Gwyneth Paltrow Returning To ‘Glee’

Actress confirms she’ll reprise her role as a sassy substitute teacher on a second episode of hit Fox show. By James Dinh, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Matthew Morrison and Gwyneth Paltrow on “Glee” Photo: Fox Gwyneth Paltrow just can’t get enough “Glee.” The actress-turned-singer, who guest-starred on the hit Fox show last month, is set to reprise her role as McKinley High’s free-spirited substitute teacher Holly Holiday in an upcoming episode. The actress confirmed to “Access Hollywood” that she had signed on for two episodes, and called the TV gig “the best job ever.” There’s no word yet on when Paltrow’s second appearance will air or what tunes the Oscar-winning actress will sing. During her much-hyped debut “Glee” episode, Paltrow belted the edited version of Cee-Lo’s “F— You” (which happens to be MTV News’ #5 Song of 2010 ). She also did a mash-up of Rihanna’s smash “Umbrella” and the Gene Kelly classic “Singin’ in the Rain” alongside Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison). When MTV News caught up with the “Country Strong” star, she told us she’d heard through the grapevine that Cee Lo was flattered by her “Glee” cover . “I have heard from Cee Lo through other people,” Paltrow said. “He was incredibly sweet about it. It’s embarrassing to think of Cee Lo hearing me sing his song,” she laughed. Asked whether she’d heard from Rihanna yet, Paltrow joked, “No! What the?” “Clearly, she hated it,” we said. Of course, Gwyneth’s “Glee” appearances have won raves, including from show creator Ryan Murphy who spoke to the BBC about casting her. “Gwyneth is a great singer,” he said. “She’s done it a little bit, but I really want to show it off and show everyone how great she is.” Are you excited to see Gwyneth on “Glee” again? Tell in the comments!

Lindsay Lohan to Gwyneth Paltrow: Come On!

Despite a sense of humor that’s spawned spoofs of herself on SNL and Funny or Die, Lindsay Lohan is deeply hurt by some people’s criticism these days. Just hours ago, we reported her apparent dissatisfaction with CNN calling her provocative . Now it’s Gwyneth Paltrow and Glee that have her in a tizzy. Paltrow recently appeared on Glee , playing a Spanish teacher teaching a lesson that included asking the class: “Lindsay Lohan is totally crazy, right?” I thought we were friends! FRIENDS! And, she then quizzed the class in Spanish, “How many times has Lindsay Lohan been to rehab?” Funny stuff, but predictably, Dina Lohan was pissed . Lindsay was watching the hit Fox show while in the Betty Ford Center and was devastated, and is “still so upset with Gwyneth,” her mom reports. “Lindsay said, ‘Why did she have to do that?’ Our family is the first to make fun of ourselves, but Gwyneth went overboard. It was unecessary.” This isn’t the first time she’s felt victimized. Lindsay claimed the stock trading company E*Trade violated her rights with its apparent mockery of her. The E*Trade case was settled in September, a month before Gwyneth’s stint on Glee . Although this won’t end in court, it certainly hurt a friendship . “Lindsay thought she was a friend and it was disappointing,” Dina told Radar Online . “It was really hard for her to watch… it was hurtful not funny.” Lindsay is expected to complete her rehabilitation at Betty Ford on January 3. Gwyneth will return to Glee in the same role. Hope LiLo can cope.

Gwyneth Paltrow is a ‘Lush’ and 8 Other Revelations From Chelsea Handler’s Interview Special

Chelsea Handler began her campaign to succeed Barbara Walters as television’s blondest interviewer with last night’s Big Interview Special . The E! special featured conversations with Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway and Christina Aguilera. Only unlike the 86-year-old 20/20 anchor, Handler came off less like your nosy great-aunt, and more like your gabby best friend who wanted to know everything about your sex scenes, gay best friends, Oscar disappointments and bucket bathroom habits. Let’s check out the highlights ahead.

Dina Lohan to Glee: Shame On You!

Glee took some hilarious shots at Lindsay Lohan last night, courtesy of Gwyneth Paltrow’s substitute Spanish teacher character. Dina Lohan is far from pleased. The episode, which you can read all about in our TV site’s Glee review , didn’t just ridicule the troubled star for no reason. “The Substitute” actually had a point. Gwyneth’s character later talked about how she tries to relate to the students, maintaining attention spans with the aid of these crazy antics … That’s tough math in any language! Nevertheless, Lindsay Lohan’s mom and siblings don’t see the humor, calling it “shameful” how the rehabbing actress was mocked on the show last night. Dina is reportedly saying “Shame on Gkee,” and calling the show “tasteless.” Then again, Lindsay reportedly feels the same way about Dina , so we’ll call it even.

Gleebasing: Everything’s Better With an Academy Award Winner

Gwyneth Paltrow upstaged every member of Glee ‘s ensemble cast last night while playing the cool substitute teacher to the New Directions. She sang well , proved that it is possible to white-rap without being altogether embarrassing, kept up with Lea Michele in a complicated Chicago song and dance number and fleshed out what could have been another one-note character at McKinley High. If Mr. Schue wants to take a sabbatical (maybe to try out that cruise ship entertainer career he’s been fantasizing about), I’m sure Glee ks would be more than excited to have Holly Holliday fill in long-term. Until then, let’s take a look at the highs and lows from last night’s episode “The Substitute” — and remember, there will be a pop quiz.

‘Glee’ Makes Cee Lo’s ‘Forget You’ One To Remember

Show featured Gwyneth Paltrow singing cleaned-up version of hit song. By Aly Semigran Gwyneth Paltrow performs “Forget You” on “Glee” Photo: FOX Out with the old music and in with the new. That was the focus of last night’s episode of “Glee.” And that motto has certainly served the show well this season, as witnessed by the reception for their cover of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” last week. The a cappella version, which featured hot new “Glee” commodity Darren Criss, shot to the top of the iTunes charts and moved an estimated 55,000 copies on its first day alone. The show once again decided to tap into the well of recent smash hits when they had the cast back up guest star Gwyneth Paltrow , who most recently showed off her singing skills during last week’s live broadcast of the Country Music Awards, for her classroom rendition of Cee Lo’s “F— You!” Of course, given the fact that it’s a hit prime-time series with a predominantly young viewership, “Glee” opted to go with the radio-friendly version, “Forget You.” But there’s nothing forgettable about Cee Lo Green’s career, all the way up until the surprise success of “F— You!” He’s a Grammy-nominated artist and a founding member of the rap group Goodie Mob, as well as the second half of the duo that is Gnarls Barkley (perhaps you’ll recall a little single from 2006 called “Crazy”?). Cee Lo has written songs for the likes of P. Diddy, Ludacris, Common and even penned (as well as produced) the Pussycat Dolls’ massive hit “Don’t Cha.” Leave it to the multi-talented star to be able to transform a profanity-laced track (with the F-word right there in the title, no less) into a top 40 hit. The first single off Cee Lo’s upcoming solo album The Lady Killer was released in the U.S. on August, 19, 2010, but was initially created during a recording session in a Los Angeles studio. The track was a collaborative effort with Bruno Mars and Phil Lawrence, among others. Cee Lo has said in interviews that while the song is mostly fictitious (he claims there was no particular woman in mind), it is somewhat based in reality. The song really made its impact on YouTube . A no-frills video featuring only the tune’s lyrics was released first (fans could now easily sing a long with the catchy chorus, “I see you drivin’ ’round town with the girl I love/ And I’m like, f— you/ I guess the change in my pocket wasn’t enough/ I’m like, ‘F— you!’/ And f— her, too’ “) and, to date, has had more than 7 million views. An official video followed soon after, which proved to be just as inspired and tongue-in-cheek as the song itself. A lovelorn youngster lip-synch’s Cee Lo ‘s decidedly non-kid-friendly words while pining after the girl that’s traded him in for a new model (“I guess he’s an Xbox/ And I’m more Atari”). Even 50 Cent opted to get in on the fun, releasing his own remix of the song. When the song hit a fever pitch, radio stations across the country picked it up, but rather than bleep out “f—,” most went with the alternate version of the track, “Forget You.” While Cee Lo prefers the original version, he understands the need for a more-PC take on the track. The artist told Entertainment Weekly , “[It’s] not as effective. But it’s politically correct.” In addition to becoming an instant fan favorite, the tune was equally appreciated by critics. Billboard called the unconventional mix of doo-wop, hip-hop and pop “too irresistible to be denied,” while the UK’s Guardian dubbed it “one of this year’s most uplifting releases, with a chorus that makes you want to punch the air and imprecate cheerfully at total strangers.” The 36-year-old has since performed the song on shows like “Late Show With David Letterman” and “The Colbert Report” (in which he strategically placed the “F— You!” lyric with “Fox News”). What did Cee Lo think of Mrs. Chris Martin’s take on his song for “Glee”? Cee Lo told MTV News that while he hadn’t yet seen the “Glee” performance, he was “flattered” that the show wanted to use the song and found it “too awesome” that it was going to be sung by none other than Gwyneth Paltrow.
