New Jersey

For the weekend, here’s a gallery of pics from a book signing I did in New Jersey this past week. I started the day doing some radio interviews, which incidentally seem to me so much easier to do than televised ones. I’ve been so grateful for all the supportive fans of the site, and for my Dad and family who have come out to these events. I enjoy meeting the kids and teenagers who have turned out to meet us, along with their families, including some very sweet grandmothers! Song of the Day: “Come Dance With Me” by Frank Sinatra

Cat Deeley Talks to Movieline About So You Think You Can Dance’s Changes and Stealing Emmys

Cat Deeley’s hosting gig on So You Think You Can Dance acquaints her with talents who want a quick rise to stardom, but her beginnings in TV happened just as swiftly. The 33-year-old star landed an on-air job in her native UK after sending one self-made audition tape to MTV. That job led to countless others, including hosting duties on Brit reality series The Record of the Year and Reach for the Stars . Now that she emcees the US and UK versions of So You Think You Can Dance , Deeley seems poised for a universal takeover. Ahead of SYTYCD ‘s seventh season premiere tonight on Fox, Deeley spoke with Movieline about her academic past, Emmy aspirations, and how the show will be different without Mary Murphy as a permanent judge.

Kelly Rowland Thanks David Guetta, Lady Gaga For Dance-Music Craze

‘He studies his music, and he sees what people react to,’ singer says of Guetta, who worked on her upcoming LP. These days, it seems as if everyone is getting in on the dance-music craze, which has been fueled by chart-topping releases by everyone from Lady Gaga and Ke$ha to the Black Eyed Peas and Akon . And the genre’s resurgence has a lot to do with the rise of the celebrity DJ, as seen with music-industry darling David Guetta . Kelly Rowland , who worked with Guetta on much of her forthcoming, yet-untitled solo album, said she has all the aforementioned artists to thank for the sound on her project. “We have wonderful artists to thank, like Gaga, who have opened up the doors and just really made it start to be a thing,” the former Destiny’s Child member told MTV News when she stopped by the offices on Wednesday (May 26). But the credit doesn’t just go to Gaga: “With David and the Black Eyed Peas, Will.I.Am, we have them to thank,” Rowland added. Rowland might be a bit biased when it comes to Guetta. The two have found chart success already with their 2009 song “When Love Takes Over,” so it felt natural for them to reunite on this project, including the album’s first single, “Commander.” She loved having him bring his musical vision to her project. “He studies the crowd and, I think, he studies his music, and he sees what people react to,” she said. “And that’s what separates him, for me, [from] any other producer.” Are you excited to hear what else Rowland and Guetta have in store for her album? ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Finale: Nicole Scherzinger Wins It All

Evan Lysacek and Erin Andrews settle for second and third, respectively, during action-packed finale. By Kara Warner Ten weeks of fierce competition, a diverse cast of headline-making celebrities and countless can’t-believe-they-stayed-on costumes all boiled down to Tuesday night’s (May 25) “Dancing With the Stars” season finale. And after two hours and a slew of great performances, the coveted mirror-ball trophy was bestowed, as many predicted, upon Nicole Scherzinger and her partner, Derek Hough. The season-ten favorites beat out second-place finishers Olympian Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya and third-place duo Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. The winners kicked off the evening’s “favorite dance” round with the first of a trio of fiery Argentine tangos (all three dancing couples performed the Argentine tango for that round), which garnered rave reviews from the judges and sealed their place in the final two. But it was their final, high-energy jive to Ike & Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary” that clinched the win. Their performance prompted veteran ballroom judge Len Goodman to call the competition 20 minutes prior to the winner being announced — and before Lysacek and Trebunskaya had taken the floor. “There is only one winner of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ — it should be you,” he boldly stated. The always effusive Bruno Tonioli agreed: “This has been the best season of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ ever! You two have produced the most inventive, stunning dances I’ve ever seen! This [dance] was the crowning glory of an amazing season.” Carrie Ann Inaba said simply, “You set this place on fire.” As for Scherzinger and Hough, they were over the moon. “I’m just so flippin’ happy right now!” the Pussycat Dolls frontwoman declared. The show’s other highlights, in addition to great performances by Lysacek and Andrews and a few teary goodbyes, included Buzz Aldrin’s brief return to the dance floor in a sparkly jumpsuit and Niecy Nash and Pamela Anderson “who’s the sexiest?” showstopper. The cheesiest moment was easily when “The Bachelor” couple Jake Pavelka and his fianc

‘Dancing With The Stars’ Recap: Erin Andrews Fights For Finale

The ESPN reporter scored higher than Nicole Scherzinger and Evan Lysacek on final performance night. By Kelley L. Carter Derek Hough and Nicole Scherzinger on “Dancing with the Stars” Photo: ABC In the first part of the “Dancing With the Stars” finale on Monday night, the remaining three celebrities and their pro partners had to dance a judge-assigned “redemption” routine and a freestyle of their choosing to determine who will ultimately take home the top prize on Tuesday (May 25). But by the show’s end, there were no perfect scores, and not even the judges would venture a guess about who would win. First up were ESPN reporter Erin Andrews and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. In the rehearsal footage before their so-called redemption, judge Bruno Tonioli handed the pair the samba, a dance he said Andrews needed to work on. “The movements were sharper, crisper and the confidence was in your face. It was just fun,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba said. Score: 29/30 For their freestyle routine, the two opted for a lyrical freestyle and turned out a romantic routine, complete with a bed on stage. “Bruno promised me he’d teach me how to walk in heels; that didn’t happen Bruno,” Andrews joked. Score: 26/30, for a 55/60 total Olympian Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya were told to re-do the Viennese waltz because they had issues with their chemistry. “We want to bring everything from the last 10 weeks to the dance floor tonight,” Lysacek said. The judges liked the connection between the two of them. “Smiling, romantic, sweet,” Tonioli said. Goodman said the connection between them was much improved. “We were happy to do it again, but [we have] just mixed emotions tonight. We’re so sad that the competition is almost over and the show is almost over,” Lysacek said. Score: 28/30 For their next dance, Evan and Anna freestyled to “Footloose.” The judges didn’t seem too impressed, though, giving them 24/30 for a total of 52/60. Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and her partner, Derek Hough, had to repeat the rumba, with judges citing how nervous the pop singer appeared to be the first go-round. “As far as your performance goes, the only way you can grow is to become vulnerable. This was the most mesmerizing. I could not take my eyes off any movement,” Inaba said. Goodman said he loved the subtlety of the dance, but noted there was a lack of confidence. Score: 28/30 Later in the show, Scherzinger and Hough picked a fast-paced, high-octane routine, but it wasn’t a hip-hop, as some might have predicted from the pop star. “That’s the freestyle we’ve all been waiting for. That was fantastic,” Inaba said. The judges loved it, giving them solid 9’s for a 27/30 and a total of 55/60. Who do you think will win “Dancing With the Stars”? Dancing with the Stars: Erin Andrews Ties Nicole Scherzinger, But Who Will Voters Choose?

Might Erin Andrews have pulled off an incredible Dancing with the Stars upset? In our finals preview yesterday, we listed her as a long shot against favorite Nicole Scherzinger and dark horse Evan Lysacek, each of whom are more skilled. Somebody either forgot to tell Erin she was the underdog heading into last night’s final performances, or did tell her and provided her bulletin board material. Erin Andrews tied Nicole with an aggregate 55, meaning it really will come down to every last vote. Can she muster enough support to win the Mirror Ball? Teaming with Maksim Chmerkovskiy on a Samba to kick off the night, Erin scored a 29. Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya got a 28 on the Viennese Waltz. Nicole and Derek Hough’s Rumba netted a 28. In the freestyle round, Nicole made up one point on Erin, tying for the overall lead. Evan faltered somewhat. Erin Andrews mauls Maksim Chmerkovskiy in bed. Art imitating life? If Scherzinger still has a slight edge, it’s because she and Derek went for the toughest moves, almost resulting in Nicole falling off his shoulders at one point. Erin and Maks, meanwhile, chose to do a lyrical freestyle, which seemed So You Think You Can Dance -esque with props and unadulterated sexual chemistry. So can Erin actually pull off the upset on tonight’s results show – when Kate Gosselin returns , Vienna Girardi debuts and the season winner is unveiled at last? She earned consideration at the very least. Nicole will likely get the title and it will be well-earned, but she won’t run away with it. Last night’s full scorecard: Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy: Samba: 29. Freestyle: 26. Total: 55 . Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough: Rumba: 28. Freestyle: 27. Total: 55 . Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya: Waltz: 28. Freestyle: 24. Total: 52 . Click to enlarge some more photos from last night … Who do you want to win Dancing with the Stars?
