Tito Lopez Challenges Rap Competitors To His Own Hunger Game

‘I spit and I spit for real, so I wanted to bring that hunger aspect to it and that feeling like I gotta be #1,’ MC says of The Hunger Game. By Rob Markman, with reporting by James Lacsina Tito Lopez Photo: Main Pick Headliner : Tito Lopez Representing : Gulfport, Mississippi Mixtape : The Hunger Game Real Spit : Tito Lopez sure is confident; then again, if you could rap tightly packed bars like the Gulfport, Mississippi, MC, you would be too. On his latest mixtape, The Hunger Game, Tito puts all of his skill and confidence on full display. “I named my mixtape The Hunger Game basically because if anybody knows me, they know I love movies,” Tito told Mixtape Daily. Lopez found a parallel in “The Hunger Games” film and the rap game where he hopes to one day be crowned a king. “If you never seen that movie these kids have to fight to the death, they’re kids and it’s really kind of messed up. They gotta fight ’till it’s one winner and I feel like that’s the competition aspect that’s missing out of rap,” he said. On “Try Me,” Tito invites all would-be detractors to the battlefield. “Feast on beats and pick my teeth, if you want some bitch come find me/ I’ll make it hard for you to stand as a man, let alone stand by me, come try me,” he spits to end his first verse. Tito is currently a rap underdog, even though his talent has earned him a deal with Capitol Records. On “Mass Appeal 2.0” he proves his worth lyrically over a re-worked Gang Starr instrumental and then rhymes over another DJ Premier beat with his “Devil’s Pie” freestyle. Both are winners. With “Jessica,” Tito shows that it isn’t all slick metaphors and battle raps, as he weaves an intricate story rhyme about a high-school crush. His current single “Mama Proud” shows even more range; it’s a heartfelt tune dedicated to his come-up in the game. After listening to tracks like “Black Ice Freestyle,” “They Told Me” and “Ventilation,” it becomes increasingly difficult to deny Tito his place in the game. “I spit and I spit for real, so I wanted to bring that hunger aspect to it and that feeling like I gotta be #1,” he said. “If I gotta knock cats out to be that, I will be that.” Joints to Check For > > “They Told Me”— “It’s like a triumphant type joint. I’ve made that just to basically let people know I’ve come along way.” > > “Jessica” — “This is one of my favorite joints period. I tell a story about a girl who she has low self-esteem, she made some bad choices, had a hard life and she don’t have no self-respect or nothin’ like that. Basically during the story, I’m trying to tell her to respect herself more, to make better choices.” Related Artists Tito Lopez

Jef Holm on The Bachelorette: Playing Hard to Get With Emily Maynard

Jef Holm (with one F) says taking it slow with Emily Maynard and making her pursue him too was his plan from the start on ABC’s The Bachelorette. The 27-year-old entrepreneur – like Arie Luyendyk, Jr. and Sean Lowe – is rumored to be a finalist this summer, and spoke about it with reporters. Emily’s alleged final three (according to The Bachelorette spoilers , anyway) have all given interviews while still on the show, a first for the TV franchise. Here are some things Jef Holm shared about his pursuit of Emily: On taking it easy : “Every guy was going full steam ahead for Emily, surrounding and swarming her. That’s not how I am with girls. I was the only guy who played it cool. I wanted her to know she’d have to fight for and pursue me, too.” On not kissing Emily until London : “I wasn’t ready to take it to the next level. If we developed feelings, I want them to [go] both ways.” “We started off slowly but we developed a really good friendship. As time goes on, that friendship turns into more and more of a romance.” On falling for Emily Maynard : “She’s the most amazing girl I’ve ever met.” “I had no idea how well spoken and smart she is. She’s a great mom – patient, loving, good in difficult situations, composed, sassy, sarcastic. And she’s gorgeous.” “She’s always herself and doesn’t care if cameras are watching her.” On potentially being a stepfather : “I would love to skateboard and play soccer with [Ricki] and that’s something Emily and I connected over.” “I can’t wait to be a dad. At this point on the show, in Prague, I could definitely see myself being a father to Ricki and a husband to Emily. On his competition : “There were some amazing guys there. I think the world of Arie. Sean Lowe is a faithful, genuine guy. Chris and Doug are great.” On whether he’d be The Bachelor : “I learned a lot about myself and met an amazing person so I’m glad I went … but probably not.” Who do you think Emily should choose?

Emma Roberts Thinks ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Role ‘Sounds Awesome’

‘I haven’t read it, but yeah, anything racy, hot … sure, let’s get hot!’ actress tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi Emma Roberts Photo: It seems that every young starlet in Hollywood has been mentioned for the role of Anastasia Steele in the upcoming film adaptation of E L James’ hit erotic trilogy, “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Many fans have opinions as to who they feel will be a perfect fit to play the naive, love-stricken character, whose story began as “Twilight” fan fiction. Fan favorite Kristen Stewart , who we know has read at least part of the book , is certainly topping the list for some fan sites, while Nina Dobrev may pass on the opportunity to play the role if her “Vampire Diaries” co-star Ian Somerhalder lands the part of Christian Grey . Most recently, Selena Gomez decided to take herself out of the race, calling the role “a little too much” for her and saying that someone a bit older should take it on. Could that older someone be Emma Roberts ? MTV News caught up with Roberts at Seventeen magazine’s Pretty Amazing Contest event in New York, and it seems that the young star might be putting herself into the competition for the role. There’s just one problem: She still has to read the book. “Everyone says read ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’ I don’t really understand,” Roberts said. “But everyone on the plane was reading it, and I was like, ‘I should probably just get it.’ ” Roberts may be perfect to take on the part of Ana, since, at 21, she is around the same age and already has the dark hair to match. But would she be willing to do those steamy love scenes? “I haven’t read it, I don’t even understand, but yeah, it sounds awesome. Anything racy, hot,” Roberts said. “Sure, let’s get hot.” Do you think Emma would be a perfect Anastasia Steele? Let us know in the comments!

Quote Of The Day: Miguel Warns Other Artists “Don’t Eff’ing Come Over Here ’Cause I Will Eff You Up”

My, my, such hostility… Miguel Warns Other Artists About Biting His Style Miguel has a stern warning for the competition: Stay out of his lane or he will “f**k you up.” The R&B crooner is taking a tough stance when it comes to his music and those who try to imitate his style. The 25-year-old is currently in the studio working on the follow-up to his 2010 debut All I Want Is You. “It’s definitely a progressive album,” he told Mina SayWhat on Philadelphia radio station Power 99. “I would describe it as being progressive in the sense that I’m taking a lot of my more alternative influences and incorporating them.” Over the past few months he released his trilogy of Art Dealer Chic micro EPs to give fans a taste of his new direction. “‘Adorn’ is a great segway because it’s very soulful, but still has some alternative elements,” he said. “I think that’s what makes it really cool. It’s a very honest representation of where I’m at, but it’s just a segway.” But those who attempt to adopt his sound should take caution. “I’m just gonna say, ‘Don’t nobody out there step into my fu**in’ lane. Stay where you’re at,’” he warned. “I’m a competitive person and what I’m saying is I’m solidifying my lane and don’t fu**ing come over here ’cause I will f**k you up.” He explained himself further. “I want everyone to express themselves in a unique way. I’m saying that in an aggressive way ’cause that’s how I really feel, but what I mean by that is find your own thing to do and create your own lane.” Don’t expect many features on his sophomore album. “I’m a man who wants to stand on his own two feet. I don’t need a fu**ing co-sign. I don’t need that shit,” he said, while adding, “I can’t tell you who I may feature on this next album, but I guarantee you that it will be unexpected.” While we love Miguel and his music, we don’t think he’s exactly the most intimidating person in the world… Image via WENN Via Rap-Up

‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Goes Hollywood

Characters rule in the L.A. leg, with Marshea Kidd and Cole Horibe especially impressing the judges. By Natasha Chandel Cole Horibe on “So You Think You Can Dance?” Photo: FOX “So You Think You Can Dance” returned with its third round of auditions, landing smack in the middle of LaLa Land. Characters ruled in the Los Angeles leg of the competition, in an episode reminiscent of a Hollywood blockbuster. Guest judge Jesse Tyler Ferguson of “Modern Family” joined judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy in narrowing down the dancing field. While hip-hop, animation and exorcism ruled in the season premiere of “SYTYCD,” the second episode was saturated with contemporary routines full of sensuality, sadness and … martial arts? It was the dancers’ unique personalities that brought their talents to life. Starlet The heroine came early but left a serious mark with the judges. Eliana Girard, a trained dancer, circus performer and pole dancer, wowed the judges with her mile-long legs and emotional connection to the dance. Murphy said Girard was “Definitely top 20 material,” while Lythgoe commented, “You are one of the best girls this year.” Girard received a standing ovation and a sweet golden ticket to Vegas. Comic Relief Jontel “Johnny Waacks” Gibson — need we say more? “I think I was born in the wrong era,” Gibson said of himself in his intro package as he donned a bright ’70s-inspired outfit to go with his revival of the dance style “waacking.” More than his dance, Gibson had the judges splitting with laughter as they made reference after reference to the sexual innuendo behind the word “waacking.” The waacking routine was not the first in the show’s history, and Gibson did not make it through to Vegas after falling flat in the choreography round. Stunt Doubles Hilarity ensued upon the arrival of twin brothers Nick and James Aragon, a.k.a. the “Ninja Twins.” The athletes-turned-dancers entertained to the max with their twin jibber jabber — finishing each other’s sentences, speaking simultaneously and ribbing one another about who was the “best.” After their joint performance, Lythgoe exclaimed, “You have made this show for me, right now.” Unfortunately, the eccentric siblings were two years too old for the 30-year eligibility cutoff required and could not make it through but were praised for their talents and told to get a reality show. Victim Every story has a victim, and in this episode, it was 18-year-old Sam Lenarz. After multiple disagreements with her mother, the teenager was thrown out of her home and taken in by her best friend’s family. The pain of the ordeal was evident in her performance. Jesse Tyler Ferguson pointed out that her routine was laden with “simmering sadness, in a beautiful way.” Things turned up for Lenarz after she was granted a go-ahead to move on in the competition. Action Hero Cole Horibe proved to be more than a pretty face, as most action heroes do, with a martial-arts-infused dance that showed off his inhuman strength and control. Performing with extreme precision, the judges called Horibe’s legs “lethal” and without blinking offered him a ticket to Vegas. The decision was easier after Horibe jokingly threatened to come after the judges if they didn’t. Villain What story would be complete without a villain? OK, a reformed villain, to be precise. And Wednesday night’s came in the form of Jonathan Anzalone, a former contestant from season four who returned to humble himself after his first audition debacle on the show. Anzalone was criticized for his arrogance and returned to prove to the judges and the world that he had matured and respected their decisions. Their final decision: good, but not good enough. Anzalone was not allowed to move on. Scene-Stealer The real scene-stealer of the night, though, was Marshea Kidd. The 22-year old had auditioned unsuccessfully in seasons past but returned with a whole new take on dance and life. Kidd had survived a horrific car accident just six weeks prior, pronounced dead on arrival to the hospital. His “SYTYCD” audition was his first time onstage after breaking his neck and coming out of a coma. Kidd’s beautiful performance illuminated the stage and his new zest for life was felt by all in the room. Speechless, the judges merely waved a golden ticket in front of Kidd and reduced him and his family to tears. The dancers in Los Angeles more than lived up to the judges’ expectations and took the show further with their diverse characters. “So You Think You Can Dance” returns next week in the Dirty South. Kelly Clarkson Brings ‘American Idol’ Expertise To ‘Duets’

ABC’s new reality singing show puts seasoned superstars onstage with amateur singers. By Christina Garibaldi Kelly Clarkson Photo: MTV News At first glance, “Duets” may just seem like another reality singing competition, but the new ABC show couldn’t be more different. Because this time, the superstars are not behind a judging panel, but onstage with the contestants. The show, which premieres Thursday (May 24), pits pop star Kelly Clarkson , Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles and R&B crooners Robin Thicke and John Legend against one another as they pair up with two amateur singers, whom they found before the show. Each week the stars will battle it out, duet style, in front of a live audience to ultimately win the grand prize for the amateur singer: a recording contract with Hollywood Records. “I basically just found my two people on my own,” Kelly Clarkson told MTV News recently at an event announcing ABC’s fall lineup. “[Robin] found them a completely different way and John found his a completely different way, it’s kind of really random, but it’s cool though.” Going into the competition, Clarkson figured she had a slight advantage given her experience on “American Idol,” which she won during the first season. But as soon as cameras started rolling for “Duets,” she realized she had her work cut out for her. “It’s a lot of fun, but it’s a lot of work,” Clarkson admitted. “I totally thought I had a one-up from ‘Idol’ … It is way harder.” “I’m just going to try and do kind of what I did on ‘Idol’ and hopefully that will help my people,” Clarkson said. “It’s not really as much up to us, the stars on the show, it’s more for the kids that really just need to make sure they are bringing their A-game every week.” Are you excited for “Duets”?
