get production rolling can be tracked back to the terms of their licensing deal. While no deadline is specified, the rights to the Ghost Rider character could be reverting back to Marvel if a sequel doesn’t come “soon.” Neveldine and Taylor last directed the late-2009 release “Gamer.” They also penned the script for the upcoming comic book adaptation “Jonah Hex,” starring Josh Brolin and Megan Fox, and hitting theaters this Friday. They’ve got nothing lined up right now that’s been announced, so jumping onto “Spirit of Vengeance” shouldn’t be a problem. Cage turned in a strong performance in the April comic book adaptation of Mark Millar’s “Kick-Ass.” He’s got another movie out in July, the Disney fantasy/adventure flick “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” in which he stars with Jay Baruchel, Alfred Molina and Monica Bellucci. He’ll pop up yet again later this year in “Season of the Witch,” which has an unspecified 2010 release. Are you looking forward to a “Ghost Rider” sequel? Sound off in the comments. Robert Pattinson Explains Sexiness Of ‘Twilight’ On ‘Nightline’

‘Eclipse’ star admits he took a Valium before auditioning for Catherine Hardwicke. By Gil Kaufman Robert Pattinson on “Nightline” Monday Photo: ABC For “Twilight” fans who felt there wasn’t enough Edward in “New Moon,” Robert Pattinson agrees . The actor said on “Nightline” Monday night, too, was frustrated at the spectral role his undead vampire hero played in the series’ second film, and that he’s excited to have a more robust presence in the upcoming third installment, “Eclipse.” “That was the most frustrating thing about the last one, I was just kind of straight on green screen, and I did it all in about two days at the end,” he said. In an era when the vampires of HBO’s “True Blood” get graphically involved with their human lovers, the chaste nature of the characters in Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” books has hooked a teen audience. But Pattinson — whose character insists that Edward and Bella must marry before consummating their love — thinks fans still enjoy the stories’ sexual tension. “If there was a hard and fast decision by both of them saying, ‘We’re going to remain virgins our entire life,’ it’s never going to happen,” he said. “I don’t think it would be a popular series. Anyone who likes the books, they all think they’re really sexy. They just like that moment, the kind of tipping point before it goes over. Everybody likes that. That’s the best part of a relationship.” And because auditions can be nerve-wracking, Pattinson admitted that he stole some Valium from a friend to calm his nerves before he auditioned for the first “Twilight” movie. “I knew it was going to be a long audition because I was doing a screen test and it was at the director’s house,” he said of his tryout for the first film with Catherine Hardwicke. “Twenty minutes before I had to leave, I suddenly started panicking. Luckily, the person I was staying with had enough Valium on their bedside table. I stole it. Probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.” Pattinson, 24, also admitted that the rush of instant success he’s had since “Twilight” became a worldwide phenomenon has made him question his mortality and good fortune. “I guess I just thought if too many good things happen, then you’re going to die at 30,” he said. “I was like, ‘I didn’t want that to happen.’ ” And when interviewer Chris Connelly noted that good things keep happening to him, Pattinson responded, “Yeah, so probably I’m going to die at 30. Actually, it’s God saying, ‘You shouldn’t have asked for too much.’ ” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Splice-not your average sci fi horror movie

I saw Splice today and was surprised that it is not your average B horror sci-fi blood and gore movie. Two young biotech scientists /lovers named Elsa and Clive are successful in splicing animal DNA to create hybrids. So successful that they think the pharmaceutical company they work for will support their splicing of human DNA with animal DNA, but are surprised when turned down and shut down. They then go out on their own (morseo Elsa than Clive, who questions the morality of it) against all legal and moral boundaries in successfully splicing their DNA with animal DNA and creating what they at first believe (Elsa much more than Clive who in the beginning wants to kill it) will be the key to all they have dreamed of. Then the dream turns into a nightmare and the evolution of “Dren” turns violent and bloody once leashed on the outside world, taking a turn that shows what happens when you cross the line with no regard for the consequences. And apart from this, the interplay with the characters and the relationship with their creation as well as how it evolves upon learning and growing ( and not for the better) is also worth noting in this movie as a question about the influence of not only DNA but environment. It gives you something to think about, especially regarding where science is today and the moral implications of where it is going. As someone who reads about this, is concerned about it, and reports on it regarding GMOS, this movie did not lose credibility because the science in it is actually reality. They have already created “synthetic” life in a test tube, cloned, and have been serving up genetically engineered seeds that have proven that once unleashed their effects cannot be called back. The warning here is clear; Carelessly playing god with nature will always come back to bite you on the a88. I give it seven out of ten stars and recommend it if you are into sci-fi, and won't be too freaked out by the unorthodox sex scenes ( will not give that away.) Splice is not your average horror blood and gore movie and the acting in it is bellievable. It will not only quench your thirst for sci-fi it will have you questioning the limitations of science on the natural world and the implications of crossing the line. added by: JanforGore
