A young British man has been convicted of manslaughter after killing a gay teen by setting him on fire. Gay British Teen Dies After Being Set On Fire At Birthday Party Via HuffPo reports: The BBC reports that 20-year-old Jordan Sheard has been sentenced to three and a half years in jail for the death of Steven Simpson after pleading guilty to manslaughter charges. Simpson, 18, died one day after sustaining “significant burns” in June 2012, according to the report. Simpson had Asperger’s syndrome, a speech impairment and epilepsy, the Yorkshire Post noted. The teen had reportedly been dared to strip down to his underpants before being doused in tanning oil, after which Sheard set him aflame at the party. Other reports said that anti-gay messages, including “gay boy” and “I love d*ck,” had been found scrawled across Simpson’s body. Detective Sean Middleton described Simpson to the BBC as “a very caring and likeable young man” and a “generous spirit was taken advantage of and a single thoughtless act resulted in his death.” A number of local lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights advocates said they believed Sheard’s prison term to be too lenient, but prosecuting attorney Tim Warburton nonetheless told The Star that the sentence was “within the range of what would be expected had it been considered a hate crime,” and that it would not be appealed. “This was a cruel case of bullying based on Steven’s sexuality and disability,” Warburton is quoted as saying. “While we accept Jordan did not intend to kill Steven, his actions did lead to his death.” Meanwhile, Sheard’s attorney said his client had been “deeply and significantly affected by what he has done and the tragic consequences that ensued,” which describing Simpson’s death as a “stupid prank that went wrong in a bad way,” the Daily Mail noted. This is INSANE. 3 1/2 years for killing someone? And how do you drench someone in OIL, then set them on fire without the intent to kill them (or at least seriously maim them)? The friggin UK laws are as deranged and loopy as the US.

Reality Star Starts Chemotherapy To Fight Cancer Via TMZ reports: The star of VH1′s “Real Chance of Love” — who was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer — will begin intense chemo treatments this week in order to fight off the disease … TMZ has learned. A rep for Ahmad Givens — who goes by Real — tells TMZ that the reality star met with doctors Thursday at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. The docs advised him to begin oral chemotherapy — which is chemo taken in the form of a pill rather than an IV — ASAP. The entire process is likely to take at least two years. The rep tells us Real is raising money to cover the staggering medical bills — claiming his insurance will only foot about 40% of the costs. We’re told Real’s devastated by the news, but staying strong for his family. And wants to do everything in his power to get better. Miami Dolphins Player Arrested For Fighting Son Via USA Today reports: ormer Miami Dolphins wide receiver Mark Duper is facing charges he beat up his 17-year-old son during a series of fights at their Jacksonville home. Jacksonville police say the 54-year-old Duper, following his arrest Wednesday, spent the night in jail before posting a $5,000 bail and being released Thursday afternoon. Police say Duper attacked his son, Marcus, three times Wednesday night, twice knocking him out. Former Dolphins defensive end Hugh Green said he witnessed the brawls and that Marcus Duper started the fight and his father acted in self-defense. Duper caught 511 passes for 8,869 yards and 59 touchdowns in his 11-year career with Miami. Daddy don’t play dat! SMH!!!

Talk about the side eye … Houston Gets No Jail Time After DUI Arrest Via TMZ reports: “I Like That” singer Houston — who famously suffered an emotional breakdown in 2005 and gouged his own eye out with a fork — has had a change in fortune … because TMZ has learned, he just got off easy in his DUI case. TMZ broke the story … Houston was arrested last year near Malibu after cops say he was driving erratically in his SUV . When cops approached the vehicle, they claim it smelled of marijuana … and Houston looked drugged out … so they placed him under arrest. But last week, the DUI charge was reduced to a minor traffic infraction … and the $100 fine was suspended … meaning Houston pretty much got off scot-free. It’s unclear why the charge was reduced. As for Houston’s 2005 breakdown — the singer reportedly first attempted suicide by jumping out of a window while under the influence of PCP. His friends stopped him, but when they locked him in a first-floor room, Houston gouged his eye out with a plastic fork. DAYUM! This is so “forked” up! Women Shot By LAPD Only Get Money To Replace Truck VIa CNN reports: The two women shot and wounded by Los Angeles police during the manhunt for renegade ex-officer Christopher Dorner are “not doing well,” their attorney said Thursday at a news conference to announce a resolution to the loss of their bullet-riddled pickup truck. Margie Carranza, 47, and her mother, Emma Hernandez, 71, will receive $40,000 to replace the truck, Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich said. Carranza and Hernandez were shot as police searched for Dorner, a former police officer who was wanted for killing several people in early February. The two women were in a truck similar to the one authorities said Dorner was driving. “They’re not doing well,” attorney Glen Jonas said. “Margie is still very emotionally impacted by what happened. Emma is suffering as far as her injuries are concerned.” Hernandez was shot twice in the back, and Carranza suffered injuries from broken glass, CNN affiliate KTLA reported. Trutanich told reporters that now that the issues with the truck are settled, lawyers can turn their attention to the personal injury issues. The lawyers said they had to find a creative solution to get the women a new truck because of tax laws. Essentially the $40,000 is for the value of the truck, Jonas’ fees, compensation for the time the women have gone without a truck and other matters. Jonas waived his fees, which would have amounted to about $25,000, he said. “We wanted to get this issue resolved because it is draining a lot of energy,” Jonas said. Where is the justice???
