Will You Be Watching?? MSNBC To Air The Documentary Conrad “Murder” Murray Shot While On Trial

Only in America… Executors for the estate of Michael Jackson demanded Wednesday that MSNBC drop its plan to air a “reprehensible” documentary that promises a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the singer’s relationship with Dr. Conrad Murray, but which they charged smears the late pop icon. In a letter to MSNBC President Phil Griffin and the cable channel’s corporate overseers, the Jackson representatives argued that Murray, convicted Monday of involuntary manslaughter in Jackson’s death, uses the documentary “to shift the blame post-conviction to Michael Jackson, even though a jury considered the evidence and rejected this very argument.” MSNBC purchased “Michael Jackson and the Doctor: A Fatal Friendship” from a British production company and plans to air it Friday and Monday night, along with an “exclusive” interview with Murray by NBC News correspondent Savannah Guthrie. A Los Angeles Superior Court jury convicted Murray for administering propofol, a surgical anesthetic, to Jackson and then failing to monitor the pop star as he stopped breathing. MSNBC representatives had said earlier that the cable channel did not pay for access to Murray or contribute to his legal defense. The producer of the documentary, October Films, said it paid only $1 for two years of access to Murray and a behind-the-scenes look at his legal defense. Representatives of MSNBC and October Films said they did not know what arrangements might have been made by the film’s distributor, Zodiak Rights. Zodiak representatives could not be reached. The Jackson family representatives questioned whether additional payments were made to Murray. “Was it really only $1, or was it more?” said a letter from John Branca and John McClain, who are co-executors of the Michael Jackson estate. Do you think MSNBC is wrong for showing the doc? Or is it just waaaaaay too soon? Source More On Bossip! Shhhh! Embarrassing Secrets That Damn Near Ruined These People’s Careers And Lives! R.I.P. Kurt Loder Calls Michael Jackson a Child Molester

Former MTV News anchor Kurt Loder was asked to weigh in on the Conrad Murray verdict this morning in an interview, and shared his thoughts on the situation. On Jeff and Jeremy in the Morning, Loder was asked if he thought MJ’s death was a tragedy. He replied that it was, but that the star was also a child molester, so … Here’s what Loder said on that topic, unprovoked: Kurt Loder Criticizes Michael Jackson “Its a shame how he grew up … his childhood was a shame … there are many sad aspects to his life … on the other hand, I think he was a child molester,” Loder said. “That sort of tempers any feelings you might have about him.” Asked why he believed MJ molested kids, Loder cited Jackson’s bizarre behavior and alleged secret payouts to parents, but did not go into specifics. Regarding some of Michael’s past actions, he said, “Having sleepovers with little boys, and you’re a 40 year old man??? Uh, NO. You’re like a child molester.” “Maybe being a child molester is the product of a pretty terrible childhood … you can see why that might happen. On the other hand, molesting children is bad.” Do you agree with Loder’s comments? Is he just telling it like it is, or out of line, given that it’s unrelated to his death, and the allegations were never proven?

Conrad Murray’s Lawyers Planning Appeal

Michael Jackson doctor convicted of involuntary manslaughter on Monday. By Gil Kaufman Dr. Conrad Murray Photo: Al Seib/Pool/Getty Images The lawyers for Conrad Murray are planning to lodge an appeal on behalf of Michael Jackson ‘s former doctor. Murray, who was immediately sent to jail on Monday following his conviction on a single felony charge is being housed in a part of the Los Angeles County jail set aside for high-profile prisoners. According to CNN , Murray’s defense team has promised to appeal the conviction, but not before they prepare for his upcoming sentencing hearing on November 29. Defense attorney Nareg Gourjian said that Murray was “devastated” by the guilty verdict, but he is “confident” that he will win release on appeal. “What matters most right now is trying to keep Dr. Murray from taking up a prison cell in this community,” lead defense lawyer Ed Chernoff said. “That’s what we’re focusing on right now and we’ll deal with an appeal after that.” Though Murray is facing up to four years in state prison on the charge, because of recent changes in sentencing laws in California aimed at reducing prison overcrowding, he is unlikely to spend any time in a state facility. His lawyers plan to ask for probation and Gourjian said he expects his client to spend “maybe a little bit” of time in county jail. Both lawyers said they were not surprised by the verdict but that their case was hampered by some of the pre-trial rulings that were made on evidence the defense had planned to show the jury. “I think that’s essentially what denied Dr. Murray a fair trial in this case,” Gourjian said. He suggested that the outcome may have been different if Murray’s team had been able to introduce evidence on Jackson’s past drug use and dire “financial condition.” The verdict is in on the Conrad Murray trial. Michael Jackson Family Cheers Conrad Murray Verdict

Michael Jackson’s family members were understandably thrilled by Monday’s guilty verdict against Dr. Conrad Murray , feeling that justice was finally served. Throughout the doctor’s six-week involuntary manslaughter trial, his brothers and sisters always felt his presence. Now they can take some solace in a victory. MJ’s family cried, shouted and finally gave a sigh of relief – literally, in the case of La Toya Jackson, heard in the video below – after the judgment was read. Dr. Conrad Murray Verdict Reading “He was in the courtroom and that’s why victory was served,” La Toya told CNN Headline News while leaving the courthouse through a swarm of reporters. Added his other, less ridiculous sister Rebbie: “I’m just happy it’s over with. Nothing will bring him back, but I’m just happy (Dr. Murray) was found guilty.” Jackson’s mother Katherine quietly dabbed tears, then went home to tell Michael’s kids the verdict. As she did throughout the trial, she did not allow them to attend nor watch on TV, but provided them first-hand updates herself every day. “We have been waiting for this moment for a very long time, and we couldn’t hold back tears in the courtroom,” Katherine, 81, told TMZ in a brief statement. Did the jury get it right?

Conrad Murray Verdict ‘Very Fair,’ Expert Says

‘There was so much overwhelming evidence of guilt that the defense didn’t really have much of a chance,’ Mike Cavalluzzi tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Dr. Conrad Murray reacts after the jury returned with a guilty verdict in his involuntary manslaughter trial at Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday Photo: Al Seib/ Getty Images The nearly six-week involuntary manslaughter trial against former Michael Jackson doctor Conrad Murray ended Monday afternoon (November 7) with a guilty verdict. Judge Pastor announced that Murray would be taken immediately into custody and held without bail until his sentencing hearing, scheduled for November 29. Moments after the verdict was read, MTV News spoke with Los Angeles-based criminal defense attorney Mike Cavalluzzi for his expert opinion regarding Murray’s conviction on one felony count of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson. “I’m not at all surprised by the verdict,” said Cavalluzzi, who is not associated with this case. “I think the prosecution did an excellent job of laying out their case, and I think that there was so much overwhelming evidence of guilt that the defense didn’t really have much of a chance. This is a very fair verdict, mainly because it isn’t a verdict that calls for any intent or any malice on the part of Dr. Murray. This is about criminal negligence, gross negligence on his part, and I think it’s a fair verdict.” Cavalluzzi also wasn’t surprised by the amount of time — nine hours — it took the jury to reach their decision. “This is about how long one would think it would take given the amount of evidence the jury had to go through,” he said. “It seems to me that perhaps the jury was a little bit media savvy in coming down with their verdict the end of a Monday morning so it would be announced early Monday afternoon. It allows them to reach the full week of the news cycle and hit all the major magazines. So it seems to me like someone on that jury knew about Us [Weekly] magazine.” Looking ahead, Cavalluzzi said more jail time isn’t necessarily in Murray’s future after the November 29 sentencing. “It’s a little bit early to tell what a fair sentence would be for Dr. Murray now. That’s the most difficult part of the process for Judge Pastor, in which he will have to seriously consider all of the mitigating factors which would lean toward Dr. Murray not doing any jail time and all of the aggravating factors that would lead toward him going to state prison,” he said. “It seems to me, at first blush, that any jail time wouldn’t be appropriate in this case given the fact that Dr. Murray has no criminal record and there truly was no malice, no intent to actually harm Michael Jackson at all. What he was really doing was succumbing to the wishes of a patient, and unfortunately, that patient was not a person whose wishes should have been succumbed to.” MTV News will be covering the Conrad Murray case live. Conrad Murray Trial: Jury Reaches A Verdict

Verdict should be read at 1 p.m. PT. By Gil Kaufman Dr. Conrad Murray Photo: Pool/ Getty Images After just more than nine hours of deliberation, the jury in the involuntary manslaughter case against Michael Jackson ‘s former doctor, Conrad Murray, reached a decision Monday morning (November 7). The seven-man, five-woman jury rang a buzzer three times following nearly three hours of deliberation Monday to indicate that they had reached a unanimous decision in the felony case against the Houston cardiologist. The 10:56 a.m. buzz came after jurors deliberated for seven hours on Friday and came to no conclusion. The verdict is slated to be read in court around 1 p.m. PT. The jurors listened to six weeks of testimony in the trial and were tasked with deciding if Murray was criminally negligent in his treatment of Jackson, including if his administration of the surgical anesthetic propofol as a sleep aid to the 50-year-old pop icon was a factor in the singer’s death. The jurors had to weigh the opinions of a number of medical professionals called by the prosecution, who painted a picture of a physician who did not follow accepted protocols and who they claimed was motivated by a big payday. The defense countered with former patients of Murray’s who attested to his generosity and attention, as well as experts who refuted the prosecution expert’s claims that it was Murray who provided the final, fatal dose of sedatives and propofol that sent Jackson into cardiac arrest on June 25, 2009. In his closing statement Thursday, prosecutor David Walgren said the evidence that Murray was responsible for Jackson’s death was “overwhelming” and “abundantly clear.” Defense counsel Ed Chernoff countered that that it was Jackson who caused his own death, not Murray. Murray is facing up to four years in prison and the loss of his medical license if convicted. MTV News will be covering the Conrad Murray verdict live. For Discussion: Michael Jackson’s Bodyguards Say He Wouldn’t Have Wanted His Friend Conrad Murray On Trial

Here’s an interesting take on this whole Conrad Murray trial. Two of Michael Jackson’s former bodyguards are speaking out in defense of Dr. Conrad Murray, saying he is not a criminal. It was something heard from Murray’s defense team: Other doctors provided Jackson with powerful prescription drugs, and Murray was being blamed for Jackson’s dependency to those other drugs. Now Javon Beard and Bill Whitfield are saying the same thing. “We know if he was alive, he would not want Dr. Conrad Murray to be on trial,” Beard said. “There’s no way in hell that he wanted to kill Michael Jackson. Why would he kill his paycheck?” Jackson’s former bodyguards shared new details about Jackson’s relationship with Murray. “The relationship that him and Mr. Conrad Murray had on our watch, they were more friends,” Beard said. Murray is on trial for involuntary manslaughter. Prosecutors say his negligence caused Jackson’s death, but Jackson’s former bodyguards say the testimony has unfairly vilified Murray. “Seeing how only Dr. Murray is being pointed out, I look at the trial and see, you know, that courtroom would not be big enough to hold everyone in it that we feel would be accountable,” Whitfield said. In an interview with an ABC reporter in Las Vegas, Beard and Whitfield both said they’re convinced that someone other than Murray was medicating Jackson during the daytime to help him prepare for what was a demanding rehearsal schedule. “Dr. Murray may have helped Mr. Jackson sleep. We certainly believe that there were certainly other doctors that helped him stay up,” Whitfield said. “It’s way bigger than Dr. Conrad Murray,” Beard said. “That’s no question in our minds.” What these guys are basically saying that, as hard as it may be for his billions of fans to hear, Michael Jackson was just like any other addict with enough money to always be able to find someone to say yes.
