3OH!3 Remember Bitter High School Rivalry On ‘When I Was 17’

‘We’d be beating them in basketball really hard, and they’d be chanting ’17-10!’ ‘ says Sean Foreman. By James Montgomery 3OH!3 Photo: Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic The guys in 3OH!3 may be best buddies these days, but back in high school, well, they were bitter rivals. Even though they didn’t really know each other. See, as teenagers, Nat Motte and Sean Foreman attended neighboring schools — Fairview High and Boulder High — in the suburbs of Colorado … two schools that, naturally, competed head-to-head in sports. And though the two didn’t become friends (and subsequently form 3OH!3) until they met at the University of Colorado, they both remembered their high school rivalry and tell us all about it on the next episode of MTV’s “When I Was 17.”

Trae Tha Truth Gives Back With Trae Day, New Mixtape

‘Sometimes people need a soldier to lean on and give them that hope and motivation,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Trae Tha Truth Photo: ABN Cornerstone Credentials: Trae Tha Truth Trae Tha Truth proudly reps his crew name ABN (that’s A-holes by Nature) but when it comes to the kids, he’s anything but. The Texas truth speaker gives his all. There was footage that Trae showed us personally of him visiting a paralyzed kid in a hospital that had your favorite hip-hop editor turning on the waterworks. The youngster was moved by Trae’s music and started to try to dance. Trae’s fans are gearing up for his proper LP, Tha Truth, but before that, they’ll get a mixtape. He just finished his latest, Can’t Ban Tha Truth. The title has to do with his lawsuit with Radio One, and the content has everything to do with the streets. Look for guest spots from Young Buck and Lupe Fiasco on the project. A few weeks back, Trae held his annual Trae Day event in Houston where he gave back to the kids, with school supplies, carnival rides, immunizations and music. Lupe and Buck were there to support as well, as were Gorilla Zoe, Jody Breeze, NBA star Stephen Jackson, adult-film star Pinky and Yo Gotti. “As soon as we started to perform, it started raining,” Jae Millz recalled. He was there with his Young Money family Lil Chuckee, Lil Twist, Gudda Gudda, Shawt Dog and Shanell. “It started pouring. It was already on and off rain, but we still rocked anyway. Everybody came out to rock for Trae Day. This is big, man. Everybody needs to have a little bit more of this in their state. They out here. [The fans] stood out here in the rain for him. He had a jungle gym, a Ferris wheel, he did this on his own. That’s love. You don’t get too many artists like this. When you come across an artist like this and he rocks with you, you rock with him, you support him. The people stayed. Parking lot still full.” “We do this: rain, sleet or snow,” Yo Gotti laughed about the inclement weather. “Nothing is gonna stop us from doing that. “It’s a good cause,” Gotti added. “He’s been doing [Trae Day] for a few years, for the kids. He’s my homeboy too. He said he’s gonna put it together, he wanted me to come out, I’m here.” “This is one of the most beautiful individuals that I’ve come into contact in the music business,” Lupe Fiasco said. “He’s a trusted friend, partner, family. Anything I can do to show support, especially something as beautiful as Trae Day and what it stands for — getting kids prepared to go back to school, immunizations, HIV testing — that’s what I do. Any time I see somebody do that, I’m on it.” For Trae, he said he tries to make the event bigger every year. “It’s pressure, man. At the end of the day, it makes me proud that even though the rain came out, they stayed out here for the supplies, they stayed out here with the homie,” Trae said. “We got to be able to touch the people, touch their hearts and give them a smile, because that’s what they need. People think it’s about money. … Sometimes people need a soldier to lean on and give them that hope and motivation. So that’s what I do every Trae Day. Even though it’s my holiday, I made it a holiday for the city.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Related Videos Mixtape Daily: Freddie Gibbs

Senate Passes $600 Million Border Bill!

In the briefest of sessions and without the slightest bit of the usual acromony in the Senate chamber these days, members unanimously approved a $600 million border enhancement bill Thursday (8/12/2010) that increases the boots on the ground at the US border with Mexico. 1000 more Border Patrol Agents and 250 Customs and Border Protection Officers, as well as the deployment of unmanned surveillance drones. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) was the Bill's author, with help from Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD). The Bill itself is not without some controversy, however, despite it's overwelming Congressional approval. The Bill now heads to the Presidents desk for his signature. added by: thetrimsmith

Security Guards Chokes Deaf Shoppers – Shoplifting Suspects, Video

Security Guards Chokes Deaf Shoppers – Shoplifting Suspects, Video There are more questions than answers regarding this troubling video that seems to show a security guard choking a suspected shoplifter while his friend tries to intervene – both of whom appear to be deaf. Here is what we know from watching the video, listening to the commentary and reading the post of the youtube user who took the video. Apparently, two deaf shoppers were leaving XXI in Hollywood when the store alarm was triggered but the pair continued walking with their shopping bags (they are reportedly deaf). The video picks it up from there as one man is being choked by a security guard while his friend (clearly with a speech impediment) tries to help, gesticulating franticly that he has receipts. Meanwhile, the security guard is choking the deaf shoplifting suspect so hard he is turning blue. Some people in the crow that have gathered are upset but do nothing to intervene while man video tapes the choking incident. A security guard tries to stop the video taping of the incident to no avail. The suspects are taken back inside XXI Hollywood store. At times store security guards like the ones here in XXI shoplifting video seem to operate with impunity where beyond the limits of what they are legally allowed to do. It is one thing to ask for receipts it is another to tackle someone and choke because they are mere shoplifting suspects. Lets hope someone is looking into this incident and the whole truth comes out. They violated these men's rights by ignoring the Americans with Disabilities Act. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fRv–C_vao&feature=player_embedded# ! added by: ArchDruid

Snooki ‘Too Good-Looking’ For Jail, John McCain Agrees

In another interview, ‘Jersey Shore’ starlet addresses President Obama and New Jersey Governor Chuck Christie. By Mawuse Ziegbe Snooki Photo: Jerritt Clark/ Getty Images “Jersey Shore” party girl Snooki responded to her recent arrest by declaring that she’s “too pretty” to be thrown in jail . And it appears that at least one politician has her back. In an interview with Phoenix radio station KMLE Country 108 , Senator John McCain agreed with Snooki’s claims that she’s too much of a looker to be thrown in the slammer. On Wednesday (August 11), the onetime presidential hopeful posed a question to KMLE listeners: “Is Snooki too good-looking to go to jail or not?” McCain inquired. “She … has given a whole new meaning to our justice system, you gotta admit. I’m kinda leaning towards Snooki being too good-looking.” The politician said he’s been looking out for the reality starlet, named Nicole Polizzi, ever since they bonded during a Twitter exchange blasting President Obama’s taxes on tanning . “Now, I’ve been worried about what’s going on with her, of course, since I have this attachment,” McCain said. Although she has the senator’s attention, Snooki’s club-hopping antics haven’t hit the radar of the commander in chief. During a July visit to the ladies of ABC’s “The View,” Obama conceded that while he knows about Justin Bieber , he has no idea who Snooki is. The starlet recently said she doesn’t believe the president isn’t getting his weekly “Jersey Shore” fix. “I know he knows who I am,” Snooki told E! Online . “Why did he have to lie and say he didn’t know me? He did [mention] Snooki and JWoww about the tanning stuff, and now he doesn’t know who I am? He has to stop lying.” Although there’s no word on whether an Obama/Snooki beer summit will hit the president’s calendar anytime soon, Snooks has a message for a politician who’s definitely aware of the GTL-ing crew. In response to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s claims that the “Shore” collective puts the Garden State in a bad light, Snooki advised the governor to just relax. “He needs to come over and have a hot dog and a Corona and just chill,” she said. Do you agree with McCain and Snooki that she is “too pretty” for jail? Do you think Obama is lying about not knowing who Snickers is? Let us know in the comments below! Watch “Jersey Shore” Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on MTV.

NBC’s Chuck Todd on Hardball Ponders: Is Ken Buck, ‘Sharron Angle in Drag?’

NBC’s chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd, substitute hosting for Chris Matthews, on Wednesday’s Hardball, managed to question the political viability of two Republican candidates in one sentence as he asked his guest panelist, Jonathan Martin of the Politico, “Is Ken Buck, you know, Sharron Angle in drag?” Going over the results of yesterday’s primary races with Martin and Newsweek’s Howard Fineman, Todd claimed the “Democrats are doing a touchdown dance” because of Buck’s victory in the Republican primary contest for the Senate seat in Colorado and also relayed some rather colorful descriptions of Buck, as seen in the following exchange, aired on the August 11 edition of Hardball: CHUCK TODD: Hey Jonathan Martin it seems as if Democrats are doing a touchdown dance about Ken Buck and they’re trying to turn him into Sharron Angle and Rand Paul’s, somehow hidden brother in the basement. JONATHAN MARTIN, POLITICO: Right. TODD: Is Ken Buck, you know, Sharron Angle in drag? MARTIN: Chuck it’s funny you mention that. I’m actually doing a story right now about, what I call the race to define Ken Buck. And it just started last night, right after the results came in. Both the GOP and Democrats are in this furious battle now to see who can set the narrative of who is Ken Buck? Is he sort of this Princeton graduate, mainstream conservative, county prosecutor, respected pillar of the community? Or is he, like you said, is he the Rocky Mountain version of Sharron Angle? Which is what Democrats are saying, focusing on some of the controversial things that he said during the course of the primary that were not about spending, that were not about those sort of issues that Howard mentioned, that are winners for, for the Republicans this time around. I think it’s still an open question. I don’t think he has vulnerabilities, day in and day out, that a [Rand] Paul or, or an Angle has- TODD: Right. MARTIN: -who are pure libertarians. Who really have a strong philosophical view of, of the role of government. I think he’s more of a pragmatist, Buck is. But there’s no question about it, he went pretty far in some of his comments- TODD: Right. MARTIN: -during the course of the primary.

Fantasia Overdose Draws Sympathy, Criticism From Fans

Reactions to the ‘American Idol’ champ’s apparent suicide attempt are mixed. By Mawuse Ziegbe Fantasia Photo: Bennett Raglin/WireImage Fantasia Barrino’s apparent attempt to take her own life has sparked a range of reactions from the “American Idol” winner’s fans. On Monday, Barrino suffered a drug overdose after ingesting a mix of aspirin and a sleep aid. The singer was taken to a North Carolina hospital, and a police report listed Barrino’s condition as a “suicide/overdose.” In the wake of the singer’s recent troubles, fans have been divided over Barrino’s alleged suicide attempt. “This is so sad and reminds me of the people who win the lottery but their life falls apart afterwards,” Burker wrote on the “American Idol” fan website Rickey.org. “So many highs and lows in Tasia’s life. I’m rooting for ya babe!” Bfashion58 also expressed support for the troubled “Idol” champ. “My prayers are with Fantasia and her family,” the poster wrote. “What don’t break you will only make you stronger.” “Hope you’ll get better soon Fantasia!! I miss you!!” Chuckgirl2008 wrote on MTV.com. “UR n my prayers Tasia, keep ur head up!!!” Reginald Ready said. Many fans have sent Barrino well-wishes, but the singer has also been the subject of much viral vitriol. Numerous online commenters have blasted Barrino’s suicide attempt as a “selfish” move that would have left her daughter without a mom. “I’m sorry, but trying to commit suicide when you are a mother is probably the most selfish thing a person can do,” Max wrote on the Clutch magazine website. “I do not feel sorry for her, I feel sorry for her daughter.” “I’m sorry but I can not feel bad for Fantasia,” an anonymous poster declared on TheYBF.com. “The thought of her taking her life and leaving her DAUGHTER parent-less over some man is very selfish to [me].” Several fans have referenced Barrino’s reported relationship with a married man as the cause of her alleged suicide attempt. The singer was named in court documents filed last week by Paula Cook, the wife of Barrino’s supposed boyfriend Antwaun, charging that the two started a “covert adulterous affair” last August. The documents also allege that the duo filmed a sex tape, which precipitated the collapse of the marriage. “I find it hard to feel bad for her bc I believe she knew what she was doing,” another TheYBF anonymous poster wrote. “Not to sound heartless, but even if she didn’t know he was married [I’m] sure she found out along the way.” “As a married woman, it is tough to feel sorry for women like this,” Clutch Mag Online poster Maria wrote. “As a celebrity she needs to think twice before doing anything that could ruin her career. Plus why go after a married man when there are so many single men out there to choose from?” “Fantasia is a sorry excuse for a [woman],” another anonymous poster typed on TheYBF. “She got caught and now she’s trying to dig her way out and I have no remorse for her.” Barrino’s drug overdose was just the latest incident in a life that has been marked by incredible highs and devastating lows. The singer overcame sexual abuse, teen pregnancy and illiteracy to take the “American Idol” crown in 2004. Barrino went on to release the platinum debut Free Yourself and starred in Broadway’s “The Color Purple.” However, the star reportedly skipped more than 50 “Color Purple” performances, and one of Barrino’s homes went into foreclosure in 2008. Yet, in 2010, Barrino appeared to be enjoying a return to the spotlight with the hit VH1 show “Fantasia for Real.” She also recently dropped the single “Bittersweet.” Fantasia fans remain split over her recent issues, however. Some commenters, such as Itgirlstyle, insist that the public should have sympathy despite Barrino’s celebrity. “Nobody is perfect, and we have all have made mistakes/choices we aren’t proud of. The difference is, when celebrities make mistakes, it’s broadcast to the world and all of a sudden everybody is perfect and feel they have the right to judge and condemn,” the commenter wrote on Clutch. “Hold your head up, Tasia.” Share your well-wishes for Fantasia and her family in the comments below. Todd Quotes Emma Lazarus Poem As If It’s The Law

The liberal lionization of Emma Lazarus’ poem [which Rush has brilliantly demolished ] has reached laughable new heights.  On this evening’s Hardball, guest host Chuck Todd cited the Lazarus lines from the base of the Statue of Liberty . . . as if they had some authority in law! Todd was debating former GOP congressman Ernest Istook on the proposal some Republicans have floated to recast or clarify the 14th Amendment so as not to grant automatic citizenship to children born in the United States to illegal immigrants. ERNEST ISTOOK:  The Supreme Court precedent on this, which was in 1898, was the case of Wong Kim Ark.  And in that case, he was the child of parents who were here legally, and lawfully.  The Supreme Court has not ruled on the case of children of parents who are here illegally. CHUCK TODD: But here’s the issue you have.  Let me read you–and it’s a very familiar phrase to a lot of folks–that greets people when they came to Liberty Island and Ellis Island.  It says: “give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.  The wretched refuse of your teeming shores. Send these the homeless tempest [tossed] to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”  There was no mention of whether these folks had to be legal citizens. Istook took it easy on Todd.  Instead of chuckling at Chuck, he mild-manneredly observed “my grandparents came through Ellis Island.  My father’s parents were immigrants from Hungary.  So I know the Emma Lazarus poem that you were quoting. But that’s not the same as quoting the provisions of the Constitution. ” Can our ingenious readers provide examples of other poems that the legal lights of the MSM might like to cite?
