The late comedy legend’s daughter made the comment during her first public appearance since her mother’s death, in E!’s Fashion Police: Celebrating Joan special, airing Friday night. “She affected so many people, and people you would never expect to have humor,” Melissa explains, alongside Kelly Osbourne, Giuliana Rancic and George Kotsiopoulos. “I received a letter from the White House, President Obama, someone who was often a target of her jokes, as was Mrs. Obama, but I received a handwritten note, saying, ‘Not only did she make us laugh, she made us think.’ “ Osbourne added, “If it wasn’t for your mother, I wouldn’t be able to be me. My mother wouldn’t be able to be her. Fox News Anchors Mock Ray Rice’s Wife After Elevator Assault Via Think Progress reports: New footage of Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice knocking his fiancee out cold in an elevator was released this morning by TMZ. The video shows Rice leveling Janay Palmer, and then casually dragging her limp body out of the elevator. Responding to the video, Fox host Brian Kilmeade on Monday blasted the victims of domestic violence, criticizing Palmer (now Janay Rice) and other women who don’t break up with their partner after a domestic violence incident, saying they send a “terrible message.” Kilmeade then proceeded to provide mocking advice to Palmer, quipping, “I think the message is, take the stairs.” Co-host Steve Doocey gamely joined in, “The message is, when you’re in an elevator, there’s a camera.” YT

Hawks GM Danny Ferry Made Racially Offensive Remarks That Led To Internal Investigation Via Deadspin The email that led Atlanta Hawks co-owner Bruce Levenson to announce his intention to sell his controlling stake in the team emerged from a months-long investigation by an outside firm, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. And that probe was ordered after a separate “offensive and racist” remark was included in a scouting report for Luol Deng. The account was confirmed by ESPN, which first reported that Deng was the player in question. At the meeting in early June, GM Danny Ferry accidentally read the offending remark from Deng’s report aloud. “Instead of [verbally] editing it,” said Hawks co-owner CEO Steve Koonin, “he said the comment.” Following the meeting, Koonin said members of the Atlanta-based ownership group raised a red flag regarding the comment and said: ‘This is wrong. This should not be said. It’s not appropriate in any world but not a post-(Donald) Sterling world.” Some in the ownership group called for an outside investigation, so the team retained the law firm of Alston & Bird. The firm conducted 19 interviews and examined 24,000 documents, including the 2012 email written by Bruce Levenson that emerged yesterday. Levenson called that email, in which he discussed ways to draw more white and affluent fans, “inappropriate and offensive” and “inflammatory nonsense.” Levenson’s email was addressed to Ferry, with co-owners Todd Foreman and Ed Peskowitz CC’ed. It’s not clear if the investigation is complete, or if more potentially offensive documents will turn up. But Steve Koonin told the AJC that “other disciplinary action will be taken, including against general manager Danny Ferry.” According to Yahoo! Sports , this is comment that Danny Ferry made during that meeting: “He’s still a young guy overall,” Ferry said, league sources with direct knowledge of the probe told Yahoo. “He’s a good guy overall. But he’s not perfect. He’s got some African in him. And I don’t say that in a bad way.” We always knew that Donald Sterling wasn’t the only NBA owner or executive that subscribed to an ignorant way of thinking, and here goes the proof-positive pudding. Via WSPA : The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office says 20-year-old Christopher Buckner of Guyton and her half-brother, 25-year-old Timothy Savoy of Jackson have been arrested and charged with incest after they admitted to having sex. The sheriff’s office says the two were caught in a semi-truck in a parking lot across from Effingham High School on Tuesday. Sheriff’s department spokesperson David Ehsanipoor says the two told deputies they had, “sex three times after watching the movie The Notebook.” Both have been charged with incest, aggravated sodomy, and prowling. Ah…”The Notebook” gets these hoes open every time. But seriously…these two rednecks couldn’t find any of their cousins to chop down instead??? Nasty.

Steve Ballmer’s bid to purchase the team closed Tuesday after the entry of an order by a California court confirmed the authority of Shelly Sterling to sell the team on behalf of the Sterling Family Trust, the league announced. Ballmer, the former Microsoft CEO, bid $2 billion for the Clippers in May. The NBA Board of Governors interviewed Ballmer on July 15, then took a vote electronically last week to approve him, sources told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. Ballmer decided he would complete the sale as soon as the judges’ written order came in, at 11:30 a.m. ET Tuesday. Ballmer’s takeover of the Clippers follows weeks of legal tussling between Shelly and Donald Sterling, the 80-year-old billionaire whom the NBA banned earlier this year for making offensive remarks about blacks. Donald Sterling still is expected to appeal the sale, sources told Shelburne. Drafts of the Clippers’ sale bid book, given to bidders by Bank of America and obtained by ESPN.com, revealed that the $2 billion price paid would be 12.1 times the expected 2014 revenues of the team. The bid book noted that the highest previous sale was the record that Ballmer beat, the Milwaukee Bucks, who sold for $550 million this year and a then-record five times total revenue. Says Ballmer about the Clippers’ future: “I’ve got big dreams for the team,” he told the Times. “I’d love to win a championship. I’d love the Clippers to be the most dynamic, vibrant team and name in professional sports. “The only way any of this makes sense — my desire to spend time in Los Angeles, this team, its aspirations, this community, this purchase price, any of that — is to really live out the dream and make this kind of America’s team.” We just glad that this whole situation didn’t drag out into the next season.
