The remains of the singer – who died on Christmas Day 2006 (25.12.06) of a suspected heart attack aged 73 – were being held at his daughter Deanna's house in South Carolina while a public mausoleum is being prepared. However, LaRhonda Pettit, one of James' illegitimate daughters, claims the body of the 'Papa's Got A Brand New Bag' singer has gone missing to prevent her carrying out an autopsy to determine the true cause of his death. LaRhonda, 48, is convinced James was actually killed by people trying to get his money. She said: “My daddy's body has disappeared. I have no clue where it was taken, but I need to know where. “I'm convinced his death was suspicious and I want the people responsible brought to justice. “The only way to do that is to exhume his body and have an autopsy. I cannot understand why one was never conducted.” LaRhonda is one of a dozen people to come forward after James' death and claim to be one of his children, and in 2007 she took a DNA test which gave a result that he was 99.9 per cent likely to be her father. She claims James had an affair with her mother in the 60s. The soul singer – who was known as the 'Godfather of Soul' – had nine children by four wives and his will named six children as beneficiaries, not including LaRhonda. LaRhonda added to America's Globe newspaper: “It was common knowledge that my daddy took illegal drugs. “He was also hooked on various prescription painkillers. Authorities have identified 36 year-old John Patrick Bedell as the man who calmly opened fire at a Pentagon checkpoint Thursday, wounding two police officers before being killed himself. His Internet activity suggests a man with deeply paranoid political views. According to the AP, Bedell walked up to a Pentagon checkpoint at 6:40pm, drew a gun and began shooting. Richard Keevill, the chief of Pentagon police told the AP: “He just reached in his pocket, pulled out a gun and started shooting… He walked up very cool. He had no real emotion on his face.” Here is Bedell, also with no real emotion on his face, as he explains in a Youtube video his complex system of “information currency,” which appears to have been one of his obsessions: Bedell was clearly intelligent; he was an avid software developer and aspiring engineer who worked to develop technology he believed would lead to “liberty and justice. He was nonetheless a certifiable wackjob. Steve Huff at mediaelites has posted a summary of what can be gleaned from Bedell’s Internet activity. Bedell, who had a bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, believed the government was behind 9/11, and these beliefs interfaced strangely with an enthusiasm for marijuana legalization and the “Information Currency” system he explains above. Speaking of the suicide of Marine Col. James Sabow—who 9/11 conspiracy theorists believe was assassinated to cover up a 9/11 plot—Bedell wrote on his wikipedia profile (now deleted): I am determined to see that justice is served in the death of Colonel James Sabow, as a step toward establishing the truth of events such as the September 11 demolitions and institutions such as the coup regime of 1963 that mantains itself in power through the global drug trade, financial corruption, and murder, among other crimes. Bedell claims these beliefs led him to attempt to devise a subversive marijuana-based monetary system based on his ideas of Information Currency. He started with a 16-plant growing operation on his balcony in Irving, CA. (In fact, Bedell uploaded a picture of his own pot plant to wikipedia.) Police discovered his plants in June 2006 and he was arrested. The felony complaint, which he posted to a pro-marijuana website, details a contentious arrest: When the police came to Bedell’s door, he wouldn’t let them in and began resisting arrest, pushing against police and collapsing to the floor when they tried to bring hm out of his apartment: Here’s what they found: His marijuana operation thwarted, he appeared to turn his efforts to the Internet and his software development company, Infoenge. (The first post on the company’s blog is October 3, 2006 ) With Infoeng, Bedell working on technology that might someday lead to ” a USB flash drive that performs personal DNA sequencing information “—presumably as a component of his Information Currency scheme. Almost every trace Bedell left on the Internet from that point on displays an obsession with information—storing, retrieving, and revealing it—coupled with boilerplate Libertarian and pro-marijuana ideology. His wikipedia talkpage is a litany of rejected edits, detailing his efforts to insert 9/11 truther dogma into various pages. An Amazon review praises the book Inside Delta Force for its Insights into America’s Secret History He apparently left audio recordings as well, which he posted to the Internet Archive. A two-part address called “Directions to Freedom” which proses “directions to freedom, security, and prosperity, which could be considered his manifesto. “Directions to Freedom” opens with Hello, thank you for listening. I have an intense personal desire for freedom and I need your help so we can, together, continue to enjoy the benefits of freedom and work toward the more perfect realization of liberty and justice in our society. Anyone hoping for a better glimpse at what led Bedell from an obsession with the liberating power of information to violence would probably do well starting with these recordings—which he transcribed on his blog here . What Bedell did was terrible, but any attempt at writing Bedell off as simply a brain-washed Glenn Beck zombie or an idiotic anti-government 9/11 truther can’t capture the complexity of his motivations and the singular weirdness going on in his brain. By Kyle Anderson Andrew Garcia Photo: FOX The ninth season of “American Idol” has been amusing so far, delivering a number of memorable moments (including Larry Platt’s “Pants on the Ground” and frontrunner Andrew Garcia’s memorable take on Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up”), but the real business starts tonight. The top 24 have been selected, and now the competition becomes heated. The 12 remaining women will sing tonight, with the 12 men performing on Wednesday (February 24). And despite the fact that producer and judge Simon Cowell believes that a woman will win “American Idol” this time around, the short odds are currently on Garcia, the “Straight Up” singer with former gangsters for parents. According to Internet betting site Bodog , Garcia is an early favorite to win the season by a count of 4-1 (meaning that a bet of $1 will return $4). The ‘American Idol’ Season 9 Top 24 Though Bodog believes Garcia is the favorite, a series of women follow in his wake. Would-be diva Ashley Rodriguez follows close behind with 7-1 odds, just in front of Didi Benami (who performed “Hey Jude” for her deceased best friend in her audition and who has the same chances as Rodriguez). Crystal Bowersox (the dreadlocked girl with the adorable son) and Katie Stevens (the 16-year-old singing for her Alzheimer’s-stricken grandmother) round out the top five with odds of 15-2. In fact, you have to go pretty deep into the list to find another guy (the next on the list is Todrick Hall, who shows up with 15-1 odds). And what is Bodog’s opinion on the long shot for this season? That would be Joe Munoz at 65-1 (who is probably down here because the audience knows next- to nothing about him at the moment). Of course, these lines are likely to change once the public really gets to know the singers in the top 24 and the judges begin to weigh in on their work. Downey Johnny Depp Photo: Soul Brother/FilmMagic Johnny Depp added his name to the long list of celebrities and activists calling for authorities to re-examine the convictions of the West Memphis Three, a trio of young men convicted nearly two decades ago of murdering three children in West Memphis, Arkansas. The often press-shy actor will appear in a pre-taped interview on CBS’ “48 Hours Mystery” on Saturday. “I firmly believe Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley are totally innocent,” Depp said, according to a New York Post report. “It was a need for swift justice to placate the community. Damien Echols is on death row to be killed by lethal injection.” The “48 Hours” episode will discuss new DNA evidence and alleged juror misconduct that could potentially clear the West Memphis Three, according to the report. After the gruesome beating deaths of three 8-year-old boys shocked the small Southern town, many activists believe authorities rushed to convict the West Memphis Three based more on the trio’s dark clothing and love of heavy metal than facts. The sensational trial, conviction and aftermath — which has divided the community and the world at large for more than 16 years — were documented in a pair of acclaimed films by directors Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky: “Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills” and “Paradise Lost 2: Revelations.” The pair went on to make “Metallica: Some Kind of Monster” after the band provided music to their West Memphis Three documentaries. Depp and Metallica are joined in their support for the West Memphis Three by Eddie Vedder, Winona Ryder, Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks and Henry Rollins, who organized a benefit album for the trio a few years ago, to name a few. Last month, Demi Lovato offered her support via Twitter , writing: “Can everyone just take a second to read this please www.wm3.org a truly worthy cause. Show your support!!” followed by , “FREE THE WEST MEMPHIS THREE!!! :(.” Echols, Baldwin and Misskelley were teenagers at the time of their convictions. The verdicts have continuously been challenged through legal channels, but they all remain in prison, with Echols on death row. Many believe that circumstantial evidence seemed to point to other potential suspects.
