Mitt Romney ‘Wimp’ Newsweek Cover: On Point or Over the Line?

Newsweek, which raised more than a few eyebrows this year for its covers proclaiming President Obama the first gay president and for calling his critics dumb, is out with yet another controversial political cover story. This time, they call Mitt Romney a “wimp” in no uncertain terms. “Romney is the genuine article: a true wimp,” Michael Tomasky argues in his cover story, adding that “In some respects, he’s more weenie than wimp.” “Socially inept; often awkwardly ingratiating, at times mocking those ‘below’ him, but almost always getting the situation a little wrong, and never in a sympathetic way.” Romney said the story didn’t bother him though, telling CBS News that “They tried that on George Herbert Walker Bush; he was a pretty great President.” Mitt’s right, as seen in the 1987 issue pictured below (along with a couple of awesome spoofs we saw on the Romney issue for good measure). Calling Romney a wimp is probably a little much, but the cover and story underscore what a lot of his critics say makes him a weak candidate. Namely, that he’s a paper-pushing corporate technocrat devoid of personality and unable to relate to regular people, and who has no core beliefs. His supporters will vocally dispute this and laud his achievements and positive traits, of course … while others may accept it and vote for him anyway. What do you think: Is Mitt Romney a wimp?

Rewind The Track: Proud Papa Hov Brags On Baby Blue Ivy’s Baller Status On “3 Kings”

Jay-Z Says Critics Couldn’t Walk In His Daughter’s Socks The Jiggaman isn’t sparing his lil princess Blue Ivy from being spoiled in the least and he’s letting the whole world know it in song: She’s only six months old, but Jay-Z guarantees that Blue Ivy Carter’s footwear collection is already more impressive than yours. That’s the message behind the proud papa’s latest guest verse on “3 Kings,” Rick Ross’ new single off his upcoming God Forgives I Don’t. (Dr. Dre is also featured on the track.) Boasting about the “millions” hanging on his walls (in the form of Basquiat paintings), Jay raps that his critics “couldn’t f— with my daughter’s room” — or “walk in my daughter’s socks,” for that matter. Since Blue Ivy’s January 7 birth, Jay-Z, his wife Beyonce, and their friends and family have gone all out to make sure their bundle of joy has the very best clothes, furniture, and accessories. In March, the tot was spotted rocking $66 Little Marc Jacobs Baby Mouse slippers during an outing with her mom; she also reportedly naps in a $3,500 lucite crib from NurseryWorks VETRO. In May, Jay (real name: Shawn Carter) opened up during a sit-down with Oprah Winfrey about his parenting philosophy. “Well, I mean, everyone imagines they’ll be a great dad,” he admitted. “Until they’re teenagers saying, ‘Get away from me, Dad. You’re embarrassing me!’ Right? Everyone imagines that, right?” Continued the Brooklyn, NY native, “I imagine I’ll take things I learned from my mom and things I’ve learned from raising my nephews and apply that,” he explained, adding with a laugh: “Then at the end of the day, I just know I’ll probably have the worst, spoiled little kid ever.” And the irony of all this is… last time we saw Hov toting Blue Ivy she wasn’t wearing any footwear — socks or otherwise! But it’s cool, we get it. She’s rich beyond our wildest dreams. Sheeeeeit. PacificCoastNews Source

“Tanning Mom” slash human raisin Patricia Krentcil has pleaded not guilty to felony child endangerment charges and claims the story of putting her little girl in a tanning booth is being victimized in what is all a giant misunderstanding. She also says her critics “jealous, fat, and ugly.” Speaking of the latter … The 44-year-old New Jersey (where else) resident was on her way to a salon (hair) when she unloaded on a photographer and proclaimed she is a “fabulous” mother. Needless to say, she is far from apologetic. About anything. Krentcil was arrested after a school nurse asked her five-year-old daughter Anna how she got a sunburn and she replied, “I go tanning with mommy.” She faces a felony count of second-degree child endangerment. ‘To Be the Best’: Val Kilmer Takes a Bullet for Tenacious D

So this is what Val Kilmer and his luscious locks were doing hanging with Kyle Gass and Jack Black , AKA Tenacious D . In the newly released video ‘To Be the Best,’ Black and Gass find their fates have gone in different directions following the failure of their film Tenacious D: In the Pick of Destiny and only Kilmer, Dave Grohl, and Josh Groban can help mental patient Gass and “Hollywood Jack” reunite (for their new album, in stores May 15). Also on hand? Tim Robbins . Why not? The forthcoming Tenacious D album is entitled “Rize of the Fenix” and the lead single, ” Rize of the Fenix ,” starts out a little something like this: “When The Pick of Destiny was released it was a bomb/And all the critics said that The D was done…but one thing no one thought about was The D will rize again, just like the fenix…” So, yeah. Box office failure inspires creative rebirth! Or something. Let’s watch Kilmer eat it for Jack Black again. [via Cinemablend ]

George Clooney Teases Brad Pitt ‘Death Match’ At Critics’ Choice Awards

‘Descendants’ star, who bested his buddy for Best Actor, also talks politics with MTV News. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Brad Pitt and George Clooney attend the 2012 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards Photo: Getty Images It’s a pretty good week when you get the chance to talk to George Clooney once . But God bless awards season, because just a few days after catching up with the “Descendants” star on the New York red carpet at the National Board of Review, we snagged some time with him again Thursday (January 12) in Los Angeles at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards . As always, the guy was utterly charming. Can’t wait for the Golden Globes this Sunday! We can’t say the same for Clooney, who isn’t exactly impressed these days by all the awards-season hubbub. “The truth is, I think awards are always a very nice thing, in particular in helping films that are small continue to be made, because they are hard to get made,” he told MTV News. “There was a time when I was younger that the idea of them was intimidating and the idea of these kinds of shows was intimidating, and now it’s just fun, because I get to see people I like that I don’t get to see very often.” Of more interest for Clooney is the political horserace rather than the Hollywood one. “There’s been a pretty fun debate in the Republican Party ; I’ve enjoyed watching. I’m sad it’s coming to a close,” he admitted. “I’m a Democrat, so there are things that are fun about it. Listen, they’re going to find a guy, and it looks like it’s going to be Mitt Romney , and then away we go.” That’s a much more entertaining prospect than facing off against his Hollywood friends — guys like “Moneyball” star Brad Pitt, whom he’s been faux-battling all awards season. Clooney triumphed this time around, besting his pal for Best Actor at the CCMAs . “I’m sure there’s a death match,” he joked of the Clooney-vs.-Pitt hype in the media. “Look, he’s my buddy, so everything that happens that’s good for him makes me very happy.” Stick with MTV News all night for the 2012 Critics’ Choice Awards winners , and don’t miss all the fashion from the red carpet ! Let’s Hear it For J. Hoberman

This was, oh, five years in coming , but the long-time Village Voice film critic J. Hoberman has been let go from the paper. Fun fact: Hoberman’s 34-year relationship with the Voice commenced with a high-low glimpse at David Lynch’s experimental blast Eraserhead (” Eraserhead ‘s not a movie I’d drop acid for, although I would consider it a revolutionary act if someone dropped a reel of it into the middle of Star Wars “) and concluded this week with a high-low glimpse at Ken Jacobs’s experimental blast Seeking the Monkey King (“This homemade slingshot has the capacity to resist and pulverize the idiotic visual aggression of a commercial behemoth like Transformers . It’s a ’60s vision happening today—beautiful, terrifying, and determined to storm the doors of perception”). Anyway, don’t sweat it, he’ll be back. [ Capital New York ]

Angelina Jolie Calls ‘Blood And Honey’ Crew A ‘Family’

‘We were all together presenting something that we felt represented a part of history,’ first-time director/screenwriter tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Angelina Jolie on the set of “In the Land of Blood and Honey” Photo: Ken Regan / GK Films In selecting a subject for her screenwriting and directorial debut, Angelina Jolie did not choose an easy one. While some first-time directors might have gone with a romantic comedy, small-scale film or mainstream subject to tackle, Jolie’s “In the Land of Blood and Honey” is a harrowing, unrelenting drama set against the backdrop of the Bosnian War that highlights the horrors of the ethnic conflict that has occurred far too often throughout history. The film revolves around the relationship between two Bosnians on opposite sides of the conflict, Danijel ( Goran Kostic ) and Ajla ( Zana Marjanovic ) and the devastating toll the war has on their lives. When MTV News caught up with Jolie, Kostic and Marjanovic recently, we asked what aspects they were able to enjoy during the filmmaking process, since so much of the work required of the cast and crew was intense and emotional. “When we were in New York [at the premiere], and we were all together presenting something that we felt represented a part of history and brought dialogue, we were together and we were a family, and I was extremely moved by that,” Jolie said. “That was the best moment.” Jolie tapped into “something that is very personal and very private and very fixed to the region,” said Kostic, a Bosnian Serb who experienced the conflict firsthand. “This [story] could be applied to that region, but equally can be applied worldwide.” Marjanovic, a Bosnian Muslim, recounted her favorite moment being her childhood friend’s reaction to seeing the film for the first time. “Her reaction was so interesting, because she came up and said, ‘I never really understood what it was about … it’s all so confusing, such a complicated area and region, and for the first time, I actually understood what was going on,’ ” Marjanovic recalled. Check out everything we’ve got on “In the Land of Blood and Honey.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

LMFAO’s ‘Party Rock Anthem’ A ‘Big Thing’ In 2011

‘I think for some of the critics, being #1 for six weeks in a row on the Billboard, people said, ‘Now this is a real thing,’ ‘ Redfoo tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi LMFAO’s Redfoo Photo: MTV News To say 2011 has been a big year for LMFAO is an understatement. They released their second album, Sorry for Party Rocking, in June, and from that album came the fist-pumping megahit “Party Rock Anthem.” The #1 song, from the electro-pop duo of Redfoo and SkyBlu, got all music genres (and dancing hamsters) to band together for some excessive party rocking. “Party Rock Anthem” achieved serious success in 2011, staying at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for six straight weeks and becoming the seventh song to spend at least 25 weeks in the top 10. It also came in at the #2 for the best-selling single of the year on iTunes, topped only by Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.” The video for “Party Rock Anthem” caused a movement all its own, showing everyone how to shuffle and garnering more than 314 million YouTube views. Now they’re outdoing themselves with their latest single, “Sexy and I Know It,” which has reached #1 on the iTunes chart. MTV News caught up with Redfoo at Z100’s Jingle Ball concert on Friday, and he explained how the success of their chart-topping single has had such an impact on their career. “I think it just brought us into the households via the video, and it just got everybody more into dance music, because now they can shuffle, and so it was just a big thing.” Redfoo said. “I think for some of the critics, being #1 for six weeks in a row on the Billboard, people said, ‘Now this is a real thing.’ ” LMFAO don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. They will ring in the new year along with Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj in New York’s Times Square for the 40th annual “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.” What did you think of LMFAO’s big year? The 9 Most Scathing Critical Responses to New Year’s Eve

We may remember this as the week David Fincher and Scott Rudin went to war on movie critics, but think of it this way: If critics couldn’t get an early look at Garry Marshall’s New Year’s Eve , then how would any of us ever know what a soul-rending atrocity it is? I mean, even Pete Hammond hated this movie ! He was in some fine company, too:
