I see Lady Gaga, I see Leno, but my mind isn’t comprehending that something is happening right now. I just heard “disenfranchised” – is she on a tangent about Civil Rights Era voting districts? Wait, “Sometimes it’s just wonderful to celebrate life and… Broadcasting platform : DailyMotion Source : VH1’s Today In Music Discovery Date : 15/02/2011 08:53 Number of articles : 2

Cee Lo, Gwyneth Paltrow, Muppets Light Up Grammy Stage

Lady Killer crooner teams with puppets and Oscar-winner for psychedelic performance. By Mawuse Ziegbe Cee Lo performs during the 53rd annual Grammy Awards Photo: The Recording Academy/CBS We knew that Cee Lo’s Grammy performance would be “weird and cool,” and the throwback MC delivered a dollop of campy whimsy to his stage takeover by teaming up with a slew of colorful, amped-up Muppets and inviting Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow for the ride. Fresh from a Grammy win earlier in the night for Best Urban/ Alternative Performance, the Lady Killer crooner held court on a space-age set populated with alien-like Muppets and cartoony rockets sporting “Cee Lo” on the sides. Groovy extraterrestrial puppets, including a creature with a detached brain and a drummer with unruly rods snaking from its head, bopped along in the background as Cee Lo worked a grand piano for “Forget You” in an extravagant jumpsuit replete with red, blue and yellow feathers and a glittery headpiece recalling Elton John in his psychedelic heyday. (Check out photos of Cee-Lo and all the other Grammy performances from this year’s show.) Rocking a much more subdued catsuit (also recalling the disco era with its plunging neckline), Gwyneth Paltrow ascended down the stairs for the second verse, marking the first time the pair have publicly performed Cee Lo’s smash — Paltrow revamped it on “Glee” — together. The Oscar-winning actress joined in the loopy fun, bellowing, “I really hate your hate your ass right now” at the Goodie Mob alum. Then the star swung onto the piano for the bridge and she and Cee Lo belted the whiny “Why!” cries. The Gnarls Barkley frontman stood up and Paltrow stood on the piano as the pair and their puppet friends rode out the rest of the song. MTV News got some inside information about the performance just days before Cee Lo, Paltrow and their puppet posse worked the stage. Jim Henson Company CEO Brian Henson said the set was inspired by the marionette mob’s recent theater turn. “We have a live theater show in New York called ‘Stuffed and Unstrung,’ and we’ve taken a bunch of the characters from that cast and made them into a band and backup singers for Cee Lo,” Henson said of the fuzzy puppets from the made-for-grown-ups improv show. “He’ll be backed by puppets who will make up a very weird and cool band.” Henson said the idea to sing with the puppets came from Cee Lo, who approached the Henson Company with a concept of what he wanted to do. “We had never worked with him before, and he’s just a fabulous guy,” Henson said. “I think he’s a lifelong fan of the Muppets, and he had a pretty good idea of what he wanted.” What did you think of Cee Lo’s Grammy performance? 5 Better Prince Songs Than ‘Kiss’ for Gwyneth Paltrow and Glee to Cover

Party over, oops, out of time: Glee is again recruiting Gwyneth Paltrow’s patrician pizazz for an upcoming episode where she’ll cover Prince’s “Kiss” with Matthew Morrison. This proves that the producers of Glee spend eight-to-nine seconds a week thinking of smart song choices. Does Ryan Murphy stick only to decade-topping Billboard hits? I was pleasantly surprised by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Heads Will Roll” on Sunday, but otherwise, his selections are as obvious as Rachel Berry’s narcissism. Prince’s catalog provides plenty of opportunity for awesome duets — if only he considered the following five gems for air.

Dina Lohan Rails Against Glee Again

If you watched last night’s Glee , you knew as soon as Katie Couric’s hilarious cameo was over that Dina Lohan would be whining by close of business Monday. Like clockwork, a “friend” of Dina’s (apparently, she has one) says she is ” hurt and shocked ” by the show’s latest jab – this time at Lindsay’s mom directly. Glee, which took shots at Lindsay earlier this season via Gwyneth Paltrow’s guest character, and its “constant teasing” have downright offended Dina now. If you don’t watch Glee, here’s the long and short of it: Katie (as herself) interviewed Jane Lynch’s Sue Sylvester after she had been named Loser of the Year. As Katie recounted all the losers Sue bested out for the title, Dina Lohan’s name was among them. She is pissed. Her ex, Michael Lohan, also begged to differ. In Michael’s case, though, he thinks Glee just didn’t go far enough. Michael told sources that Dina “deserves a lot worse of a title after all she has done to destroy the relationships with my kids and entire family.” How kind. He calls the people Dina surrounds herself with “the epitome of losers.” You’d think with Lindsay’s pending felony charge , they’d focus on … oh wait, no you wouldn’t. All these people do is whine about their pathetic lives instead of taking responsibility or establishing themselves as upstanding citizens through action. Way to go, losers! Watch the clip after the jump: We’re looking for a higher quality version of the clip, but turn the volume up to hear this tremendous comedic exchange from Sunday’s episode … Glee With Katie Couric

Cake, Cage The Elephant Take Top Spots On Billboard

Cake debut at #1, but with lowest sales in SoundScan era. By Gil Kaufman Cake’s John McCrea Photo: Noel Vasquez/ Getty Images Droll Sacramento, California, rockers Cake might never again have the chance to snatch away one of the umpteen records held by platinum darling Taylor Swift . But next week, the group can say they bested Swift, even if it is, in this case, a somewhat dubious distinction. The good news is that Cake’s Showroom of Compassion marks the band’s first #1 debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart and their first album to chart in the top 10. The bad news is that their total sales of 44,000 also mark the poorest-selling #1 debut figures for a new album in the modern SoundScan era. (Swift had set the new standard last week, when her Speak Now moved just 52,000 copies .) Another indie band took advantage of the slow new-release traffic to notch a career high. According to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, Cage the Elephant’s Thank You, Happy Birthday will come in at #2 on sales of 39,000, an impressive feat for the hard-touring band’s second major-label album. The only other new face in the top 10 is country act Steel Magnolia , whose self-titled effort lands at #7 (28,000). The rest of the top 10: Swift, Speak Now (#3, 35,000), Bruno Mars , Doo-Wops & Hooligans (#4, 32,000), Nicki Minaj , Pink Friday (#5, 32,000), the “Country Strong” soundtrack (#6, 29,000), Rihanna , Loud (#8, 28,000), Mumford & Sons , Sigh No More (#9, 26,000) and Kanye West , My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (#10, 25,000). Otherwise, it’s mostly single- and double-digit dips for the majority of the albums in the top 50, with just a few exceptions, including Cage the Elephant, whose self-titled debut surges back onto the charts at #59 as sales spiked by 113 percent to more than nearly 7,000. Over on the iTunes singles chart, Britney Spears sprints to the top with “Hold It Against Me,” which pushes Mars’ “Grenade” down to #2, followed by Enrique Iglesias ‘ randy “Tonight,” Katy Perry ‘s “Firework,” Wiz Khalifa ‘s “Black and Yellow,” Avril Lavigne ‘s “What the Hell,” the Black Eyed Peas ‘ “The Time (Dirty Bit),” Ke$ha ‘s “We R Who We R,” Lil Wayne ‘s “6 Foot 7 Foot” and Kanye West and Jay Z ‘s “H.A.M.” Gwyneth Paltrow’s well-received “Saturday Night Live” hosting gig surely helped the second collection of “Country Strong” songs hit #1 on the iTunes albums chart (the company does not release specific sales data). Right behind are Mumford & Sons, Cage the Elephant, the first “Country Strong” disc, Cake, the Black Keys ‘ Brothers , Christian act Lecrae ‘s Rehab: The Overdose, Kanye West, Daft Punk ‘s “Tron: Legacy” soundtrack and Mars’ debut album. It should be another modest week next time around, with new releases from the Decemberists , the Script , James Blunt and Social Distortion , as well as the latest Kidz Bop collection. ‘Glee’ Justin Bieber Episode Needs ‘The Hairdo,’ Darren Criss Says

On Golden Globes red carpet, actor also pleads for Gwyneth Paltrow’s character to teach at his Dalton Academy. By Aly Semigran, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Darren Criss Photo: Steve Granitz/ WireImage It was a good night for “Glee” at the Golden Globes, to say the least. If Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch’s wins (not to mention the show walking away with the award for Best Television Series- Comedy or Musical for the second straight year ) weren’t enough to satisfy fans, new addition Darren Criss had plenty of news to have them Gleeking out. The actor — who made Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” even more popular than the original during his first season — talked about Justin Bieber and Gwyneth Paltrow with our very own Josh Horowitz. The lively star, who donned a pair of hot-pink sunglasses, joked that he wanted to rock fellow Globes attendee and presenter Justin Bieber in his arms. In addition to finding out that the tween star was nearby, he also heard the news (thanks to co-star Amber Riley telling MTV News) that the “Glee” cast would be singing not one, but two Justin Bieber songs. The star (who admitted he had previously heard word about the possibility of this happening) also said he wasn’t sure if he would be one of the castmembers belting out the Biebs’ hits. “If I do [sing them], I hope they tell me soon which one!” he said. “It should be fun,” Criss said about the upcoming covers, adding, “I just hope they do the hairdo!” But Bieber’s famed coif isn’t the only thing he hopes to see in the second half of the season, which returns in February. While he and guest star Gwyneth Paltrow both starred in the episode “The Substitute,” his character, Blaine, had no onscreen time with her Holly Holliday. “I feel like I’m on my own spin-off: ‘Dalton,’ ” Criss joked, referring to Dalton Academy, where his character attends school. “So I never get to meet or spend time with a lot of the guest stars.” While it’s been reported that Paltrow’s substitute teacher will return to teach sex education at McKinley High School and will start up a relationship with Matthew Morrison’s Mr. Schuester, Criss had another story idea for the Oscar-winner. “Maybe she could be a sub at Dalton! That would be awesome,” he suggested before confessing, “I’m in love with Gwyneth. I would love to meet her.” We’ve got the Golden Globes covered! Lea Michele ‘Excited’ For Gwyneth Paltrow’s ‘Glee’ Return

Starlet also reveals to MTV News on Golden Globes red carpet that ‘the boys’ will belt the Bieber tunes on upcoming episode. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lea Michele Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images Gwyneth Paltrow’s “Glee” guest spot was so memorable that the Oscar-winning “Country Strong” star will be heading back to the show for a second go-around. This time, she and “Glee” faculty heartthrob Matthew Morrison will be heating things up with a romantic story line. Aside from the dating arc with Mr. Schuester, details about how Paltrow will once again shake things up as sassy substitute Holly Holliday remain scant — even “Glee” star Lea Michele is in the dark about her possible scenes with the superstar actress. When MTV News caught up with the singer/actress on the Golden Globes red carpet on Sunday (January 16), she admitted that she didn’t know much about Paltrow’s return but maintained, “I’m excited. Anything with Gwyneth is great.” In addition to Paltrow, superstar Justin Bieber is set to be incorporated into the hit show soon, as the show is slated to take on some of the pop star’s peppy catalog. But when it comes to the Biebs, Michele divulged that she won’t be belting any of the teen idol’s tunes, and said everything will be left up to the “Glee” guys. “I’m not [singing Justin Bieber], but the boys are,” Michele dished. While Michele was short on “Glee” details, show co-creator Ryan Murphy recently revealed how Bieber would fit into in the hit series, batting away rumors that an all-Bieber episode was in the works. “Those [tributes] are reserved for artists with big catalogs,” Murphy explained of why they won’t dedicate an entire episode to the teen sensation’s smashes. “Bieber comes up in episode 13 as a small plot point. Sam [Chord Overstreet] sings a JB song to win Quinn’s [Dianna Agron] approval. Are you excited to catch Justin Bieber’s music and Gwyneth Paltrow’s return on “Glee”? Let us know in the comments! Gwyneth Paltrow Sings With Cee Lo, Covers Taylor Swift On ‘SNL’

Pee Wee Herman and Anderson Cooper turn up in a digital short about boozy debauchery. By Mawuse Ziegbe Cee Lo, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jason Sudeikis perform on “SNL” Jan. 15 Photo: NBC When Cee Lo promised that he and Gwyneth Paltrow would be cranking out some musical moments when they both turned up on “Saturday Night Live,” he wasn’t playing around. The Lady Killer singer hit the stage twice, but he also showed off his comedic chops by popping up alongside Gwyneth in three different sketches. The “Closet Freak” singer wasted no time getting on with the funny business, by first turning up in Paltrow’s opening monologue. After the “Country Strong” star pumped up her country-music knowledge, including hits by the “lady with the hair and the big boobs,” Jason Sudeikis appeared as white-haired legend Kenny Rogers for his classic duet with “the boob lady” — also known as Dolly Parton — “Islands in the Stream.” After Paltrow flubbed the lyrics, Cee Lo sauntered onstage to join the duo, who all belted the lines perfectly. Although they didn’t share the mic, Paltrow and Cee Lo also showed up in a sketch about a bar mitzvah with tons of A-list performers rocking Jewish-friendly versions of their hits. Cee Lo, of course, played himself, rocking a full-length fur and swapping out “Forget You” for “Hebrew.” Paltrow played up her country connection by appearing as Taylor Swift and putting a Jewish twist on “You Belong With Me” with lyrics about Mel Brooks and shopping at Loehmann’s. Paltrow also hooked Cee Lo up with an extra-special introduction to his first performance, appearing in a skit as a record executive grappling with how to market the Gnarls Barkley vocalist’s potty-mouth single. Although, in this office, “forget” is a bad word, and Paltrow’s co-workers gasp when she spews things like, “Are you forgetting kidding me?” When Cee Lo strolls in, he greets everyone with “What’s up, motherforgetters?” and adds that he’s “feeling good, my Nintendos.” After some back-and-forth about censoring Cee Lo’s hit, Paltrow gets on the phone with the FCC, which declares the former Goodie Mob MC can say “forget you” on television — which segues right into the star’s first song. Backed by band of foxy musicians in clingy magenta minidresses and go-go boots, Cee Lo rocked the retro jam in front of a huge set piece swirled with Technicolor hues. Silhouettes of back-up dancers also grooved behind the star as he belted “I love you!” with abandon, looking slick in a black sequined shirt and gold chain. While Paltrow gave Cee Lo a standard “SNL” introduction for his second song, the singer souped up the look of the stage with scenes of a glittery skyline and flashy New York City streets splashed onto the set piece. With his groovy-looking band in tow, the crooner ripped through “Bright Lights, Bigger City,” swapping out the gold chain for a silver one and finishing up the performance with a raspy, rock-star-esque “Ow!” Paltrow popped up in other sketches as a comely cop who prompts an awkward reaction from Jay Pharoah as Will Smith on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” a leggy Heidi Klum auditioning to be a replacement host for CNN’s “Parker Spitzer” and a Spanish-speaking SportsCenter anchor who peppers her rapid-fire commentary with spot-on English pronunciations. In addition to Paltrow, another musical screen star made a special “SNL appearance: kooky personality Pee Wee Herman, played by Paul Reubens . In the skit, Andy Samberg runs into Reubens’ bow-tie-rocking alter ego at a bar, and they both end up knocking back tons of shots and getting into all types of booze-powered debauchery. Pee Wee even busted out his signature jerky, pelvic thrust before trying not to vomit all over the patrons. The rowdiness doesn’t stop there, as Samberg and Herman drunkenly wander in to the street and Pee Wee ends up smashing a chair on both a cop and CNN’s Anderson Cooper. The duo stumble home to an intervention staged by the pair’s friends, including Pee Wee’s puppet pals Chairry, Pterri and Conky. After Samberg and Herman agree to get their act together, everyone, including a bandaged Cooper, celebrates their new commitment to behaving properly with — what else? — a round of shots.
