Dance queen says Monday’s online awards show was ‘not like doing a TV show; it was a concert.’ By Kara Warner Robyn performs at O Music Awards 2 Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images WEST HOLLYWOOD, California — If you tuned in to MTV’s second O Music Awards on Monday night, you were treated to a truly “offbeat, outrageous, online” experience, as promised. We had star presenters, surprise award recipients and a series of killer live performances, headlined by Swedish sparkplug Robyn . MTV News caught up with the “Dancing on My Own” singer immediately following her showstopping set in the heart of the West Hollywood Halloween Carnival to see what she thought of the crowd. “I would sum it up like this,” she said, pointing to a broken blood vessel in her right eye. “That’s how much I’m doing this. I’m doing it all the way! [The show] was not like doing a TV show; it was a concert, in parts. It was weird going on and off, but it was really fun.” “She was on fire — and I know fire,” one reveler dressed as the devil told us, holding up his pitchfork. “Everyone in West Hollywood loves Robyn,” added another partyer, dressed as “Sleeping Beauty” villain Maleficent. “I’m pretty sure half these people here came just to see her.” “I had no idea she was going to be here; it was such a surprise,” gushed a group of lucky concert attendees. “We had so much fun!” “It’s Halloween and people are dressed up, so yeah, it’s fun,” Robyn said of her costumed crowd. “Her energy is so intense, it’s so awesome. She got the crowd so pumped and it’s amazing out here,” added the man dressed as the devil. “It doesn’t get any better than having Robyn play down the street from your own house,” said one lucky West Hollywood resident. “Her music just makes us want to dance. The gays love to dance,” quipped one of four scantily clad Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. “She’s high-energy,” added a fellow turtle. “She’s like the artistic everyman; she represents everybody.” The O Music Awards 2 have wrapped, but you can catch up on all the winners, performances and other show highlights on OMusicAwards.com . Series-closing MCs tell MTV News the Vitamin Water project a great look for underground artists. By Steven Roberts CyHi The Prynce (file) NEW YORK — Vitamin Water hosted the last show in its “Uncapped Live” concert series at the Hudson Hotel on Wednesday night, and Freddie Gibbs , Big K.R.I.T. , CyHi the Prynce and Rye Rye came through to rock the New York City crowd. Over the last few months, the “Uncapped Live” series has partnered with up-and-coming acts to help expose them to bigger audiences. MTV News caught up with K.R.I.T. and CyHi before the show to talk about what the opportunity means to them. “They’re actually helping artists such as myself, Big K.R.I.T., Pill [and] other up-and-coming hip-hop artists that’s looking to stand on the forefront of hip-hop and the game,” CyHi told us. “We’re coming from the underground and we’re doing it organically, so they’re a big help to up-and-coming artists such as myself.” The G.O.O.D Music MC opened the show, casually walking onstage in a black tee and his signature Jesus piece; the crowd actually didn’t notice him at first. Cy went on to perform songs from his Royal Flush mixtape series and various features. But he really got the crowd rocking when he did his verse from Kanye West’s “So Appalled.” The ATLien said he loved performing in New York, because New Yorkers are typically harder to impress. “They’re the originators, and I guess you have to pay homage to the originators, and at the same time I remember me and K.R.I.T. was on the same show and I got booed. Ever since then, every time I come back it’s like pandemonium. That’s just the war wounds or the process you have to go through to become a stronger artist. A lot of crowds may not perceive you as well as other crowds may and you may think that they’re supposed to.” Big Krit — whose Live From the Underground drops September 27 — was grateful for the platform the “Uncapped” tour provided newer artists. The Mississippi MC said he loved the opportunity to perform in front of an audience that may not know have been familiar with his music, jaded New Yorkers or not. “Anywhere where you are performing in front of people who might not know who you are, it can be intimidating. But I’ve been doing this so long and I’ve been in front of crowds who knew who I was that didn’t bob their heads or really didn’t care that I was onstage. So to have the opportunity to be in front — far from where I’m from and performing my music and people are listening — it’s dope all the same, whether you get booed or don’t get booed.” Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With CyHi The Prynce Related Artists Prynce Cy Hi Big K.R.I.T.

After hitting the stage himself last year, producer/rapper looks forward to watching Lil Wayne, Pitbull performances. By Gil Kaufman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Chris Brown Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images LOS ANGELES — Swizz Beatz has been to the big show before. The sought-after producer/rapper hit the VMA stage last year to join Drake and Mary J. Blige for a memorable performance of “Fancy,” and on Sunday, he’s amped to watch Lil Wayne, Chris Brown and Pitbull do their thing. Beatz spoke to MTV News just hours before taking the stage at the Taco Bell Feed the Beat MTV2 VMA concert on Friday (August 26) at the Music Box in Los Angeles on a bill featuring Chiddy Bang and Wallpaper, and he offered some advice to Weezy and Pitbull about making VMA headlines. “The big stage is a different stage. I think it’s an opportunity to bring out even more of the creative,” he said of the need to bring a different level of game for the VMA broadcast. “Because when you’re on that big stage, you know the whole world is watching you, and people can really see your true talent and your craftsmanship.” He also recalled looking out on the crowd of his peers last year and remembering that it was all just a haze. “Honestly, when I’m onstage, I can’t really see the crowd,” he said. “The lights and everything shining in your face, it’s like a blur and you’re in your zone … [but] you can feel the crowd and your motivation is to stay focused and know that that tape is rolling and you better not mess up now, because it’s live.” After VMA performer Chris Brown jumped onstage during one of Swizzy’s recent Las Vegas events to unveil the new Beatz tune “Dance Like a White Girl,” the producer said the reaction was “pandemonium.” That’s why he’s excited about Brown’s VMA slot, warning, “Everybody get ready. Y’all better get ready.” Brown’s choreographers, Rich and Tone , seconded that emotion, telling MTV News that we will see Chris in “1,000 percent mode.” Even with his table-hopping performance still on people’s minds, the pair said Sunday night could be on a whole other level. “We’ve been working with Chris for many years; I’ve never seen him this way on this performance ever,” Tone said. “He’s pulling out all his tricks on this one. He’s definitely gonna show you something fresh and new; something he has never done before.” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8.
