‘Glee’ Stars Stayed Up All Night For ‘Thriller’ Cover

‘It was probably one of the most physical numbers that we’ve ever done,’ Cory Monteith says. By James Dinh “Glee” cast films their “Thriller” performance Photo: Ramey Photo When “Glee” returns from hiatus in the high-profile post-Super Bowl slot, it’s returning in a big way, covering Michael Jackson ‘s “Thriller.” On Tuesday, the cast spoke to “Access Hollywood” about re-making the iconic tune, which will reportedly be mashed up with another yet-to-be-revealed hit. “It was a huge production. We we’re shooting that until 6:30 in the morning,” Cory Monteith told “AH” at the Television Critics Association press tour. “We shot all night, and it was probably one of the most physical numbers that we’ve ever done. I was lifting Naya Rivera at one point in the dance. It was really active. We had the whole USC band wrapped in to this number as you can see in the photos. It was awesome.” Photos of the cast filming “Thriller” surfaced on the Internet recently, depicting a prom night turned zombie affair. Jackson’s tune is just one of the many hits to be covered in the broadcast. Other songs featured in the post-Super Bowl episode include hits by the Black Eyed Peas, Katy Perry and Lady Antebellum. Kevin McHale revealed that Jackson is his “favorite artist ever” and that he has been continuously requesting to cover a tune by the late King of Pop. “I’ve been pushing very obnoxiously for a very, very long time, so I’m beyond thrilled that we do Michael Jackson,” said the actor. Like the iconic music video, the “Glee” cover was an extravagant production, which was just fitting for star Dianna Agron, who couldn’t help smile throughout filming. “The whole night, everybody kept saying, ‘Why are you laughing so much? Why are you smiling so much?’ ” she said. “I was just in my element. I was in huge makeup, huge hair, huge costume, the stuff that I loved the most, which is why I loved ‘Rocky [Horror Picture Show’] so much.” Matthew Morrison isn’t in the number, but he watched it being shot. “We actually shot it, like, a couple nights ago,” Morrison told “AH.” “I actually went out to see it. We shot it in Long Beach and at a high school that we used their football field at. It was stunning. It’s so weird with this show. We keep outdoing ourselves. It’s like, ‘What is there left to do?’ This number is just fantastic.” Related Artists Michael Jackson

Taylor Swift Tops Billboard Again In Slow Sales Week

Singer’s Speak Now notches lowest #1 figures in SoundScan era. By Gil Kaufman Taylor Swift Photo: Steve Granitz/ WireImage Taylor Swift has smashed a host of records in her short career, but next week the 21-year-old, newly single star will notch another one that probably won’t land in her bio. In a dismally slow week on the Billboard albums chart, Swift’s Speak Now held on to the #1 spot again while posting the lowest totals ever for a #1 album in the SoundScan era. According to SoundScan, the disc moved 52,000 copies, which helped vault it over the 3 million mark, but also broke the dubious record set by the soundtrack to the movie “Dreamgirls” in January 2007, which had the previous #1 low at 66,000. Only one new title moved into the top 10, the soundtrack to Gwyneth Paltrow’s “Country Strong,” which came in at #10 on sales of 28,000 after climbing up from the #149 slot in its first week. The rest of the top 10 suffered double-digit percentage losses, including: Nicki Minaj , Pink Friday (#2, 39,000); Bruno Mars , Doo-Wops & Hooligans (#3, 38,000); “Tron Legacy” soundtrack (#4, 34,000); Eminem , Recovery (#5, 33,000); Rihanna , Loud (#6, 33,000); Kanye West , My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (#7, 33,000); Mumford & Sons , Sigh No More (#8, 31,000); and Jason Aldean , My Kinda Party (#9, 29,000). The Black Keys got a major bump before their “Saturday Night Live” appearance , moving up 12 spots to #14 with Brothers (25,000), which pushed the band over the 500,000 mark. Meanwhile, Jamie Foxx ‘s latest, Best Night of My Life, slid a bit more, dropping 5 spots to #16 on sales of 23,000. “Country Strong” fared much better on the iTunes album charts, coming in at #1, followed by the Black Keys, “Tron,” Mumford & Sons, West, Mars, Swift, Rihanna, a second “Country Strong” soundtrack compilation and Eminem. The iTunes singles chart was topped by Mars’ “Grenade,” followed by Katy Perry ‘s “Firework,” Enrique Iglesias ‘ “Tonight,” the Black Eyed Peas ‘ “The Time (Dirty Bit)” and Wiz Khalifa ‘s “Black and Yellow.” Though iTunes doesn’t provide sales figures, it was also a good week for Ke$ha, who came in at #6 with “We R Who We R,” followed by Lil Wayne ‘s “6 Foot 7 Foot,” Pink ‘s “Raise Your Glass,” Rihanna’s “What’s My Name” and Waka Flocka Flame ‘s “No Hands.” Things will probably stay mostly steady again next week with just a few new releases, including the latest from ornate rockers the Decemberists and albums by Cake , Cage the Elephant , James Blunt and the Script . Gwyneth Paltrow, Sophia Bush Related To Arizona Shooting Victims

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is Paltrow’s cousin. By Gil Kaufman Gwyneth Paltrow Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images The nation is in shock from the tragic shooting spree that took the lives of six people in Arizona on Saturday after a gunman attacked U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords outside a supermarket, shooting the Democratic House member in the head. Giffords remains in critical condition after the assault by troubled 22-year-old Jared L. Loughner, who is in police custody and has been charged with five federal counts, including the attempted assassination of a member of Congress. In total, 20 people were injured during the shooting spree and while Giffords’ wounds are considered extremely dangerous, her doctors have expressed reserved optimism that she may survive. The victims of the violence have an unexpected connection to the entertainment world. “Entertainment Tonight” reported that Giffords, 40, is the cousin of actress Gwyneth Paltrow. A representative for Paltrow released a statement about the incident, in which the star said, “Although I have never had the pleasure of meeting congresswoman Giffords, my thoughts and prayers are with her and her family as well as the other victims of this horrible act of senseless violence.” Actress Sophia Bush was also related to one of the victims, 9-year-old Christina Green, who was the second cousin of the “One Tree Hill” star. Green, who was born on September 11, 2001 and who had developed an interest in politics, was Bush’s second cousin. The actress posted a series of tweets on Sunday decrying the violence that took her cousin’s life. “There are no words to explain what my cousin’s family is going through in Arizona,” she wrote. “How can this be? Violence is never the answer.” Bush also encouraged anyone who knows somebody struggling with mental illness to lend a hand. “If you know anyone who is struggling, please reach out to them,” she added. “No one should feel so alone that they resort to senseless violence.” Green, who appeared in a book called “50 Faces of Hope” that profiled children born on the day of the September 11 attacks, had recently joined the student council at her grade school and attended the event for Giffords because of her budding interest in politics. “We got robbed, she got robbed of a beautiful life she could have had,” mother Roxanna Green told CNN. President Obama has called for a national moment of silence on Monday at 11 a.m. in honor of the victims in the shooting.

No Justin Bieber-Centric ‘Glee’ Episode Planned

‘Those [tributes] are reserved for artists with big catalogs,’ co-creator Ryan Murphy explains. By Mawuse Ziegbe Justin Bieber Photo: George Pimentel/ WireImage Bad news for Beliebers: A Justin Bieber “Glee” tribute episode isn’t happening anytime soon. After rumors began to swirl that Bieber Fever was slated to sweep McKinley High, Ryan Murphy, the co-creator of the Fox hit cleared up the role of the teen star’s music in an upcoming episode. Murphy maintained that unlike other superstars whose repertories have been “Glee” overhauls — like Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Madonna — Bieber’s current list of hits isn’t long enough to sustain an entire hour of New Directions-helmed numbers. “Those [tributes] are reserved for artists with big catalogs,” he told Entertainment Weekly . However, this season of “Glee” won’t be completely Bieber-free: “Bieber comes up in episode 13 as a small plot point. Sam [Chord Overstreet] sings a JB song to win Quinn’s [Dianna Agron] approval.” Murphy has recently been giving up more details about some of the storylines and smash hits set to turn up on “Glee.” Gwyneth Paltrow will return to reprise her role as feisty substitute teacher Holly Holliday for a two-episode arc that includes dating “Glee” club leader Will Schuester. The hit show will also take a chance on Gaga’s soon-to-be released single “Born This Way,” which will serve as inspiration for an episode airing in either March or April. “I love that that song is [an] anthem,” Murphy explained of giving the track major “Glee” love. “This show is by nature optimistic and I think a character like Karofsky could turn to booze or pills or alcohol and kill themselves or do something dark. But I also love Max and I love that character and I sorta want that character to have a happy ending. So I don’t really know what that’s going to be, but I do know we’re going to do a whole episode that’s about that song.” Are you bummed there is no Justin Bieber “Glee” episode? Gwyneth Paltrow Opens Up About Postpartum Depression

Gwyneth Paltrow stars in the upcoming movie Country Strong . But after this actress’ second child was born, Paltrow said she reached the lowest, weakest point of her life. “I felt like a zombie. I couldn’t access my heart. I couldn’t access my emotions. I couldn’t connect,” Paltrow says in the February issue of Good Housekeeping . Paltrow added that this was the antithesis of what she felt when daughter Apple as born in 2004. “It was terrible, it was the exact opposite of what had happened when Apple was born,” Gwyneth says of welcoming Moses into the world. “With her, I was on cloud nine. I couldn’t believe it wasn’t the same. I just thought it meant I was a terrible mother and a terrible person.” Husband Chris Martin came to his wife four months after their son was born and was the first to mention the term “postpartum depression.” “I thought postpartum depression meant you were sobbing every single day and incapable of looking after a child,” Paltrow says. “But there are different shades of it and depths of it, which is why I think it’s so important for women to talk about it. It was a trying time. I felt like a failure.” The actress says her dark days are over, however, and she’s loving life as a mother. Let’s hope others suffering from this disease can also recognize it and find ways to move on.

In White Folks News: Gwyneth Paltrow Talks Postpartum Depression “I Felt Like A Zombie”

Postpartum depression is real: Gwyneth Paltrow had a blissful time during daughter Apple’s first few months of life in summer 2004. Two years later, when son Moses was born, things couldn’t have been more different. The actress found herself living a nightmare. “I felt like a zombie. I couldn’t access my heart. I couldn’t access my emotions. I couldn’t connect,” Paltrow, now 38, says in the February issue of Good Housekeeping. “It was terrible, it was the exact opposite of what had happened when Apple was born. With her, I was on cloud nine. I couldn’t believe it wasn’t the same. I just thought it meant I was a terrible mother and a terrible person.” It was Paltrow’s husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who first thought she might be suffering from postpartum depression. “About four months into it, Chris came to me and said, ‘Something’s wrong. Something’s wrong,’ ” Paltrow recalls. “I kept saying, ‘No, no, I’m fine.’ But Chris identified it, and that sort of burst the bubble.” Paltrow says the hardest part was acknowledging the problem. “I thought postpartum depression meant you were sobbing every single day and incapable of looking after a child,” she explains. “But there are different shades of it and depths of it, which is why I think it’s so important for women to talk about it. It was a trying time. I felt like a failure.” With those dark days long behind her, Paltrow has rebooted her film career – and begun a musical one – with her role in Country Strong. Her husband, supportive as ever, helped her learn guitar for the part – which came as no surprise. “I can depend on him,” Paltrow says. “He makes me laugh. He’s really appreciative of me. You know, he makes me feel special.” Although sometimes, she has to push him a little to talk about his feelings. “I definitely have to coax things out of him when we talk. You know, he’s British, so it’s a different lexicon totally,” Paltrow says. “But you have to communicate. Otherwise there’s no relationship.” Via People

‘Little Fockers’ Win Big During First 2011 Box-Office Weekend

Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro’s comedy sequel takes down the Coen brothers’ ‘True Grit’ for the second weekend in a row. By Josh Wigler Robert DeNiro and Ben Stiller in “Little Fockers” Photo: Universal Studios It’s a new year at the box office, but the specter of 2010 hangs heavily over the first weekend session of 2011: Beyond the extremely limited releases of “Another Year” and “Blue Valentine,” this past weekend saw a complete dearth of new movies in theaters nationwide, leaving old competitors to slog it out for supremacy. “Little Fockers” won the top spot for a second straight week — $26.3 million take giving Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro’s comedy sequel a total gate of $103.2 million since landing in theaters two weeks ago. While many studios would look at that number as a decisive success, it’s a trickier story with “Fockers,” as the film’s immediate predecessor, “Meet the Fockers,” had earned $162.5 million across the same dates in 2004. The comedy franchise apparently doesn’t carry the same weight it once did. Despite landing in second place, “True Grit” was once again the real box-office winner with a $24.5 million weekend haul. After bringing in $86.8 million in 12 days, the Coen brothers’ latest flick is officially their biggest one yet, surpassing the $74.3 million earned by their Oscar-winning “No Country for Old Men” in 2008. Box Office Mojo describes “True Grit” as “the most attended Western drama since ‘Tombstone’ from Christmas 1993,” which is one heck of an accomplishment and a deserved one, too, thanks to the film’s expert directing and brilliant performances from Jeff Bridges, Hailee Steinfeld and others. Bridges continues to hold a wide-ranging presence at the box office as “Tron Legacy” remained a top performer, hanging on to third place after three weekends in theaters. But with only $196.4 million earned worldwide since its initial debut, Disney’s decision to resurrect the cult revered sci-fi franchise remains questionable. “Yogi Bear” and “The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader” round out the top five at $13 million and $10.5 million takes, respectively. New releases “Blue Valentine” and “Another Year” played at a mere 10 locations between the two of them, resulting in a combined box-office total of $451,000. “Blue Valentine” secured the weekend’s highest per-screen average at $45,000 a pop. The Box-Office Top Five #1 “Little Fockers” ($26.3 million) #2 “True Grit” ($24.5 million) #3 “Tron Legacy” ($18.3 million) #4 “Yogi Bear” ($13 million) #5 “The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader” ($10.5 million) Upcoming Releases Gwyneth Paltrow’s “Country Strong” and Jim Carrey’s “I Love You, Phillip Morris” enter wide expansion next week, while Nicolas Cage’s “Season of the Witch” cuts its way into the new year.
