Shyne Determined To ‘Rep’ Orthodox Jewish Faith

‘I rep this tribe of Judah till the very end,’ Po tells MTV News of converting to Judaism. By Rob Markman Shyne Photo: MTV News The Shyne we see today is a far cry from the troubled rap youth that we saw in 2000 walking in and out of court, donning a suit and oversize baseball cap. During his almost-nine-year prison stint for assault and gun possession, Shyne became closer to his Jewish faith. Now we see him with long side curls and traditional Orthodox garb, bearing the Star of David. It’s nothing new, Shyne says. “This ain’t no ‘Shyne got out and went to Jerusalem and became religious.’ God and man is a never-ending struggle. We’re in the struggle to do what’s right,” Shyne told MTV News of his faith. “I’ve been on this journey.” The rapper is less concerned about the latest trends in rap than he is about working on strengthening his relationship with God. “This is how King David wore his hair,” Shyne said of his payos. “That’s who I want to be. I don’t really want to be like anybody else. I don’t want to be like one of these big fools. I don’t want to be like none of these guys on TV. I don’t want to be like — definitely none of these rappers. “I want to be like King David so that’s how I wear my hair. I rep this tribe of Judah till the very end and that’s what it’s hitting for,” he said, tugging on his robe. Shyne continues to release new music. On January 13, he dropped an elongated version of Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV “Outro” and on Tuesday revealed that he and Diddy have made amends . Can a musical collaboration be next? “As far as Puff is concerned, that’s been a long time coming,” Shyne exclusively told MTV News of the conversation he and the Bad Boy CEO had earlier this month. “He had reached out to me twice while I was in the pen, but I just wasn’t ready for it.” The rapper wouldn’t speak on the details of his and Comb’s conversation, but he did say that the two plan to meet face to face in Paris in the coming weeks. VIDEO: Guess What’s Wrong With This War Horse

It’s been a long awards season talking about animal performances and the variations therein — from Uggie’s full-blooded canine craftsmanship in The Artist to Andy Serkis’s arguably Oscar-worthy performance-capture efforts as Caesar in Rise of the Planet of the Apes . And then there’s Joey, the eponymous equine stud of War Horse , played by roughly a dozen or more different horses over the course of Steven Spielberg’s epic. But there’s something strange about the one recently revealed in some War Horse test footage. You have to go to watch the (currently unembeddable) video over at Facebook . I’ll offer little more beyond my recommendation, except to add that Uggie never would have gone for this. [ Chris Clarke via AICN ]

Yes, As a Matter of Fact, Armond White Called J. Hoberman a ‘Jackass.’ And?

“Well I was quoted correctly but only a fraction of what I had to say. I’m a big fan of Albert Brooks so I had things to talk to him about his work, about his movies, we talked about an album of his that I loved called A Star is Bought . And I had to tell him so. And that was really the gist of our conversation, but the little Hoberman moles standing around, they didn’t care about that. Albert asked me the question, is Jay Hoberman here, and I said, that jackass? Cause I couldn’t figure out why somebody as smart as Albert Brooks would even want to know.” [ The Interrobang ]

George Clooney Bests Brad Pitt For Best Actor Golden Globe

‘Descendants’ star calls out Pitt and Michael Fassbender in acceptance speech. By Kevin P. Sullivan George Clooney Photo: Robyn Peck/ Getty Images In a race that was considered to be a battle of the A-listers, George Clooney took home the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for “The Descendants.” After an evening of joking about his celebrity best bud, George Clooney opened his acceptance speech by letting Brad Pitt know exactly what he thought of him. “I wanted to say it’s nice to see Brad, and it’s nice to be able to tell him not just what wonderful work he’s doing in two films this year,” Clooney said. “But what wonderful work he does in the rest of the world to the rest of the people.” Pitt, who was nominated for “Moneyball,” and Clooney emerged as the front-runners in the category soon after the nominees were announced last month, and their well-documented friendship came to dominate the conversation around the race. Earlier in the evening, Clooney borrowed the cane Pitt used throughout the evening, seemingly to poke fun at his friend. Clooney also acknowledged one of the actors he got to meet for the awards show, fellow nominee Michael Fassbender, and he took the opportunity to crack a joke about Fassbender’s revealing role in “Shame.” “I’d like to thank Michael Fassbender for taking over the frontal-nudity responsibility that I had,” Clooney said. “Michael, honestly, you can play golf like this with your hands behind your back. Go for it, man. Do it.” Toward the end of his acceptance speech, Clooney got a little more serious and thanked his co-stars and writer/director Alexander Payne. “Thank you very much to Alexander Payne, who makes wonderful films and is a great friend,” he said. Justin Bieber Debuts New Song: Listen, Watch Now!

We’d rather have a Mustang convertible , but this isn’t an awful consolation gift. Justin Bieber debuted a new single this week, telling those in attendance at his Home for the Holidays convert at Massey Hall in Canada, that the track may be included on his next album. It’s titled “Be Alright” and, as Justin says simply in the following video, it’s a “love song,” one meant to convey a message to one’s significant others: in the end, no matter how bad things get, everything is gonna be alright. Watch/listen now and then sound off: What do you think? Justin Bieber – Be Alright (Live)

Bon Jovi Death Hoax Creator Confesses, Cites Irritation With Overexposed Singer

Living, breathing rocker and New Year’s Eve star Jon Bon Jovi showed off his impressive physique on a family Christmas vacation, while doing a little reading. Nice. As you can see, the Internet hoax that proclaimed Jon Bon Jovi dead earlier this month was B.S. – helpfully cleared up by the singer himself – and thank goodness. What kind of person actually starts a Twitter hoax to kill off Bon Jovi, you ask? Well, we now know, as the person responsible for starting the rumor confessed! Pennsylvania musician Jeffrey Goho told the Asbury Park Press (N.J.) he started a fake Twitter account in mid-December with the intention of offing Jon Bon. He reported that the “Wanted Dead or Alive” singer passed away on tour in his native New Jersey. Since then, “I’ve gotten a lot of backlash from it,” he says. Stunning news right there. Goho recalls how it got started: “All I heard was ‘Bon Jovi this,’ ‘Bon Jovi starting a restaurant.’ The Advil commercial. It was like, ‘Jeez, (Bon Jovi) was a household name due to music, not business.” “Long story short, [my band and I] got so worked up in the conversation, I just kind of took the liberty and started (the rumor), because I was so irritated.” Makes sense. Totally worth fake killing someone over. Goho said that within 24 hours his account was “slammed” with hate mail. “I’m not proud of this,’’ he said, but denies he had any self-promoting motive. “No, no, no, I didn’t do this as a business endeavor. As stupid as it sounds, I was just irritated. It was wrong to do and I almost kind of hurt myself.” “Ultimately, the more thought I gave to it I realized that his endeavors, his business endeavors, have actually made the tri-state area prosper, hence more musicians have more available places to go, more people to play to, and I was quite wrong.” Hey, at least he can admit it now. Matt Damon: Jeremy Renner ‘Obvious Choice’ For ‘Bourne Legacy’

‘He’s such a good actor and can carry a movie,’ actor tells MTV News. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jeremy Renner Photo: Getty Images In August, when “The Bourne Legacy” opens in theaters, the man behind Jason Bourne, Matt Damon , won’t be anywhere in sight. At least that’s what the actor says. Damon sat down with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz while promoting his new film, “We Bought a Zoo,” and he insisted he had no part in the fourth “Bourne” movie. “No, I’m not in that one. I haven’t even read the script,” he said. But as a key component of the series, Damon was able to give his take on how “Legacy,” which is being directed by Tony Gilroy, fits in with the previous three films. “My understanding is that it’s like if you think of ‘X-Men’ and then ‘Wolverine,’ the spin-off movie, just think of it in reverse,” he explained. “There’s the Bourne character, and then there’s this whole world. It doesn’t preclude [director] Paul Greengrass and I from doing another [‘Bourne’ movie].” Damon had spoken with the star of “Bourne Legacy,” Jeremy Renner , briefly, but he insisted the conversation didn’t have much to do with the series. “We didn’t really talk about the movie much. I’m just a huge fan of his,” Damon said. When Damon and Greengrass — who directed the second and third “Bourne” films — met to move forward with the series after “Ultimatum,” Renner was a topic of conversation. “When Paul Greengrass and I were talking about the character and maybe doing a fourth one a couple years ago and maybe passing it off to somebody, Renner was the guy we talked about. He’s an obvious choice, because he’s such a good actor and can carry a movie,” he said. For Damon, the “Bourne” movies strike a difficult balance that he feels Renner can successfully handle. “Those movies are really tough, because you need the guy to be internally tortured about something, and Jeremy’s the kind of guy you could watch,” Damon said. “You could remove the action and watch Jeremy just angst over something for two hours, and it could be really compelling.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Bourne Legacy.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
