Jennifer Lopez Features Lil Wayne On Next Single

‘I’m Into You’ will be next single off Love? album, which still has no release date. By Gil Kaufman Lil Wayne Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Steven Tyler isn’t the only “American Idol” judge trying to make the most of a double dose of weekly prime-time exposure on TV’s biggest reality show. While Aerosmith’s back catalog has gotten a boost thanks to its prominent placement on “Idol,” fellow judge Jennifer Lopez has parlayed her spot on the program into the highest-charting single of her career with “On the Floor.” And over the weekend, she revealed that she’s got a strong follow-up single ready to go. Speaking with fans during an online chat , on Saturday, Lopez said she’s finished a song called “I’m Into You” with Lil Wayne that will be the next single from her still unscheduled Love? album. “My next single I believe will be a song called ‘I’m Into You’ and it’s going to feature Lil Wayne, so look out for that,” she said. Asked to name her favorite rapper, Lopez said it used to be Nas, but that these days she’s really feeling Weezy, whom she called a “very unique” and “fresh” voice. “Plus he’s on my single!” And though J.Lo did not have a specific release date to announce for the album, she said it would “probably” come out in late May, once two or three singles have hit radio. That would be perfect timing, of course, since “Idol” wraps in mid-May. Lopez, who has toured sporadically during her music career, also said that she planned to launch a world tour in support of Love? . Over the course of the two years she worked on the new album, Lopez said she also recorded Spanish-language versions of some of the songs, and plans to release a full-length Spanish album next. Asked what the hardest part of being a judge on “Idol” this season has been so far, Lopez said, “I didn’t expect that it would be such an emotional roller coaster for me.” She also admitted that saying goodbye to the departing contestants has been very difficult for her. Casey Abrams Hospitalized During ‘American Idol’ Results Show

‘I got some nice fresh blood in me and feeling better,’ finalist tweets. By Gil Kaufman “American Idol” Finalist Casey Abrams Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images There was a conspicuous absence on Thursday night’s “American Idol” elimination show, long before Ashthon Jones got booted out of the top 13. That didn’t happen until the end of the show. It was judges’ darling and bushy-bearded budding sex symbol Casey Abrams . After another impressive performance on Wednesday night, when he took on Joe Cocker’s version of the Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends,” the 19-year-old film-camp counselor was nowhere to be seen on the stage. Host Ryan Seacrest announced at the top of the show that Abrams was hospitalized for the second time this season and would not be joining his pals for the results broadcast. “You’ll notice that Casey is missing from the group. He is unfortunately sick and in the hospital right now,” Seacrest announced. “Wave to him. … We know you’re watching buddy, feel better — shout-out to the nurses. Get back here soon, OK?” While a spokesperson for “Idol” told MTV News that no further details were available on Abrams’ illness on Thursday night, the bass-playing singer tweeted about the situation after the show, writing “Hey guys, thanks for the well wishes, I got some nice fresh blood in me and feeling better. People at Idol & Cedars are treatin me real good.” An unnamed “Idol” insider reportedly told the Hollywood Reporter that Abrams received two blood transfusions while in the hospital to treat a condition called ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory condition that affects the lining of the large intestine. Earlier this season, on February 23, Abrams was rushed to the ER after complaining about stomach pains and almost missed the subsequent taping of the top-12 men’s performances, which potentially would have eliminated him from the competition before the finals. Abrams was in no danger of going home on Thursday night’s show, but if his condition continues and he is unable to perform next week, he could be sent home. Last season, eventual runner-up Crystal Bowersox nearly missed out on her chance to stay on the show when she was rushed to the hospital, necessitating a rare lineup shuffle that forced the men to perform a night earlier than scheduled. Had Bowersox not recovered in time, producers said that she was in danger of being eliminated from the show. ‘Jersey Shore’ Star Sammi Reveals Her ‘American Idol’ Favorite

It’s all about Casey Abrams: ‘I love him — his attitude, his charisma,’ closet ‘Idol’ fans says on ‘Idol Party Live.’ By Katie Byrne, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Sammi Photo: Jonathan Goldner/ MTV News “Idol Party Live” took a trip to the Jersey Shore on Thursday (March 10), when Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola stopped by to chat with MTV News “American Idol” expert Jim Cantiello. Who knew Sammi was a closet “Idol” fan? “I think I just really like watching it this time around because there’s so many amazing singers,” she said. “Everyone’s unique in their own way and brings their own flair to the show.” We had to find out who the reality-TV star is rooting for this season, and she had to praise her #1 guy: Casey Abrams. “I love him — his attitude, his charisma, he’s funny, he brings something new every week,” she gushed. “I just like his style. I get chills. Whenever I get chills when I watch ‘American Idol,’ I know I love somebody.” In honor of Sammi’s “Jersey Shore” catchphrase — “I’m done” — we played a round of “Done or Fun” with the “Idol” contestants. So who did Sam find fun, and who was she over? She gave a thumbs-up to Casey (of course) and also Stefano Langone, James Durbin and Thia Megia, but it wasn’t sunshine and rainbows all around. While Sammi thinks Jacob Lusk is “fabulous, don’t get me wrong,” she “didn’t like his song choice.” But she isn’t quite “done” with him yet: “Let’s put him as a maybe.” Lauren Alaina, on the other hand, has been completely written off by the “Jersey Shore” starlet. “I think she’s so cute, but I think she’s still young and has a long way to come to progress,” she explained. “Maybe I’m just done because she’s up against these other amazing singers.” We had to slip in a few “Shore” questions, and Cantiello brought up Sam’s recent Ronnie dis when she told her ex he looked “pale.” This prompted recent “Idol” castoff Rachel Zevita, also an “Idol Party Live” guest, to wonder: “If he’s pale, what would I look like in that house?” “We’ll give you a spray tan before you come to the house,” Sammi promised. James Durbin Soars With Paul McCartney Cover On ‘American Idol’

‘Dangerous’ Durbin surprises judges with his rendition of the Wings staple ‘Maybe I’m Amazed.’ By Adam Graham James Durbin performs on “American Idol” Wednesday Photo: FOX James Durbin has one of those big, overpowering voices that can be difficult to rein in. But on Wednesday’s (March 9) episode of “American Idol,” he was able to keep it in check, and turned in one of the evening’s standout performances. After tearing through Judas Priest’s heavy metal classic “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’ ” on last week’s show, one may have expected Durbin to go back to the metal playbook this week, when contestants were asked to sing a song by one of their personal idols. Instead, Durbin threw a curveball and opted to sing Paul McCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed,” which was recorded by Wings in 1976 (and may be familiar to fans of “The O.C.” as the song played at Julie Cooper’s wedding in the season-one finale). Durbin said he admired McCartney for his versatility and for being one of the best musicians, writers and singers in rock history, and said he one day also hopes to be remembered in those terms. In the studio, Durbin teamed up with producer Jim Jonsin (Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop,” T.I.’s “Whatever You Like”) to work on the song’s arrangement, and Jonsin pumped up the song with a bit of a hip-hop backbeat. Interscope Records head honcho Jimmy Iovine praised Durbin’s mighty pipes, saying “Idol” is a perfect vehicle for a voice like Durbin ‘s to be discovered. “You don’t hear many voices like that,” he said. “I didn’t even know kids were out there singin’ like that!” On the “Idol” stage, Durbin — flaunting a fresh haircut, a clean-shaven face and without the scarf “tail” he wore last week — did justice to “Amazed,” and didn’t drive it over a cliff with his over-the-top vocal wails. Instead, he held back and showed a more reserved side of himself, and displayed a range, both vocally and emotionally, that proved he was more than the one-trick-pony/ Adam Lambert clone as his detractors had him pegged. The judges dug the way he changed things up and managed to “slay” it, in Randy Jackson’s words. “I was like, ‘Yo, this dude can do anything, man!” the Dawg told him. “James Durbin is dangerous, America. This guy can sing!” Steven Tyler followed suit, saying Durbin took everything he ever felt and “kicked it into the middle of next week” — apparently that’s a good thing — and Jennifer Lopez complimented his vocal skills. “The truth is you have what the greatest rock singers have, which is a melodic quality to your voice,” she said. And it appears as though we’re going to hear plenty more of that voice in the weeks to come. What did you think of James Durbin’s performance? Let us know in the comments! ‘American Idol’ Top 13 Performance Show Will Be Pretaped

Producer Nigel Lythgoe says pretaping will continue for several weeks as new judges and director get up to speed. By Gil Kaufman Casey Abrams Photo: FOX If you were looking forward to watching the “American Idol” top 13 perform live for the first time on Wednesday night (March 9), well, you’ll have to just keep waiting. The singers pretaped their performances on Tuesday night after the Fox network confirmed that the show is not quite ready to go fully live. A network representative told People magazine, “we have pretaped shows at this stage of the competition before … although it’s rare.” Among the reasons the network cited for pretaping the show is to make sure that all 13 contestants’ performances make it into the two-hour broadcast. It is only the second time in “Idol” history that there have been 13 finalists, and even with 12 singers in the past, producers have sometimes struggled to get all the songs in without running over . Because some “Idol” fans are conspiracy-minded by nature, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe launched a preemptive strike on Twitter on Sunday to explain and defend the decision to keep the performances taped for the next few weeks. “We are pretaping for 2 weeks as we have a new Director & new judges. It has nothing to do with manipulation you morons.” That comment, of course, led to some spirited back-and-forth between Lythgoe and said “morons,” some of whom needled Lythgoe about the alleged manipulation. “I love you all getting riled up. The Tweet was directed at the MORONS who said we are pretaping to manipulate the show. Not the TRUE fans!” wrote Lythgoe, who eventually threw his hands up and added, “Sorry I can’t play anymore I have to go to work. There’s manipulating to be done. xox.” He updated the situation on Tuesday, lamenting , “It’s been a tough day trying to get the sound right. With a mix of live band, Jimmy Iovine’s amazing producer’s tracks and live vocals.” He also revealed later in the day that the top 13 had recorded vocals for full-length tracks, which he believes will be available on iTunes after the show airs on Wednesday. Thursday night’s elimination show will air live. Raekwon Battles Himself On Shaolin Vs. Wu-Tang

‘It’s … dealing in my mind and everything that I been through, and dealing with the crew,’ Rae tells MTV News of new solo LP. By Paul Cantor Raekwon Photo: Roger Kisby/ Getty Images Raekwon the Chef knows a thing or two about Shaolin and Wu-Tang. The title of the MC’s fifth solo album, Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang, represents the New York City borough he hails from, Staten Island — whose street name in rap circles is Shaolin — and, of course, the MC has been a key member of the iconic Wu-Tang Clan since its founding in the early ’90s. Ultimately, though, Rae’s album, which dropped on Tuesday (March 8), is inspired (like many things Wu-Tang) by the classic 1981 Gordon Liu film of the same name, about a rivalry between two schools of ancient martial arts. “[The film is about] basically two schools fighting with one another,” Raekwon told MTV News recently about the movie’s plot. “But they all come from the same school, and it was an outsider who actually tried to get the Shaolin style and the Wu-Tang style and have them go at one another. On this album, it’s the same thing: It’s two schools and, you know, I’m part of that school. I’m Shaolin but at the same time, I’m Wu-Tang. So really, it’s ego versus discipline, dealing in my mind and everything that I been through, and dealing with the crew.” It’s no coincidence that the concept behind Raekwon’s album focuses on two forces in opposition. Rae began working on Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang back in late 2007, after expressing disappointment with the creative direction Wu-Tang’s nominal leader, the RZA, had taken with the group’s ’07 LP, 8 Diagrams. (Fellow Wu member Ghostface Killah went so far as to call the album

Jacob Lusk Shows Off His ‘American Idol’ Happy Dance

‘I have a problem,’ he jokes to MTV News about his moves. ‘Pray for me.’ By Gil Kaufman, with reporting by Kara Warner Jacob Lusk Photo: 2011 Getty Images The judges on “American Idol” have marveled at the vocal force of Jacob Lusk ever since the gospel-drenched singer blew them away during Hollywood Week . But Lusk isn’t just a potential heir to the Luther Vandross velvet-ballad throne; he’s also a dance machine. On Thursday night, after he and 12 other “Idol” singers made it into the show’s top 13, Lusk showed off his now-signature celebration hoofing . “It’s just a happy dance. When I get happy, it starts off with a stomp, and then I just kind of get a little carried away,” he smiled when asked to demonstrate the move. “It usually happens in church. That’s kind of where it stemmed from, is from church. … I kind of have no boundaries. I have a problem. Pray for me,” he joked about his moves and how the “Idol” ride so far has inspired him to mix in some dancing with his singing. But when it comes to those rich vocals, Lusk said he has a plan for sounding modern without losing his old-school roots. “I want to stay contemporarily classic,” he explained. “For me, whatever music I sing, it doesn’t matter as long as when I’m finished singing that I’ve touched you, that something’s affected you. You can do that with a club joint, you can do that with a ballad … but I’m definitely going to try and mix it up a little bit as the season continues on.” Lusk will get another chance to be himself on Wednesday, when the top 13 take the stage for the first round of live performance and results shows and get a taste of the pressure that comes with singing on live TV every week.
