The Other Guys Movie Premiere: Red Carpet Photos

With the clear exception of Inception , it’s been the summer of comedies. Few dramas have made a dent in the box office, while more light-hearted films such as Toy Story 3 , Despicable Me and Dinner with Schmucks have fared very well. That trend will likely continue this weekend, as The Other Guys hits theaters nationwide. It features Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell as mismatched police partners – which is really all you need to know, isn’t it? The cast came out last night for the movie’s Hollywood premiere, as Wahlberg and Ferrell pose below with co-star Eva Mendes. Yes, she’s also in the flick, making it humorous and also very, very attractive…

Warehouse 13’s Relic Roundup: What Artifacts Sprang from SyFy’s Ultimate Crossover?

Barring the occasional Disney Channel special (looking at you, Suite Life of Zack and Cody ), a legitimate crossover not between a show and its spinoff is a rare, mystical thing. Which is perhaps why, amid the Babel Stones, the makeshift lightsabers and the fire-breathing mechanical spiders, the first installment of the Warehouse 13-Eureka crossover felt so right.

Pete Wentz: Fans ‘May Recognize’ Some Black Cards Bandmates

While the bassist won’t reveal full lineup yet, he tells MTV News who isn’t in the band. By James Montgomery Pete Wentz Photo: Bryan Bedder/Getty Images for Digitas Pete Wentz will be the first one to tell you that no matter what he does from here on out, he’ll always be known as “the dude from Fall Out Boy.” So as he prepares to launch his first post-FOB project — a group he’s calling Black Cards — he’s not shying away from talking about his (former?) band, as well. He knows the comparisons between the two are inevitable. That said, those comparisons are also pretty unfounded. Much like the music being made by fellow FOBs Patrick Stump, Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley these days, Wentz’s Black Cards is about as far removed from Fall Out Boy as you can get. And yet, he must still answer the questions, about just what his new endeavors (and the endeavors of his bandmates) mean for the future of the band. “We’ve always been friends, so I think everyone is interested in supporting each other’s projects,” Wentz wrote in an email to MTV News. “I really miss touring and seeing the guys everyday onstage. At the same time, I feel like I want to keep traveling and creating new ideas. I think what everyone is doing now will be important to the legacy of Fall Out Boy.” And while words like “legacy” will no doubt make the Fall Out fanatics a little nervous, Wentz knows that — for the time being, at least — he’s got to move forward, meaning he’s primarily focused on assembling his Black Cards band. Last week, he revealed to Rolling Stone the identity of his mysterious frontwoman: Her name is Bebe Rexha. And on Tuesday (July 20), he decided to dispel some rumors about who isn’t in the group, namely former Chiodos frontman Craig Owens, who’s signed to Wentz’s Decaydance label, or Panic! at the Disco’s Brendon Urie. “I can confirm [that] neither Craig& #8212; who has amazing new songs and a new record soon — or Brendon — who is working on Panic! in between beating the sh– out of me at ping-pong — are in the group,” Wentz wrote. “The other guys, some people may recognize, but no one who people will be like, ‘Oh My God, they got that guy???’ As soon as we figure out everyone’s role, we’ll announce them. Expect some news in the next week or so.” So, it looks like we’ll just have to wait for more information. Like we said, he’s got to keep moving forward. Are you excited to hear new music from Pete’s Black Cards band? Tell us in the comments!

Black Rob Calls Post-Prison Material ‘A Testament’ To His Longevity

‘I can come home and do it again,’ the onetime Bad Boy MC tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Black Rob Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Black Rob makes no excuses. He knows his career as an MC could have been more successful than it has been, but when asked where the blame should fall, he points the finger at the man in the mirror. Rob was forced to take a four-year hiatus from the rap game when he went to prison in 2006 on grand larceny charges. Back in 2004, Black Rob stole some jewelry from a fellow guest at the On the Avenue Hotel in Manhattan, and he was caught on tape. Rob says it was a move he regretted almost as soon as he made it. As far as his decade-plus stint on Diddy’s Bad Boy records, Rob (real name Robert Ross) admitted his attention wasn’t where it was supposed to be. He’s only delivered two albums, 1999’s critically acclaimed Life Story — which spawned the classic “Whoa!” — and 2005’s The Black Rob Report. “I’mma tell you like this,” Rob told Mixtape Daily . “I’m blaming myself for that. I wasn’t focused. I was running around wild-style. I’m out of town. I’m [telling my label]: ‘I’m never coming back to New York.’ I didn’t have the work ethic that I have right now. If I had the work ethic that I have right now, I’d probably be 10 albums deep. But things happen. We not gonna cry over it. One thing I do know is that the two albums I did put out, they solidified my name and a brand. Therefore, I can come home and do it again. Those two albums left the door wide-open. Like, ‘B.R. is nasty. He can come right back.’ Not too many people can do what I’m doing right now. Come back home after doing four joints, five joints and pop off again,” the rapper said, referring to his time behind bars. “This is a testament right now.” Rob was released from prison in May and he’s already recorded more than 25 songs. The Spanish Harlem native says he does three tracks a day now. His new street CD is dropping within the next couple of weeks. “We got the mixtape Game Tested, Street Approved,” he said. “We gonna do five volumes of that. Five is always power in [principles of] mathematics. We gonna do five of those and crush ’em with that. Then we got the album, probably not this year, but the beginning of next year, second quarter or something. Name of the album is Losing’s Not an Option. This is what we do. So this is the big words for the day: ‘Losing’s not an option.’ ” Blacko has already released several songs to the Net and the street in advance of the mixtape. ” ‘Ventilation,’ basically it speaks for itself,” Rob said. “I’m venting. I said some things on there. People might feel some kind of way or put the shoe on their foot. But at this point, we don’t care who feels some kind of way. It’s talking about cats in the street, as well as cats in the industry. ‘New York,’ that joint is an old classic. I did that record when I was on my way to prison. It was fitting for me to do a type of record like that because when you in prison, all you think about is New York. ‘I’m going in, I’mma do this time and come home.’ ‘Shake a Leg’ is just me on my B.S. Showing rhyme skills and talking about real stuff as usual.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc .

Green Day Say ‘Rock Band’ Makes Them ‘Look Like Superheroes’

The band has some wacky ideas for what else game’s developers can do with their avatars. By James Montgomery “Green Day: Rock Band” One of — OK, probably the — biggest perk in getting your own video game is actually being in the game itself. At least that’s what the guys in Green Day told us when we asked them about the just-released “Green Day: Rock Band.” It seems that, much like James Cameron, the band was avatar crazy. “We look like superheroes!” frontman Billie Joe Armstong laughed. “You know, it’d be interesting if they made the ‘Rock Band’ version of us getting out of bed in the morning, you know, like, scratching yourself and then making coffee.” “They were pretty gracious. They didn’t give me nearly as many pimples as I had when I was younger,” bassist Mike Dirnt added of the game’s developers. “They managed to somehow make me look a little better than I did when I was younger [and] now too.” And while “Rock Band” may make Armstong, Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool look even better than they normally do (no offense intended) and goes to great length to capture their likenesses at various stages in their career — from scowling, scatological-minded kids to well-worn, worldly vets — the guys in Green Day wonder why the developers didn’t take the avatar technology one step further. The way they see it, the possibilities are endless. “They’ve got to come up with like, a beer bottle, for [when] you’ll play the guitar, and then you reach for a drink and then, you can get points right there … it’s like, the whole graphic will show up, you know?” Armstrong smiled. “A lit cigarette at the top of the guitar, [smoke it] put it back. [There’s] no end to the possibilities.” And if the avatar situation can be that advanced, why stop there? “There could be interviews in the game too. Like, a concept where you have a journalist that comes up with the microphone and [the player] will have a microphone and have to match the interview,” Armstrong said. “You know, get it right, you get points off that. It’s a great idea — you guys, are you writing this down?” “They can call it ‘Embedded Journalist 2!’ ” Dirnt laughed. Green Day Got Proudly ‘Pwned’ At Their Own ‘Rock Band’

‘I couldn’t even finish the song,’ Tre Cool laughs to MTV News. By James Montgomery Green Day Photo: MTV News Through all the “Green Day: Rock Band”-related stories about dye jobs and song selections we’ve written this week, there remains one topic we haven’t explored yet. And, to be honest, it’s a fairly pertinent one: Are the guys in Green Day actually good at playing their game? You would think the answer would be yes, considering they wrote the songs and all. But, oddly, you’d be wrong. “Well I did an interactive thing with some random ‘Rock Band’ players all throughout the world, and I got my ass kicked really bad,” drummer Tre Cool laughed. “I couldn’t even finish the song.” “Tre got pwned,” bassist Mike Dirnt laughed. “I did! I got pwned!” Cool shrugged. “Pwned like a newb.” So while they might not be great at the game, at least the guys in Green Day are all pros when it comes to gamer lingo. But what, exactly, was it about the game that they found so difficult? “For me, it’s really hard. I think I’d rather play the guitar on the game. The drums are really hard,” Cool said. “But what’s cool about the kit that you get is, you can put it on free-play mode and the practice mode, and you’ve got an electric drum set. So it’s kind of cool.” “That’s actually really cool,” Dirnt added. And the electric drum set has an added feature, one “Rock Band” developers probably never even dreamed of: the power to annoy. “You can jam around in your living room and piss off the neighbors,” Cool smiled. “Like I care about pissing off the neighbors.” MTV News is celebrating the release of “Green Day: Rock Band” with a week of special coverage. Scarlett Johansson, Charlize Theron Lead Hotties at Guys Choice Awards

MTV wasn’t the only network to host a hilarious, irreverent awards show this weekend. Spike TV taped the Guys Choice Awards on Saturday night, an event that will air on June 20. Featuring awards such as the Holy Grail of Hot (Jessica Biel!), the Jean-Claude Gahd Dam (Scarlett Johansson!) and the Decade of Hotness (Charlize Theron!), this show drew beauties from movies to music to television, many of them in incredibly short skirts. To wit: Johansson, of course, jetted over to the MTV event and made out with Sandra Bullock in one of the best moments from last night. Green Day Talk Getting Their Own ‘Rock Band’

‘I think it might have inspired people to get real guitars and real drums,’ Billie Joe Armstrong says of the video game’s appeal. By James Montgomery Green Day might not be the first band that comes to mind when you think “video games” (although in their early years, they did have a Sega Genesis on their “Book Mobile” tour bus). So with the release of the new, ultra-deluxe “Green Day: Rock Band” right around the corner, we asked the guys just why they decided to partner up with MTV Games for the project. And, as is the case with many things involving the band, the answer was a combination of both high-minded idealism, and, well, low-brow, decidedly boozy realism. “When I’ve seen ‘Rock Band,’ what I’ve noticed is that there’s a lot of old songs and different kinds of songs by different bands that kids are picking up on,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong explained. “And that’s what I thought was so cool about it … [‘Rock Band’ is] its own radio station in a way. But, you know, you’re sort of involved with it. And though you’re playing plastic guitars, I think it might even have inspired some people to actually go out and, you know, get real guitars and real drums and start to figure it out on their own, you know?” “The first time I ever saw ‘Rock Band,’ uh, it was like in a pub in California and they had a TV and they had the game set up in a little corner,” drummer Tr

Will Ferrell And Mark Wahlberg Get Their GTL On For MTV Movie Awards

‘Hitting the gym, getting tanned, doing some laundry,’ the ‘Other Guys’ co-stars say of their pre-show routine. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Josh Horowitz, Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell Photo: MTV News You never know what you’re going to get when you put Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg in front of a camera. Well, that’s not entirely true. You know it’s going to be R-rated, generally insane and utterly hilarious. And therein lies the charming genius of these two, who star in this summer’s action/comedy “The Other Guys.” Ferrell and Wahlberg were on hand Thursday afternoon (June 3) at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California, for a rehearsal of their top-secret shenanigans at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards . Afterward, they stopped by for a chat with MTV News, and things got weird fast. To begin, Wahlberg announced his presence with a furious series of curses that was both out-of-nowhere and infectious, as Ferrell quickly joined in the barrage of swears far too child-unfriendly to reprint here. The tone for the rest of the interview was set. Talk (you might call it smack talk, in fact) ranged from their favorite “Jersey Shore” castmembers to their irrepressible love of Zac Efron. Don’t ask us — we’re as confused as anyone. But damn, we’re pretty amused too. Take their training regime to prepare for their Movie Awards appearance: “Hitting the gym, getting tanned, doing some laundry,” Wahlberg said. “I just gave Mark a ride home in my helicopter,” Ferrell added. “We do 15 rounds on the heavy bag and then HGH.” “And then we watch Zac Efron,” Wahlberg finished. Whatever you guys say. Lucky for both of them, Efron will be in the house at Sunday night’s show. He’ll be one of the night’s presenters, along with Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Jessica Biel, Steve Carell, Vanessa Hudgens, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Adam Sandler and Chris Rock. Fan voting is currently under way at MovieAwards.MTV.com and will stay open through Saturday. Voting for Best Movie, however, will stay open throughout the awards show itself, which means you’ll have a chance to affect the night’s biggest prize until the very last minute. Don’t miss the live red-carpet coverage, exclusive movie clips and fist-pumping action on MTV News’ “Jersey Shore Blow-Out at the MTV Movie Awards,” airing live from Los Angeles this Sunday, June 6, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Then stay tuned for the 2010 MTV Movie Awards at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Related Videos Get Ready For The 2010 MTV Movie Awards!
