Evanescence Say Making New Album ‘Felt Like The First Time’

‘I had a little bit of an identity crisis,’ frontwoman Amy Lee says of band’s hiatus during ‘MTV First: Evanescence.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by James Montgomery Evanescence’s Amy Lee Photo: MTV News After a 20-month hiatus from performing, Evanescence returned to the stage in fine, fighting form Monday (August 8) for the exclusive “MTV First: Evanescence,” treating viewers to the first live performance of their comeback single, “What You Want,” followed by a lengthy no-holds-barred Q&A. The energy in the room and onstage was palpable. The live audience at Blackbird Studios — the recording house where the band laid down the majority of their forthcoming, self-titled album — held on and rocked out to each and every note, particularly frontwoman Amy Lee’s powerful vocals. In discussing their hiatus and eventual return as a band, Lee admitted that the “hard part” of making music and recording was something she felt was missing from her writing process. “The fact that we had to fight for it felt like the first time again,” Lee said of the band’s ups and downs in the years leading up to their latest work. “I had a little bit of an identity crisis,” Lee admitted of being in and associated with Evanescence since she was a teenager and into her adulthood. “[The success with] ‘Fallen’ happened really fast, and it was just go, go, go for a couple years, and we went right into writing and wrote the next record. By the time we finished touring with ‘The Open Door,’ I just needed to go, ‘Who am I as an adult?’ “But [in taking a step back I realized] this is what I do,” Lee said. “It’s not a character; this is really me. Realizing and getting back to it in a real, fuller way. ‘Oh, I’m in this because I love this and [the band] is a true, real part of me,’ not because it’s a character or something. It just makes me really, really happy to be here.” Stay tuned to MTVNews.com as we roll out more from our exclusive interview, including talk about tour details, “Twilight” and much more. Demi Lovato To Drop ‘Skyscraper’ Next Tuesday

Song will debut on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: Andrew H. Walker/ Getty Images Demi Lovato is ready to launch her comeback. On Tuesday the singer will drop her highly anticipated new single, “Skyscraper.” It will debut on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show , and the singer will also call in to chat with Seacrest about the track. This marks Lovato’s first big release of any kind since leaving treatment earlier this year. And while little is known about the song, Lovato told MTV News last summer that she was planning on making more R&B-sounding music. “I’m now just taking that next step and learning how to make my music more radio-friendly but also stay very artistic, and for me that’s R&B,” she said, revealing her dream of collaborating with Drake or Trey Songz . “I can put my vocal stylings on songs that are R&B and it showcases my vocals more than just singing really loud on a rock song.” In a Seventeen magazine blog post , she wrote, “My first single is really special to me — to me it symbolizes my journey from the person I was to the happy healthy person I am today, and the fact that people are able to rise above anything, despite the odds.” Lovato revealed on Twitter that she has shot a video for the new track, but no word yet on when it will drop. Just this week, she tweeted that she had recorded a duet for her forthcoming album, but she didn’t reveal with whom. In Seventeen she wrote that she wanted her new album to empower her fans. “With my new album, I’m hoping to provide inspiration for girls everywhere who are going through the same issues I’ve faced,” she said. “I think this will come through in a lot of the material.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Demi Lovato Related Artists Demi Lovato

Juelz Santana To Appear On ‘RapFix Live’ Wednesday

After missing the Diplomats’ ‘RapFix’ visit due to legal drama, Juelz will sit down with Sway on Wednesday at 4 p.m. on MTV.com. By Alvin Blanco Juelz Santana Photo: John Ricard/FilmMagic Harlem is coming to MTV News this Wednesday, when Juelz Santana visits “RapFix Live.” The flashy member of the reunited Diplomats was AWOL when Cam’ron, Jim Jones and Frekey Zekey sat down with Sway Calloway back in January, but Juelz will get a chance to discuss what he and the Dipset have cooking on the “RapFix” couch. Juelz has been laying relatively low lately but will have plenty to discuss. In February, the “Mic Check” rapper was arrested on marijuana and weapons charges stemming from a raid of his New Jersey studios by authorities. Dealing with the ramifications of those legal entanglements — rapper Hynief, a member of Juelz’s Skull Gang crew, was also arrested — is one of the reasons Juelz wasn’t present when the Diplomats were on “RapFix Live.” With his legal troubles in the rearview, Juelz will also be discussing his forthcoming new album, Born to Lose, Built to Win. The Diplomats also have a new project on the way, which will be released via Interscope Records , according to various members. MTV News will be sure to ask for updates on the status of I Can’t Feel My Face, Juelz’s long-in-the-works collaborative album with Lil Wayne, and his status with Def Jam Records. You can also expect Juelz, who last weekend hit Hot 97’s Summer Jam stage with Lloyd Banks and with the Diplomats , to a spit a hot 16 before concluding his visit. There is no telling what is going to go down on this week’s episode of “RapFix Live”! Visit MTV.com on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET to watch Juelz Santana on “RapFix Live”!

Eminem And Royce Da 5’9" Say Bad Meets Evil EP ‘Didn’t Feel Like Work’

‘We didn’t miss a step at all,’ Royce says on ‘RapFix Live’ of reuniting with Em. By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Sway Calloway Royce Da 5’9″ Photo: MTV News With Detroit rappers Eminem and Royce Da 5’9″ back on friendly terms, fans are being rewarded with their forthcoming EP Hell: The Sequel, due in stores June 14. Recording under the moniker Bad Meets Evil, the celebrated lyricists told MTV News’ “RapFix Live” that the fluid back-and-forth on the project’s lead single, “Fast Lane,” was due to their latent chemistry. “Me and Royce, ever since back in the day when we did records together, we always had kind of a chemistry,” Eminem told MTV News. “It was fairly easy to play off what each other was doing, and I think we can [think] a lot alike.” As the “Evil” in the Bad Meets Evil equation, Em added that the project was the result of mending the rift he had with Royce, which dates back to when the latter stopped working with Dr. Dre and was feuding with D12. “This record, the way it came together, it wasn’t anything that we planned to do,” Em said. “We didn’t get together and say, ‘Hey, man, let’s make a Bad Meets Evil record.’ It was more so along the lines of us making amends and repairing our issues that we had, and then one day, Bad [Royce] brought a song to me and wanted me to jump on it, and the way it ended up coming out, it was pretty easy to do. It didn’t take a lot of time. It was fun to do it. The way we knocked that record out kind of quickly … it just morphed into this.” Added Nickel Nine: “It didn’t feel like work. We just had fun doing it.” Some of the previous fruits of Royce and Em’s good times in the studio, such as “Bad Meets Evil” from Em’s The Slim Shady LP, occurred more than a decade ago. But fans need not worry about whether the Motor City tag team will be on the same page musically for the rest of Hell: The Sequel, which features production from DJ Khalil, Bangladesh and Denaun Porter. “It was pretty nostalgic, actually,” Royce said of the recording process. “It took me back to when we used to do stuff back in the day. We clicked like that. I wasn’t really surprised. We didn’t miss a step at all.” Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With Eminem And Royce Da 5’9″ Related Artists Eminem Royce Da 5’9″

T-Pain “You Copying Me” [NEW MUSIC]

Go here to see the original:

T-Pain ‘s debut album was called Rapper Ternt Sanga .  Now T-Pain is flipping it for a leaked track from his forthcoming mixtape Prevolver . T-Pain revisits his rapping side on “You Copying Me” which addresses his journey from being the one hated on in his hometown to the one that everyone seems to be mimicking. The track’s uptempo nature feels a little out of place in 2011 hip-hop, where everyone seems to want to rap over tracks that are slower than a sprinting turtle. Honestly, we can’t wait for Lil’ Kim to hear this and then release yet another Nicki Minaj diss… You know it’s probably gonna happen… T-Pain’s 30-track Prevolver mixtape will be released when he reaches 500,000 followers on Twitter today!  Download it at NappyBoyOnline.com . His fourth album, RevolveR , will be out soon! RELATED: T-Pain Rocks Young Money Chain In New Snoop Dogg “Boom” Music Video RELATED: Snoop Dogg & T-Pain “Boom” [NEW MUSIC]

Jennifer Lopez Poses With Lil Wayne On ‘I’m Into You’ Video Set

New photos show the pair all dressed in black and mugging for the camera on set. By Jocelyn Vena Jennifer Lopez and Lil Wayne Photo: Gilly Iyer What happens when Jennifer Lopez and Lil Wayne shoot a video together? Well, according to two new stills from the “I’m Into You” video set, the two take it very seriously and dress all in black. In one photo, J.Lo is seen standing in a very little black dress and thigh-high boots, looking fiercely into the camera. Wayne is standing next to her, also in all black, checking the time on his watch. In another shot, the pair stands back to back, in the same outfits, both looking like they are deep in thought. The video is set to drop on May 2, a day before J.Lo’s album Love? hits the street. Previous photos from the video set show the “American Idol” judge in a much more exotic locale at Chichen Itza in Mexico. At Chichen Itza, the singer was spotted sitting atop the steps of the historic pyramid, glaring seductively, with her legs crossed, as a camera crew hovers below her. She was wearing a long snake-print sundress with matching bracelets and headband. Another on-set photo shows Lopez in a metallic two-piece, showing her midriff and legs. “I’m Into You” is the second single off her forthcoming album. She climbed to the top of the charts with the first single, the RedOne-produced, Pitbull-assisted dance song “On the Floor.” When she’s not busy being a dance diva, Lopez is judging talent on “Idol,” shopping a new reality show and gearing up to perform at the Billboard Music Awards. Kendrick Lamar And Black Hippy Go Hard For The New West

Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q and Kendrick tell MTV News in spite of shine from Dr. Dre, they’re still out to prove themselves. By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Steven Roberts Black Hippy Photo: MTV News When covering the New West , the name Kendrick Lamar will inevitably pop up. The Compton rapper has managed to convert mixtape and hip-hop blog adulation into a co-sign from Dr. Dre, who’ll be contributing to his forthcoming Section .80 album. Despite his high-profile admirer, Kendrick remains focused on his grassroots grind and is signed to independent label Top Dawg Entertainment. The 23-year-old and his fellow TDE labelmates &#8212 Jay Rock, Ab-Soul and Schoolboy Q, all high-caliber hip-hop prospects in their own right — joined forces and formed Black Hippy. The talented rap quartet share a love for deft wordplay over thumping beats (see “Zip That Chop That” and “Rolling Stone”), making them one of L.A. hip-hop’s most highly anticipated crews. More amazing is that most of their music is created in a tiny studio. “Sometimes it gets a little difficult because there’s four or five of us, so we somehow manage to squeeze in enough time to get our work done as well as the Black Hippy material,” Ab-Soul explained to MTV News. Thankfully, cramped quarters haven’t stopped them from creating music that they continue to get out to more and more fans as their popularity grows. “It feels real good to see our music touch everybody, not just my color, his color, all colors of people and different cultures,” said Jay Rock, a former Warner Bros. Records artist. “For all of those people to come together and watch us do our thing and show us love, that [gives] us the energy to do what we do.” Kendrick is set to appear on the good Dr.’s Detox and also has a joint project in the works with Roc Nation rapper J.Cole. Jay-Z’s first signing will be producing 90 percent of the as-yet-untitled album, according to Kendrick, who specified that it won’t be just a mixtape. But props from Dr. Dre, J. Cole and others, isn’t going to stop Kendrick and his Black Hippy family from working even harder to build on the foundation they’ve already created. “A lot of people will be like, ‘You good now, Dre messing with you,’ ” Kendrick said. “No, we’re not good now. We’ve got to go 10 times harder. Just because that man is further in his career doesn’t mean he could say one word and further my career right that instant. I’ve got to have the music to back it up and prove myself still.” Stick with us all week as MTV News turns the spotlight on the New West, the next wave of hip-hop acts helping restore faith in the L.A. rap scene. From groups like Odd Future to rising MCs like Dom Kennedy, we’ll bring you up close and personal to these artists as they carve their own lanes in the post-gangsta rap era. Keep it locked here for the next week for more on the West Coast up-and-comers! Related Videos The New West: An In-Depth Look At L.A. Hip-Hop
