Lee DeWyze After ‘American Idol’ Win: ‘I Don’t Know Where I Am’

‘It felt like there was a huge weight lifted off my shoulders,’ he says of being named season-nine winner. By Kelley L. Carter Lee DeWyze Photo: Getty Images LOS ANGELES — Forgive Lee DeWyze for not being able to articulate what it was like to be named the winner of “American Idol” season nine . “Honestly,” he said backstage after the finale, “I can’t even explain it to you. There was confetti flying, there was fireworks. I don’t know where I am. I’m turning around. It just all happened so fast. It was amazing. It felt like there was a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. It feels really good. This is an amazing experience for me, especially since this has been a long process, and it’s a lot harder than I ever thought it would be.” Now that the show is over, DeWyze said he gets to go out on tour, get in a studio and do what he loves best. When he finally does get to work on his album, he said it will be a mix of sounds: alternative, rock and folk. He also addressed his final performances on Tuesday night, saying that even though he got critiqued harshly by the judges, he wouldn’t change much. “You’d think by the last week, you get it. They’re going to say what they’re going to say,” he said of the judges. “But as long as you go out there, you try your hardest … you can’t really walk away with regret. There’s been ups and downs. But that’s what makes this show so great. You have to be vulnerable. Sometimes it’s really awesome; sometimes it’s not. I’m happy with what I did, for sure. I think anybody can go back and nitpick, but I love the songs I sang. I went out there and sang them, and I’m happy I did.” As for departing judge Simon Cowell , DeWyze said, “I think that he’s honest and he says what he thinks, and I appreciate that about him.” DeWyze says this competition has changed him for good: “I’m going to hate Wednesdays for the rest of my life. I’m going to wake up on Wednesday and be like, ‘Ugh, it’s judgment day!’ ” Were you surprised that Lee came out on top? Let us know in the comments! Ian Benardo Crashes ‘American Idol’ Finale Stage

‘This is a Kanye moment,’ former ‘Idol’ hopeful declares during Simon Cowell farewell segment. By Josh Wigler Photo: Fox No matter who walks away with the coveted “American Idol” crown, somebody will exit disappointed. But neither Crystal Bowersox nor Lee DeWyze will leave the Nokia Theatre as the most surprised person in the auditorium. That’s a distinction that undoubtedly falls on Simon Cowell after onetime “Idol” hopeful Ian Benardo stormed the stage and, in his own words, pulled a Kanye West by ripping into the outgoing judge. At the end of an original musical number titled “Simon Said,” performed by comedian Dane Cook, a plethora of contestants formerly burned by the brutally honest Cowell flocked to the stage to join Cook’s derisive song. But the microphone was quickly hogged by Benardo, who was famously rejected by Cowell during a New York City “American Idol” audition in 2007. “Who cares? It’s all about Ian Benardo tonight!” the stage-crashing Benardo announced to a packed crowd. “I’m going to replace you, Simon Cowell! No one has a thing to say about you — just me. This is a Kanye moment, and I’m … ” Benardo’s rant was swiftly interrupted by another of Cowell’s many victims, Tatiana Del Toro, but the self-proclaimed Kanye imitator resumed his place in the spotlight with little trouble. “Nobody cares about you,” he told Del Toro. “It’s all about Ian Benardo, and I want to say I’m replacing you, Simon Cowell, because I’m more entertaining!” According to MTV News’ “Idol” expert, Jim Cantiello, who is backstage at the finale, the “Simon Said” performance was supposed to feature all the formerly burned contestants getting their retribution against Cowell. Unfortunately for them, Benardo’s tirade forced “Idol” producers to end the segment early. But with an hour remaining in the finale, it’s a sure bet that others close to the show will get their last licks in on Cowell before the night is through. What did you think of Ian’s stage crash? The Favorite Again: Crystal Bowersox Owns Lee DeWyze in American Idol Finals

She started season nine as the favorite, she faltered near the finish line, but Crystal Bowersox came through when it mattered most last night. Of the six total songs covered by her and Lee DeWyze, Crystal put on the top two performances. She left her comfort zone (and wore a dress!) with Janis Joplin’s “Black Velvet,” abandoning her guitar and showing off her range. But it was Bowersox’s take on Patty Griffin’s “Up to the Mountain” that should earn her the title. She delivered it with drama and feeling, as Randy Jackson rightly referred to the audition as “amazing” and Simon said it was “by far, the best performance and the song of the night.” As for Lee? He did perfectly well. We’ve already downloaded his rendition of “The Boxer” and we’re big fans of U2’s “Beautiful Day.” But DeWyze’s hoarse sound didn’t come across well on that single. Still, it wouldn’t shock us if viewers sided with Lee simply because his first song would be that contemporary, well-known U2 hit. This is how we’ve ranked the six songs sung on the night: Crystal Bowersox, Up to the Mountain Crystal Bowersox, Black Velvet Lee DeWyze, The Boxer Lee DeWyze , Beautiful Day Crystal Bowersox, Me and Bobby McGee Lee DeWyze, Everybody Hurts WHO DO YOU THINK SHOULD WIN?

‘Lost’ Fans Divided Over Series Finale

‘Lost’ fanatics in New York are split between ‘fantastic’ and ‘not satisfied.’ By Josh Wigler The cast of “Lost” Photo: ABC NEW YORK — If “Lost” fans thought “Across the Sea” was a controversial episode, they had no idea what they were in store for with “The End.” Sunday night’s series finale has proven one of the most divisive endings in recent television history, thanks to the episode’s final revelation: Every single character that ever passed away ultimately wound up in an afterlife of sorts known throughout the season as the sideways reality where, after reuniting with one another, they collectively moved onto another unexplained plane of existence. It was an ending that moved many fans to tears and one that left other viewers cursing at their sets. Certainly, “Lost” devotees are making their opinions known. To learn more, MTV News hit the streets of New York to hear a wide range of reactions to the “Lost” finale . “I thought the ‘Lost’ finale was fantastic,” said a clearly enthusiastic Mike Cayhurst,. “It was beautiful. It wrapped everything up for the characters. I think we can go back and watch the whole thing now in the way the writers always wanted us to.” Derek Hagerty, another happy camper, declared: “I thought the ‘Lost’ finale was a really good wrap-up to one of the best shows that’s been on TV in a while!” Not everyone was as optimistic, however, as Vincent Perissi put it: “I really wasn’t satisfied with it. I thought it left a lot of unanswered questions.” “It left as many questions as it probably answered,” Jenny Hank agreed. But for those who were disappointed by a lack of answers in the “Lost” finale, Megan Betts offered a possible explanation of her own: “I think that if you went on wanting to get answers to every question, you clearly haven’t been a fan of the show for the past six or seven years.” What did you think of the finale? ‘Lost’ Creators Promise More Answers After The Finale

Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse will answer lingering questions through a DVD bonus feature. By Josh Wigler Carlton Cuse Photo: MTV News That’s it, everybody. Show’s over. Nothing more to see. “Lost” is done. What? You’re not satisfied? You don’t feel that executive producers and writers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse supplied answers to every single one of your burning questions? There’s no doubt that there are still lingering issues, even after the two-and-a-half-hour monumental television event, and if you’re scratching your head wondering why certain plot points developed over the last six years were completely ignored on Sunday (May 23), you may be in luck. According to Cuse, more answers are on the way, even with the finale fully wrapped. “We did a little feature for the DVDs, and in sort of an entertaining way, we answered a few things that are not [answered] on the show,” Cuse told MTV News about the series finale. “It’s just a little side-light on some of the questions we didn’t get to in the main narrative.” That said, don’t expect Cuse or Lindelof to apologize for their storytelling decisions, as the “Lost” masterminds feel they answered everything they needed to. “We feel the story of ‘Lost’ is complete and the big questions [are answered],” Cuse said. “The character stories, those are the things that we really care about. That’s what really gets resolved in the finale.” That’s not to say that Cuse and Lindelof didn’t get emotional while letting go of “Lost.” “It was never not emotional to watch the end of the show,” Cuse confessed. “For us, we felt the emotion in the performances and in the way that Jack Bender directed it. When we went to the scoring stage and we heard Michael Giacchino put the music to the finale, it really gave us a sense of closure. It felt like that was what was closing the show.” For Lindelof’s part, ending “Lost” was a lot like buying somebody a birthday present several years in advance. “By the time their birthday rolls around, you’re sort of like, ‘Are they even going to like this anymore? Do they already have one?’ But that never happened with us,” the “Lost” co-creator revealed . “The closer we got [to the end], the more confident we became that it was the right ending. It was very satisfying for us.” How about you, “Lost” fans? Are you confident that Lindelof and Cuse went with the right ending? Are you satisfied? If nothing else, you have to take some comfort in knowing that more answers are on the way, right? Let us know what you’re going through in the comments section below.
