Race Matters: Michelle Rodriguez Recently Discovered Her Father’s Ancestors Practiced Inbreeding To Keep The Fam “Light And Bright”

SMH… Some Latino folk have serious “complexion” issues — and have gone to extremes to keep the kids lightskinned! Just ask Michelle Rodriguez , who recently learned that many of her ancestors wed their first cousins. Michelle Rodriguez Learned Her Ancestors Practiced Incest To Keep The Bloodline Lightskinned “Lost” hottie MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ is the product of kissing cousins! The 33-year-old actress recently learned that her great-great grandparents on her father’s side were first cousins — and that several more of her dad’s relatives practiced inbreeding! “I guess my father’s side loved to do it in the family,” quipped Michelle, who soared to stardom in the 2000 indie hit “Girlfight.” Researchers discovered her family’s incestuous link when Michelle’s genealogical background was explored on the PBS show “Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr.” she also Learned that three of her great-grandfathers were brothers, and that her father’s Puerto Rican ancestors deliberately married family members in a practice known as endogamy. They inbred in a bid to maintain the family’s lighter skin color because they believed lighter-skinned people were more high class than dark-skinned folks. The “Avatar” actress, who was born in San Antonio, Texas, said that she witnessed the effects of endogamy first-hand as a child when her father’s light-skinned Puerto Rican family looked down on her mother’s darker relatives from the Dominican Republic. Her parents divorced when she was 8, and Michelle — who has several DUI busts under her belt — credits her difficult childhood for her tough-girl image both on and off the screen. “My dad was so clouded and miserable part of the time, so he just hit the bottle hard,” she said. “My mom wasn’t about that stuff.” On the PBS show, the “Machete” star was also stunned to learn that her DNA lineage was 72 percent European, 21 percent black and 6 percent Native American. “I’m appalled,” said Michelle. “I’m European? Ewww! I wanted to be Native American!” As for the news that she’s got a lot of African- American blood, Michelle said: “I need to shoot over there (Africa) and get in touch with my roots.” And commenting on her ancestors’ marital history, the still-single beauty told a pal: “Even though my great-grandparents were first cousins, I don’t think I’ll ever go down that path if I ever get married.” So does this mean Michelle will settle down with a nice brownskinned lady partner when she’s ready? Gotye To Release ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ Remix Album

Australian singer also prepping U.S. tour and re-release of his 2006 album. By Gil Kaufman Gotye Photo: Eleven Gotye has scored the longest-running #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with “Somebody That I Used To Know.” So if one hit is good, 10 must be better, right? That seems to be the logic behind the upcoming release of a “Somebody” remix album, which, according to The Hollywood Reporter , is scheduled to drop on iTunes June 8 and feature reworkings of the song by Adrock, Tiesto, Gang of Colours, Bibio, M-Phazes, Faux Pas, 4Frnt, Sneaker For, Dan Aux and Miami Nights 1984. “Somebody” just marked its seventh week at #1, passing the year’s other inescapable single, fun.’s “We Are Young,” which held the top spot for six weeks. And if you’re psyched about that Gotye bounty, you’ll be even more excited to hear that the singer’s Australia-only 2006 sophomore album, Like Drawing Blood , will get re-released in the U.S. in July. But wait, there’s more! Gotye will kick off a 33-date North American tour on August 22 in Denver, Colorado at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre with support from Chairlift, Missy Higgins and Zammuto, but, alas, not Kimbra, the other voice heard on “Somebody.” Along the way, the tour will take Gotye to a number of landmark events and venues, including the Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival, Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre, New York’s Radio City Music Hall, Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium and Austin, Texas, where he’ll wrap things up on October 13 with a slot at the Austin City Limits festival. The dates for Gotye’s North American tour:

Virginie Efira Shows Off Her French Cannes

I don’t know who this Virginie Efira chick is, probably some fancy European actress or something like that, but man does she ever know how to make an appearance on the red carpet. Here she is at the Cannes Film Festival showing some leg and dropping a ton of Euro cleave. How do you say “How much for a motorboat?” in French. I’m sure it sounds a whole lot more exotic. I need to travel more.

Kristen Stewart’s Amazing Side Boob

I’ve had a ton of pictures of Kristen Stewart on the site of the last little while, most of the time she’s giving us some pissy looks or wearing some sort of annoying, not at all flattering hipster costume, but it looks like she’s finally stepped up to the plate. Finally is right! Here she is dropping some amazing cleavage on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival over the weekend. This is beyond cleavage, it’s like inner sideboob. That’s impressive. She’s still giving those pissy look though. Hot.

Cannes Bans Controversial Comedy The Anti-Semite

A year after Lars von Trier was publicly castigated for making a Hitler joke at Cannes , the festival has banned a controversial comedy by French comedian/provocateur Dieudonné. Entitled The Anti-Semite , the film was scheduled to play not in the official festival but in the Cannes Film Market, but outrage over its content — including mockery of Auschwitz and Dieudonné in Nazi dress — led the organization to scrap screenings. According to Agence France-Presse, the film includes “images deriding Auschwitz,” “Dieudonne’s violent and alcoholic character dressed as a Nazi officer for a fancy dress party,” and “Holocaust denier Robert Faurisson [appearing] as himself.” Produced by the Iranian Documentary and Experimental Film Center, The Anti-Semite stars Dieudonné, who has been charged numerous times for violating European laws with his controversial statements and performances, including one recent show in France that was halted mid-performance by authorities “for breaking local defamation laws.” As for the Cannes screening, the Cannes Film Market’s Jerome Paillard explained the move thusly: “Our general conditions ban the presence of all films threatening public order or religious convictions, as well as pornographic films or those inciting violence.” [ AFP via The Wrap ]

Robert Pattinson Talks Cosmopolis Re-Team, Says Cronenberg Wanted to Film His Junk

On the eve of his Cannes debut in David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis , Robert Pattinson spoke with Metro France about a host of topics, most notably his fear of being fired from the film and his eagerness to reunite with the director on a “really weird” film about the film industry. And, oh yes: His balls. More specifically, how Cronenberg really wanted to get them in a shot for one particularly revealing scene… [ GALLERY: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and more at the Cannes Film Festival ] Granted, the nuance of language gets a bit lost via Google Translation (hat tip to fan blog Robert Pattinson Life for their translated version). Either way, temper your expectations: The Pattinson junk did not make it to the screen as planned. “Five minutes before we filmed, David told me, ‘I want to see the bottom of your balls on the top of the frame.’ At the moment, I reminded myself that I would do anything for him. So I went back to see him and told him that wouldn’t happen. He took it really well. At the start, it’s a very bizarre scene that you won’t see again in another movie, I promise.” Oh, that Cronenberg! Pattinson also told Metro France about the film he hopes to reunite with Cronenberg on after he hunts Saddam Hussein in Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire’s Mission: Blacklist : “I don’t know when exactly we’re going to shoot. It will be David’s first movie in America. In Los Angeles, to be exact. It will be about the film industry and I promise that it’s going to be really weird.” As it should be. Read more here and here , and follow Movieline’s Cannes coverage as Cosmopolis debuts tomorrow.

Kelly Brook Busts Out The Golden Globes

I told you yesterday that I’d have more pictures of Kelly Brook at the Cannes Film Festival , and sometimes I’m a man of my word. Here she is hamming it up for the cameras in some weird figure skater like costume. I don’t get it either, but she’s hot so I don’t care. These are by no means as sexy as the shots of the busty Brit’s massive breasts falling out of that weird bathing suit, but I see cleavage and that’s all I need. Enjoy.

Charlize Theron ‘Fell In Love’ With ‘Agent 13’ Concept

‘Snow White’ actress tells MTV News how she ‘stalked’ director Rupert Wyatt after hearing about the sci-fi adaptation. By Fallon Prinzivalli, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Charlize Theron Photo: MTV News Charlize Theron has played more than a few not-so-nice characters. She received critical acclaim for her role in “Young Adult,” where she played an unstable woman intent on winning back her married high school sweetheart. Now she’s working on a project with “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” director Rupert Wyatt called “Agent 13,” in which she’ll reportedly play another femme fatale. When MTV News caught up with the “Snow White and the Huntsman” actress, she revealed how the sci-fi project came together. “It’s a pitch that I heard a month or so ago and I fell in love with this pitch,” she said. “And ironically, at the same time, I really wanted to have a general [meeting] — ’cause you know how I stalk directors — with Rupert ’cause I really love what he’s been doing. I brought up the pitch to him and he said, ‘I really love this. I think we should talk about it.’ And so it was really just the universe coming together.” “Agent 13” is an adaptation of a 1988 comic book that follows an organization called the Brotherhood, which comprises survivors of the lost civilization of Lemuria. The title character was kidnapped by the Brotherhood as a young boy and trained to be one of their top spies. When Agent 13 realizes the group has been corrupted, though, he sets off to take them down. Fans are speculating that Theron will play one of the agent’s two sidekicks — his seductive lover, China White, or his beautiful, devoted assistant Maggie Darr — but the actress isn’t sure which character she’ll play. “You know, we’re writing it right now so it’s a very, very loose pitch,” she said, “but it’s an alternate world story so it’s big and epic and cool.” With the Wyatt project still in its early stages, fans can get their fill of evil Theron as the wicked Queen Ravenna in “Snow White” when it opens on June 1. Her character’s cruel nature, she said, gave her license to act like a jerk between takes. “I’m like yelling for sandwiches and coffee,” she joked. “And then, Chris [Hemsworth] comes by and he’s like, ‘You’re not shooting right now, Charlize!’ And I say, ‘Your head on a silver platter!’ And he says, ‘No, you’re not the queen right now.’ And then it crushes me, and I cry, and I deal with it.” While Theron hasn’t ruled out playing the nice girl, she teasingly said that for now she takes on the roles most familiar to her. “I stick with what I’m good at,” she said, laughing.
